Hello, another story from me and back (after a very long break) to come back to this wonderful fandom with a new story.

So yeah this is massively AU. I don't really have a lot of background notes in the works in terms of the timing for this story, I am going to put it about seven to eight years before the first season, also I am not an adoption/medical expert nor an expert on teenage parents in another state so I don't know how accurate this is going to be.

I know I have made Mamma Reagan the enemy in this story, I am choosing to make her the villain of this story because A. we needed one and B. She's not really a character I ever write so it was easy. I am also choosing to write that her reaction to Jamie and the pregnancy on the same day she got the diagnosis for her cancer. Again this is AU so if she is a bit OCC...believe me she pays the price later on. Hopefully this story begins to make more sense as we get into it.

I don't know when I will be able to update, it used to be weekly but that was before I got a job so...I will try and update when I can. I predict this little story will be seventeen (ish) chapters.

Disclaimer-Nothing here is mine.

Please Read and Review and let me know what you think when you get a chance!

AU for Trigger Warnings for Cancer, underage pregnancy, medical issues and a lot of swearing-I swear a lot in my stories so if that is something that you struggle with them please keep that in mind.

And yes...Eddie makes an appearance at some point...I just don't know when.

Spelling and Grammar are never my strongest points and so please keep that in mind as you read.

There's A Place Where Lost Things Go

Chapter 5-Momma Said There Would Be Days Like This

Meanwhile as Frank comes this way Joe and Danny are determined to get to the bottom of what happened to their baby brother. Neither one of them like what they hear.

Joe had gone for coffee.

He'd come back his eyes red with two coffees and a hot chocolate for Jamie. Jamie had stared at the warm drink in the plastic cup and the muffin that Joe had bought and then he'd looked up at Joe expression curious.

"You remembered I liked marshmallows but not whipped cream"

"Yeah" Joe said sitting down and passing Danny his coffee. Danny was trained to see the tremor in his brother's hand but he didn't comment on it.

Jamie took a sip and then another and then another. He nibbled at the edge of the muffin breaking off a piece and then he put it to the side as if he was saving it for later. Danny watched as he tracked the room again looking for a threat that was not there.

"You wanna tell us what happened?"

"She didn't want him, I did. Simple as that"

"So where have you been?"

"All over. Florida mostly. I'm homeless Danny doesn't mean I'm stupid. I knew I needed to get warm."

"Why didn't you call us?"

Jamie looked at Joe and titled his head to the side as if he thought Joe was being a dick deliberately.

"Mom told me not too" he said clearly as if Joe was being an idiot.

Danny shot Joe a look and then.

"And that stopped you?"

Jamie shrugged. "I don't know. You weren't there Danny…you didn't see her. And I just…I didn't…what if she threw you out too Joe? What if she made it so you couldn't come home? Didn't seem fair. Besides…it was okay until my son was born, I should have given him up for adoption but…but I just couldn't…maybe it would have been better if I had. A good parent would have gotten him vaccinated but I knew that if I went to a clinic then they'd find out who I was or call CPS or do anything and I knew that Dad would find out and then…then what would happen? I didn't…I was doing okay…ish I think but then I saw that Mom had died and…"

He trailed off and Danny and Joe shared another look and then Joe decided to do it.

"Mom had cancer, she found out that night, It doesn't…it really doesn't excuse what she did but Dad walked into a shit storm that night, you, the baby—"

"Harrison" Jamie said flatly.

"Harrison" Joe amended. "And then cancer. She wasn't given a good diagnosis from the off Jamie and the second he found out he was furious with her. He had a taskforce looking for you for months and even then he was looking for you in Florida and—"

"To take my baby"

"No" Danny said firmly. "No Jamie he wasn't going to take the baby, he wanted you home, we all did. Hell if he'd have found you and you wanted nothing to do with them you could have moved in with me, you could have come to Joe. We always had our phones on ready for the call. You don't—" he trailed off and Jamie looked at them and Joe wondered if he could see for the first time how desperately afraid they had been that he had been dead somewhere.

He closed his eyes on the pulse of hatred that threatened to overwhelm him.

How much damage had been done that night?
"I met Linda" Jamie said finally. "She's really nice Danny. What the hell is she doing with you?"

"Amen to that brother" Danny said and Joe laughed. Jamie cracked a smile ducking his head.

"And Erin?"

"Still with Jack. Nikki's shooting up like a weed."

"She was a baby when…

"Yeah. Now she's two"

Jamie mouthed the word and then…

"Guess I missed a bit. Pops still around?"

"Please dynamite wont blast that man loose"

Jamie said nothing and then almost as if he was afraid to say it he said it.

"I want to come home Danny. I want…I want to come home, I don't…I've been making hard decisions alone and I don't want to make them anymore. I know you both have lives but—"

"No buts about it kid you and Harrison will move in with me" Danny said firmly. "Linda's already there she can keep track on him and Joe and I will get you back in school and back on track. Between the three of us we can make this work and I swear if you never have to see the old man again if you don't want to."

"And" Joe said passing the rest of the muffin to Jamie and nodding his head ever the mother hen. "We can make sure that you are safe Jamie. Let us take care of you and our nephew okay? You don't have to be the adult anymore your sixteen nearly time to be a kid"

Jamie leaned back against the shitty couch and breathed out and Joe ripped a hand down his face trying to wipe away his tears. Somewhere down the line Jamie had been made to feel scared of them and Joe knew his own temper enough to know that he shouldn't be left alone tonight because if he did he was not going to be held responsible for his own actions.

Jamie nodded.

Danny nodded.

Joe nodded.

And then Danny spoke.

"Kid you gotta tell us upfront though are you involved in anything?"

"What do you mean?"

"You sticking needles up your arm or letting men fuck you for cash?"

Joe closed his eyes in despair. Honestly that sensitivity training that they were forced to do was wasted on Danny it really was. If he hadn't have known Danny was always like this he would have said the Marines would have blasted it loose.

"No" Jamie said looking shocked that Danny would even have to ask that question.

"You done anything that is gonna land you in trouble?"

"No"

"Any outstanding warrants?"

"No"

Danny nodded.

"Okay." He said as if this was a problem solved. "You must be one of the strange ones then"

Joe closed his eyes again and wondered what on Earth was wrong with his brother. Jamie shot Joe a confused look and Joe shook his head.

Seriously with Danny ignorance was often the best form of bliss.

"So…has Linda said what they are doing with him?"

Jamie shrugged turning to look at his son still wrapped up warm in the bed.

"I think observation, we caught it early but Danny I don't like the way they are looking at me. Like I'm gonna take off. Nobody's said anything about CPS yet but what if they take him from me?"

Joe shot Danny a look out of the side of his eye and he knew that they were both thinking the same thing without even having to mention it. They were both cops. They were both cops and they knew what the next thing was going to happen. Jamie was an underage runaway with a son and a family. CPS was the least of their problems.

Their Dad was another one.

"Nobody is going to take you from your son" Danny said soothingly. "But Jamie…there is going to be a lot of questions that are asked about where you have been and how you intend to live. Now you can come and live with me and Linda that's fine but someone is gonna ask you questions and your gonna have to answer them."

Jamie looked at him and then looked to the door before he turned back to his son. Joe sighed. If the kid even thought about it he would handcuff him to the bed and make sure he stayed and he knew Danny was skipping around the bigger problem so instead he said.

"And there's Dad"

Jamie's gaze snapped back to him his eyes wide and Danny moved next to him as if to stop him but Joe ignored him.

"Jamie…Dad is going to find out that you are back and your gonna have to see him. That's a reality of you coming here, now you don't have to skip back into the whole family dinner thing if you don't want to, Danny and I can make sure the whole family knows to do this at your own pace but I think you have to get your brain around it. Danny and I are technically both AWOL so there's that too…look…you just…you just need to be prepared for what is going to happen next."

"He'll take Harrison"

Joe shot Danny a helpless look. He didn't know where this was coming from and for all his training and instincts he didn't know how to get it through to Jamie that while their father had many faults he was not going to snatch away Jamie's son. Once again he felt a borderline inhuman rage hit him the likes of which he didn't know what to deal with. He wasn't used to feeling this angry and this out of sorts and it hit him so strongly again that his little brother whose face had lit up like a Christmas tree whenever Joe or Danny had come round had, had all that happiness and all that trust and all that luck eroded by their mother and one conversation that would have never have happened had their father been home five minutes earlier.

And he couldn't even be angry with his Mom…because his Mom was dead.

"He won't" Danny said firmly. "Nobody is going to take your son from you. Let's get you fit, let's get both of you fit and warm and back home Jamie. You came back to New York right? I think you know that you need help. Let us help you. We can do things at your pace but let us help you either way"

Jamie looked at them both and then he looked at the boy in the bed and then finally he nodded.

Joe took a breathe and then rubbed his hands on his jeans. He had not wanted to say even to himself how deeply afraid he had been. That being said he suspected deep down without even having to look at his brother that his brother already knew that. Danny had been a kid who was good at reading people. His two career choices had done nothing to discredit that.

The baby fussed a little then and Jamie was up on his feet walking back over to stroke back some of the dark curls. Joe followed feeling more at ease now that they had gotten Jamie to at least stay. He looked down at his nephew who was plump and happy where as Jamie was thin and he knew suddenly why Jamie put food to one side instead of eating. He sighed looking down at the baby who was sleeping eyelashes fluttering against his plump cheeks.

"He's cute" Joe said to fill the awkward silence. It was true. And if he was being honest he didn't know what else to say. He had told Erin that when Nikki had been born but to be honest he didn't know much about babies only that you were supposed to say they were cute even when they weren't because telling a Mom her baby was ugly was liable to get you shot.

"He's learning to talk now" Jamie said and there was pride in his voice.

"Gonna be a right heartbreaker" Danny said bending down. "We are going to have a lot of fun Harry—"

"Harry?"

Danny shrugged. "I am your godfather" he said to the baby and Joe whipped around to stare appalled at his brother because hang on when was that decided?

"Hang on what makes you so sure that you're the godfather?"

"Because Harrison needs a cool uncle"
"I can be a cool uncle!"

"He needs one who can actually help him get the girls Joe. Or the boys as whatever the case may be"

"And you're the expert on that?"

"I got Linda"

"Linda feels sorry for you"

"Hey you little shit—"

"Don't you two have to call work or something?" Jamie said looking a little dazed by what was happening. Joe couldn't blame him but he slipped an arm around his brothers thin shoulders and considered it a win that Jamie didn't flinch back or pull away.

"Nah were good" he said easily. "I doubt Dad will notice"

"Too late" came a voice from the door and all three of them snapped to the door where standing there his hands in his overcoat looking at his son with wide eyes was their father.

Frank Regan.

And Joe didn't even need to look to know that the happy warm feeling had just disintegrated.

Cause to coin the common phrase, Joe knew the shit had really hit the pan now.

And there we go! I hope that you enjoy this chapter and I will do my best to bring you the next one sooner rather than later.

Next Chapter-Frank is here. Jamie is here. And nobody in the room knows how to react.
