By the time Toni made it to the backdoor, he saw that JD was already there, dressed in a black-and-navy suit. For the first time, JD wasn't feeling nervous and was actually excited.
"Toni... it's all happening today!" JD exclaimed as he stepped down from the steps. "I'm gonna be a 'Made Man', me!"
"JD, the untouchable?" Toni asked caustically as he guided JD through the alleyway. "God help us all!"
"I've waited a long time for this," JD replied, ignoring Toni's sarcasm. "It never woulda' happened without you, Toni."
"Hey, I'm crying over here," Toni replied caustically. "Come on!"
So the two made their way to the front of the bar, where they met Mickey Hamfists sitting inside a parked black Sentinel.
"Hey Mickey!" JD called, waving to him. "How ya doing?!"
"The ceremony's in Harwood," Mickey claimed as Toni and JD hopped inside the Sentinel.
JD took the front seat while Mickey climbed in the back, giving Toni room on the driver's seat, and Toni began to drive off.
"This is great!" JD chattered excitedly as Toni made a right turn on the road. "I slaved for the Sindaccos for years and nothing! Those bastards kept me down just 'cause of a little Irish blood in my veins. But Salvatore, god bless him, he don't let a little thing like that get in the way. Let's turn on some tunes."
JD turned on the radio, and "You Get What You Give" by New Radicals was blaring loudly through the speakers. JD just bobbed his head to the music.
His excitement didn't last long though. Because right when Toni drove through Hepburn Heights, JD saw that the Sindacco members were arriving in Argentos through the rear-view mirror, apparently outraged of JD's betrayal towards them as they fired at the Sentinel.
"Oh, damn!" JD cried out. "No!"
When one of the vehicles sped up to the side of the Leones' Sentinel, Toni wasted no time as he pulled out his SMG and fired back. When another vehicle of the Sindacco members' vehicle sped to the other side, Mickey himself fired back at them as Toni drove down the road. The chase went on until both of the Sindacco members' vehicles caught fire. Toni drove far enough to circumvent the subsequent explosion as he continued to make his way to Harwood, and the music continued blaring through the speakers.
"Toni, man, you've got to chill out," JD warned. "Ah, Toni, I tell ya! I can't believe this is happening. Finally, huh Toni? To be a 'made man'. I'm so excited to get to the ceremony."
"Let's not act all effervescent now, JD," Toni told him as he pulled to a stop at the junkyard right next to the car crusher. "Being in the mob is serious business."
By the time Toni made it to the junkyard, JD then looked around, and Toni turned off the radio. "Hey, are we there?" he asked. "Where's Salvatore? Toni, the first drink's on me."
But before he knew it, he heard a gun cocking back. "And this shot's on me," Mickey replied, pointing a .375 pistol to the back of JD's head. "Happy Halloween, you treacherous fucker!"
Before JD even had time to react, Mickey quickly pulled the trigger and fired two shots to the back of JD's head, killing him instantly.
Toni and Mickey then hopped out of the vehicle to stare at JD's corpse. There was a profuse amount of blood pouring rapidly out of his left ear as his corpse lay on the left side. Mickey then tucked his weapon to his belt.
"Hey, the guy was a fucking rat!" Mickey explained. "He screwed over his own boss! Disgrazia'. Who's to say he wouldn't have done the same thing to Salvatore? Salvatore could never have trusted that motherfucker. Dump the fucking car in the river. You can drop me off on the way."
"What are ya, fucking stupid?!" Toni replied. "Do you know how many cops are scattered in this city?! Do you know how much blood is leaking in this car?! And you want me to dump this car in the goddamn river?! And on top of that, drive you home, where the cops could easily follow a car with a bloody corpse up front?!"
"Hey, it was just a suggestion," Mickey replied nonchalantly. "All evidence would be terminated if we... "
"Forget it!" Toni interrupted abruptly. "We ain't getting the cops' attention all because you want to be a fucking moron and not think this thing through!"
"Well, how else you expect us to get rid of the fucking body?!" Mickey asked.
Toni just pointed behind him. "You think THIS will give away evidence?" he asked Mickey, pointing to the car crusher. "We position this car at the right angle and watch as the crane grabs and hoists this bloody mess of a vehicle into the crusher. JD's body is crushed along with it, no evidence displayed, we walk away clean men!"
"Well shit," Mickey claimed. "I could have done that!"
"Just watch out!" Toni told him.
He returned to the driver's side of the Sentinel and backed up in the middle of the spot. Once he saw the crane lowering down, he quickly hopped out and inched away as far as he could. Toni and Mickey then watched as the magnetic crane grabbed onto the Sentinel, hoisted it off the ground, motioned it to the car crushed, and dropped it inside as the top closed tightly. The car made a loud crunching sound inside.
"Well, this is nice," Mickey muttered sarcastically. "Now I have to call for a ride to get back home."
So Mickey pulled out his cellphone and punched in a number. "Yeah," he said as he held the phone to his ear. "It's Mickey. Toni and I are at the junkyard in Harwood. I need you to pick us up."
In just ten minutes, a Leone Sentinel had arrived, and Toni and Mickey hopped inside, with one of the Leone members sliding to the passenger's seat for Toni to take the wheel. "My house in Portland View, pronto, Toni!" Mickey demanded.
So Toni took the path leading back on the road, where he drove straight down through Saint Mark's. He looked around, wary of any cops appearing in eyesight. The vehicles on the road were all riding steadily, and the clouds up above remained white as they smothered the entire sky. The wind started picking up a bit as Toni made a right turn on the road.
"So yous guys whacked JD, huh?" one of the Leone members asked.
"The guy ratted out on the Sindaccos," Mickey replied as Toni made a left turn on the road leading to Portland View, "and you should know that anyone who breaks the omerta gets the bullet. We don't recruit a rat in the mob."
"And this idiot here wanted to dump the fatass' body in the river," Toni added, y'know, drive through the city, where the fucking cops could spot us!"
"What are ya, fucking stupid?!" the other Leone member asked Mickey. "Do you know how many cops are scattered in this city?! Do you know how... "
"Yeah, yeah, I know!" Mickey growled vociferously. "I already heard it from Toni the first time! Now shut the fuck up!"
After a while, Toni finally pulled up in front of Mickey's house in Portland View, and Mickey hopped out of the vehicle. Toni watched as Mickey walked into his house, and Toni made a U-turn to drive straight down the road through Saint Mark's. He then stopped by the alleyway, parked the vehicle, and hopped out. He stared at the other Leone members, one of whom slid to the driver's seat.
"You guys head out," he told the Leone members. "I'll be over at my place. It's been a long ass day for me, and I really need to rest."
Toni watched as the Sentinel sped away. He took a deep breath of exhaustion and walked to his apartment down the alleyway. It's been hours since he's last been inside.
