When we last left off the four heroes, they Got Sabrina's Pokémon back to her and they started down Route 6 to Vermilion City and Lt. Surge. Traveling down Route 6, John and Dawn were in front with Gloria and Ash following behind them. When it came time for lunch, they sat down near the river when Persian said, "Gotta say Boss, this is the most fun I've had in a long time." John smiled and said, "Thanks Persian." Persian smiled as John fed the rest of his Pokémon. Suddenly, there was a Pokémon cry heard. John looked at Ash and said, "that sounded like a growlithe, PERSIAN!" Persian nodded his and followed John while Ash followed with Pikachu, Dawn, Gloria, and their Pokémon.
Arriving at a clearing, they saw a Pokémon that was surrounded by Rattatas and Raticates. John shouted, "PERSIAN USE SHADOW CLAW!" Persian obeyed and used Shadow claw on a Raticate, getting the attention of the Rattatas and other Raticates. That was when Ash and the others showed up and Ash said, "Pikachu! Use Thunderbolt!" As Dawn said, "Piplup Bubblebeam let's go!" Gloria said, "Corviknight! Use Brave Bird!" and finally John said, "Grotle! USE Electric Leaf!" The four Pokémon obeyed and used the respected Moves their trainers told them to use, and it sent the Rattatas and Raticates running. John checked on the Pokémon and asked, "Are you okay?" The Pokémon nodded its head and said, "Yeah, just my paw." Gloria was shocked and said, "That's a growlithe?"
Taking out her Pokédex, Dawn scanned the Pokémon and it said, "Growlithe, Truven form, the warmth Pokémon, a fire and Ice type. Growlithe have adapted to the cold mountains of the Truven Region by using their fur as insulation. This Growlithe is a Male and knows Flamethrower, Iron Tail, Fire Fang and Ice Fang." John picked up Truvien Growlithe and said, "There's a Pokémon Center nearby, let's go!" Ash, Dawn, and Gloria nodded their heads and ran to the nearby Pokémon Center. After arriving at the Pokémon Center, the nurse Joy treated the Truven Growlithe as John, Ash, Dawn, and Gloria waited outside with their Pokémon.
Later, Nurse Joy walked out with the Truven Growlithe on a gurney being pushed by Nurse Joy's Chansey. John, Dawn, Ash, and Gloria walked up to them as Nurse Joy said, "The Growlithe is okay, just needs some rest, who is the trainer?" The four friends looked at each other before John said, "We have no clue. We found it in the wild being attacked by Rattatas and Raticates." Nurse Joy was shocked as she said, "Oh dear, that makes sense." When Ash asked her what she meant, she said that a trainer abandoned his Growlithe after losing a Gym Battle. Everyone was pissed at that as Dawn petted the Growlithe and said, "poor thing." She then said, "he feels so warm." That was when Nurse Joy said, "It must have been a fire, since this is from the Truven Region." Soon Growlithe woke up and said, "Oh, hello… How did I get here?" Dawn said, "we brought you here to get you checked out." Growlithe smiled and licked her cheek, making Dawn giggle. John smiled as he asked Growlthie, "Growlithe, want to join us on our journey?" Growlithe looked at them before saying, "Mind if I just travel and not get caught?" John, Dawn, and Dawn all nodded their heads and after getting their Pokémon checked out. Continued their way to Vermilion City and Lt. Surge.
After a few more days, they arrived at Vermillion City. John smiled, and after taking the map out for the vaults he said, "Seems like the Vault is near the Gym. But its guardian is something I don't recognize." Ash looked and said, "same here, I'm curious about it." That was when Gloria looked and said, "I haven't seen it before either." John then said that they would just need to ask Lt. Surge about it. Soon they arrived at the gym and saw a man in military clothes with a Raichu beside him. Ash smiled and said, "Hey Lt. Surge!"
The man looked at them and smiled before saying, "Hey Ash, Pikachu. How are you two doing?" Ash said that they were doing well as Pikachu hopped down and talked to Lt. Surge's Raichu. Ash then introduced Lt. Surge to John, Dawn, and Gloria. John held up a pokeball and said, "I challenge you to a Pokémon battle." Lt. Surge smiled and said, "Spunky kid aren't we? Very well, challenge accepted!" They then headed into the Gym where John was told that only three Pokémon were to be used and substitutions were allowed.
"Voltorb! LET'S GO!" Said Lt. Surge as he threw a pokeball and a Voltorb appeared. Gloria pulled her pokedex out and scanned Voltorb. Her Pokedex then said, "Voltorb, the Ball Pokémon, an electric type. It's usually found in power plants. Easily mistaken for a PokéBall, it has zapped many people. This Voltorb knows Thunderbolt, Swift, Light Screen, and Gyro Ball." John pulled out a Pokéball and shouted, "TAUROS! COME ON OUT!" and Tauros came out. The Referee then said, "Battle begin!" Lt. Surge made the first move by shouting, "Voltorb Hit it with a Gyroball!" Voltorb nodded and spun around before charging at Tauros. But John said, "Tauros, use dig to dodge it!" Tauros nodded and dug down, making Voltorb miss him. Soon Tauros came up and smacked into Voltorb underneath it. Lt. Surge then shouted to Voltorb to use Thunderbolt and it struck Tauros. John then shouted, "TAKE DOWN!" Tauros nodded and smashed into Voltorb and sent it into a wall and after the dust cleared, Voltorb shook off the damage and used Gyro Ball again.
"Voltorb Stop!" Shouted Lt. Surge but it didn't listen. Tauros charged at Voltorb and took the hit while standing its ground. That was when Tauros began to glow and Ash said, "HE'S EVOLVING!" Tauros grabbed Voltorb with hands and stood up before it stopped and threw it back before shouting, "MINOTAUROS!" John scanned the newly evolved Pokémon and his Pokédex said, "Minotauros, the Minotaur Pokémon, and the evolved form of Tauros. A Normal and Dark type, Minotauros spends days carving out a labyrinth to lure Trainers into it and attack them. Minotauros has learned the move Horn Smash. A Dark type move, Minotauros's horns glow and it charges forward and it deals double damage when the opponent has Light screen or reflect active." John smiled and said, "Minotauros! USE HORN SMASH!" Minotauros roared and its horns began to glow before charging forward and smashing Voltorb back into the wall.
When the dust settled again, Voltorb was knocked out and Minotauros won the first round. John cheered as Minotauros came back to him and he smiled as Lt. Surge recalled Voltorb and said, "Good try buddy. I gotta say kid, that was a surprise even for me. My next Pokémon is Galvantula!" Lt. Surge threw another Pokéball and out came the Galvantula. Dawn scanned Galvantula with her Pokédex and it said, "Galvantula, the EleSpider Pokémon. A Bug and Electric type. It lays traps of electrified threads near the nests of bird Pokémon, aiming to snare chicks that are not yet good at flying. This Galvantula is a Male and knows Electroweb, Electro Ball, Bug Buzz, and Energy Ball." John looked at Minotauros and said, "take a rest buddy." Minotauros nodded his head as he got recalled into his Pokéball.
"Grotle, Let's GO!" John shouted as he threw his starter Pokémon out. Lt. Surge smiled and said, "Galvantula! USE ELECTRO BALL!" Galvantula fired a ball of electricity at Grotle and when it struck him, the back of Grotle glowed. John then said, "USE MAGICAL LEAF!" Grotle used Magical Leaf on Galvantula. Lt. Surge said to use Energy Ball but John told Grotle to dodge it and they saw him dodge it fast. John smiled and said, "You got Motor Drive as an ABILITY! AWESOME!" Lt. Surge then said, "Galvantula use Energy ball again!" and John told him to dodge and use Magical Leaf. Grotle obeyed and shot Magical Leaf again on Galvantula.
The move struck as Lt. Surge shouted for Galvantula to use Electro web. John told Grotle to take the move and when he did, his back glowed brighter. Grotle then disappeared, appeared behind Galvantula, and used Magical leaf again. When the dust settled, Galvantula was down and Grotle was declared the winner. John cheered as Lt. Surge recalled Galvntula and said, "You did your best Galvantula. I have to say John, you've got some team." John smiled and said, "Thanks Lt. Surge, we've tried our best." Lt. Surge nodded and sent out Raichu. John had Grotle come back and he sent out Pidgey.
"Doesn't he know that Pidgey has a type disadvantage?" Gloria asked Ash. but Ash said, "So did I at some battles, I think he's taken a page from my book." Lt. Surge told Raichu to use Thunderbolt. John had Pidgey dodge and use Gust, hitting Raichu. John then thought, 'Lt. Surge's Raichu knows Static, so any physical moves will make Pidgey paralyzed. So I might have to keep using gust.' Lt. Surge then told Raichu to use Mega Kick. John had Pidgey Dodge and use gust again. Lt Surge then shouted, "USE THUNDERBOLT ON THE ENTIRE FIELD!" Raichu obeyed and used Thunderbolt all over and got Pidgey onto the ground.
"Now use Mega Punch!" Shouted Lt. Surge. As Raichu came down on Pidgey. John shouted for Pidgey to Dodge and he did, making Raichu strike the ground and hurt his paw. John shouted to use Gust one more time. Pidgey did use Gust and sent Raichu into the wall. Raichu got angry and shot another Thunderbolt at Pidgey. Pidgey was told to dodge and he dodged but Raichu used that to strike Pidgey with Mega Punch. Pidgey fell down and John shouted, "PIDGEY!" Pidgey got up and screeched as he began to glow.
"ANOTHER Pokémon EVOLVING?!" Shouted LT. Surge. Pidgey's legs grew a bit as the wings got longer and the beak grew too. When the glowing faded, Pidgey was a new Pokémon and shouted, "Sandpipotto!" John took out his Pokédex and scanned his new Pokémon and his Pokédex said, "Sandpipotto, the Ground bird Pokémon. The Truven evolved form of Pidgey. A ground and Flying type, Sandpipotto uses its legs to run away from predators when its wings are too tired of flying. This Sandpipotto is a male and knows Tackle, Sand Attack, Gust, and Earth Power." John smiled brightly and shouted, "USE EARTH POWER!" Sandpipotto nodded and used Earthpower on Raichu, getting a direct hit and sending Raichu backwards and out for the count.
"Raichu is unable to battle, the winner is Sandpipotto, and so the victory goes to John of Pallet town!" said the Referee and John cheered in excitement. Lt. Surge recalled Raichu and said, "Good try buddy." afterwards, John had all three Pokémon he used out as Lt. Surge said, "I gotta say kid, that was something else, two Pokémon evolving! You got something going for you." John chuckled before getting serious and telling Lt. Surge about the mission Arceus had given him.
"Damn, I see. So this vault, it's by the gym?" said LT. Surge. John nodded and showed him the Pokémon that was the guardian of the Vault. Lt. Surge looked at it and said, "Oh that's a wild Pokémon that came here from Paldea. He hangs here with my electric Pokémon." Lt. Surge then showed them his electric Pokémon and said, "Hey Pawmo!" the Pokémon Lt. Surge called out to look at him and ran to john and hopped on John's shoulder before it said, "Greetings human from the other world, I may be small but I pack a punch."
John smiled and said, "Hope you give me a tough battle." Pawmo nodded and hopped off and got into a fighting stance. John looked at Persian, who nodded his head and he got in front of John. Dawn pulled out her Pokédex and scanned Pawmo and her Pokédex said, "Pawmo, the mouse Pokémon. An electric type, when its group is attacked, Pawmo is the first to leap into battle, defeating enemies with a fighting technique that utilizes Electric Shocks. This Pawmo is a female and knows Arm thrust, Wild Charge, Thunder Fang, and Nuzzle. Its ability is Volt Absorb."
John smiled before saying, Persian! Use Shadow Claw!" Persian nodded and leaped forward as his paws got a dark aura. Pawmo allowed it to connect before using Arm thrust. Persian slid backwards and into John's legs. John asked if he was alright. Persian nodded his head, making John smile and say, "Ok, use Power Gem!" Persian nodded and used Power Gem on Pawmo, getting a direct hit on her. Pawmo slid backwards and used Thunder Fang, but Persian dodged it and she got John instead. John got a good shock out of it and it worried everyone, even Pawmo.
"Oh crap! I'm.. I'm So sorry human from the other…." said Pawmo before she and the others heard and saw John laughing and he said, "Man that was SOME Thunder Fang! YOU ARE SUPER STRONG! HAVE TO BE TO BE THE GUARDIAN OF THE VAULT!" Pawmo was speechless and asked, "You really don't mind being zapped the way you did?" John shook his head and said, "Are you kidding? I can see how tough you are, you trained hard and got those moves yourself. You're simply amazing." Pawmo smiled and said, "Since you flattered me, I'm gonna give you the win, but can I also join your team?" John smiled and said, "sure. But I want to finish this battle." Pawmo nodded and hopped backwards.
After an hour of battling, John threw a Pokéball at Pawmo and after three wiggles and a Ding, John smiled and picked it up before saying, "I just caught… A PAWMO!" and Persian jumped for joy with john. John called Pawmo back out and he had her show him where the vault was. Pawmo led them out and to a small area. Stepping into the area, John, Dawn, Ash, and Gloria felt the ground move and they were lowered down. Reaching the bottom, they saw an old sword and shield. Stepping forward, John saw that only he could do that so he deduced that they were for him. Picking up the sword and shield, John was given a vision.
In his vision, John saw Arceus and said, "Arceus." the god of all Pokémon looked at him when two more Pokémon appeared and he said, "Behold savior, Zacian and Zamazenta. These Pokémon will come to your aid when you shall need it most." John nodded his head as the vision ended and he walked out so they could leave. The artifacts then shrunk to fit around his neck. John told them about the vision and Ash said, "Wow bro, so you got Cobalion, Zacian and Zamazenta." John smiled and said, "Yeah, but I want to make sure I use them wisely."
Dawn kissed John's cheek when suddenly, Pikachu and Grotle were grabbed by Team Hell members. John growled and shouted, "GIVE US OUR Pokémon BACK!" The Team Hell's leader stepped forward and said, "I am Admin Lucifer, if you want them, come and get them!" John glared at them and called out Minotauros while Ash, Dawn, and Gloria called out Swellow, Quilava, and Corviknight. John shouted, "Minotauros! Bring down that Balloon!" Minotauros nodded and jumped up and grabbed the Hot air Balloon.
John then called out Grayados and Carnivine. John had Carnivine use Vine whip and help Minotauros pull the Balloon down. That was when John's charm for Cobalion began to glow and it went straight to his hand. Suddenly, a sword that looked like Cobalion's horn appeared in his hand with the Pommel being the head of Cobalion on it. John knew what he had to do so he ran forward and jumped up before shouting, "SACRED SWORD SLASH!" He spun as the blade became longer and cut the straps off from the Hot air balloon and Minotauros got Grotle and Pikachu free.
"Minotauros! Use Horn Smash to send them flying!" John shouted as the sword disappeared. Minotauros nodded his head and used Horn Smash which sent the Team Hell grunts and Lucifer flying. John patted Grotle's head while Ash caught Pikachu in his arms. John patted Minotauros on his back as Ash shook John's hand while saying, "thanks for saving Pikachu." John told his brother, "don't worry about it brother." The Lt. Surge said, "Your next gym stop should be the Celadon City Gym." John nodded his head and shook hands with Lt. Surge before they headed off to go to Celadon City.
Along the way, they all rested and Eevee ate alongside Truven Growlithe. John and Dawn both smiled when Butch and Cassidy came in and grabbed them both. John and Dawn shot up and John shouted, "GIVE US BACK THOSE Pokémon BIFF AND CASSIDY!" and Butch said, "MY NAME IS BUTCH!" John growled and called out Gyarados and shouted, "Gyarados! USE HYDRO PUMP! PUNCTURE THAT BALLOON!" Gyarados nodded and blasted by a huge volume of water launched under great pressure at the balloon, popping it and making the basket fall.
John and Dawn caught the shiny Eevee and Truven Growlithe. Butch and Cassidy hopped up and Cassidy shouted, "We want those Pokémon!" They then called out Primeape from Butch and Raticate for Cassidy. John shouted, "HYDRO PUMP!" while Ash said, "Pikachu, you use Thunderbolt!" The two Pokémon obeyed and used the moves they were told but the Raticate and Primeape dodged the moves. Raticate then used Crunch as Primeape used Rage Fist. John and Ash both shouted, "DODGE IT!" Gyarados and Pikachu dodged the incoming attacks. That was when The Truven Growlithe used Iron Tail on Raticate and shot a Flamethrower at Primeape. Dawn smiled as Truven Growlithe nodded his head at her. Dawn nodded back and said, "Use Iron Tail on Primeape!" as John said, "Gyarados, You use Iron Tail on Primeape too!" The two Pokémon obeyed and struck the primeape together. Primeape slammed into Raticate and then into Butch and Cassidy, making them all fall in mud.
"Hey Ash, wanna pull a soak scorch shock on these guys?" John looked and said to his brother. Ash nodded his head and said, "I couldn't agree more." John smiled and shouted, "Gyarados! Let's Wash them down!" Gyarados nodded and shot Hydro pump at Butch, Cassidy, and their Pokémon. Then Dawn shouted, "Growlithe! Let's dry them up!" Growlithe obeyed and used Flamethrower on them. Finally Ash said, "Pikachu…" as John said, "Gyarados…" and they both said, "LET'S CHARGE THEM FOR THIS!" Both Gyarados and Pikachu obeyed and they both used Thunderbolt on the attackers and sent them flying as they shouted, "WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!"
John smiled as Dawn hugged him closely and Gloria hugged Ash. Growlithe then looked at Dawn, who knelt and petted Growlithe. John then asked Growlithe if he wanted Dawn to catch him now. Growlithe nodded his head, making Dawn smile and pulled out a Pokéball to allow Growlithe to tap it. After he did, Growlithe went into it. With three shakes a ding, Dawn cheered, "I CAUGHT A GROWLITHE!" John smiled as Gloria looked at Ash asked, "Do you guys always do that?" Ash rubbed the back of his neck as Dawn and John shared a kiss and he said, "Yeah…"
Later, John, Ash, Gloria, and Dawn had all their Pokémon healed up and ready to head out. John knew that Erika was the next Gym leader he would be facing so he had to be prepared to face her Grass-type Pokémon. John held Dawn's hand as they walked off to their next destination. Along the way in Route 7, the four were walking along when they heard fighting. John ran to it and that was when they saw a Vulpix fighting a Primeape. John called out his Grotle and had him use Thunderbolt on the Primeape, making it angrier as John called out Minotauros, He told Minotauros to grab Primeape and throw him away. Minotauros did and sent the Primeape flying.
Afterwards, John scanned the Vulpix with his Pokédex and scanned Vulpix. His Pokedex said, "Vulpix, Kanto Form. the Fox Pokémon. A fire Type, It controls balls of fire. As it grows, its six tails split from their tips to make more tails. This Vulpix is a male and knows Flame Charge, Flamethrower, Extrasensory, and Spite. This Vulpix has a Timid Nature." John nodded his head and put his Pokédex away before kneeling down and placing an Oran Berry in front of Vulpix. Walking slowly forward, Vulpix took a small nibble of the Oran Berry. John smiled as Vulpix was happy and ate the Oran Berry more as a Ninetales walked up to them. Dawn pulled out her Pokédex and scanned Ninetales. Her Pokedex said, "Ninetales, Kanto Form. the Fox Pokémon. A fire Type, Its nine tails are said to be imbued with a mystic power. The Pokémon is said to live for 1,000 years. This Ninetales is a Female and Flamethrower, Fire Spin, Quick Attack, and Flame Charge." Ninetales walked over to Ash and rubbed her snout on him before saying, "It's been a while since I saw you Ash, how's Master Brock?" Ash was shocked and said, "Wait, you're HIS Vulpix?!"
Dawn and Gloria were confused as John stood up and said, "No way! His Vulpix Evolved?! Nice! Is this Vulpix your child?" Pointing to the Vulpix that was still eating the Oran Berry. Ninetales nodded her head and said, "Yes, and it's about time he got out and saw the world like I did." Vulpix looked up and walked over to John. John smiled and asked Vulpix if he wanted to travel with John, and Vulpix said, "Yes please." John smiled and held out a Pokéball. Vulpix tapped the button and went inside it. John smiled after the Pokéball shook three times and dinged, he then said, "I got a Vulpix." Dawn smiled as Ninetales said, "Human from the other world, take care of my son please." John nodded his head and called out Vulpix. Vulpix smiled and jumped into John's arms. He smiled and said, "Not gonna lie buddy, You are going to be through tough training, think you can handle it?" Vulpix nodded his head when a large Pokémon landed nearby, kicking up dust, and making them cover their eyes.
After John uncovered his eyes, he saw the Pokémon that kicked the dust up and he asked, "What are you doing here?"
