John stood in front of the Fuchsia City Gym with his chosen Pokémon ready to challenge them. So taking a big breath in, he shouted, "KOGA! I CHALLENGE YOU TO A POKÉMON BATTLE!" that was when a voice came back and said, "We accept your challenge!" The doors opened and John walked in with Ash and their friends following to sit in the stands. John stood in the challenger's spot as Koga walked out to his spot. Looking at the stands, Koga smiled and said, "Ah Ash, good to see you here." Ash nodded his head and said, "Good to see you too Koga. don't hold back on my bro."
"Oh? He's your brother? I never knew that." Koga said to Ash. That was when John said, "We found out recently before beginning our journey." Koga nodded his head and pulled out a Pokéball as Koga's sister, Aya, stood in the referee spot and said, "The battle between Koga the Gym leader and John the challenger will now begin. Each trainer will use four Pokémon each. Substitutions are allowed and the match will be over when all four pokémon on either side are unable to continue. Trainers, send out your pokémon!" Koga sent out his first pokémon and it was a Crobat. Gloria took out her pokédex to scan the Crobat and her pokédex read, "Crobat, the Bat Pokémon. A Poison and Flying type, This Pokémon gained vastly enhanced flying capabilities after its legs became wings. This Crobat is a male and knows Toxic, Leech Life, Venoshock, and Air Slash." John nodded his head and said, "Your Golbat evolved. Interesting… Garganacl, LET'S GO!" as John threw his Pokémon out and the Rock Salt Pokémon stood at the ready.
"BATTLE BEGIN!" Shouted Ava. Koga made the first move and shouted, "CROBAT RETURN!" and Koga recalled Crobat before sending out his second pokémon, a Toxapex. John thought, 'shit, this won't be easy.' John told Garganacl to keep his guard up before Ash scanned Toxapex. His Pokédex read, "Toxapex, the Brutal Star Pokémon. A Poison and Water type, This Pokémon lives within a dome made by its own legs. Toxapex monitors its surroundings by sensing the flow of the tide through its spikes. This Toxapex is a Male and knows Hydro Pump, Poison Jab, Liquidation, and Sludge Bomb." Koga then shouted, "HYDRO PUMP!" and Toxapex shot a Hydro pump at Garganacl, but John shouted, "DODGE IT!" after Garganacl dodged, John shouted, "THUNDER PUNCH!" Garganacl charged forward and punched Toxapex with a Thunder Punch. Sending Toxapex sliding backwards. Koga then shouted, "LIQUIDATION!" Toxapex used Liquidation and got a direct hit on Garganacl.
Garganacl slid backwards and John immediately recalled him. John then thought, 'This is bad. But I gotta keep going. But I can't send out Raikou, I need to keep him a secret' He then sent out his next pokémon, which was Pawmo. John then shouted, "WILD CHARGE!" Pawmo charged forward, shrouding itself in electricity and smashed into Toxapex. Jumping backwards, Pawmo then flinched at the damage it took itself. But Toxapex suffered more damage as Koga shouted, "POISON JAB!" Toxapex charged forward as John shouted, "THUNDER FANG!" and Pawmo charged forward as well. The two Pokémon met in the middle and smoke clouded the battlefield.
Once the smoke cleared, Pawmo and Toxapex were standing until Toxapex fell down, defeated. Pawmo smiled before John saw that Pawmo was poisoned. Ava shouted, "Toxapex is unable to continue, Pawmo is the winner." Koga recalled Toxapex as John recalled Pawmo. Koga then said, "WEEZING! I CHOOSE YOU!" and out came a Weezing, but not one John was expecting.
Gloria recognized it as a Galarain Weezing. Koga then said, "Do you like it? I traded my Kanto Weezing for this one from a friend in Galar." John scanned the Weezing with his Pokédex and it said, "Weezing, the Poison Gas Pokémon, Galarian form. A Poison and Fairy type, This Pokémon consumes particles that contaminate the air. Instead of leaving droppings, it expels clean air. This pokémon is a male and knows Strange Steam, Double Hit, Explosion, and Gyro Ball." John pulled out another Pokéball and called out his Grotle. Koga shouted, "DOUBLE HIT!" Weezing charged forward and John shouted, DODGE! THEN USE THUNDERBOLT!" John's Grotle dodged quickly and shot a bolt of lightning at the Galarian Weezing, scoring a hit. Koga then shouted, "GYRO BALL!" Weezing used Gyro Ball and went at Grotle. John shouted, "Electric Leaf!" Grotle shot Electric Leaf at Weezing before he struck Grotle. Koga then shouted, "EXPLOSION!"
Weezing obeyed and used Explosion. Making Grotle slide backwards. Galarian Weezing was also out, but Grotle was able to withstand the explosion but was really weak. Ava said that Grotle was the winner as John recalled him. Koga recalled his Weezing and sent out Roserade. John knew Roserade's typing was Poison and Grass, so he called out Litleo beside him and said, "Litleo is going to watch this next battle. Go, CHARIZARD!" He then sent out Charizard as Dawn scanned Roserade. Dawn then said, "So Roserade's moves are Sludge Bomb, Solar Beam, Poison Jab, and Shadow Ball." Then Ash said, "Not to mention that one of Roserade's Abilities is Poison Point, if they make contact, Charizard might get Poisoned." Dawn looked at John and said, "He knows that."
'One of Roserade's Abilities is Poison Point, if they make contact, Charizard might get Poisoned. Luckily half my moves are no contact ones. Meaning if I keep the distance between them, Charizard will be ok.' thought John before Koga shouted, "SHADOW BALL!" Roserade nodded and fired a shadow ball at Charizard. John simply said, "FLAP YOUR WINGS CHARIZARD! SEND IT BACK!" Charizard nodded and flapped his wings hard, sending wind into the Shadow Ball. The Move and the wind fought until Koga shouted, "NOW ROSERADE!" Soon Roserade appeared above Charizard. John and Charizard were caught off guard as Roseroade was getting ready to launch an attack as the Shadow Ball was being pushed back.
"FLAMETHROWER/SOLAR BEAM!" shouted the two trainers. Charizard shot Flamethrower at Roserade as she shot a Solar Beam at Charizard while the Shadow Ball resumed towards charizard. Soon the Shadow Ball Struck Charizard and allowed Roserade's Solar Beam to strike him too. John and his friends were shocked as the smoke filled the arena. When the dust settled, Roserade was back in front of Koga as Charizard panted as it took hit after hit, normal damage from Shadow Ball and half damage from Solar Beam. John was about to recall Charizard, until he saw Charizard's tail get engulfed in flames before he charged forwards and struck Roserade hard, sending her right into the wall. Everyone was shocked at the new Attack. John's Pokédex went off and said, "Charizard has learned Flaming Tail. The User's tail gets engulfed in flames and causes the Opponent to get burned while not getting affected by abilites like Poison point or Static."
John smiled as Koga looked at his Roserade and saw that Roserade was down for the count. Ava said that Roserade was unable to continue so Charzard won. John scanned Charizard again and saw that Flamethrower was replaced by Flaming Tail. Ash smiled and said, "That's Amazing bro!" Then Gloria said, "That leaves Koga with two Pokémon and John's got all four of his." But Ash said, "Remember that Pawmo was poisoned so John might not want to send him out. Not to mention Koga needs to send out a fourth Pokémon." The girls nodded as Koga sent Crobat back out. John recalled Charizard and sent out Garganacl.
"THUNDER PUNCH GARGANACL!" Shouted John. Koga told his Crobat to dodge and use Venoshock. Crobat dodged and shot Venoshoc, but it barely affected Garganacl. John then said, "Keep using Thunder Punch until you get a hit! Then use Rock Blast!" Koga shouted, "Don't let Garganacl get a hit!" The two Pokémon kept moving around the Field until Garganacl tricked Crobat into moving into a spot it wanted and struck it with a super effective Thunder Punch, followed by a super effective Rock Blast, sending Crobat towards Koga defeated.
"Crobat is unable to continue, the winner is Garganacl." Aya said as Koga recalled his Crobat. Koga then said, "I gotta say John, this is an intense battle you're giving me." John smiled and said, "What can I say, I've been shocked by some of your own Pokémon that you sent out. Koga nodded his head and said, "Time for my final Pokémon. Venusaur, I CHOOSE YOU!" and the final Pokémon that Koga sent out was Venusaur. John was shocked as was Ash. Pulling her Pokédex out, Gloria scanned Venusaur and her Pokédex said, "Venusaur, the Seed Pokémon. A Grass and Poison Type, After a rainy day, the flower on its back smells stronger. The scent attracts other Pokémon. This Venusaur is a Male and knows Sludge Bomb, Petal Blizzard, Skull Bash, Bulldoze."
That was when John noticed what Venusaur had on its one leg, a Mega Stone. John was speechless as Koga pulled off one glove and said, "Our Determination is stronger united. Venusaur, MEGA EVOLVE!" a bright light surrounded Venusaur and an orb did too until the orb broke and Venusaur was mega evolved. John recalled Garganacl and sent Charizard back out. Soon Charizard began to glow as did John and that was when Charizard Mega Evolved too, but it was a Combination of its X and Y form; The body from X but the Colors from Y. John felt the power he felt with Gyarados. He smiled and said, "FIRE BLAST!" Charizard obeyed and used a Powerful Fireblast as Koga shouted, "SLUDGE BOMB!" Venusaur shot a Sludge Bomb at the Fire Blast, making the two moves collide in the middle.
"SEISMIC TOSS!" John shouted as Koga shouted, "SKULL BASH!" Their Pokémon used the moves their trainers said. Charizard allowed Skull Bash to hit before lifting Venusaur up and used Seismic Toss on him. John then shouted, "FLAMING TAIL!" Charizard obeyed and used Flaming Tail on Venusaur's head and made a lot of dust kick up. When the dust settled, Charizard and Venusaur were still standing, panting until Venusaur de-mega evolved and fell down. Ava then said, "Venusaur is unable to continue. The Winner is Charizard, all four of Koga's Pokémon have been taken out, so the winner is John Bertrand of Pallet town!"
"WE DID IT!" Shouted John as Charizard de-Mega Evolved and Litleo jumped onto the field and said, "WOW CHARIZARD! THAT WAS AMAZING! CAN YOU TEACH ME THAT MOVE?!" Charizard smiled as John also called out Grotle, Pawmo, and Garganacl. Healing Pawmo with an Antidote, John saw Koga walk up to him and held out a Soul Badge as he said, "That was an impressive battle John. First that Charizard of yours learning a New move that not even I heard of, and then that same Charizard Mega evolving to that new form… you have a future." John smiled as he took the Soul Badge from Koga's hand and said, "thanks… I GOT THE SOUL BADGE!" the four Pokémon that he had cheered with him. Dawn and Ash both smiled as Gloria said, "Impressive." Kiki was starry eyed and in awe.
"A Vault?" Koga asked after John explained things to him. Ash nodded his head and said, "Yeah, are there Pokémon that act weirdly around certain things?" Koga thought about it until Ava said, "There is a strange Pokémon I saw earlier. Maybe it knows?" John, Ash, Dawn, and Gloria nodded their heads and followed Ava out of the gym to a charred tree where a Pokémon came from behind. It was like a Grimer, but its hands were on fire. Sticks and twigs protruded from it and they were smoldering or on fire. John pulled out his Pokédex and scanned it. His Pokédex read, "Grimer, Truven Variant, A Poison and Fire type. When Grimer comes to life in sludge near flammable Materials, the materials combust. This Grimer is a Male and knows Flamethrower, Fire Punch, Sludge Bomb, and Gunk Shot.
"Greetings Trainers, I am the guardian of the Vault that only Dawn may Access. In order for her to access it she must defeat me in a Pokémon Battle." Grimer said to them. John and Ash looked at Dawn who stepped forward and called out her Tyrantrum. She then said, "Ok Tyrantrum, first battle, ready?" Tyrantrum nodded his head and said, "I am ready Madam Dawn." Grimer attacked first with Gunk Shot. Dawn said, "Use Bulldoze!" Tyrantrum Obeyed and used Bulldoze to go right through the Gunk shot and into Truven Grimer. Grimer shot Flamethrower and Tyrantrum took it before smacking him with its tail.
"Now that's a Tail whip." John said with a smile as the other rolled their eyes. Dawn then shouted, "Dragon Tail!" Tyrantrum used Dragon Tail and struck Truven Grimer against another Tree and was down for the count. Dawn pulled out a Pokéball and threw it at Grimer. When the Pokéball hit Grimer, he went inside it and after three shakes, it dinged. Dawn cheered and picked up the Pokéball before shouted, "ALRIGHT! I CAUGHT A TRUVEN GRIMER!" as Tyrantrum cheered with her. John and the others cheered with her as well as Koga and Ava smiled.
Dawn then called out Grimer and he looked at her. Grimer then said, "You have proven yourself worthy to enter the Vault. And I will serve you until I am not needed." Dawn smiled before the charred Tree moved. She recalled her Pokémon and stepped on where the Charred Tree was. Soon the platform she was on went down. John nodded his head and Dawn nodded hers. When the platform stopped, Dawn walked off and saw a Bow on a Pedestal. She took it and noted that the bow had a Sawsbuck on it and the string appeared as her fingers moved near it. Soon the Bow changed into a bracelet on her hand. She smiled and walked back to the platform and it went up.
"So this is a Bow?" John asked as Dawn showed them the bracelet. Dawn nodded her head and said, "Yes, it transformed and went onto my hand." Gloria smiled and said, "Impressive." Ash agreed as Koga and Ava walked to them. Koga then said, "Now it's time for you to continue your journey, yes?" John and Ash nodded their heads and John said, "Yes, we have to go to Sabrina's Gym and take her on next." Koga smiled and said, "Have fun. And take care." They nodded their heads and resumed traveling back to Saffron City, and John's gym battle with Sabrina.
