Time, Space, Reality... These are among the building blocks that make up the universes of Multiverse; a realm of alternate universes with infinite possibilities and differences. I am Uatu the Watcher; it is my eternal duty to watch over these disparate universes never to intervene...
I couldn't help but intervene to help things improve at a much faster rate... A world filled of charlatans being hailed as heroes... Spider-Man acting as a champion as he does in most universes; helped the true heroes defeat the false ones... The age of the Stark sponsored heroes ended and the age of the Avenger began...
However that wasn't the ending of the threats of this universe and here is another tale of what happened afterwards. But to understand it; let's turn back the clock in the life Gwen Stacy.
Peter Parker's girlfriend whose death helped start his true story and it turned out that she had a secret double life as Nighthawk's partner Nightbird; guilty about the secrets she was keeping and was ready to reveal it all to him before her tragic death.
What a life she had led and to someone she considered her best friend...
Years ago at Standard High the rival school of Midtown High; walking down the halls was the blonde haired girl in her senior year wearing her back jumper, green jacket and purple skirt. She was Gwen Stacy and smirked at the eyes that were on her and soon catching up to her were her best friends brown haired boy Harry Lyman and bald headed large obtuse boy Kenny 'Kong' McFarlane.
"The Beauty Queen at Standard High; everyone either wants to be you or be with you..." Harry told Gwen who looked amused by it all.
"Unless one of them is somehow secretly Nighthawk; I doubt any of them will be for me..." Gwen then replied as she got to her locker and saw the admirer notes stuffed inside of it.
"You never know... He could be the gym coach here..." Kenny joked and they snickered at that. "But right now you are too busy studying so that you can be like your Mum; working at that place where they send the psychos that Nighthawk beats up..." Kenny said as Gwen suddenly glared at her much bigger friend.
"Labels like that are a reason why patients of mental health are looked down upon and misunderstood; I want to be like my Mum and helping them on their level." Gwen scolded Kenny as she had got her books and slammed her locker door open.
"Sorry Gwen..." Kenny said apologetically as they started walking together again. "But if you did have time for dating... How about someone like Harry?" Kenny suggested as Harry jumped and Gwen looked at him as if he was joking.
"Very funny Kenny... Me the daughter of a psychiatrist and a cop and Harry's mum is the Mayor working on funding environmental causes as well as giving Ravencroft the revamp it needs. Undoing the damage that Fennhoff did to the place." Gwen laughed and Harry joined in but as Gwen said goodbye to go to her next class Harry had his head down.
"Don't give up Harry... She will one day see that you are the guy for her..." Kenny assured him.
It was late in the afternoon as Gwen, Harry and Kenny were out in the streets talking; "Can you believe that... Spider-Man with only a couple of years experience... He took down Kraven the Hunter last night... He's the guy that broke Nighthawk's back..." Kenny was telling them.
"Easier for the webhead as he has powers while Nighthawk would return and get the best of him with just his training and physical abilities..." Gwen said as they came across a police line with officers having them and the other civilians standing back.
They looked over and were in awe as they spotted Nighthawk himself taking on one of his enemies Doctor Olivia Octavius a messy brown haired woman with green tinted goggles, a green and darker green bodysuit and 4 long inflatable appendages. She was using them to throw cars about and attack Nighthawk. She was nicknamed Doctor Octopus or Doc Ock.
"You should just quit and serve your time Doctor Octavius... You could have a respectable scientific career again afterwards..." Nighthawk told her.
"My soft material can't be pierced by your Hawkarangs... Might as well give ups Nighthawk... Plus I think we have known eachother long enough that you can just call me 'Liv'..." Octavius then told him as Gwen looked on in awe but Octavius was making her escape. She caused debris to be falling and there was a kid in the way; then a blonde haired police Captain jumped to get him out of the way.
"Dad..." Gwen questioned as she recognised the Captain as the kid was pushed out of the way but the debris fell onto him...
Harry and Kenny were comforting the crying Gwen as they were at her dad's funeral; she and her family being devastated.
Much later during their time as college students; they were at the Coffee Bean; "So this Parker guy... You have been complaining about him being a flake who steals your top spot and yet... You not only asked him out but you two have hit it off?" Harry asked in disbelief and with jealousy.
"What can I say... The Parker guy surprised me..." Peter then told them as they took this in.
Years later Harry had come home to the penthouse where he and his mother New York Mayor Emily Lyman stayed. On the TV was DBC news; "Thanks Kenny... Will see you later..." Harry then said as he was on a phone call with Kenny asking for advice about if he should just get his feelings towards Gwen off his chest to her while understanding that she had a steady boyfriend. "So Ms Mayor... What's on the news tonight..." Harry asked as Emily looked amused as Harry had taken an internship job at the mayor's office; some staf member liked to mumble to themselves about dealing with the mayor's brat.
Then there was a breaking news as reporter Betty Brant was on the scene outside of Brooklyn Bridge where there was the PDNY there with onlookers around. "I am here at the Brooklyn Bridge where the most incredible story happened... The Green Goblin; super powered scourge of the New York crime world and nemesis of the nocturnal vigilante Nighthawk... Is dead... Killed in a battle against the masked super powered crime fighter known as Spider-Man... The Goblin's body has been identified as that of Oscorp founder, owner and CEO Norman Osborn..." Betty sai da s a picture of Norman came up much to Emily's shock as she covered her mouth.
"Man... First he steals Nighthawk's foes and now he kills his nemesis... That's hardcore..." laughed Harry as Emily nervously looked at him.
"While New York can rest easy that the terror of the Green Goblin is over... However in more tragic news; a civilian was caught in the crossfire and the story goes that she was kidnapped by the Goblin and tossed over the bridge... Spider-Man tried to catch her but his web snapped her spine it seemed in the impact... The young woman has been identified as..." Betty said as a picture of Gwen was brought up and Harry looked on in shock and disbelief.
In denial he ran to his room and then began calling Gwen on his phone; "Come on Gwen... Pick up please..." Harry pleaded with tears in his eyes as he kept on trying to call her.
The depressing tone of Gwen's funeral as Harry and Kenny was there; "First losing Gwen's dad was bad enough but this..." Kenny whispered looking at Gwen's mother and his younger brothers. Harry was looking down at anger and then noticed Peter with his Aunt May.
"He thinks that Gwen meant something to him... He didn't know how good he had it..." Harry muttered shaking his head and looked towards Gwen's grave. "Spider-Man did this... He got her caught in his fight with the Goblin and got her killed... If he had any sense then he would never show his face again..." Harry muttered.
Weeks after the fall of the Squadron Supreme and the rise of the Avengers; Harry was beat up as he was in a holding cell with several large brutes of guys. "I could have taken you all if the cops didn't come busting in..." Harry then told them as an officer told Harry that he was free to go as his bail was paid. Harry exited and met with his furious mother and her driver.
In the limo ride; "Wasting away at an underground fighting circuit... How many times have I been bailing you out for physical incidents like this... You know Harry; I despise the rich and powerful that allows their privileged spoiled brats get away with things thanks to money and connections... But here I am bailing you out as you insist on destroying your own life... I kind of hate myself as I have something in common with Congressman Thompson... His brute of a son was rumored to get away with being a thug and a bully during his high school days thanks to his rich and powerful dad and his spot on the football team... Plus the smug look on his face and now I am doing what he did... Bailing you out of the consequences of your actions..." Emily then told him.
"I was training myself... To take on Spider-Man and kill him... Avenge Gwen..." Harry then said as Emily shook hier head as she touched her nose.
"I have told you this plenty of times Harry but you have got to stop blaming him for Gwen's death... Helen understands that it was the fault of that monster..." Emily then told him.
"Spider-Man was the one that was reckless and showed off... I bet he let the Goblin get her so he could look good saving her! You say that Gwen's mum is your friend but you are the Mayor and you don't do anything to make Spider-Man see consequences for what he did and now the superhero community is being torn apart with supposed heroes being made to face consequences... But no Spider-Man escapes it all and gets to continue being hailed as a hero as he keeps Power Princess as the eye candy on his arms! You should be calling him to answer for what he had done under Stark and before but you don't and you won't even do the bare minimum to avenge the death of your friend's daughter!" Harry yelled as Emily looked like she lost her patience.
"Harry; that's enough..." Emily shouted at him but Harry shook his head.
"I don't need to listen to you... I'm an adult..." Harry snapped as Emily looked at him.
"You know what; you are right and it's time that you act like one... Consider yourself fired from your job at my office and you can start moving your stuff out of the penthouse as soon as we get back... You can find yourself a new job and don't expect to find me to bail you out next time... I am going to show you tough love and let the nepotism end..." Emily then said as Harry was shocked.
They got to the penthouse and Harry was angrily getting his stuff in boxes; He ended up sneaking down and shook his head as he saw his mother talking with Helen Stacy the mother of Gwen. "I am sorry for Harry's trouble... If only he took up my offer of helping him see a therapist as he looks like he really needs it..." Helen told Emily as Harry shook his head.
"I can only wish that I could get him to accept the help he has been offered since what happened to Gwen... I think he is looking for anyone to blame for what happened... He never did get a chance to tell Gwen what he feels... It's the reason why I don't think that I can ever tell him who his father is... That one night stands forever haunts me and to think that I slept with that Goblin..." Emily told Helen with a frustrated sigh but Harry paused taking in what she had said.
Norman Osborn was his father? It can't be... It wasn't true...
A month or two later Harry was staying at Kenny's apartment and ended up deciding to agree to therapy sessions. He was in a session with Dr Johann Fennhoff and looked uneasy at the foe of Nighthawk who was Gwen's hero but was now being chided for trying to kill the superhumans including Spider-Man which he would be for but Gwen wasn't a fan of him. "I am just so angry... Doc; sorry but all this... Mum refuses to see reason with me... About Spider-Man and he needs to pay... Plus finding out that she had been lying to me all this time about not knowing who my father was... That it was Norman Osborn... The Green Goblin who Spider-Man had been fighting when Gwen died..." Harry admitted as Fennhoff looked intently at this information.
A little later Harry was asked by Fennhoff to go to a location and found Fennhoff with a dark purple body suit with dark green armor platings over it including a helmet plating. "I managed to acquire some old unused equipment of your father... Perhaps speaking to his unused suit will allow you to get words off your chest to the father that you never knew..." Fennhoff offered as Harry looked at the suit nervously. "Plus this might help..." Fennhoff then said putting on a gas mask as he then opened up a container of green gas at Harry who was at his knees gasping.
"Doc... What..." Harry bbreathed as he then pased out. He got up and saw that the suit was overlooking.
"Get off your feet boy... Are you a son of my blood or not..." the suit then told him in the Green Goblin's voice and he was hsocked as he got himself up. "You feel that Harry my boy... That's the feeling of my power through your veins now... You shall be the heir of the Green Goblin legacy..." the suit then told him.
"But how... Why... You got Gwen killed..." Harry then said as the suit shook it's head.
"I thought Spider-Man got her killed? But you were right before; everyone else was just confusing you. I was misunderstood; a genius and visionary in industrial who was only playing games with your friend's idol... I was only playing games but Gwen just happened to be in the area... Spider-Man thought it would be funny to push her off while she wasn't looking... Thought that he could make himself a hero by saving her... It didn't work and he used my own Glider to silence me... The only witness to what actually happened..." the suit then told Harry as he took it in.
"Yeah... That's what happened... He has been lying to people like how he lied about Nighthawk... He has to pay... He took Gwen away from me... Made sure that we could never meet... I will avenge her and you..." Harry then said looking determined.
Watching this Fennhoff was amused and was joined by a green skinned figure in a white suit; "Mr Lyman here thinks that he is speaking to the ghost of the father that he nevre knew... The Globilun Green is affecting him and allowing his subcnoscious take a form to say exactly what he wants to hear... To vindicate himself..." Fennhoff then explained to the figure amused.
The figure laughed; "What a fun new addition to the Goblin family..." snickered the ressurected and Goblin turned Cletus 'Carnage' Kasady.
Sadly Harry Lyman's death would keep on his downward spirals as he becomes a pawn of the criminal mastermind Dr Faustus. However they are not the only threat that comes to this universe and we must turn back the clock once more for the story of the now broken Necrosword...
I have Kraven the Hunter as the Bane in this universe. A scene from the Heroes Reborn miniseries (possibly the oneshot that served as the ending of the event but I can't remember at the moment and I'm too lazy to double check) had Kraven dressed as a killer Nighthawk in a moment to be a better one like when he acted as Spider-Man while the real one was buried alive in Kraven's Last Hunt. So combining this where Kraven broke Nighthawk's back and instead of an Azrael stand in; he acted as the new Nighthawk until the real one came back to avenge his defeat. Plus Kenny Kong being replaced as Nightbird Gwen's friend.
Plus the Green Goblin suit here is the one from the new Ultimate Spider-Man comic and I am enjoying the first issue so far and I am interested in this new Ultimate Universe. Plus spoilers for that issue but the scene where Jameson is yelling for Parker and comes across Peter and actually gives him a friendly hello before going off and continuing to yell for Parker. Then he finds Uncle Ben at his office who works there and it turns out that the two are practically BFFs... That's the funniest thing I have read in comics for a long while.
