Our heroes were still in Hulbury and staying at the Pokémon Center. Ash lay awake in his bed, he to Pikachu lying next to him, he was already deep asleep. Ash turned toward his nightstand and looked at the Pokéballs of Grookey and Rookidee.
"We can do this guys, all of us are going to win that badge," Ash said.
Ash looked up at the ceiling, closed his eyes and sighed deeply. A few minutes later Ash fell asleep.
The next day everyone was awake early, Ash and Roan sat with their Pokémon and Chloe's I the dining room eating breakfast.
"Ready for the Gym Challenge, Ash?" Roan asked.
"Yes," Ash replied.
"Nessa is a strong trainer," Roan reminded Ash.
"I know," Ash said.
"I mean you saw that Drednaw of hers in action, beat Team Rocket's Pokémon easily," Roan said.
Ash didn't need to be reminded how strong that Drednaw is. Chloe approached with some Pokémon food and put it in the trays of Pikachu, Rookidee and Grookey.
"You guys need to eat good," Chloe said.
"What is that food Chloe?" Ash asked.
"That is special vitamin filled food, it will give your Pokémon an extra boost," Chloe explained, as she sat down.
"Thank you," Ash said.
"No problem," Chloe said.
"I think they could use it, too," Ash said.
"Ash, you can do this, you've trained so much and so hard," Chloe said.
"Yes, and if you put your heart into it, it should work," Roan said.
"Your Pokémon believe in you," Chloe said.
"And so do we," Roan said.
"Thank you guys," Ash said.
The three trainers continued eating their breakfast. After everyone finished, Roan and Chloe retrieved their Pokémon back to their Pokéballs. Ash sat down with his Pokémon.
"Okay guys, it's almost time, are you ready?" Ash asked his Pokémon.
"Pikachu," Pikachu squeaked.
"Rookidee," Rookidee chirped.
"Grookey," Grookey chattered.
"That's the spirit, we are not going to surrender easily and we are going for it, all in!" Ash said.
"Pika!" Pikachu squeaked.
"Rookidee!" Rookidee chirped.
"Grookey!" Grookey chattered.
"That second badge will be ours!' Ash cheered.
Ash's Pokémon fired themselves up, showing their trainer that they were ready for battle. Ash called Rookidee and Grookey back to their Pokéball. Pikachu jumped on Ash's shoulder and the three trainers left the Pokémon Center and headed to the Gym.
Ash and his friends arrived at the Gym and were met there by Nessa.
"Hello, Ash," Nessa greeted.
"Hi Nessa," Ash said.
"Are you ready for the challenge?" Nessa asked.
"I'm ready," Ash said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu squeaked.
That's the spirit, Nessa said. You get changed and when you're ready you go in through that blue door and you'll be told what to do.
"Okay," Ash said.
"See you in a minute, Ash," Ness said.
"Good luck," Roan said.
'You can do this Ash," Chloe said.
Nessa walked through the door that will lead to the battlefield. Roan and Chloe walked through the other door and headed toward the stands.
Ash went to change in the locker room. When he was ready he stood in front of the blue door.
"Are you ready, Pikachu?" Ash asked.
Pikachu looked at his best friend and nodded his head. "Pikachu," he squeaked.
"Okay, let's go for it," Ash said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu squeaked.
Ash opened the door and walked in. Ash and Pikachu saw a large room with all the waterfalls.
"Whoa," Ash said, as he looked in amazement at the waterfalls.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"Let's read what we have to do," Ash said.
Solve the Waterfall Puzzle. You have to press the red, yellow, and blue buttons in the correct order. These buttons turn the waterfalls on and off, allowing you to progress. Once you turned off the three waterfalls at the end, you can enter the battlefield.
"A puzzle? But I'm not good at that at all," Ash said.
"Pika, Pika, Pikachu," Pikachu squeaked.
"You're right, I shouldn't think like that, we can do this," Ash said.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
Ash and Pikachu got started on the puzzle. Ash managed to do the first few well. But when he sent Pikachu toward a button, he pressed another button, the waterfall appeared and Pikachu almost got hit.
"Pika!" Pikachu squeaked, as he fell on the ground.
"Pikachu! Ash said, he ran to Pikachu. "Pikachu, are you all right?"
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"So that was not the right button," Ash said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu squeaked.
"Yes, I know," Ash said.
Ash helped Pikachu up and together they continued trying to solve puzzle. After many attempts and almost getting hit by the waterfalls a few times, Ash and Pikachu were almost at the end. All Ash had to do now was press the right button and turn off the last three waterfalls.
"We're almost there, Pikachu," Ash said.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"But the question now is, which button do we press?" Ash asked.
Pikachu shrugged his shoulders. "Pikachu," he squeaked.
Ash looked back and forth at the blue and the yellow button. he walked toward the blue button and pressed it. The three waterfalls went off.
"We solved the puzzle," Ash said.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"We did it! We did it Pikachu," Ash said, the picked up Pikachu and spun him around.
"Pikachu," Pikachu squeaked.
"But it's not over yet, We still have a Gym Fight waiting for us," Ash said, and he turned to Pikachu. "Are you ready?"
"Pikachu," Pikachu squeaked.
"Good," Ash said.
Ash walked with Pikachu up the stairs, the doors opened and Ash went inside.
Team Rocket was still in town in the meantime, they had woken up and went among the garbage looking for food.
"Hey what's that doing there!"
Team Rocket turned around and saw a man standing there. "Who are you?" The trio asked.
"I'm Waldo, the head waiter of the restaurant and I order you to stop stealing our food," Waldo said.
"It's been thrown away," Jessie said.
"You have no more say in this," James said.
"Those garbage cans are ours and you're on our property, so it's ours, Waldo said, he took out his phone. I'm going or I'm calling the police.
"No, no police please, Meowth begged.
"We'll do anything, but don't call them," James said.
"Anything?" Waldo asked.
"Really anything," James said.
"All right, I'll make you a deal," Waldo said.
"What kind of deal?" Meowth asked.
"You three come and work here today and in exchange I won't call the police," Waldo said.
"Work here?" Jessie asked.
"Yes and everything reward you get a free meal," Waldo said.
"Give us one minute please," Jessie said.
Jessie took James and Meowth to the side and they huddled up.
"Should we do it?" James asked.
"We are Team Rocket and Team Rocket does nothing for free," Jessie said.
"I'm willing to forget about it for now and accept the deal," Meowth said.
"Meowth," Jessie said.
"I agree with him," James said.
"James," Jessie said.
"If we do it, we get a free meal out of it," James said.
"And the police won't get involved," Meowth said.
"Come on Jessie, this is a win-win situation for us," James said.
"Fine we'll take the deal, but no one but the three of us will find out," Jessie said.
"Deal," Meowth said.
Team Rocket walked up to Waldo. "We'll do it," Jessie said.
"All right, come in with me," Waldo said.
Team Rocket followed Waldo into the restaurant.
Ash had reached the end of the tunnel and saw that the battle field was a large indoor swimming pool with numerous floating platforms. Roan and Chloe sat in the stands. And Nessa was on the other side of the field and she seemed ready for battle.
"Congratulations you made it," Nessa said.
"I don't care how hard your puzzle was, I didn't give up," Ash said. "Because I'm going to win that badge."
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"Let's see what you can do," Nessa said.
"I will show you," Ash said.
"This is the Gym Fight between challenger Ash and Gym Leader Nessa. This will be a three-on-three battle and the fight is over when one trainer has no Pokémon left to fight. And only the challenger allowed switch between Pokémon during this battle."
"Are you ready for it Ash?" Nessa asked.
"I'm ready," Ash said.
Nessa grabbed a Pokéball and threw it. "Goldeen," she said.
"Goldeen, Goldeen," Goldeen cried.
Her first Pokémon is a Goldeen, Roan said, grabbing his Rotom-Phone.
Goldeen, the Goldfish Pokémon. A Water type. When the weather warms up, Goldeen form schools and swim upriver. Some say this is a sign that spring has arrived.
"Okay, Grookey I choose you!" Ash said as he summoned Grookey.
"Grookey," Grookey chattered.
"Smart of you to use a Grass-type, but that doesn't mean you're going to win this right away," Nessa said.
"Neither did I," Ash said.
"Let the battle begin!"
"Okay, Grookey, use BRANH POKE," Ash commanded.
"Grookey," Grookey chattered,
"Goldeen dive underwater and HORN ATTACK," Nessa commanded.
Grookey came at Goldeen, but he dove underwater and disappeared. Goldeen jumped out of the water behind Grookey and used her Horn Attack and hit Grookey hard.
"Oh no, Grookey!" Ash shouted.
"That one looked like it hit hard," Roan said.
"With a pool like that, Goldeen could move easily, but not Grookey," Chloe said.
"You know Ash, he'll think of something," Roan said.
"I hope he does," Chloe said.
"Grookey, are you all right?" Ash asked.
"Grookey straightened up and nodded his head. "Groo, Grookey," he chattered.
"Good," Ash said. "Grookey use RAZOR LEAF."
Before Nessa could give Goldeen any command, Goldeen was hit by Grookey's attack. Goldeen quickly recovered from the attack and the two Pokémon continued the fight.
Team Rocket was in the restaurant, Jessie and James were dressed as waiters and Meowth as one of the cooks, they stood in front of Waldo and the Chef, who did not seem very impressed with Team Rocket.
"Chef Chaz, this are Jessie, James and Meowth and they come to help us in the restaurant," Waldo said.
"This was the best you could find?" Chaz asked.
"We had to find people quickly on short notice and they also want to help out," Waldo said.
"In exchange for what?" Asked Clatyon.
"Excuse me?" James said.
"These three don't look like anything want to go for free," Chaz said. "So what do they want?"
"Whoa, he's good," Jessie said.
"In exchange for their help, I promised them a free meal," Waldo said.
"It's that we really need people right now," Chaz sighed.
"I promise everything will be fine," Waldo said.
"Make sure of that, because if those three mess something up you will lose your job," Chaz said to Waldo.
"Yes, Chef Chaz," Waldo said.
"And you three won't get your free meal," Chaz said. And he walked to the kitchen.
"He is not exactly what I call friendly," James said.
"He's strict, he's very passioned in his profession," Waldo said.
"But why do you let him talk to you like that, you're the head waiter here," Meowth said.
"I've only just been promoted to Head Waiter, Chef Chaz has been a boss here much longer and I find him a little scary sometimes," Waldo said.
"Get that," James said.
"So you three don't mess up and everybody wins," Waldon said.
"You've got it," Meowth said.
Team Rocket got to work. Jessie and James helped Waldo and the rest of the waiters serve and Meowth helped in the kitchen.
In the Hulbury Gym, the fight between Grooken and Goldeen was still going on.
"Grookey use BRANH POKE," Ash commanded.
"Grookey," Grookey chattered.
"Now Goldeen WATER PULSE," Nessa commanded.
"Goldeen," Goldeen cried. She used her attack and hit Grookey with it.
"And now SUPER SONIC," Nessa commanded.
Goldeen used Super Sonic and hit Grookey with her attack. Grookey was confused by the attack and began to thrash around him, stood at the edge of the platform and almost fell off. Ash grabbed Grookey's pokéball and called him back into his ball.
"Grookey, take some rest now," Ash said. Pikachu it's up to you now.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
Pikachu use QUICK ATTACK, Ash commanded.
Pikachu nodded his head, he used his attack and ran at a good speed towards Goldeen and hit her.
"Goldeen dive into the water," Nessa commanded.
"Goldeen," Goldeen cried.
"Be careful Pikachu, we don't know where Goldeen will come from," Ash said.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"Now Goldeen, HORN ATTACK," Nessa commanded.
Goldeen jumped out of the water and used her Horn Attack on Pikachu.
"Pikachu!" Ash shouted.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu squeaked.
"Are you okay?" Ash asked his best buddy.
"Pika," Pikachu as he nodded his head.
"Pikachu use IRON TAIL," Ash commanded.
"HORN ATTACK," Nessa commanded.
The two Pokémon used their attacks on each other, it was an even match.
"Goldeen, dive back into the water," Nessa commanded.
"Goldeen," Goldeen cried.
"Pikachu jump into the water and use THUNDERBOLT," Ash commanded.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
Pikachu jumped into the water and used Thunderbolt. Pikachu floated to the top and climbed onto the platform. Goldeen also floated up, but she was knocked out.
"Goldeen is unable to battle."
"Yes, Ash is off to a good start," Roan said.
"Let's hope he can keep this up," Chloe said.
"Yamper," Yamper barked.
"Well done, Pikachu," Ash said.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
Goldeen return," Nessa said, as she called Goldeen back to her Pokéball. She grabbed another "Pokéball and summoned her next Pokémon. "Now Arrokuda!"
"Let's see what the Pokédex can tell me," Ash said, as he took out his Rotom-Phone.
Arrokuda a barracuda like Pokémon. If it sees any movement around it, this Pokémon charges for it straightaway, leading with its sharply pointed jaw. It's very proud of that jaw.
"Pikachu you deserve some rest now," Ash said.
Pikachu walked up to Ash. Ash petted Pikachu's head and thanked him. Ash took out Rookidee's Pokéball.
"Now, Rookidee, I choose you!" Ash said, as he summoned his Rookidee.
"Rookidee," Rookidee chirped.
"Okay, Rookidee use PECK!" Ash commanded.
"Rookidee!" Rookidee chirped.
"Arrokuda, dodge and use AQUA JET!" Nessa commanded.
"Arro," Arrokuda cried.
Arrokuda dodged Rookidee's attack and then used Aqua Jet. Arrokuda hit Rookidee. Rookidee fell down into the water.
"Oh no, Rookidee!" Ash shouted.
"Arrokuda dive into the water and again AQUA JET!" Nessa commanded.
Arrokuda dove into the water, he used his attack on Rookidee again and Rookidee was blown out of the water. Arrokuda jumped out of the water.
"SCALD," Nessa commanded.
"Rookidee dodge it and then used FURY ATTACK," Ash commanded.
Rookidee managed to dodge Arrokuda's attack. He flew towards him and used his attack on him.
"Good Rookidee and now POWER TRIP," Ash commanded.
"Rookidee," Rookidee chirped.
"Arrokuda, use BITE!" Nessa commanded.
"Rookidee quickly dodge it," Ash commanded.
Rookidee didn't manage to dodge the attack in time. Ash saw that Rookidee was starting to get tired and grabbed his Pokéball.
"Rookidee, well done now take a break," Ash said, he called Rookidee back to his Pokéball and put it away. Ash grabbed Grookey's Pokéball. "Grookey, it's your turn again."
"Groo, Grookey!" Grookey chattered.
"Grookey, use RAZOR LEAF!" Ash commanded.
Grookey used Razor Leaf on Arrokuda and he hit him.
"Arrokuda use SCALD," Nessa commanded.
"Arrokuda," Arrokuda cried.
The battle continued between Grookey and Arrokuda. Both Pokemon gave everything they had, they managed to hit each other with attacks at times and also managed to dodge a few.
"Grookey, use BRACH POKE," Ash commanded.
"Let's finish this Arrokuda and use BOUNCE," Nessa commanded.
Grookey and Arrokuda came at each other and both hit each other with their attacks. Both Pokémon fell down on a platform and had knocked each other out.
"Grookey and Arrokuda are both unable to battle."
"Ash must defeat one more Pokémon and then he has won his second badge," Roan said.
"Yamp, Yamper," Yamper barked.
"Yes, but that's not going to be easy, because I'm sure which Pokémon Nessa is going to use last," Chloe said.
Ash and Nessa retrieved their Pokémon back to their Pokéballs.
"Grookey, you were great, thank you," Ash said.
"You fought fantastic Arrokuda," Nessa said, she grabbed a Pokéball and tossed it. "Drednaw, it's up to you."
"Drednaw," Drednaw cried.
"I was right," Chloe said.
"Drednaw, Ash has seen what it can do, we all have," Roan said.
"I hope Ash comes up with something good, because this is going to be a very tough fight," Chloe said.
Ash looked at Pikachu. "Are you ready for this Pikachu?" He asked.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"All right then, Pikachu I choose you," Ash said.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked as he jumped to the platform.
"Now you only have to defeat one of my Pokémon Ash, but you should know that my Drednaw will never give up easily, he will fight to the end," Nessa said.
"So will we, Pikachu, use QUICK ATTACK," Ash said.
Pikachu ran at Drednaw, who just stood still. Pikachu used his attack, but it didn't seem to do anything to Drednaw.
"Pika?" Pikachu squeaked.
"What, Drednaw didn't seem to have anything," Chloe said.
"He didn't even try to dodge the attack," Roan said.
"Drednaw use WATER GUN!" Nessa commanded.
Drednaw launched a powerful Water Gun and Pikachu was blown to the ground.
"Pikachu!" Ash said.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"Can you continue?" Ash asked.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked as he nodded his head.
"Okay, Pikachu VOLT TACKLE," Ash commanded.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
Pikachu activated his Volt Tackle and ran towards and Drednaw and hit him and because of this Drednaw did take some damage.
"Drednaw use JAW LOCK," Nessa commanded.
"Drednaw," Drednaw cried, he used is attack and grabbed Pikachu with his bite.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"No, Pikachu," Ash said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu squeaked.
"Pikachu use THUNDERBOLT!" Ash commanded.
Pikachu used Thunderbolt, the attack did damage, but Drednaw did not let go.
"Throw Pikachu into the air," Nessa commanded.
"Drednaw!" Drednaw cried as he tossed Pikachu up into the air.
"WATER GUN," Nessa commanded.
Drednaw used Water Gun and Pikachu shoot up and hit the ceiling hard. Pikachu fell down and was knocked out.
"Pikachu was unable to battle. Now challenger Ash also has only one Pokémon left."
Ash jumped from platform to platform until he reached Pikachu, he picked him up and went back to his side of the battlefield. Ash put Pikachu down on the ground.
"Thank you Pikachu," Ash said.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked softly
Ash grabbed Rookidee's Pokeball and summoned Rookidee. "Okay, Rookidee it's up to you," he said.
"Rookidee," Rookidee chirped.
"That's going to be very difficult for Rookidee," Chloe said.
"Why do you say that?" Roan asked.
"Drednaw is a Water/Rock type," Chloe pointed out.
"And Rock attacks are strong against a Flying type like Rookidee," Roan said.
Ash returned Rookidee to his Pokéball and activated his Dynamax Band. Ash threw the large Pokéball and Rookidee appeared in his Dynamax form.
"Rookidee use MAX DARKNESS!" Ash commanded.
"Rookidee!" Rookidee chirped.
Rookidee used the Dynamax attack on Drednaw and the attack was hit, but Drednaw was still standing. Nessa retrieved Drednaw back to his pokéball and activated her Dynamax band. She tossed the Pokéball, but Drednaw came out completely different.
"What's that?" Ash asked.
"That's Gigantamax," Chloe said.
"Oh no," Ash said.
Team Rocket was done helping in the restaurant.
"Thank you guys for your help," Waldo said.
"Yes, yes, what about our deal?" Jessie asked.
"Chef Chaz?" Waldo asked.
Chef Chaz walked up with two plastic bags in his hand filled with take-out containers. "You guys didn't mess up, he said."
"So?" James asked.
"So you guys get your food," Chaz said.
"Thank you," Team rocket said.
"I also added some extras for your Pokémon," Chaz said.
Team Rocket accepted the food and left the restaurant.
The fight between Rookidee and Drednaw was ongoing, but Ash had no more Dynamax turns and Rookidee became normal. Nessa commanded Drednaw to use G-Max Stonesurge and Rookidee was hit. And Drednaw also returned to normal. Rookidee lay on the ground and could barely move.
"Even though Drednaw has some damage now, Rookidee is in much worse shape. I don't know if he's going to keep this up," Ash said to himself.
"Rookidee," Rookidee chirped as he got up.
"Rookidee?" Ash said.
Rookidee let out a powerful cry and began to light up. Everyone watched as Rookidee began to evolve. The light disappeared and there now stood a Corvisquire.
"Unbelievable," Roan said.
"Rookidee evolved into Corvisquire," Chloe said.
"Corvisquire, Ash said as he grabbed his Rotom-Phone and opened up the Pokédex.
Corvisquire is a crow-like, avian Pokémon and the evolved form of Rookidee. Corvisquire is smart enough to use tools in battle, these Pokémon have been seen picking up rocks and flinging them or using ropes to wrap up enemies.
"Rooki... I mean Corvisquire you have evolved," Ash said.
"Corvisquire," Corvisquire crowed.
"Let's see what the new you can do," Ash said.
Corvisquire nodded his head. "Corvisquire," he crowed.
Cosvisquire spread his wings and started flying toward Drednaw and used Pluck on him.
"That's PLUCK," Chloe said.
"So not only did he evolve, he learned a new attack," Roan said.
"Come on Ash you can do it," Chloe cheered.
"Go for it Corvisquire," Roan cheered.
"Yamper!" Yamper barked.
"Pika, Pika!" Pikachu squeaked.
"You heard it Corvisquire," Ash said.
"Cor," Corvisquire crowed.
"Drednaw we're going to finish this, use WATER GUN," Nessa commanded.
"Corvisquire, dodge and use POWER TRIP," Ash commanded.
Drednaw used Water Gun. Corvisquire managed to dodge the attack and used his attack on Drednaw. Drednaw fell to the ground.
Drednaw is unable to battle, Corvisquire wins. And this means the victory goes to Ash the challenger.
"You did it Corvisquire," Ash cheered.
"Cor, Corvisquire," Corvisquire crowed.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu squeaked.
"Way to go Ash," Chloe said.
"Yes, that was awesome," Roan said.
"Yamp, Yamper," Yamper barked.
Moments later, Ash was standing outside the gym with his friends and his Pokémon, along with Nessa.
"That was a fantastic battle you put up Ash," Nessa said.
"Thank you," Ash said.
"I'm proud to present this to you," Nessa said, she handed Ash his badge.
"Thank you," Ash said. He smiled and held his newly earned badge up in the air. We did it! We got the Water Badge!
"Pi, Pikachu," Pikachu squeaked.
"Grookey!" Grookey chattered.
"Corvisquire!" Corvisquire crowed.
Ash now has his second badge. Not only that, his Rookidee has evolved into a Corvisquire and is now even stronger than before.
Team Rocket was at their balloon and together it and their Pokémon had eaten all the food they had gotten from the restaurant.
"That was delicious," Meowth said.
"Yes, it was worth helping," James said.
"So it's true what they say, hard work really does pay off," Meowth said.
"Okay, for once I agree," Jessie said.
"Wobbuffet," Wobbuffet cried.
