Title: Another Chance at Love
Chapter 17
(At Sabrina's place, Sabrina is patiently waiting for Patrick to arrive. While she waited, her and Elizabeth engaged in small chat. A few short minutes later, there is a knock at the front door. After answering, Sabrina smiles at seeing Patrick)
Sabrina: "You look very nice."
(Patrick's mouth opens and his eyes widen upon seeing Sabrina. Sabrina can't help but giggle while Elizabeth walks to the door and notices Patrick in a daze)
Liz: "Patrick?" (sings) "Patrick."
(Patrick immediately shakes his head and clears his throat before speaking)
Patrick: "Sorry." (chuckles nervously) "You just…You look beautiful."
Sabrina: (nods & smiles) "Thank you."
Patrick: (slightly confused) "W-What happened to your glasses?"
Sabrina: "I have contacts. I've been meaning to ditch the glasses for the contacts." (smiles) "Tonight gave me an excuse or reason."
Patrick: (nods) "Gotcha. I hope you know that you look beautiful with or without the glasses."
Sabrina: "Thank you. That's what Elizabeth said, too."
Patrick: "She's right. Sorry, I'm a little late."
Sabrina: "That's okay." (grins) "I knew you'd come."
Patrick: "Are you ready to go?"
Sabrina: (nods) "Yep. Just let me get my shawl and then I'm good to go."
(Once she retrieves it, the duo smiles at each other and walk off. Elizabeth turns off the lights and locks the door behind her and heads home. Sabrina wonders where they're going, but Patrick chuckles and says it's a surprise. She couldn't help but grow curious. A small smile spreads across her face when Patrick parks in the Metro Court parking lot. As he turns off the engine, he grins at his lady)
Patrick: "I hope you like dancing."
Sabrina: (giggles) "With you, how could I not?"
(He gets out of the car and walks to her side, opening the door and offering his hand to help her out, which she takes. After auto locking his car, they walk to the front entrance and then take the elevator until they reach their destination. They hold hands until he pulls out her chair. After helping her in her seat, he sits down. They are in the middle of the room and only have eyes for each other)
(A female waiter comes to their table and gives them their menus)
Waiter: (smiles) "Hi. I'm Gracie and I'll be your waiter for the evening. How are we doing tonight?"
Patrick: "Good."
Sabrina: "Very well. Thank you."
Waiter: "What can I start you off with for beverages?"
Patrick: "A coke, please."
Sabrina: "An iced tea with lemon. Thank you."
Waiter: "Sounds good. I'll get you your drinks and then give you a few minutes to look over the menu."
(The waiter leaves momentarily to get their refreshments. A few minutes later, she returns with their drinks. She asks them if they need more time to look at the menu. They both say no and place their orders)
Patrick: "I'll get the bacon cheeseburger with onion rings."
Sabrina: "I'll have the chicken fettuccine alfredo."
Waitress: (nods) "Very good choices. I'll put your order through and bring it to you when they're done."
Patrick: "Sounds good."
(The waitress leaves, allowing the lovebirds time alone)
Patrick: (smiles) "Good food choice. I make it for Emma sometimes."
Sabrina: (giggles) "You also can't go wrong with bacon cheeseburgers. Adding bacon gives it more flavor."
Patrick: "Emma's not crazy about bacon cheeseburgers, so I just make her regular cheeseburgers."
Sabrina: "Everyone has their own tastes in what they eat. I wasn't a picky eater growing up, but my sister was."
Patrick: "You don't talk about your sister much"
Sabrina: (shrugs) "Not much to say. We never really got along. I guess you could say she was daddy's favorite and I was mother's favorite."
Patrick: (tilts his head) "What was her name?"
Sabrina: "Britt. When she was old enough to do so, she got emancipated and changed her last name. She never liked Santiago, which saddened mother." (scoffs) "No matter what she did or said, she could never do wrong in daddy's eyes."
Patrick: "She doesn't sound very nice. If I ever meet her, I'll tell her so. Where is she now, out of curiosity?"
Sabrina: "I don't know. I know I read in the paper years ago that she became a doctor." (raises her eyebrows) "I'm sure that made dad proud. Mom was, too, of course."
Patrick: "Did Britt become a doctor because your mom was a nurse?"
Sabrina: (chuckles sarcastically) "Nope. She claimed in the newspaper that she wanted to help others get better. Mom couldn't help but notice she had attitude around others. Needless to say, mom wasn't impressed."
Patrick: (snorts) "I wouldn't have been, either. I take it she's older than you?"
Sabrina: (nods) "Yes. About five years older."
(The waitress brings them their food and tells them to enjoy before walking away. They speak casually as they enjoy their dish. When finished, they face each other)
Patrick: (smiles) "How was your food, milady?"
Sabrina: (giggles) "Very good, kind sir."
(Patrick smiles as he gets up from his chair and walks to Sabrina's. He holds out his hand to her)
Patrick: "May I have this dance, beautiful?"
Sabrina: (smiles & nods) "Yes, you can."
(She rests her hand in his and they walk to the dance floor. She is a bit nervous as she didn't remember the last time she danced with anyone. Patrick could tell her nerves were getting the better of her. He uses his spare hand to gently lift her chin so they're face to face)
Patrick: "I hope you know that I'd never judge you on the way you dance. Just dance how you feel."
Sabrina: (chuckles nervously) "I was afraid maybe you'd laugh because I don't remember the last time I danced."
Patrick: "Look into my eyes, Sabrina, and please believe me."
(Sabrina convinces herself to look at her date and stares into his eyes)
Patrick: "You're perfect just the way you are. All I'd ever expect from you is your best. Nothing more. I have never lied to you and I don't intend to start now. I feel like I've known you for years." (smiles) "There's not one thing I'd change about you."
(His caring words and intense eyes caused her to realize he truly cared for her. In all her life she's never really had that. It made her truly happy to feel that connection with Patrick)
(She wasn't completely sure where to put her hands…on his shoulders or around his neck. Patrick answered her question by resting her hands around his neck. He rests his hands around her petite frame. They swayed to the music. Sabrina couldn't help but fall in love with the song choice that was playing…A Thousand Years by Christina Perri)
(Sabrina and Patrick continued to get lost in the other's eyes. They occasionally looked at the others lips. Patrick lost count of how many times he wanted to touch his lips with hers. He didn't know if he was going too fast as it was only their first date. As they continued to dance, his lips parted slightly. He leans forward to brush his lips against Sabrina's forehead. She closes her eyes to feel his warm lips against her skin. She sighs softly as she privately wished he was kissing her lips and not her forehead. She wasn't sure if it was too soon, so she squished those thoughts away)
(They look into the others eyes again before he speaks)
Patrick: "Have I told you yet that you look absolutely breathtaking?"
Sabrina: (smiles) "I don't mind hearing it again. You look handsome yourself."
(She rests her head on his shoulder and closes her eyes as she felt safe and secure in his arms. He closes his eyes as he rests his head against hers. He sighs softly as he felt he could stay in this moment forever. After a few more slow dances, they hold hands while going back to their seats)
(Patrick pays the bill that was on the table. They engage in small talk before they realize it's getting late. Patrick knows it's too late to say goodnight to Emma. After arriving at Sabrina's front door, they smile tenderly at the other)
Patrick: "I had a great time tonight."
Sabrina: (chuckles) "I did, too. This was definitely the highlight of my week."
(He takes her hands in his and tilts his head smiling)
Patrick: "I know this may be a bit premature to ask, but…" (chuckles nervously) "…I loved our date…so much that…I can't wait until our next one…if you're willing."
(Sabrina laughs happily as she speaks)
Sabrina: "I loved our date, too. Nothing would please me more than planning our second date…when the time comes."
(They both beam with enthusiasm. They were glad that they were on the same page. He wanted the night to end with a kiss so badly, but he decided to wait until their next date just to be on the safe side. They embrace the other before looking into the others eyes. He smiles sweetly at her before leaning forward and touching her sweet creamy cheek with his lips. Afterwards, he whispers good night and she does the same. He walks away with a smile on his face. After she gets inside her apartment, she shuts the door, then leans against it with a bright smile on her face)
Sabrina: "I don't think it's possible to be any happier than I am right now. I owe it all to you, Patrick Drake. Thank you for an incredible night."
