AN: Just a few little things here:
Tony and Jeannie WILL have some time to themselves and he will explain what happened.
I think he would be calm about the baby at this point, because he is just so happy to be back. Reality will set in.
Tony and Roger have a bit of time alone as well, and Roger gets to continue being the voice of reason.
Chapter 9
How he had managed to get himself into a seated position before she'd thrown herself into his arms, he didn't know.
But he was grateful that he was able to move. Have the chance to have her in his arms. After where he'd been, the life he'd seen, he would stay like this forever if they could.
"It's alright, don't cry," He soothed, pulling her closer.
She murmured something into his neck, and pressed her body against his.
Ten minutes ago she was sure he did not wish to wake. That she would never look into his gorgeous green eyes again. Never hear his voice. Feel his touch.
She was envisioning a pregnancy without him. A gorgeous boy with his eyes and his smile, who he would never know.
And he was awake and she was in his arms.
It was all going to be alright.
Or was it? He still didn't know about the baby.
She sat back slowly, eyes fluttering open, as she blinked back tears.
"You don't have to cry," Tony told her softly, hands moving to cup her face. "I'm right here. I'm alright. It's all over."
He kissed her then. Slow. Soft. Lips taking their time to reacquaint with hers.
Roger looked away, not wanting to intrude. He stood off to their left, near the door, Dr. Bellows and Tony's doctor near by.
He wondered if they should leave, let them have time alone or if they should stay and ensure that Tony was as alright as he seemed.
"I'm sorry I worried you," Tony breathed, lips still against hers. If they didn't have an audience, he wouldn't hesitate to continue showing her how much he missed her.
"We thought you did not wish to wake. That you would be angry about…" She stopped suddenly, words refusing to come.
There was still a part of her that was not convinced he would be happy with her news.
"About the baby?" He asked through a warm smile.
"You know?" She pushed out through a gasp.
He nodded and let his hand slid from her cheek, moving it to rest just against the soft material of her dress. Just above her hipbone, fingers touching lightly at the spot their child grew.
"And you are not angry?" She asked nervously, eyes tipped down as she looked at his hand.
"Angry? I'm already picturing her. She'll have your eyes and your smile. I can't wait to meet her."
She sniffed back tears and smiled. "I think it will be a boy," She covered his hand with hers. "We did not plan this."
He raised a curious eyebrow and nodded. "Darling, nothing about life has been a part of my plan since the day we met. It's better than anything I could have ever planned."
They would worry about the details later.
Medical care. Doctors. Genie's. Djinn's.
It would all wait. It could wait.
He understood now, that his unplanned life was the only one that made sense.
He had seen it.
Experienced his planned life.
And all he wanted was the life that had chosen him, the one fated from the moment he first spotted her bottle.
She threw herself into his arms again, overwhelmed by the events of the day.
As long as he was with her, everything else would work itself out.
His doctor cleared his throat. "I'm sorry to interrupt, and congratulations," He offered through a smile, "but we really need to examine you, Major Nelson."
Tony nodded and Jeannie reluctantly sat back, her attention still focused on him. "I'm not going anywhere," He reassured confidently.
"I only need a few minutes, Mrs. Nelson and then he's all yours."
He was at Tony's bedside now, ready to begin his exam.
Jeannie nodded, leaning in to kiss Tony one more time. She needed to be sure he was real. That this happening.
That everything was going to be alright.
"Amanda should be here any minute," Dr. Bellows told Jeannie as she joined them near the door. "She has been gathering advice on how to help with your morning sickness."
Jeannie offered him a grateful smile.
"Let's go back to the cafeteria and get you some more of those terrible crackers and some water. You haven't kept anything down since you got here," Roger mused shaking his head.
"They are terrible crackers," Jeannie laughed, shaking her head. "But you are a wonderful Uncle." She leaned over to kiss his cheek.
Tony watched Roger and Dr. Bellows lead Jeannie out. It was clear she had been well looked after while he was unconscious.
Roger had easily slid into his role as Uncle, and had clearly been at Jeannie's side from the moment she had returned from Baghdad.
Uncle Roger was the least they could do to thank him for being their friend. Their secret keeper. Their protector.
He watched the door closed behind Dr. Bellows, and a part of him wanted to scream in fear.
The closer the Bellows got to him, to Jeannie, to the baby, the harder it would be to keep their secrets.
Though, they were proving to be good friends, who genuinely seemed to care about them and wanted to be in their lives.
"Major Nelson, the sooner I finish, the sooner your wife can come back in," His doctor said, trying to focus his attention back to the exam he was trying to conduct. "You'll have so much to discuss with a baby on the way."
More than he would ever know.
Tony smiled to himself, tipping his head to the right as his doctor asked.
He couldn't wait to have those discussions.
