Destiny moaned as she awakened, a considerable headache erupting from her; attempting to sit up when she felt someone squeeze her hand. She squinted her eyes as she looked over and instantly smiled when she saw them. Her children slept in bed with her. Asmund held her hand as he slept on her right side, with Sarah on her left arm and Jamie resting along her left thigh.
Asmund fluttered his eyes open and instantly woke up; sitting up when he saw his mother awake, her smile beaming directly at him. "Mom, you're awake." he said softly, wrapping his arms around her neck. She rubbed his back as he buried his head into her neck. He missed her so much, memories of them playing together coming through his mind. She was finally back.
"You were gone for so long..."
"Shh, it's okay. I'm back now; that's what's important," she said as he slowly pulled away. She ran her free hand over his cheek, watching him lean against her hand, his smile bright with watered eyes. "You look just like your father with the long hair still. You're growing so handsome." she chimed, making him laugh, oblivious as the door opened to the bedroom. "You're ridiculous, mom. I'm more handsome than him!" he exclaimed, making her chuckle. "Oh, for sure! Let's not tell him, though, okay?" she teased when she heard small gasps beside her.
"Mommy!"
"Mom!"
Destiny squealed as Jamie and Sarah piled her, hugging them tightly as she teared up. "Look at you two little rascals. You both grew up so fast on me! Did you behave with your dad while I was gone?" Destiny asked as they pulled away. "Daddy took good care of me! He was good to me and Jamie." Sarah said as her mother ran her hair through her medium hair. "You look so beautiful; you'll break hearts when you grow up." Destiny told her, noticing Jamie making a cold face.
"We'll see about that."
Destiny laughed as Jamie went in for another hug, holding her tightly, "You, sir, are just like your father." she chimed, hugging him back. "I missed you and Dad, but Uncle Steve told us stories about you guys." he told her. She pulled him back, kissing him on the forehead. "I missed you too, but I'm here now. I'm not going anywhere, okay?"
Barks filled the air, and the kids made space as Destiny heard the familiar sounds of metal clanks and nails against the floor. She gasped when Chip and Chewy jumped onto the bed, whimpering and whining as they attacked her. With licks and aggressive cuddles, Destiny was at a loss as she hugged him.
"Oh, my little pups! Chip! Chewy! Hey guys!" Destiny cheered, the duo unrelenting on her, making the kids laugh. "Alright, let's give your mother some space. Can you guys let everyone know she's awake for us?" Steve asked. "Ooh, I got it!" Sarah shouted, running out of the room with the kids running after her. Chewy ran after them, but Chip stayed in place with her, making Destiny pout at his cuteness.
Bucky took her hand, pulling her carefully onto her feet, sliding his hand over her waist, pulling her against him and cupping her face, looking into her eyes before he kissed her gently. "You'll be the death of me, you know. How are you feeling?" Bucky whispered.
"Like someone tried to bulldoze me, is Tony…?"
"He's alive thanks to you." Bucky whispered, Desi sighing in relief.
"Good…" Desi said, resting her head against his chest as Bucky ran his hand through her hair. "I'll tend to kids. Be sure to shower, get all that dirt and blood off you." Bucky told her, kissing her forehead once more before he left her. As he left, Steve and Desi smiled at him.
"Hey, handsome." Desi greeted him lamely. To be alive all these years without her, to see her again, even in this sight, made them happy. "You said you'd stay safe." Steve reminded her. "And I did, I wasn't going to live without trying to bring Tony back." Desi snapped, and Steve smirked; he missed her attitude.
Steve pulled her into a bear-tight hug, her head against his chest as he took in her scent. She was back, he didn't care how, but she was back with them. "I've missed you." he whispered, raising her head. "I'm here now, and I still love you, Steve Rogers." she told him.
"I love you too," he stated before giving her a soft, gentle kiss, "I intend to show you how much tonight." She blushed, "Good luck. I imagine the kids won't let me out of their sight for a while." she told him. "We'll find time." he assured her.
Loki cleared his throat, allowing Steve to reluctantly release her. Loki pulled her close to him, her smile as infectious as he remembered, missing her touch as she slid them up his chest, cradling his face. "Lady Destiny, we must stop running into chaos, don't you agree?" Loki teased and kissed her other cheek as they finally relaxed. "Totally agree. Are you okay, my love?" she asked. Like their son, he leaned into her touch, still holding her hand as he took in her warmth.
"I've missed you, my darling wife. Our son is so much like you. It was hard sometimes, but he kept his promise to you. He's been a wonderful son." Loki told her. "He looks just like you; you did a good job, Loki." she assured him, resting his forehead against hers as he was in disbelief that she was here with them. Reluctantly, the pair separated, but still, many questions ran through her mind.
"So tell me, what happened since I was gone?" Desi asked. The men looked at each other hesitantly, but Loki spoke up first. "You were both gone for five years," Loki told her, noticing her eyes widening at the realization, "When you blipped, it was chaos everywhere. Half the population went missing."
Desi covered her mouth, the devastation on her face as she looked at her husbands, realizing the emotional trauma they must have endured.
"We stayed together for the sake of the kids. Nat and I searched for answers, hunting Thanos, trying to find anything in hopes of getting you all back. Loki would leave from time to time. He was also searching for a way to bring you back." Steve explained.
"I'm sorry that you came back to all of this; we just…we couldn't handle the loss of losing you, or Bucky for that matter." Loki spoke, and Desi nodded. A lot was swirling in her mind; looking down at her hands when she saw her wedding rings, her heart was torn. "Five years, wow." Desi muttered, unsure what to really say. When they reunited, they were emotional, but the time lost...
"What's important is that you both back, okay? Come, you should clean up before you see the others. They've been waiting for you." Steve encouraged her, and she nodded. "You're right. I'll be right there."
Desi slipped on the blue jeans and black and white flannel shirt with her combat boots, braiding her hair over her shoulder before she went downstairs. Looking around the house, she saw no one when she heard voices coming from outside. Desi carefully went out, the place unknown to her, when she came face to face with a lake; everyone she knew in the Avengers team was there with them; even Fury appeared.
"Desi!"
Desi laughed, tearing up as Nat hugged her tightly. Clint joined in on the hug as she welcomed their embrace. "You guys, I'm so glad you both are okay." Desi said, casting a healing spell over them when she saw their injuries. "You have grown so much, Desi, I'm proud of you." Nat told her. "She's right. I'm not sure where we would be without you. I'm…glad you're okay." Clint spoke, patting Desi's head.
"Destiny." Desi smiled as Bruce approached her, seeing his hand on an armband. "Bruce! Nice look! Part Hulk, part Banner!" Desi said as Bruce pulled her into a short hug, healing him as well. "Thank you for healing me. This was driving me crazy," He jested, removing the band effortlessly, "It's crazy how when we first met, you were still learning about yourself. Now, here you are, facing a whole army down against Thanos. You did good, kid."
"Thanks, Bruce, you were so kind and welcoming when we first met. Thank you for everything." Desi said, noticing Peter running towards her.
"Des!" Peter chimed, pulling her into a tight hug, hugging him back just as tightly. "Oh, you have the greatest hugs." Desi chimed. "I was just thinking the same thing," Peter told her, "I'm so glad you're awake. I came to see you as much as possible, but my Aunt May worried about me."
"I don't blame her. I'm just glad you're here now. You were so brave out there, Spider-Man." Desi told him, seeing him smile even more brightly.
"Thanks, I'll make sure to do you proud." Peter said, stepping aside when Wade stood with Vanessa and a grown Addison.
"Auntie Destiny!" Addison chimed, hugging the healer tightly. Vanessa and Wade joined in on the hug as they swayed side to side, making his daughter and Destiny chuckle at this. "You gave us a scare there! But we are so glad you came back to us. Seriously, you attract danger, little lady." Wade exclaimed, but she rolled her eyes. "Seriously, I don't even ask for it. I'm glad you all are here, though." Destiny stated. "Can we have family nights again?" Addison asked. "Of course, whenever you want." Destiny told him.
Tony was standing there with Pepper and a little girl. Desi let out a shaky breath, tearing up as she walked over to Tony, his face just as teary as he met her halfway. They tightly embraced each other, hit with the emotions of what could've been, not being able to say goodbye, to be brought back to life.
"Don't you dare pull a crazy stunt like that again." Tony whispered but was relieved to see her awake and alive once more. "If it meant you returned to us, I don't regret it. You know I love you." Desi said, "I couldn't live with myself if I didn't try. I'm so glad you're okay." Tony closed his eyes tightly, smiling, "I love you too, kid."
Desi laughed when he pulled away, calling over Pepper and his little girl. Pepper also hugged her gratefully, kissing her cheek. "Thank you for bringing him back to us." Pepper said, forever grateful. "I wanted to keep my promise: to look out for him. I'd do it again in a heartbeat." Desi said before Pepper let her go.
Tony pulled his little girl towards Destiny, and she kneeled in front of the little girl with Tony, smiling brightly at her. "Desi, I want you to meet our daughter. Morgan Destiny Stark. Morgan, this is Destiny Stark."
Desi gasped softly, covering her mouth as she fought her emotions, refusing to cry, but was honored that Tony named his daughter with her name as Morgan's middle name. "Hi, Destiny." Morgan said with a bright smile.
"Hi, Morgan! Please call me Desi. How old are you?" Desi asked kindly. "I'm six years old." Morgan told her. "Oh, wow, that's a good age. Are you as smart as your dad with technology?" Desi asked her. "I'm even smarter than him." Morgan said confidently, oblivious to Tony's glare. "Oh wow, I bet." Desi said, chuckling, making Morgan giggle with her.
"You saved my dad and so many others. I want to be just like you when I grow up." Morgan said, and Tony's eyes widened in horror, the team chuckling at his reaction. "Shit, listen, honey, you don't want that. She has too many husbands." Tony told his daughter, realizing the error he made.
"Husbands? Does she have more than one? Shit!" Morgan spoke out loud, Desi fighting not to laugh when Pepper looked at Tony with crazy eyes.
"I'm afraid it's true, little one; it can be annoying sometimes, especially when we fight." Desi confessed, trying to help Tony. "I beg your pardon, but how can it be annoying? I'm a joy to be with." Loki shouted. "But you're not her favorite." Bucky said confidently, glaring at Loki. "No one is her favorite. There is no need to fight." Steve stated. "At least I help with the kids. You both run around like madmen on missions." Loki defended, pointing to Thor and Steve. "That was more you and Steve, to be honest." Bucky corrected him, Loki squaring up to him. "Isn't that right?" Bucky argued, all looking to Desi for confirmation. The team was amused by their interaction, but Desi sighed heavily, looking back to Morgan.
"See what I mean?" Desi said, making a funny face.
"Yeah, but they are pretty cute." Morgan pointed out.
"They are, aren't they?" Desi agreed, and that was enough for Tony.
"Alright, you two, bonding time is over," Tony said as he and Desi stood up, Pepper taking Morgan's hand into his own. "So, what are your plans?"
I will take my family back home to the cabin, making up for the lost time. I'll still be around if anyone needs healing, but I promised my kids I wouldn't join on missions anymore." Desi answered as her husband came to stand around her closely.
"I'm thinking of the same thing; hang my helmet and focus on what matters." Tony said, hugging his wife close to him as he rested his hand on Morgan's shoulder; he didn't want to risk missing out on this new life. "Dad? Can we come to visit Aunt Destiny more?" Morgan asked Tony, looking over to the healer briefly. "That's a great idea, actually. If you want to play with her kids over there?" Tony offered, making her squeal in excitement.
"Thanks, Dad!" she chimed, running off. Everyone headed home individually, but the stones remained, and Steve offered to take the rocks back himself. Desi spent time with their brother, relieved to see that everyone was okay, but she could tell something plagued him.
"You seem distant. What's going on?"
He took a deep breath, fidgeting with his hands, his head still hanging. "It's about Cole."
"Our brother? What about him?"
"He...we went Virmir to retrieve the soul stone. When we got there, we didn't expect that to retrieve the stone, we had to give someone we loved for it- a soul for a soul." Lemi explained, failing to notice the pale look on her face. "We fought to give ourselves for it, but, in the end, he gave himself for it." Lemi told her. She covered her mouth, fighting the tears as reality set in. Never again would they fight or see each other; no time for amends. This was it.
"He wanted me to tell you that he was sorry." She covered her face, breaking down and crying as he pulled her into a hug, the siblings crying as they mourned their loss. "It'll be okay, sis. We still have each other," he told her. She held onto him; they were all that was left of their family. "Mom?" she looked down to see Jamie looking over her, offering his arms. "Dad said you might need a hug." Destiny looked over to Bucky and smiled sadly before pulling her son into a hug. She would honor her brother's sacrifice, wishing things had been different for them.
Desi said her goodbyes to everyone, spending time with her kids for the day before they went home. She was surprised to see the house was intact, the kitchen and living room spotless, but was surprised to see her bedroom remained unchanged. Frozen in time, her heart broke for him.
Bucky and Steve left to return the stones. When Loki returned home, Desi busied herself cleaning the home with various pies in the oven. Feeling at peace to be home, she heard Desi singing in the kitchen as she took out her pies, preparing to put her brownies into the oven.
"I've missed this…" Loki whispered, smiling to see her so relaxed and herself, wrapping his arms around her waist with kisses going along her neck. "Loki, stop. The oven is on." Desi moaned but knew it was pointless when he now stood in front of her, pulling her into a sensual kiss before he turned off the stove, his eyes just as heated.
"It's off now, love." Loki teased before assaulting her neck.
She knew she wouldn't get any rest today.
When Bucky and Steve returned, Desi had just taken her brownies out of the oven; Loki was in the living room with the children, with Chewy and Chip helping keep the kids preoccupied. "Welcome home. How did it go?" Desi asked, leaving out the apple pie. Steve smiled; apple pie was his favorite, and he would surely get a slice later. "I gave my shield to Sam. I'm retiring from duty." Steve told her. She looked to Bucky for confirmation, and he nodded, "We both are."
"You guys don't need to do that; the battlefield is your life," she told him.
"You're our life; we want more time with you and this family." Bucky said. "Bucky and I accepted a position from Fury; we're in charge of the mission assignments given to the team, but we won't ever be sent into the field." Steve added.
"Oh, that's good. You two won't last long homebound." Destiny confessed when Steve pushed the loose curls behind her ears, catching her blushing. "I won't start until next year, giving us plenty of time together." Steve whispered, Bucky coming from behind her as he placed his hands on her hips.
"Let me guess, you're detaining me again?" Desi teased. "Afraid so, just to be sure it's you, Mrs. Rogers." Steve whispered. Desi smirked but shuddered a moan when Bucky bit on her ear lobe. "Are you ready for us, Mrs. Barnes?"
"Yes, my Sergeant."
Desi squealed when Bucky lifted her, taking her upstairs, Steve following behind them. The children noticed and rolled their eyes, but one thing was for sure. Their family was back together, and they could finally be a family. A home was finally complete.
