A/N: Just a quick brief on Turbo Duels, for those who haven't watched 5Ds: You can't use regular spell cards, only special ones called Speed Spells. During every standby phase, each player gets a Speed Counter on their copy of Speed World, which they can use to activate said Speed Spells. But for every 1000 points of damage they take, they lose a Speed Counter. Everyone clear on that? Good.
Chapter 8: I Fought the Law, and the Law Lost
Some time had passed since Kalin was taken away, and the rest of The Enforcers went their separate ways. Akiza and Yusei kept in touch with Crow, though he only appeared every once in a while. As for Jack, he had completely shut them out of his life. Still, life went on. Yusei and Akiza continued to work on their Duel Runners, still looking to escape the Satellite and make a name for themselves somewhere. Along the way, they met some new friends: Rally, who Akiza swore was a girl until he corrected her, Blitz, Nervin, and Tank All went well, for a while at least. That is, until Jack came back into their lives.
It had happened so suddenly, it was hard to believe that it had happened. They had returned from scavenging parts to find Rally missing, and a note. Jack had kidnapped him, and if they wanted him back Yusei would have to duel Jack, with Stardust Dragon and their completed Duel Runner on the line. With no other choice, Yusei accepted. He lost.
That was all three years ago, but to Yusei it felt like just yesterday. He and Akiza were still trying to get duel runners built to leave, now with the additional goal of getting back at Jack and retrieving his card. So far they had managed to get one of them built, which they had already set aside for Yusei. At the moment, they were testing the new engine they had installed on Akiza's duel runner by using the old subway tunnels. Yusei stood at the abandoned station, stopwatch in hand. He hadn't long to wait, for Akiza soom came racing through the tunnel before coming to a screeching stop. Yusei checked the stopwatch, impressed.
"Not bad. Better than yesterday."
No sooner had he said that, however, did smoke begin to erupt from the engine. AKiza sighed.
"Well, back to the drawing board."
Yusei popped open the hood to inspect the damage.
"The engine's intact, but the acceleration chip is fried."
The two of them dragged it back to the hideout to conduct repairs. Blitz, Nervin, and Tank were there, sitting around the old fashioned TV they had somehow gotten to work. On catching a glance, Akiza saw that they were watching the latest match between Jack Atlas and Hunter Pace. And as usual, Jack was being a showoff and boasting. The interview had just finished up when the trio noticed Yusei and Akiza.
"Hey guys, how'd it go?"
"How does it look like it went, Tank?"
"Oh, yeah. Well, your old duel runner looked pretty cool on TV."
"Tank!"
"What? I'm just trying to make them feel better."
Yusei and Akiza tuned out the rest of the conversation, instead focusing on the Duel Runner. A while later, Rally came running in, looking excited.
"Hey, guys! Did I miss anything?"
Akiza sighed wearily, and shook her head.
"Just another failed test run. Do you think you can salvage the accelerator chip, Yusei?"
"Not unless you have a time machine. The circuits are all fused together."
"Great, and it took us ages to find enough parts to make one in the first place!"
Rally grinned, and opened the palm of his hand.
"Then it's a good thing I found this, huh?"
Everyone gathered around to inspect the object Rally had produced. Lo and behold, it was a new acceleration chip. A little too new, Akiza noticed, as did Nervin.
"Isn't this the new Skyline 3000 chip? Where'd you find this?"
"It was just lying around on the ground! Nobody was bothering with it, so I took it?"
"Are you for real? Rally, no one would leave something this valuable lying in the street!"
"Well, somebody did! And their loss is their gain!"
"Nervin's right, Rally. You need to put it back before whoever it belongs to goes looking for it."
"No way! Yusei and Akiza need it!"
"Akiza, help us talk some sense into him!"
But Akiza just walked up and accepted the "found" chip, handing it over to Yusei so that he could install it, much to the others' shock.
"Are you guys crazy?"
Yusei and Akiza ignored their concerns, and focused on finishing their work.
"Alright Akiza, start her up!"
Akiza nodded, and revved the engine. To their surprise, it worked perfectly.
"See? What'd I tell you?"
"I don't know Rally, I've still got a bad feeling about this."
"You always have a bad feeling about things!"
Before their argument could go any further, sirens blared from outside, and they could make out the flashing red and blue lights coming from the entrance. They knew this could only mean one thing: Sector Security.
"Rally Dawson, you are under arrest for the theft of personal property! Come on out, and we won't arrest any of your friends for harboring a fugitive! Don't try to escape, we have the place surrounded!"
At this, Blitz turned on Rally.
"I told you this was a bad idea! Now where did you find that, really?"
"I told you, it was just lying on the ground!"
"I'm serious, Rally! They'll take you to The Facility for this, for good this time!"
"I told you, it was abandoned!"
Yusei, calm and collected as always, pulled out a device and began scanning Rally's tracking marker.
"There, that ought to buy you some time. Go down the old subway tunnels. By the time that wears off, you'll have enough of a head start."
"But what about you guys?"
Yusei and Akiza put on their helmets, and turned on their duel runners.
"It's time to test this new chip. Ready, Yusei?"
"Ready!"
With a roar of their engines, the two shot out of the subway station, scaring the security officers as they dashed off in separate directions.
"Stop!"
But they didn't stop, they just kept going. It wasn't long before Akiza heard the police siren coming up behind her, but she didn't slow down.
"So you want to do things the hard way, huh? Alright then, I activate the field spell Speed World!"
Akiza cursed as the same screen showed up on hers, overriding her duel runner and forcing it into duel mode.
"Alright then, try and keep up copper!"
DUEL!
Security: 4000
Akiza: 4000
"Law abiding citizens first, scum! And I'll start by summoning Assault Dog (1200/800) in attack mode! Then I'll set one card facedown. Your move."
"Alright then, I draw! First, I'll summon Lonefire Blossom (500/1400) in attack mode!"
When the officer saw what monster she had summoned, he burst out laughing.
"Are you kidding me? That little weed can't hurt me!"
"Who said I was done? My Blossom has a special ability! By tributing it, I can summon any Plant Type Monster from my deck!"
"What?"
"Come on out, Queen Angel of Roses!"
A giant rose enveloped Akiza's weaker plant, blooming into her queen.
"Now skewer his puppy!"
Creating a sword out of thorns, Akiza's monster charged, ramming the pooch right through as the officer's duel runner slowed down, losing a speed counter.
Officer: 2800 (SC: 2-1)
"You're not the only one with special abilities! When one Assault dog gets destroyed by battle, I can summon another one from my deck!"
Sure enough, a second hound took the place of the last one.
"Fine then, I'll end my turn with one card face down."
"You'll pay for that, Satellite scum! I'll start by tributing my Assault Dog to bring out Handcuffs Dragon (1800/1800)!"
"So what? He might have a few more attack points, but not enough to take out my Queen Angel!"
"Who said I was done? I'm sending the Tactical Espionage Expert, Guard Dog, and my last Assault Dog from my hand to the graveyard to summon Montage Dragon (?/0) in attack mode!"
Akiza rolled her eyes as the three headed dragon emerged onto the field with a roar.
"Really? Like I haven't seen that monster before."
"Then you know that for every level the monsters I discarded had he gains 300 attack points! That total is 10, meaning his attack points are 3000 (?-3000)! Attack her Queen Angel!"
But Akiza just smirked. That was exactly what she was hoping for.
"I activate my trap card, Wall of Thorns! Since a Plant type monster was attacked, this trap card destroys all of your attack position monsters!"
"It would, if I didn't have this set face down! Go, Trap Stun! Now the effects of all other trap cards are negated until the end of the turn."
Akiza scowled, but she still had one trick up her sleeve.
"By discarding my Hedge Guard, my Queen gets to stick around!"
A transparent version of the monster appeared in front of the Angel, taking the hit as Akiza swerved to avoid the damage.
Akiza: 3400
"I may not be able to finish you off this turn, but just you wait! Next turn, you're dead meat!"
"Too bad there won't be a next turn! First, my Queen Angel's effect activates! Say goodbye to your Handcuffs Dragon!"
Thorns burst out of the ground and grabbed the weaker dragon, pulling it into the ground.
"Next, I summon Twilight Rose Knight! And with his effect, I can special summon Botanical Girl (1300/11)!"
"Big deal! None of them can beat Montage Dragon!"
"No, but do you know what makes my Knight special? He's a tuner!"
"What? You mean-"
"That's right, my level 3 Twilight Rose Knight tunes with my level 3 Botanical Girl! Behold, Splendid Rose (2200/2000)!"
Despite his initial shock, the officer went back to being cocky as soon as he saw what monster she had summoned.
"Alright, I'll admit you had me worried for a minute, but Montage Dragon is still stronger! If you surrender now, I might keep evading arrest off the report."
"A tempting offer, but like I said, this duel is over! I activate Splendid Rose's effect! By banishing my Botanical Girl from my graveyard, your Montage Dragon's attack points get cut in half!"
"What?!"
Akiza's Synchro Monster shot vines out from her wrists, wapping around the Dragon and strangling it, cutting its power in half (3000-1500).
"And now Splendid Rose attacks your Dragon!"
With a flick of her wrist, Splendid Rose sent Montage Dragon flying up into the air, crashing down hard and destroying it.
Security: 2100
"Now Queen Angel, finish him off!"
Before the Officer could correct his steering, Queen Angel stabbed him with her thorn sword, dropping his life points down to zero.
Officer: 0000
His duel runner shutting down, all the officer could do was watch as Akiza sped off into the distance.
"Great. There goes that promotion."
Akiza drove on for a while until she found Yusei staring out towards New Domino City. When he heard her approach, he turned to her and smiled.
"How'd it go."
"Those cops have no originality. They keep using the same monsters they've been using since they first showed up."
"You too, huh? Trudge still thinks Montage Dragon is supposed to scare me."
"Trudge? Isn't that the guy you said had to take the police training academy three times?"
"Yep. And he still hasn't learned."
The two chuckled, enjoying the sunset as they stared off at their goal.
"Think he'll be back."
"Without a doubt, but he won't stop us from getting to the city. And with that new accelerator chip, that'll be sooner rather than later."
Yusei nodded, his mind drifting back to the good old days.
"You go and head on back. I'll be home in a little bit."
Akiza nodded, kissing him on the cheek before driving off. Once she was out of sight, Yusei returned to his brooding.
"I'm coming for you, Jack…"
