As the group traveled to Saffron City, John had Zubat out to get him some training as he didn't have that much. Ash asked his bro, "So Bro, what's the plan?" John looked at him and said, "Simple, we're heading to Lavender town to get a Ghost Pokémon, while also hitting the town's vault. Not to mention we need to find out more about Team Hell." Braun walked alongside Gloria the entire trip but they were all caught in a pitfall trap. Groaning, John saw Braun get taken away. Helping his friends get out of the pit trap, they saw Team Hell Grunts and Commander Hades.
"I should have known. Give back Braun!" shouted John. Commander Hades chuckled evilly and said, "no, I don't think we will." the grunts then sent houndours, Pyroars, Chandelures, and Magmortars. John sent out Gyarados, Garganacl, and Vulpix. Ash called out Pikachu, Swellow, and Pidgeot. Dawn sent out Piplup, Buneary and Tyrantrum. Gloria and Kiki stuck to the side as the two sides fought. Gloria then saw an opportunity to free Braun. Commander Hades saw her trying to free Braun and shouted, "HEY! GET AWAY FROM THAT Pokémon!" Commander Hades then called out his Incineroar. He then shouted, "Use Darkest Lariat!" Incineroar nodded and used it and right as it was about to strike Gloria, a voice shouted, "IRON HEAD!" That was when a Bastiodon slammed into Incineroar. Commander Hader looked at where the voice came from and shouted, "YOU?!"
"Byron?!" Shouted Ash, John, and Dawn. the man dropped down from the rock he was on top of and said, "Ash, Dawn. Good to see you two here. And here I thought Team rocket was bad enough." Commander Hades Growled, recalled his Incineroar and said, "retreat!" The Team Hell grunts nodded and they all ran under the cover of a smokescreen. John and the others recalled their Pokémon as Byron and his Bastiodon walked up to them and Ash said, "It's good to see you Byron." Byron nodded his head and said, "Like I said before it's good to see you and Dawn, where's brock?"
"He's studying to be a Pokémon Doctor, and this is my brother John." Ash said as he introduced John to Byron. John shook Byron's hand and said, "It's a great honor to meet you sir, I have heard so much about you." Byron smiled and said, "It's a pleasure to meet you as well." When Ash asked Byron what he was doing there, Byron told them, "I'm working a dig site for nearby fossils. If you guys want, you can help us mine for fossils." The group looked at each other, excited to mine for fossils.
At the digsite, the gang and Byron were approached by a woman who Byron introduced to them as Cara Liss and that she was in charge of the dig site. Cara bowed and said, "Greetings, I hope he didn't force you to come here." John told her that they came by choice. Cara smiled and had them begin digging in an area not touched yet, the gang nodded and got to work. Kiki was forbidden from helping to dig but John promised her that he'd get her some fossil Pokémon. Then Dawn said, "I already have a fossil Pokémon so I'll keep Kiki company." John agreed and he, Ash, and Gloria went to work digging for fossils.
"Miss Dawn, what did you mean that you have a Fossil Pokémon?" Kiki asked Dawn, who smiled, took her down the mountain side and called out her Tyrantrum. When it roared, Kiki got scared and hid behind Dawn. Dawn looked at Tyrantrum and said, "Way to go Tyrantrum, you made Kiki scared." Tyrantrum saw that, leaned down and said "I do Apologize little one, I did not mean to do that." Dawn looked at Kiki and said, "Tyrantrum is sorry." Kiki poked her head out and waved at Tyrantrum. Dawn smiled and showed Kiki all of her Pokémon. Kiki played with the Buneary and Piplup while Mamoswine, Suicune, Tyrantrum, Vigoroth, and Truven Grimer all relaxed in the shade.
Back at the dig site, John, Ash, and Gloria managed to find a Cover fossil, an armor Fossil, and a Sail fossil respectively. Cara was shown the fossils and said, "we have a Fossil Revival system for you all to use." Walking over to the machine first, John put his cover fossil in it and powered it up. After it got done, out came a Tirtouga. John scanned the Tirtouga with his Pokédex and it said, "Tirtouga, the Prototurtle Pokémon. A water and Rock type, Tirtouga is considered to be the ancestor of many turtle Pokémon. It was restored to life from a fossil. This Tirtouga is a female and knows Bite, Wild Guard, Brine, and Rock Slide."
Smiling, John asked Tirtouga if she wanted to join him and Tirtouga agreed. So John used a regular pokéball to catch her and it was successful. Next up was Ash. After reviving his fossil and got a Shieldon, he scanned it with his Pokédex and it read, "Shieldon, the Shield Pokémon. A Rock and Steel type, It habitually polishes its face by rubbing it against tree trunks. It is weak to attacks from behind. This Shieldon is a male and knows Metal Sound, Take Down, and Iron Defense." Ash smiled and offered Shieldon the same thing John offered Tirtouga and Shieldon also agreed. Finally it was Gloria's turn. She put her sail fossil in and out came Amaura. She scanned it with her pokédex and it read, "Amaura, the Tundra Pokémon. A rock and Ice Type, This Pokémon was successfully restored from a fossil. In the past, it lived with others of its kind in cold lands where there were fewer predators. This Amaura is a male and knows Ancient Power, Icy Wind, Round, and Mist."
"Wow, an Amaura, I'm so used to Dracozolt, Arctozolt, Dracovish, and Arctovish." Gloria said before catching Amaura. Then John dug more and got a fossil for Kiki but it looked like it had parts of a Cover Fossil and parts of a plume Fossil. Cara said that she never saw that combination before so she allowed John to revive the combined fossil. After a few minutes, the fossil was revived but it was a combined Tirtouga and Archen. It looked like a Tirtouga with the wings of Archen on its back. John pulled out his pokédex and scanned the combined Pokémon, but his Pokédex said, "Unknown Pokémon. Water and Flying type, unknown Pokémon, this Pokémon is a Male and Known moves are Bite, Brine, Pluck, and Rock Slide."
"Incredible, I've only seen combined Fossil Pokémon in Dracozolt, Arctozolt, Dracovish, and Arctovish. John, was it, since you were the one who revived it, I will let you name it." Cara told him. John smiled, looked at the new Pokémon and thought hard on it before it said, "I feel like my name should be Tirtchen if you want my opinion." John nodded his head and he said, "Tirtchen, that is the name I think it should have." Ash and Gloria smiled as Cara said, "very well, Tirtchen it is then. If you want, I can update your Pokédex for you all." The three nodded and they got their Pokédex's updated. Ash then rescanned Tirtchen and his Pokédex said, "Tirtchen, The Fossil Pokémon, A rock and Flying type, this Pokémon had just been recently discovered. This Tirtchen is a male and knows Bite, Brine, Pluck, and Rock Slide." (A.N.: Yeah I know there are only 4 Fossil Pokémon combos but I think there should be more. The Name is my own idea since it's part Tirtouga and part Archen.)
John then told Tirtchen that he revived him for a friend of his and asked if he could trust her. Tirtchen nodded his head and that made John smile and catch him. Walking down to Dawn and Kiki, he, Ash, and GLoria saw Kiki sleeping on Tyrantrum. Dawn saw the three of them approaching them and smiled at John, she then stood up and walked over to them. Dawn kissed John's cheek and said, "Good to see you're back, though I thought it would haven't taken that long." John hugged her and said, "it's a long story, but we got our fossil Pokémon and Kiki's got a good Fossil Pokémon, mind waking her up." Dawn nodded and picked up Kiki, which woke her up.
"They're back." Dawn told her. Kiki looked up and said, "oh Hey guys, did you all get fossils?" John, Ash, and Gloria nodded and showed them John's Tirtouga, Ash's Shieldon, and Gloria's Amaura. John then handed Kiki a pokéball and said, "this one is yours, it's a unique Pokémon." Kiki looked at him and called out the Pokémon and it was Tirtchen. Kiki was speechless as John told her about how it happened. That was when Dawn said, "so that's why you took longer. Wow, that's new." John nodded his head and said to Tirtchen, "This is the Friend I told you about, make sure you listen to her."
Tirtchen nodded his head at her and Kiki was in awe. Dawn scanned it and got no data. John showed her his Pokédex and copied it over to hers. Kiki smiled and recalled Tirtchen to his Pokéball and put it on her belt. John and the team then resumed their journey to Lavender Town so John could catch a ghost type Pokémon. Kiki got shivers at the mention of Ghost type Pokémon as they were not her favorite type of Pokémon. John looked at her and said, "I understand Kiki, but a Ghost type Pokémon may prove useful in helping me with Sabrina's Psychic team. I got a good idea on which one I want, so we need to make sure that.." but John didn't even finish as his hand glowed, meaning there was a vault nearby.
"A nearby Vault?" Ash asked, John nodded and they followed him to a dark area of the route. Kiki clung to Dawn closely as they reached an old tree and out came a Trevenant, making Kiki clung to Dawn more. John pulled out his Pokédex and saw that it was not working. Ash, Dawn, and Gloria's were also all not working. John looked at the Trevenant as he called out Charizard and Litleo. He then said, "Be prepared for anything." Charizard and Litleo nodded their heads. Soon Trevenant launched a Shadow Ball barrage and John shouted, "SCATTER!" Everyone ran to take cover from the Shadow Balls.
"CHARIZARD USE FIRE BLAST! LITLEO FIRE SPIN LET'S GO!" John shouted to his two Pokémon, Charizard obeyed and used Fire Blast as Litleo used Fire Spin against the Trevenant, but the Trevenant jumped backwards and struck Charizard with a Shadow Claw and Litleo moved to protect him with Ember, which turned into a Flamethrower. John smiled as his Litleo was getting stronger but soon Zubat came out and said, "Master, that's not a Trevenant, it's a Zoroark!" John, Ash, Dawn, Charizard, and Litleo were shocked and looked at Trevenant, who chuckled and turned into a Zoroark, but not its normal Unovan form. This one was white and red. John checked his Pokédex again and this time it read, "Zoroark, the Baneful Fox Pokémon. A normal and ghost type, Stories say those who tried to catch Zoroark were trapped in an illusion and punished. This Zoroark is a male and knows Shadow Claw, Shadow Ball, Crunch, and Brick Break. This form of Zoroark hasn't been seen since the beginning age of sinnoh."
"Wow, so this kind of Zoroark was with Wyrdeer and Kleavor." Ash said after hearing John's Pokédex. John looked at The white Zoroark and asked, "Why did you trick us?" Zoroark looked at him and said, "You remind me of him, I had to be sure you fought like him." John raised an eyebrow and asked, "Who do I remind you of?" and the Zoroark said, "Sir Aaron." Ash and John were both shocked to hear that seeing as they were descendants of Sir Aaron. John then said, "well… I am a descendant of him, but so is my brother, Ash Ketchum." The Zoroark looked at Ash and said, "Ah yes, I see him in you as well." The Zoroark then walked over to the old tree and put its hand on it, John and Ash did the same and the tree moved to reveal two small orbs. The Zoroark then said, "These Orbs will increase your aura to that of Sir Aaron's base level." John and Ash each took an orb and felt their Aura powers swell to new heights.
"Woah… I can't believe it…" Ash said as John simply looked at his orb. Ash looked at his bro and asked, "Bro? Are you good?" John looked and nodded before he put the orb in his pocket. John then turned his attention towards the Zoroark and asked him, "Would you like to join us on our journey?" Zoroark looked between the two before nodding at John. He smiled and held up a Pokéball, allowing Zoroark to tap it and he went inside it. After three shakes and a Ding, John caught his ancestor's Zoroark.
"Nice one bro." Ash said with a smile. John nodded his head and said, "yeah, now that I got a ghost time, I'm good for Sabrina's gym, but I do still wanna get the Vault at Lavender Town though." Kiki frowned and asked, "Do we have to go there? It's scary." John put a hand on Kiki's head and said, "I'll go there, you don't have to, you guys can go straight to Sabrina's gym. I'll get to the vault." Ash shook his head and said, "I'm going with you bro, I ain't letting you out of my sight." John chuckled and said, "Fine. Dawn, Gloria, Kiki, you girls head to Sabrina's Gym. Ash and I are going to Lavender Town.
Later, John and Ash arrived in Lavender Town while Dawn, Gloria and Kiki all headed to Saffron City. John looked at his map and saw that the vault was near the Lavender Tower. Walking to the Vault, John and Ash hands both began to glow near a cliffside. Soon two handprints appeared and they each took one of their hands and put them against the handprints, a door opened up for them to enter it. Right as they were about to walk in, a blonde haired woman ran out of a bush and shouted, "STOP RIGHT THERE!" John and Ash looked at her and John asked, "Can we help you?"
"I won't let Team Hell take Kanto over. GO Meanosear and Spinozar!" the lady shouted and sent out two Pokémon that neither of them recognized. Ash Sent out Pikachu and John deduced that they were strong Pokémon so he sent out Empoleon. The lady shouted, "SPINOZAR! USE DRAGON RAGE! MEANOSEAR USE FIRE BLAST!" The two Pokémon she called out used the moves as Ash shouted, "PIKACHU USE ELECTROWEB ON THE FIRE BLAST!" while John shouted, "CHARIZARD USE STEEL WING TO CUT THROUGH THE DRAGON RAGE!" Their Pokémon obeyed and were easily able to cut through the two attacks and strike her Pokémon. John then shouted, "Look lady we're not with Team hell!" but she refused to listen. Ash then shouted, "THUNDERBOLT ON SPINOZAR!" and John shouted, "FLAMING TAIL ON MEANOSEAR!"
Pikachu and Charizard used the moves and the powerful moves caused Spinozar and Meanosear badly. The Lady then shouted, "LIQUIDATION SPINOZAR! AND MEANOSEAR! USE SEARED LEAVES!" Spinozar used Liquidation and shot it at Charizard while Meanosear shot leaves that were spinning so fast they got seared edges on them at Pikachu. John shouted, "USE YOUR WINGS CHARIZARD! SEND THOSE ATTACKS BACK!" Charizard obeyed and flapped its wings hard, sending gusts of wind into the moves. They went back into the Pokémon that sent them and both were too badly hurt to continue. The lady recalled them and shouted, "FLIGHTOR, EEVEON! LET'S GO!" as she threw two more Pokéballs and out came two new Pokémon.
"That has to be an Eevee Evolution." Ash told his brother. John nodded and recalled Charizard before sending out his Sylveon. Ash shouted, "THUNDERBOLT PIKACHU ON EEVEON!" As John shouted, "FAIRY WIND ON FLIGHTOR!" Pikachu and Sylveon obeyed and when they used their moves, it made a Combo move that struck both Flightor and Eeveon, doing critical damage to them. The lady shouted, "FLIGHTOR! USE GROUNDING FLAME! EEVEON! USE QUICK ATTACK!" Flightor then stuck its tail into the ground before shooting electric bolts of flames at them while Eeveon followed them with her Quick attack, both moves striking Sylveon and Pikachu, making them slide backwards. John then asked Sylveon if she was ok and Sylveon nodded. John then recalled Sylveon and sent out Garganacl. Ash also had Pikachu come back and send out Infernape. The lady then said, "I won't stop! Eeveon, use Rainbow Blast! Flightor use Flamethrower!" Eeveon shot beams from the gems around its neck as Flightor shot flames from its mouth. Ash had infernape take the flamethrower while John shouted for Garganacl to block the Rainbow Blast with Rock Blast. Rock Blast and Rainbow Blast struck in the middle and created a massive explosion. All four Pokémon were weakened from the blast and to avoid them getting hurt anymore, all four were recalled and made the lady send out her last two called Ankylotus and Carnotox while John and Ash sent out Gyarados and Sceptile.
"Carnotox! USE TOXIC GOO! ANkylotus! USE Cactus Smash!" She shouted at them, John and Ash both shouted, "THUNDERBOLT!/LEAF BLADE!" all four moves struck in the middle again. The lady shouted, "CARNOTOX! USE ANCIENT BITE ON THAT SCEPTILE!" Carnotox ran through the smoke and struck Sceptile. Ash asked if Sceptile was alright as John shouted, "Gyarados, use HYDRO PUMP ON THAT Pokémon THAT STRUCK SCEPTILE!" Gyarados obeyed and struck Carnotox with a Hydro Pump. The lady shouted, "USE CACTUS SMASH ON THAT Pokémon ANKYLOTUS!" Ankylotus nodded, his tail glowed an emerald green and smashed into Gyarados.
"Look lady, I'm telling you, we're not with Team Hell!" John shouted to her, but she Replied, "No, but I bet you want to loot whatever you uncovered so you can show good favor to them, I won't allow it." John growled and shouted, "ARCEUS CHOSE US AND I WILL NOT STAND BY AS YOU TRY TO STOP US FROM ENTERING THAT VAULT!" The Lady looked at him before a light shined and from it came Arceus. The woman was shocked at the god of Pokémon being there. Arceus landed and said, "Hello Professor Ginkgo, I assure you, John and Ash here are not with Team Hell." Professor Ginkgo looked at Ash and John, then at Arceus, then back at Ash and John again.
"FORGIVE ME!" She shouted as she bowed to them. She then said, "I really was too quick to judge and should have listened to you, please forgive me!" John and Ash had their arms crossed before John said, "You really needed to wait until we told you. And we tried, we really did. Because these vaults were made only to be opened by people who have goodness in their hearts." Professor Ginkgo stood up and again apologized and even offered them both a Pokémon to take. She called out all six of her Pokémon and they were all new Pokémon Ash and John had not seen before.
Scanning all six of them, John's Pokédex Read "Ankylotus, the Flowering Pokémon. A Grass and Steel type, this gentle Pokémon keeps predators at bay with its armor plating and massive steel thorns. Ankylotus still enjoy hiding in plain sight by hunkering down and holding their large tails in the air to appear like a desert Cactus. They Enjoy having their bellies rubbed, but sometimes need help getting off of their backs afterwards. This Ankylotus is a male and knows Energy Ball, Iron Tail, Cactus Smash, and Steel Needle Strike. Flightor, the Quick Claw Pokémon. A Fire and Electric type, The extreme speeds that this Pokémon reaches allow it to not only generate intense heat, but also massive stores of electrical charge. Flightor are incredibly intelligent and know when to flee from a battle and quickly run and attack from behind. They attack with sharp claws on their winged arms, but are also quite Dexterous and have been observed opening doors. This Flightor is a Male and knows Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Grounding Flame, and Metal Claw."
"Spinozar, the Sail Pokémon. A water and dragon type, this incredibly territorial Pokémon tears through anyone who gets too close with its massive Claws. Spinozar are able to move through the water with ease but are fairly clumsy on land. They are very difficult to train, but will form an unbreakable bond with any trainer determined enough to befriend them. Because of this, spinozar should be approached respectfully. This Spinozar is a Male and knows Dragon Rage, Water Pulse, Dark Claw, and Dragon Claw. Meanosear, the Hot horn Pokémon. A grass and fire type, The two superheated flames that continually shoot from this pokemon's nostrils are hot enough to partially burn its own waxy leaves. Meanosear are quick to anger and require open spaces to charge across when they need to cool down. Their nose flames only extinguish when drinking water, where steam erupts from their nose instead. This Meanosear is a male and knows Seared Leaves, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, and Synthesis."
"Eeveon, the shifting Pokémon. A normal type, this unique Eeveelution is incredibly well attuned to all of the different Pokemon types and is able to change its type at will. The gems nestled in Eeveon's mane are crystallized infinity Energy that it taps into to change its type. Though they are skilled in battle they more often than not prefer to curl up and nap on their trainer's lap. This Eeveon is a female and knows Quick Attack, Rainbow Blast, Swift, and Hyper Beam. Carnotox, the new life Pokémon. A Poison and Dragon type, strange chemical byproducts from research in the Paleon Region resulted in the gooey sludge of this Pokémon's body. Carnotox's Rudimentary Muscle System is based on an amalgamation of trace DNA from Various Fossils. They are fast and intimidating, show affection to anyone who can look past their grisly appearance and treat them like any other Pokémon. This Carnotox is a female and knows Poison Jab, Dragon Breath, Toxic Goo, and Ancient Bite. All six Pokémon were caught and are trained by Professor Ginkgo." John's Pokédex finished with the six Entries.
"And you also said that you wanted to give us a Pokémon?" Ash said to her. Professor Ginkgo nodded and showed them three Pokémon, and she said, "these three are the starters for the Paleon Region." She then showed them three Pokémon and allowed John to scan them all. His Pokédex then read, "Cactamo, the Desert Plant Pokémon and the pre-evolved form of Ankylotus. A Grass type, this pokémon is originally from a hot arid environment. Cactamo are incredibly playful and affectionate towards people. They Enjoy basking in the sun and cuddling, and luckily their thorns are still quite Dull. When Cactamo are startled they freeze in place in hopes that they are mistaken for a plant. This Cactamo is a Male and knows Synthesis, Tackle, and Growth. Fleetwi, the Early Bird Pokémon and the pre-evolved form of Flightor. A fire type, this pokémon appears to be an ancestor of modern Bird Pokémon. Their soft feathers rub together when running to create heat, which they store internally and can release it to gain a burst of energy. When Fleetwi are startled they instinctively run away at great speeds. This Fleetwi is a Male and knows Glare, Ember, and Tackle. Saillil, the Spitting Pokémon and the pre-evolved form of Spinozar. A water type, this Pokémon is an expert fisher, using intense blasts of water to stun its prey. Saillil are distrustful of People and difficult to train. Pokémon trainers who put in the work find that these pokémon are incredibly loyal. When saillil are startled they stand their ground and attack ferociously. This Saillil is a male and knows Water Gun, Tail Whip, and Scratch."

John looked at the three and noticed that the Saillil was looking at him and walked over to it. Kneeling down, John held his hand out to it, and it instantly bit it. Ash, Professor Ginkgo, Pikachu, and the other Pokémon all screamed, but John was the only one who didn't. John smiled and patted his head. They all were shocked at how calm John was and Ash asked, "How come you're not freaking out?" John looked at him and said, "This guy just needs a good trainer." John then looked at Professor Ginkgo and said, "I want this Saillil to be my pokémon."
"The Fleetwi looks like it can be a strong Pokémon when fully evolved so I'll take that one." Ash said. John then asked if they could take the Cacatmo with them as he thinks a friend of theirs would be perfect for it. Professor Ginkgo nodded her head and said that it was fine. John smiled as he recalled Saillil and Ash recalled Fleetwi. They then entered the Cave and saw another pokéball. Walking closer, Ash sensed a familiar Aura and said, "Lucario?" That was when a Pokémon dropped down and said through its Aura, "Hello Ash Ketchum, it's good to see you." John said that it was Lucario. He scanned it with his Pokédex and it said, "Lucario, the Aura Pokémon. A fighting and Steel type, It's said that no foe can remain invisible to Lucario, since it can detect auras—even those of foes it could not otherwise see. This Lucario is a Male and knows Aura Sphere, Detect, Meteor Mash and Close Combat.
"No way, Lucario… are you Sir Aaron's Lucario?" Ash asked in astonishment. Lucario nodded his head and said, "Yes I am, Sir Aaron says hello by the way, but I must know, who is he? As he has the same Aura level as you do." Ash smiled and said, "Lucario, meet my brother, John Ketchum." Lucario looked between them and said, "I see now, well I am here to serve you like I served your ancestor, Sir Aaron." Ash smiled and picked up the Pokéball that was Lucario's and recalled him into it. John smiled as the two exited the vault and Arceus and Professor Ginkgo were gone already. John looked at Ash and said, "ready to go into the Lavender Tower?" Ash looked at him and said, "John you have 21 Pokémon, do you need more?"
"Coming from the guy who has over 70 Pokémon?" John said as he crossed his arms. Ash sweatdropped and said, "ok fine you got me there. Let's get you another GHost type." John smiled and the two walked into the Lavender Tower.
