Book 3 Chapter 14: The Boiling Rock Part I
Amity's Intro
Water. Earth. Fire. Air.
Long ago, the four nations lived in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed her most, she vanished. A hundred years passed, and me, Willow and Gus discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Luz. and although her airbending skills are great, she has a lot to learn before she's ready to save anyone.
But I believe Luz can save the world.
The scene opens to the Western Air Temple at nightfall. Lilith is pouring tea to give to the members of Team Avatar.
(Cut to a tray full of tea cups with Lilith's hand holding a kettle and filling up the empty cups.) "No one can make tea like Kaldo" (Camera pans up to Lilith's face.) "but hopefully I learned a thing or two. Would you like to hear Kaldo's favorite tea joke?" Lilith asked
"Sure." Amity said (Cut to an overhead of the group sitting around a fire.)
"I like jokes." Luz said
"Bring it!" Boscha said
"Okay." (Serves tea to The Duke and Taru and stands up with her tray.) "Well, I can't remember how it starts, but the punch line" (The boys help themselves to the tea.) "is 'Leaf me alone, I'm bushed!'" (No response.) "Well, it's funnier when Kaldo tells it." Lilith said
"Right ... maybe that's because he remembers the whole thing." Willow said
Everyone else laughs. Lilith smiles a little.
"It's nice to get a chance to relax a little. It hardly ever happens." Camila said
Lilith hands tea to Geo and Boscha. She subsequently approaches Willow.
"Hey, can I talk to you for a second?" Willow asked (Stands up and walks out.)
Lilith sets down the tray of tea. The camera switches to a shot of her and Willow walking away from where the rest of the group is gathered.
"So, what's up?" Lilith asked (Appa wakes up and looks as they walk past him.)
"If someone was captured by the Fire Nation, where would they be taken?" Willow asked
"What do you mean? Who was captured?" Lilith asked
"When the invasion plan failed, some of our troops were taken. I just want to know where they might be." Willow said
"I can't tell you." Lilith said
"What? Why not?" Willow asked
"Trust me. Knowing would just make you feel worse." Lilith said (Turns to leave, but is stopped by Willow.)
"It's Gus' dad. He was captured too. we need to know what we put him through." Willow said
"It's not good, Willow." Lilith said
"Please." Willow said
"My guess is, they were taken to the Boiling Rock." Lilith said
"What's that?" Willow asked
"The highest security prison in the Fire Nation." (Willow looks at her, horrified.) "It's on an island in the middle of a boiling lake. It's inescapable." Lilith said
"So, where is this place?" Willow asked
"Why do you need to know? What are you planning?" Lilith asked
"Nothing." (Pauses for a moment.) "man, you're so paranoid." Willow said
"It's in the middle of a volcano between here and the Fire Nation. You guys actually flew right past it on your way here." Lilith said
"Thanks, Lilith." (Yawns.) "Just knowing makes me feel better." Willow said
(Sarcastically.) "Yeah, I'm sure it does." Lilith said
Fade to later that night. With everyone asleep, Gus and Willow sneaks away from everyone. They sigh and almost step on King, narrowly avoiding tripping over him and waking him up. They climb onto Appa, who awakes.
(To Appa.) "Shhh." Gus said
Appa goes back to sleep, as Gus and Willow climb on top of him. However, as they climb up, they notice Lilith is already in the saddle with her arms crossed.
"Not up to anything, huh?" Lilith asked
(Both he and Willow fall off Appa, their bag's contents fall out.) "Fine, you caught us. We're gonna rescue my dad. Are you happy now?" Gus asked
"I'm never happy." Lilith said
(Picking up the fallen items.) "Look, we have to do this. The invasion plan was Willow's idea, it was our decision to stay when things were going wrong." (Lilith jumps off of Appa.) "And it's my mistake, and it's my job to fix it. I have to regain my honor. You can't stop me, Lilith." Gus said (Pushes Lilith aside and begins to climb up Appa on Appa's saddle.)
"You need to regain your honor? Believe me, I get it. I'm going with you." Lilith said
"No. I have to do this alone." Gus said
"Don't ask him about that when he has someone with him." Willow said
"How are you going to get there? On Appa? Last time I checked, prisons don't have bison daycares." (Gus stops climbing, sighs, and looks back at Lilith.) "We'll take my war balloon." Lilith said (They walk off to the war balloon.)
Cut to Appa and Momo, still sleeping at sunrise. The Duke gives Appa some hay. Eda notices that Momo is holding a note.
"What does it say?" Boscha asked
"'Need meat. Gone fishing. Back in a few days. Gus, Willow and Lilith." (As she says this, Luz yawns and turns around to lie back down.) "One more thing. 'Luz, practice your firebending while I'm gone. Do twenty sets of fire fists and ten hot squats every time you hear a badgerfrog croak. Lilith.'" Eda said
A badgerfrog croaks, waking Luz from her rest.
"Right on time, who knew?" Amity asked
(Sighs.) "Nobody else has homework." (Stands up and walks to a spot and starts hot squatting while the others walk away.) "One hot squat, two hot squats, three hot squats, four hot squats …" Luz said
Scene cuts to Gus, Willow and Lilith in the air in the war balloon. Lilith blasts fire into the tank to keep it moving. A moment of awkward silence between the three follows.
"Pretty clouds." Willow said
"Yeah ... fluffy." (Willow whistles.) "What?" Lilith asked
"What? Oh, I didn't say anything. You know, a friend of mine actually designed these war balloons." Willow said
"No kidding." Lilith said
"Yep, a balloon ... but for war." Willow said
"If there's one thing my dad's good at, it's war." Lilith said (Blasts more fire into the tank.)
"Yeah, it seems to run in the family." Gus said
(Looks at Gus, defensively.) "Hey, hold on. Not everyone in my nation is like that." Lilith said
"We know, we know, you've changed." Willow said
(Downcast.) "I meant my lieutenant. He was more of a father to me. And I really let him down." LIlith said
"I think your lieutenant would be proud of you. Leaving your home to come help us? That's hard." Willow said
"It wasn't that hard." Lilith said
"Really? You didn't leave behind anyone you cared about?" Gus asked
"Well, I did have a girlfriend. Lai." Lilith said
(Smiles and looks at Lilith with interest.) "That gloomy girl who sighs a lot?" Willow asked
(Smiles.) "Yeah. Everyone in the Fire Nation thinks I'm a traitor. I couldn't drag her into it." Lilith said
"My first boyfriend turned into the moon." Willow said
(Shocked for a moment. Looks up at the sky briefly, before glancing back at Willow.) "That's rough, buddy." Lilith said
Nightfall. Gus is asleep, Willow as well while snoring loudly. Lilith continues to keep the tank full. She stops to look out in the distance.
"There it is!" (Gus and Willow awaken to see it.) "There's plenty of steam to keep us covered. As long as we're quiet, we should be able to navigate through it without being caught." Lilith said
As they enter the volcano's steam, the balloon begins losing altitude quickly.
(Frantically blasting fire into the tank.) "We're going down! The balloon's not working anymore!" Lilith shouted (Blasts fire up into the balloon.)
"The air outside is just as hot as the air inside so we can't fly!" Willow shouted
(Falls to the side as the balloon tips.) "So what are we supposed to do?" Gus asked
"I don't know! Crash-landing?" Willow asked
The balloon skids along the boiling water, splashing Willow's hand, which she shakes while blocking her mouth to prevent himself from screaming. The balloon hits the base of the rock, ejecting the three from it.
(Looking at the destroyed war balloon.) "How are we gonna get off the island if the balloon won't work?" Lilith asked
"We'll figure something out! I suspected it might be a one-way ticket." Gus said
"You knew this would happen and you wanted to come anyway?" Willow asked
(Walks to the destroyed balloon.) "My dad might be here! I had to come and see!" Gus said
"Kaldo always said I never thought things through. But this ... this is just crazy!" Lilith said
(Gathers parts from the balloon together.) "Hey, I never wanted you to come along in the first place! And for the record, I always think things through! But my plans haven't exactly worked, so this time, I'm playing it by ear. So there." Gus said (After the hot water on the balloon burns his hand, Gus kicks it into the water.)
"What are you doing?" Willow asked
"It doesn't work anyway, and we don't want anyone to find it." Gus said
"I hope you know what you're doing." (The three turn to look at the prison.) "There's no turning back now." Lilith said
Morning. Gus, Willow and Lilith have entered the prison, and come out of a supply room filled with reserve guard uniforms. The three wear prison guard uniforms.
"I hope these disguises work." Lilith said
"We just need to lay low and find my dad as soon as possible." Gus said
"I hope it's soon, cause my uniform is a bit tight." Willow said (tugs on her uniform effortlessly.)
A series of guards run by. One of them runs back and looks at them.
"Guards! There's a scuffle in the yard. Come on." the male guard said
The three go to the yard. Prisoners are gathered in a circle as the guards move through to the inside.
"I didn't do anything! I'm going back to my cell." the tall prisoner said
(Whips fire at him.) "Stop right there, Chit Sang." the bully guard said
Lilith tries to approach, but Gus grabs his arm to stop her.
"We can't blow our cover." Gus said
"I've had it with your unruly behavior!" the bully guard said
"What did I do?" Chit Sang asked
"He wants to know what he did." (To Gus, Willow and Lilith.) Isn't that cute?" the bully guard asked (Gives them a look when they say nothing.)
"Uh, very cute, sir." Lilith said
"Super cute." Gus and Willow said
(Walks up to Chit Sang.) "You didn't bow down when I walked by, Chit Sang!" the bully guard said
"What? That's not a prison rule." Chit Sang said
"Do it!" the bully guard said
"Make me." Chit Sang said
The bully guard walks away, but as he is leaving, he whips fire at Chit Sang. Chit Sang blocks it, and redirects it back at him. The bully guard breaks the blast with a kick.
"Tsk, tsk. Firebending is prohibited. You're going in the cooler." (Pointing at Willow.) "You! Help me take him in." the bully guard said
(Whispers to Gus and Lilith.) "Meet back here in an hour." Willow whispered (Runs up to Chit Sang and the guard.)
Back inside, Chit Sang is led to a cooler.
"The warden will deal with you soon." (Willow closes the doors.) "Can you believe this guy?" the bully guard asked
(Playing along.) "Prisoners! Am I right?" Willow asked
"Ugh. Tell me about it." the bully guard said
Meal time for the guards. Gus and LIlith are getting food, Lilith was noticeably the only guard wearing a helmet.
"Hey, newbie! I know it's the rule to have your helmet on at all times, but this is the lounge. Relax." the male guard said
"But what if there's an incident? If I'm not prepared, someone could strike me on the head." Lilith said
The guards laugh.
"Give it a week, she'll loosen up." the female guard said
"Can the newbies ask you veterans a few questions about the prison?" Gus asked
(Bluntly.) "No, you can't date the female guards." the female guard said
"Trust me, you don't want to." the male guard said (The female guard throws a cup at him, which causes the guard sitting behind him to laugh.)
"No, that's not it. The Boiling Rock, it holds the Fire Nation's most dangerous criminals, right?" (The other guards nod.) "So what about war prisoners?" Lilith asked
In the yard, the warden arrives on the gondolas. Meanwhile, Willow and the bully guard continue to stand guard by the cooler. Willow is looking inside at Chit Sang who is shivering.
"It sure looks cold in there." Willow said
"That's why we call it the cooler. He won't be firebending there." (Notices someone coming, lowers his mask.) "It's the warden!" (He and Willow stand to attention.) "Look alive!" the bully guard said in panic
(Opens the cooler.) "So Chit Sang, I hear you used firebending to try to escape. You should know better." the Warden said
"I wasn't trying to escape." Chit Sang said
"He's lying! I saw it with my own eyes." the bully guard said )He is pushed aside by one of the warden's bodyguards.)
"No one has ever, ever escaped from here. I'd sooner jump in the Boiling Lake myself than let that record fall. Don't forget it. Now go back to your shivering." the Warden said
Back in the yard. Gus and Lilith approach Willow, but don't know it is her.
"Hey there, fellow guard, how goes it?" Lilith asked
(Lifts up her helmet's visor.) "Gus? Lilith?" Willow asked
"Shhh! Listen, I asked around the lounge. There are no Water Tribe prisoners." (Lifts up her visor.) "I'm afraid Gus' father isn't here." Lilith said
"What? Are you sure, did you double-check?" Willow asked
"Yeah, we're sure." Lilith said
"No. No!" Gus shouted (Bangs his fists against the wall in frustration as Willow pulled him back.)
"I'm really sorry, Gus." Willow said
"So we came all this way for nothing? I failed ... again." Gus said
"Ah," (Holds her chin in thought.) "What would Kaldo say?" (Cut to a frog-view as she looks up at the sky.) "Sometimes, clouds have two sides," (Walks over to the railing.) "a dark and light, and a silver lining in between. It's like a silver sandwich!" (Close-up of a disinterested Gus and Willow, voice-over.) "So ... when life seems hard …" (Gus and Willow glances to the side.) "take a bite out of the silver sandwich!" Lilith said
Gus' eyes widen when he notices something, close-up of his cheerful expression as he gets up. Cut to a frontal shot of Lilith while Gus runs up to grab the railing next to her, excitedly looking down to the yard below.
"Maybe we haven't failed after all!" Gus said (causes Willow to see where he's looking and becomes happy as well.)
"That's the spirit!" (Folds her arms.) "I can't believe that worked." (Looks down.) "I didn't even know what I was saying." Lilith said
"No, what you said made no sense at all. But look who Gus found…" (As she points, the camera shifts to an overhead view of the yard, before rapidly zooming in on a dejected-looking Zora.) "It's Zora!" Willow said
Zora, sitting in the prison yard in prison garb, looks up at hearing the continuous ringing of a bell.
(Voice-over.) "Prisoners," (Zora gets up.) "back in your cells!" a guard said
Cut to a view of the prison yard from ground level as the prisoners start to walk back inside. Cut to a frontal shot of Gus, Willow and Lilith. Gus' eyes are now rapidly blinking pink hearts, while Willow and Lilith gives him a conspicuous look. Gus does not pay attention and lowers the visor of his helmet with a smile before dashing out of the scene with a surprised Willow and Lilith quicking turning their heads and looking after him. Cut to the prisoners' housing area. Camera slowly pans to show a guard mopping the floor and another one doing his rounds. Cut to Zora lying on her bed and staring at the ceiling in sadness. The door to her cell opens and closes, illuminating her face as her eyes turn to the door. Cut to a further off side-shot of Gus and Willow entering Zora's cell.
(Sits up, aggressively.) "What is it? Did I do something wrong?" Zora asked
(Crosses arms.) "You mean you don't recognize me?" Gus asked
(Close-up. She averts her eyes, bitterly.) "You people all look the same to me." Zora said
(Frontal shot, smugly.) "Oh? Then maybe you'll recognize this." Willow said
Willow pursues to move Gus' head forward puckering his lips and attempts smooching sounds as she makes Gus lean in to kiss Zora. His lips are suddenly grasped by a hand. The camera switches to the side-shot as Zora violently shoves him and Willow against the door. Frontal shot of Gus and Willow as they make contact with the door, their helmets flinging off in the process. They look bewildered to Zora. Cut to a close-up of Zora, her left arm still stretched out in the move she used to push them away. Her angry expression instantly brightens.
"Gus! Willow!" (Runs up to them, cut to a side-view.) "It's you!" Zora said
Zora rushes to pull Gus and Willow into an embrace. Still bewildered, they do not immediately return the gesture. Cut to a frontal shot of Gus and Willow, Zora resting her head on Gus' shoulder, and he mellows into the embrace, returning it in all honestly while closing his eyes. Cut to a close-up side-shot of Zora, who is tearing up out of joy.
(The three stand up, not releasing each other.) "The other Kyoshi Warriors, are they here?" Willow asked
"No. I don't know where they are. They locked me in here because I'm the leader." Zora said
(Places his right hand on her left cheek.) "Well, you won't be here for long. We're busting you out." Gus said
(Frontal shot.) "I'm so glad" (Places her hand over Gus' on her face and closes her eyes.) "to see you Gus." (Opens them again.) "I knew you'd come." Zora said
Cut to a side-shot of the now-reunited couple as they gaze lovingly at each other. They release hands, placing them on the other's arms, and lean in to kiss, Zora throws her arms around Gus' neck. Cut to a close-up frontal shot of Lilith standing guard outside the cell. She suddenly looks to his right. Cut to a further off shot, showing the entire hallway, revealing that the sound that drew Lilith's attention was a guard ascending nearby stairs. She taps on the cell door to get Gus, Willow and Zora's attention. Cut to inside the cell where the couple stops kissing, Willow casting a suspicious look to the door. Cut back to outside the cell, where the female guard approaches Lilith, who is standing in front of the cell door, her arms crossed behind her back. She turns to her as she pulls up next to her.
"Excuse me." (Cut to a shot from behind Lilith.) "I need to get into that cell." the female guard said
(Shot from over the guard's shoulder.) "No, you can't go in there!" (Looks at the prison cell, unsure.) "The lights are out." (Points at the door.) "The prisoner could sneak up on you." Lilith said
(Close-up. Cut to a side-shot, annoyed.) "Step aside, fool." (She raises her left arm to push Lilith out of the way, though before she can touch her, she grabs hold of the arm and turns her around, slamming her face first against the door.) "Hey, hey, what are you doing?" the female guard asked
She turns to retaliate against Lilith's action. Cut to inside the cell, where Lilith's head can be seen through the looking hole as she is slammed against the door. The camera pans down to show Gus, Willow and Zora pushed against the door, looking up in worry. Gus' expression turns serious as he lowers his gaze and puts on his helmet as Willow did the same. Cut to a close-up shot of the guard's right calf as Lilith plants her own leg behind it. Switch to a further off shot. Lilith grabs a hold of the woman's right arm and forces her to bend backward, thus averting her sight from the door that slides open. Gus and Willow quickly exit the cell and shuffles away, their backs pressed against the wall. The female guard manages to push Lilith's face up with her left arm, regaining a more leveled pose herself. Cut to a close-up side-shot of her from underneath Lilith's arms as she looks to her right.
(Instantly cut to a frontal shot of Gus and Willow, who freezes over.) "Guards, help!" (They turn to look at the struggle.) "I think she's an impostor!" (Frontal shot of Gus and Willow, looking unsure.) "Arrest her!" the female guard shouted
Cut to a view of the gondola making its way to the prison. Cut back to inside the prison as the struggle continues.
"Get her off me and arrest her!" the female guard shouted
(Grabs Lilith and throws her down on the floor.) "You're under arrest!" (Whispering.) "Don't worry, I'll figure it out." Willow said
Gus and Willow lead Lilith away, followed by the female guard. Later, Lilith, now in prison garb, is in an isolated room. The door opens, revealing the warden.
"Well, well, well. I never thought I'd find you in here," (Smiles evilly and walks into the cell.) "Admiral Lilith, or should I say, Princess Lilith?" the Warden said
(Shocked.) "How did you know who I am?" Lilith asked
"How could I not? You broke my niece's heart." the Warden said
(Even more shocked.) "You're Lai's uncle? I never meant to hurt her." Lilith said
"Quiet! You're my special prisoner now. And you'd best behave. If these criminals found out who you are, the traitor princess who let her nation down, why they'd tear you to shreds." the Warden said
(Folds her arms.) "So what's in it for you? Why don't you just tell my father to come collect a reward?" Lilith asked
"Oh, in due time, believe me, I intend to collect." the Warden said (Walks away and shuts the door.)
Outside the cells, Gus and Willow come down and see Lilith and Zora mopping floors.
"Oh, good, you guys have met." Willow said
"Actually, we met a long time ago." Zora said
"We did?" Lilith asked
(Somewhat angrily.) "Yeah, you kind of burned down my village." Zora said
(Stops mopping for a second.) "Oh, sorry about that. Nice to see you again." Lilith said
Lilith and Zora stop mopping and hide from the other guards beside a staircase.
"So, listen, I think we have an escape plan. we checked out the coolers again, and the point of them is to keep firebenders contained, right?" Gus asked
"Yeah …" Lilith said
"So, they're completely insulated and sealed to keep the cold in. Well, to keep the cold in, it also has to keep the heat out, right?" Willow asked
"Just get to the point, guys." Zora said
"It's a perfect boat for getting through the boiling water." Willow said
(Exchanges a worried glance with Zora.) "The cooler as a boat? Are you sure?" Lilith asked
"I'm telling you, it'll work." (Flashes back to Gus and Willow walking around the island, voice-over.) "We walked around the perimeter. There's a blind spot between two guard towers. It's the perfect launching point." (Willow puts a miniature boat in the water and watches it float away.) "I already tested it out. We'll roll the cooler into the water and just float with the current. It'll take us straight across. As long as we don't make a sound, no one will notice." (Fade back to Willow talking to Gus, Lilith and Zora.) "And bing-bang-boom, we're home free." Willow said
"But how are you going to get the cooler out?" Zora asked
(From the staircase.) "Yeah, how are you going to get the cooler out?" Chit Sang asked (Jumps down.)
(Covering up.) "What? We didn't ... w-we didn't say that." Zora said
"Yeah, you heard wrong." Gus said
"I heard you hatching an escape plan, and I want in." Chit Sang said
"There's nothing to get in on." Lilith said
"Yeah, the only thing we're hatching is ... an egg?" Willow asked
Lilith lowers her head as Gus and Zora cover their eyes while the three sigh in annoyance. Cut back to Chit Sang.
(Unconvinced.) "Okay, well, you let me come with you or the warden" (Camera pans from a serious-looking Lilith to Zora.) "hears about this egg, too." Chit Sang said
(To Gus.) "I guess we have no choice." Zora said
"Okay, you're in." (Handing Lilith a wrench.) "Now first we need someone to unbolt the cooler, from the inside." Willow said
"Oh, I can get you inside." Chit Sang said
Cut to a view of the stairs as two guards look down at the prison area. Chit Sang walks out from behind the stairs and stands in a spot. Lilith pretends to be mopping and bumps into Chit Sang.
"Hey! What are you, stupid? Watch where you're going!" Chit Sang shouted (Shoves Lilith.)
"Hey, you watch who you're shoving!" Lilith shouted (She pushes Chit Sang.)
"I think you mean whom I'm shoving!" Chit Sang shouted
The two scuffle as the prisoners cheer them on. They break apart and Lilith goes for a punch. Chit Sang throws Lilith onto the floor.
(Approaching. Yelling.) "We need backup over here!" Willow yelled
Lilith dodges Chit Sang as he tries to elbow her. Lilith blasts fire at Chit Sang.
"No firebending!" (Pointing.) "Into the cooler!" the male guard said
Lilith is taken down and escorted away by two guards. Gus and Willow look at Zora, who is mopping and looks back, as they walk off. Later, Gus and Willow open the cooler.
"We can take you back to your cell if you've learned your lesson." Willow said
(Raises her head slightly and releases a small breath of fire to warm herself up.) "Yes, I have ... completely." Lilith said (Reveals all the removed bolts and screws, which makes Gus and Willow smile.)
(Lifts his visor, whispering.) "We got Zora and Chit Sang out of their cells a few minutes ago. They'll be waiting for us at the shore." Gus said
"Someone's coming!" Lilith said (Takes Gus and Willow into the cooler and closes the door.)
"Yeah, new arrivals are coming in at dawn." a male guard said
"Anybody interesting?" a female guard asked
"Nah, just the usual. Some robbers, a couple traitors, some war prisoners," (Gus and Willow look at Lilith with shock and worry.) "though I did hear there might be a pirate." the male guard said
"No fooling!" the female guard said
"War prisoners. It could be your father." Lilith said
"I know." Gus said
"Well, what should we do? Are we going ahead with the plan or are we waiting another night?" Willow asked
"I don't know! Is it right for me to risk Zora's freedom, all of our freedom on the slim chance that my dad is gonna show up?" Gus asked
"It's your call, Gus." Lilith said
Cut to outside the prison, night time. Zora and Chit Sang are waiting for Gus, Willow and Lilith until they hear them above, rolling the, now detached, cooler down the hill. Zora and Chit Sang move to help.
"Took you guys long enough." (Cut briefly to two other prisoners, a male sitting on a rock, and a female waving.) "This here's my girl and my best buddy, they're coming too." Chit Sang said
"Fine. Everybody in the cooler. Let's go." Willow said (They move the cooler into the water. Cut to Willow lifting a rock hiding her and Gus' outfits.)
"Are you sure you wanna go? You're the one who said you wanted to redeem yourself. Redeem your honor. Rescuing your dad is your chance." Lilith said
(Approaching.) "Your dad?" Zora asked
(Turns to Lilith.) "If we had just cut our losses at the invasion, maybe we wouldn't be in this mess. Maybe sometimes it's just better to call it quits before you fail." Gus said
"No, it's not. Look Gus, you're going to fail a lot before things work out." Lilith said
(Standing.) "That supposed to make me feel better?" Gus asked
(Gus moves away.) "Even though you'll probably fail over and over and over again …" Lilith started
"Seriously, not helping." Willow said
(Grabs Gus' shoulder.) "You have to try every time. You can't quit because you're afraid you might fail." Lilith said
(Standing by the cooler boat.) "Hey, if you two are done cuddling, can we get a move on?" Chit Sang asked
"No. I'm staying. You guys go." (To Zora.) "You've been here long enough." Gus said
"I'm not leaving without you, Gus." Zora said
"I'm staying, too." Lilith said
"Don't leave me out of it." Willow said
"Not me, I'm out. Let's roll, baby." Chit Sang said (Pushes the cooler into the lake and jumps in.)
"We gave up our only chance of escaping. I hope we haven't just made a huge mistake." Gus said
As morning arrives, the cooler holding Chit Sang, his buddy, and his girlfriend is still within the perimeter of the prison. The current escapees are sweating as the cooler slowly floats with the current.
"Aah, this current is so slow. I can use this to paddle." Chit Sang said (Rips off a piece of the cooler. When he puts the piece of metal in the water, the steaming water splashes onto his hand, causing him to scream loudly.)
A watchman catches notice. Two watchmen hit an alarm bell as the warden approaches.
"Guards! Secure the perimeter and lock down the prisoners! Now!" the Warden commanded
Many guards appear to lock down the prisoners as we see one guard use a fire whip to control the prisoners. Cut to the outside of the prison walls as the camera pans down to Gus, Willow, Zora and Lilith.
"The plan failed! They're caught!" Willow said
Cut back to the warden near a launcher.
"Get the fugitives and throw them in the cooler!" the Warden commanded
(The guard in charge of the steering wheel turns toward the warden.) "Uh ... they are in a cooler, sir." another male guard said
"One that's bolted down and not floating in the water! This is a lockdown! We have new prisoners arriving! Everything must be completely secure!" the Warden shouted
The male guard fires a large ballista bolt, catching hold of the cooler, and drags it back toward the prison.
"The gondola is moving." (Cut to a side-view of the gondola approaching the prison. Cut to a view of the prison yard as the gondola nears its stop. Cut to Gus and Zora now in the yard.) "This is it." (Cut to the gondola arriving. Cut to Gus, Willow, Zora and Lilith in the yard.) "If my dad's not there, we've risked everything for nothing." Gus said
"We had to." Zora said (Holds Gus' hand.)
"Come on, come on …" Gus pleaded
Cut to a large man with a tattoo and nose ring coming off the gondola first.
"Is that him?" Lilith asked (Cut to Gus.)
"His dad doesn't have a nose ring." (Cut briefly to the gondola as several men step off.) "Where is he?" (Cut to the gondola briefly as we see one more prisoner exit. Hakoda does not appear.) "That's it? That can't be it." Willow said
(Comforting.) "I'm sorry, Gus." Zora said
"Oh, no." Gus said
"Hey, you! Get off the gondola!" the male guard shouted
Cut to the gondola as Hakoda steps out.
(Cut to Gus, Shocked.) "Dad …" Gus said
Fade to the words "TO BE CONTINUED ..." followed by the credits.
