Inuyasha reached out for Kagome's hand holding it for a split second before slipping a folded piece of paper in her hands before pulling her close to him secretly loving the gasp that escaped passed her lips, he placed his lips a hairs breath away from her ear before whispering, "come home soon, yeah?" He then stepped back, releasing her hand, giving her a smirk before he walked away leaving a breathless Kagome in his wake.
Once Kagome got her bearings back, she opened the paper up seeing that there was an address written on it. She looked up and noticed that most of the people had left saved for Kikyo and her stepfather.
"Good job, sister." Kikyo said with a nasty smile curling her lips.
"Just make sure the hospital bills are paid." Kagome said before walking away from her half-sister and leaving the building. Sliding in her car, she started it before bringing the piece of paper out once more before putting it in her car's GPS then driving off to her new home.
About thirty minutes later, she pulled up to a huge house - flabbergasted at the sheer size of the house, Kagome looked at the piece of paper once more before checking her GPS. Seeing that she put the numbers in right she looked out of her window at the house with her mouth hanging wide open before stepping out of her vehicle and walking up to the door, passing other cars that made her classic Chevy Bel Air look like a hunk of scrap metal. Sure, there were a few dents in her car and the paint was so faded that you could hardly tell that the color was turquoise, however, she loved her car because it was the last thing her father had given her before he had passed away. She remembered the countless hours of him working on it and showing a five-year-old Kagome what all the parts were and how they worked together. The memory morphed into a fifteen-year-old Kagome working on the car by herself with her father's proud watchful eyes on her, ready to answer whatever question she had, he had taught her everything she needed to know about car repairs - from everything under the hood, to under the car and how to change a tire. It wasn't long after her sixteenth birthday that her father had passed away from unknown causes. That car had a lot of history and a whole lot of memories that Kagome wasn't ready to let go. A few days after her father's funeral, she found out she was pregnant, as well as her mom shoving her new relationship in Kagome's face - which made Kagome see red, but what could she do about it? They fought over it for days with Kagome trying to get it threw her mom's thick skull that it was way too soon after her husband's passing to jump right into a new relationship! Her mother wouldn't hear any of it and when her mom and stepfather found out that she was pregnant, her stepfather demanded that she moved out, leaving Kagome shocked when her mother didn't try to change his mind, so she left and has been alone ever since.
Shaking her head free of those memories, the time being, she took a deep breath and wiped the memories leaking from her eyes away and opened the door to what she was sure was a castle instead of a house. Walking in she was hit with the loud music thumping down the long hallway she was in, she walked towards the music but stopped when she walked past a huge kitchen that had a large spread of different kinds of food lying, unguarded, on the kitchen island. Her stomach made a loud grumble prompting her to cover her stomach with her hand and walk closer to the island, standing right next to the food now, her mouth started to water making her reach her hand out and reach towards the spiral ham that was calling her name.
She was so far into food heaven that she didn't notice the three pairs of eyes looking at her with amusement in them.
"We didn't know what you liked, so we had the cooks cook just about everything we could think of." Inuyasha said making Kagome jump and turn around to look at them, finding Inuyasha with his arms crossed over his chest and a smirk on his face as he leaned up against the open door.
Sango and Miroku couldn't help themselves as they doubled over in laughter at the piece of ham hanging from Kagome's mouth.
Blushing as she removed the ham from her mouth, she looked at the ground. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have come in here and start eating, that was rude of me. It's just that it's been a while since I've had anything besides crackers and ramen to eat." She explained causing the two laughing to stop instantly.
"Why haven't you've eaten anything?" Sango asked in concern.
Kagome shrugged her shoulders. "Hospital bill was more important than me eating."
"Hospital bill?" Inuyasha asked in confusion, she looked like a healthy girl to him - maybe she was sick before and now she's better?
"Um," Kagome hesitated not sure how Phantom was going to like her having a son.
"If you don't feel comfortable telling us then that's okay." Miroku said with an understanding look on his face.
Inuyasha walked up to her grabbing her hand and taking her to where they kept the plates before giving her one. "Here, eat, then we will go to the room where the party is."
Kagome nodded as she took the plate, sure as hell not going to turn down the offer of food, she got lost in his beautiful golden eyes for a few seconds before she shook her head and put a little food on her plate.
After she was done eating, they made their way to the party room where Kagome could see all the people that was at the wedding dancing while holding either red solo cups or bottles of beer. Although, some were just standing on the sidelines talking and drinking some soda.
"Come, let me introduce you to the mayor and chief of police." Inuyasha said as he directed Kagome towards two of the few people standing on the sidelines.
"Ah, Phantom!" A balding chubby man exclaimed as he raised up his can of soda. "How goes it?"
"It goes well." Inuyasha nodded towards the man, he could tell the man had recently snorted cocaine just by the way he was acting.
A slender man with long well-kept black hair that was tied in a high ponytail and piercing blue eyes walked closer to them. "Let me introduce myself to your lovely bride." He said and Kagome couldn't help the feeling of apprehension that shivered down her spine. "I'm the chief of police, my name is Koga." He said as he held out his hand for Kagome to shake it.
Kagome placed her hand in his, but instead of him shaking it - Koga pulled her hand to his mouth before placing a kiss against her knuckles. "Oh, uh, my name is Kagome, it's nice to meet you."
"And I am Watannabee, I am the mayor!" The chubby balding man said in a hyper type of way as he grabbed Kagome's hand a shook it with vigor.
For the next few hours was spent with Inuyasha introducing her to almost everyone in the room, then they walked back to the sidelines for about another hour before the food that Kagome had found in the kitchen was rolled into the room. Everyone ate, Kagome having another full plate of food, soon after they ate everyone bid their goodbyes with Koga once again kissing Kagome on the knuckles and sent her a dazzling smile. Kagome smiled politely, though she didn't like the attention he showed towards her - and, though she didn't know, Inuyasha didn't either - he vowed to keep an eye on him to make sure he didn't try to pull a fast one.
With everyone gone, except for Inuyasha grabbed Kagome's hand once again and led her toward one of the many couches that was in the room before sitting down and faced Kagome once she sat down.
"Tell me about yourself." Inuyasha said.
"Um, well, my name is Kagome Higurashi, I'm twenty-four years old and I lost my job last month due to too many call ins." Kagome started before placing her finger against her check and looked up in thought. "My favorite color is green, any color of green, my favorite food is taco pizza, my favorite drink is fruit punch Gatorade, my favorite shows are sMothered, I Love a Momma's boy, 1000-pound sisters and Hell's Kitchen - I also like to watch murder mystery on YouTube - my favorites are Stephanie Harlowe, Bailey Sarian and Explore With Us. I also like to watch kallmekris, selinaspookyboo, Sam and Colby and Brandon Farris. I love working on cars and hope to one day be able to open up my own mechanic shop. I hate it when it gets too hot but also hate it when it gets too cold, I like whether warm, I love thunderstorms and always dreamed about having one of those round rooms that are made out of just glass with a huge bed in it and just lay there watching the storm. I have an old beat-up Chevy Bel Air that my dad and I worked on since I was five that he gave to me before he passed away shortly after my sixteenth birthday. Um, yeah, I can't think of anything else that I feel comfortable telling you." Kagome said. "What about you, Phantom?"
"For starters, my name is Inuyasha Takahashi, I'm twenty-eight and I am the out-casted son of the Takahashi Enterprise's." Inuyasha paused for a few moments studying her face to see if she had any reactions to what he just said, when he didn't see any changes in her face he continued. "I was five years old my parents adopted my sister," he said gesturing toward his sister, "Sango, she was four when she came to live with us and we connected well together so when my parents kicked me out when I turned fifteen, she decided to come with me. When they kicked me out, I started going by the name Phantom to keep my identity secret, and since my parents kept me mostly a secret, no one knew what I looked like so going by a different name worked very well for me. Though, people do know that my parents have a son, no one knows who his is or where he is, with works just fine for me - I don't want anything to do with them. I ran the streets for a long while before meeting Miroku here," he said pointing toward Miroku, "I told him that we needed to find a way to make quick money and he introduced me to the man that was basically running the drug game, he gave me a job and I quickly climbed the ladder - he told me all his secrets and told me that he is a mafia boss and wanted me to be his right hand man and for Miroku to be his left hand man, he said that he needed Sango to be a decoy to get the people he needed to teach a lesson to where he needed them to be. We talked about our options and agreed to the terms right away. A few years later, I am the new mafia boss and Miroku is my right hand man while Sango is my left hand man, er, woman. My favorite color is red, my favorite food is Ramen, my favorite drink is Dr. Pepper, my favorite show is Breaking Bad. I also enjoy thunderstorms and know nothing about fixing cars." Inuyasha finished.
Once Inuyasha was finished talking, Kagome had asked some questions but didn't judge him or act nasty towards what he chose to do with his life, his parents really left him no choice but to become what he is now. There had been a time where she really considered becoming a dealer herself, however, she got a job that paid good money prompting her to take the job instead of turning to selling drugs. Now, though, if she knew that she would lose that job because her boss was an asshole that didn't take fucking doctor's notes, she would have chosen the dealer job. She took a minute to really study Inuyasha as it seemed he was studying her at the same time; she noticed that hair was long, silver and looked so soft that she wanted to run her fingers through his locks to see how they felt, she noticed how gorgeous his eyes were, she was afraid she'd get lost in them and never find her way out. She noticed his fangs sticking slightly out his lip and then noticed something moving on top his head and saw two little dog ears that she nearly let out a happy squeal and had to force herself to stay where she was and not tackle the man to the ground to rub his ears.
"There are a few rules that I must asked that you follow." Inuyasha said taking Kagome's look away from his ears.
"What are they?" Kagome asked.
"While in public you are to call me Phantom, only in private can you call me Inuyasha." Inuyasha instructed.
"Okay, easy enough. What's the next one." Kagome asked tilting her head.
"We can live separate lives, meaning you do your thing and I do mine, however - I would hate to learn that my wife is pregnant with someone else's kid." Inuyasha said as he eyed her.
"Ain't no one rushing to be with me like that anyway, so there's no problem with that." Kagome said feeling a twinge of gilt about not telling him about Hiro. Soon, she told herself, as soon as she could find a job so she could financially support her and Hiro - she would tell Inuyasha then. "Anymore?" She asked him as she raised an eyebrow.
"I'll let you know if I come up with anymore." Inuyasha said with a smirk.
They spent a few hours telling Sango's and Miroku's interests and how they got together, and Sango telling Kagome that they were going to be the best of friends because they liked the same shows and YouTube channels. After they were done talking, Sango and Miroku bid Kagome and Inuyasha a goodnight and left for their room.
Kagome let out a yawn and stretched her arms above her head.
"Are you tired?" Inuyasha asked in a quiet tone.
"Yeah, where can I sleep?" Kagome asked.
"What do you mean? You're my wife, you'll sleep with me." Inuyasha said with a smirk.
"Wha-" Kagome gawked at Inuyasha. "I-I'm not ready for something like that."
Inuyasha chuckled. "I'm only kidding. You can sleep in the room across from mine." He said before motioning for her to follow him. They bid each other goodnight as they went into their respective rooms.
The weekend came and went, and Monday rolled around as Kagome walked into the kitchen and saw that Inuyasha, Miroku and Sango were already sitting around the island.
"Good morning, Kagome." Sango smiled.
"Good morning." Kagome said smiling back before sitting down at the empty chair waiting for the cook to bring them breakfast. She had been thinking about telling them about the hospital bills as well as telling them about Hiro, she was scared on how they would react knowing that she had a son. "Um, I need to-" She began before her phone started ringing, fishing her phone out of her pocket she saw that it was the hospital calling before looking up. "Do you mind if I take this?"
"No, go ahead." Inuyasha answered.
Kagome nodded her thanks before flipping her phone open and pressing the green button to answer the call. "Hello?" She said as she placed the phone to her ear. A few minutes passed before she gasped as she shot out of her chair so fast that it pushed the chair back a few feet before falling backwards. "What do you mean he's in a coma!?" She shouted before listening to the other line. "Oh God, I'm coming, I'll be there soon!" She hung up the phone before shoving it back in her pocket and excusing herself from the table and conversation stating that she needed to go to the hospital right now. She grabbed her purse and dug for her keys while she ran outside, unlocking her car she threw herself inside before jamming the keys in the ignition and turning the key - however, instead of her car starting, she heard a loud bang and black smoke coming from the hood. "Shit!" She screamed, hitting the steering wheel. "Shit, shit, shit!" She said with every bang to the steering wheel. Tears fell freely from her eyes as she wondered how the hell she was going to get to the hospital. A knock on the door made her look up and saw Inuyasha, Miroku and Sango standing there, she opened the door and stepped out.
"Get in my car, we'll take you to the hospital." Kagome nodded as she climbed into Inuyasha's car.
Arriving at the hospital, Inuyasha asked if they could come in with her and at her nod of approval everyone exited the car and followed a running Kagome to the room that was empty.
"Where is he!?" Kagome shouted right as a doctor rounded the corner.
"Oh, Kagome, Hiro was taken to ICU, follow me I will take you to his new room."
"Okay thank you, Dr. Hojo." Kagome responded before following the doctor.
Arriving at the room that housed a little brown headed boy lying asleep on the bed with tubes and wired connected everywhere on him made Kagome bust out crying as she ran and hugged the little boy.
"I'll leave you for a minute." Dr. Hojo said before making his leave.
Inuyasha walked up behind her, with Sango and Miroku following close behind him, before placing a comforting hand on her back. "Kagome, who is he?" He asked.
"I was about to tell you this morning, but the phone call interrupted me." Kagome began as she sniffled and wiped her eyes. "This is Hiro, he's my seven-year-old - almost eight here in a few days - he has leukemia."
"Why didn't you tell me after we got married, don't you think I deserved to know that my new wife had a kid?" Inuyasha asked with an emotion in his eyes that Kagome couldn't quite name.
"I-I don't know, I was afraid of how you might act if you found out." Kagome answered looking at the floor in shame.
"You still should have told me." Inuyasha huffed out.
"And tell you what, Phantom, huh!?" Kagome snapped losing her cool. "That some weird woman that came up begging you to marry her, a complete stranger, in place of her sister - and, oh yeah, let's not forget that you're a stepfather now to a little boy who has cancer! How crazy would that have been for you!? How would I even come to bring up that conversation with you! So, yeah, I hid it from you because I was scared that you would kick me out and I would have abso-fucking-lutely nowhere else to go because another thing my landlord kicked me out of my apartment! I am behind on everything because I got fired from my job because my boss gave zero fucks about the doctor's notes that I had! I have no money, no food, about to have no car because I was forced to take a loan out on it in order to pay a hospital bill - oh God, I can't lose my car!" She yelled as she crumpled to the floor as deep bodied sobs wrecked her slim form.
It took a minute for Inuyasha to digest the information as he bent down so he could rub her back in what he hoped was comforting to her. "What about his father." He asked as Kagome's sobs began to subside.
Kagome did a humorless laugh as she wiped her eyes. "We met when I was fourteen and he was sixteen, we had a happy relationship. When I turned sixteen, I got pregnant, he was excited to become a dad. I gave birth to a healthy baby boy, and we named him Hiro, we were a happy family until Hiro turned two. He started to get sick and so we took him to the doctor, and they ran tests that told us that he had cancer. When his dad found out the devastating news, he told me that he would not raise a sick child and so he left. Hiro and I fought hard for almost two years before he went into remission, we were so happy that he was doing better. We were told that it could come back, but we were hopeful that it would stay away. However, our wish didn't come true. When he turned six, he started getting sick again, so I brought him back into the hospital. There it was determined that the cancer was back and worse than before, we cried the entire day." Kagome said with a hiccup.
"That piece of shit!" Inuyasha growled making Kagome look up at him. "I'll kill him if you want me too."
Kagome gave him a small smile and shook her head.
At that moment the doctor walked in looking over at charts. "Hiro slipped in a coma late last night, however, due to your bill still not being paid we cannot do any treatment - though we did put him on life support."
"Wait, wait!" Kagome said, standing up. "What do you mean the bill hasn't been paid?" She asked.
"Um, you said that your bill would be paid Friday night, though, we never received any payment." Dr. Hojo explained.
"Those mother fuckers!" Kagome shouted before stomping out the room and out the hospital with the others following behind her. "I'll kill them!" She screamed as she got into the car before she slammed her door shut.
"Kill who?" Inuyasha asked as he shut his own door before starting the car.
"My half-sister and stepfather." Kagome answered looking out the window. "Kikyo was supposed to marry you, I needed money and asked my mother if I can borrow the money, Kikyo said that if I married you in her place then they would let me have the money. They were supposed to pay the bill after we got married but they still haven't."
"What does that mean for your son?" Inuyasha asked.
"It means that if I don't get the money to the hospital my son dies!" Kagome said as she cried harder.
"Where do you want to go?" Inuyasha asked, pissed that her half-sister didn't keep to her word.
"My mother's house." Kagome answered.
Hope you enjoyed this chapter! See you next time! Bye!
