"Any luck?" Scrooge McDuck asked. He was in his meeting room in McDuck Manor and so was all his family, his friends and his colleagues that he invited over for this very important meeting. They were all sitting around the big table.
"Any luck of finding the young ducks or Donald or Cy-Rat?" Scrooge asked. "Anything at all?"
Everyone shook their heads. It had been a week since Scrooge's grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck and his daughter Webby Vanderquack went missing. This whole mess started when Scrooge's nephew Donald Duck and his girlfriend Daisy Duck were returning to Duckberg from their vacation in the Dominican Republic on Donald's boat. As they made their way back, they got captured by sea monster pirates and their leader Admiral Beakship, a former boyfriend of Della's and the father of Huey, Dewey and Louie, who wanted to know where his three kids were. Neither Donald nor Daisy told Daniel where his sons were because they both knew that whatever he wanted them for it would not be good at all. Then Donald and Daisy met Cy-Rat, who was half rat and half cyborg, rescued them and managed to lose the sea monster pirate navy in Brazil until a scout party found them. Donald volunteered to stay behind in Brazil to give Daisy and Cy-Rat a chance to go Duckberg and warn everyone, which they did. They even rescued the young ducks from the Beagle Boys before they came to McDuck Manor. Then that night Huey, Dewey, Louie and Webby learnt that Cy-Rat was missing and curiosity got the better of them so they went after her. They found her in Scrooge's underwater lab and there they found that Scrooge's chief scientist Gyro Gearloose had secretly been building a time-traveling device. Both Cy-Rat and the young ducks used it and it got broken after its use so they were stuck wherever they went to.
After that incident, Scrooge and his family, friends and colleagues had done nothing except to look for Cy-Rat, Donald and the young ducks or find some clues to what was really going on with Cy-Rat at least.
"Curse me kilts!" Scrooge snapped. "It's been a whole week! I mean, you all have talents and brains –" He gave Launchpad McQuack an odd look. "– of your own expense. And none of you have any evidence? Any clues? Any research? Nothing at all? Somebody, tell me something!"
"May I start, Uncle Scrooge?" asked Della Duck, Scrooge's niece.
"Go ahead, Della," Scrooge said.
Della rose from her seat and told her story. She and her Moonlander friend Penumbra in her spaceship flew around the whole world and searched for her sons, her brother Donald, her cousin Webby and their supposedly new ally Cy-Rat. Even with Della's ace pilot skills and Penumbra's latest technology and gadgets from the moon and her oddly enough support, they sadly couldn't find the missing ducks or any clues.
"Did you pay a visit to our Olympian God friends and ask for their help?" Scrooge asked.
"Well, we did approach them," Della replied, "but none of them seemed to be in a happy mood. By that, I mean there were dark clouds and thunder and lightning. If I went there when that happened, I don't think my presence would have made anything better, if not worse in fact."
"Well, may I suggest you go back to them, see if they're in a better mood and try to ask them?" Scrooge suggested. "And am I to take it that Penumbra isn't here because she had to go back to the moon?"
"Yes, Uncle Scrooge," Della replied. "She still uses the moon's latest technology to scan this planet to see if she can find everyone we're trying to find. She's not having any success, but she's not giving up, which I am very thankful for. That concludes my report." She sat back down in her chair.
"Do I need to ask Launchpad what he found?" Scrooge muttered under his breath.
"I'm glad you asked, Mr. McD," Launchpad said happily.
Scrooge wished he didn't even mutter at all.
"I flew around the whole world in the Sunchaser and this is what I found." Then Launchpad emptied his big bag and showed everyone on the table what he found. What everyone saw was… a baseball cap, a pizza takeaway box with a half-eaten slice of pizza, a Darkwing Duck comic book, a pair of shoes and a rock.
"Very interesting, Launchpad," Scrooge said sarcastically. "But how is this going to help us find the missing ducks or Cy-Rat?"
Launchpad froze for a moment. "Oh, you meant that strange rat creature and our four young friends that went missing nearly a week ago? No, I found nothing of the kind."
Scrooge wasn't surprised. "So all you accomplished during your mission to look for the missing people you were supposed to find was wasting plane fuel?"
"That's right, Mr. McD," Launchpad said. "Have I earned a bronze, silver or gold medal for it?"
Scrooge grinded his teeth as he turned to Gyro and his team, Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera. "Gyro, tell me you and your team have found something with all the research and technology you have before I lose my temper."
Gyro, Fenton and Gandra rose up from their seas and explained they tried to fix the machine so they could find where Cy-Rat and the young ducks had gone to, but they failed.
"If they went to the past or to the future," Gyro said, "your guess is as good as anyone else's."
"Or there may even be a chance they have gone to a different planet," Fenton said. "An undiscovered one."
"Or maybe to a different dimension," Gandra said.
"Or the past in a different dimension," Fenton said.
"Or the future on a different planet," Gandra said.
"Or maybe a –"
"Stop right there!" Scrooge snapped. "Now, sit right back down."
They did so.
Then Scrooge turned to Daisy. "Do you have anything, Daisy?"
Daisy just sadly shook her head. She didn't even stand up.
Even though she didn't have anything to give, Scrooge was glad that at least she was being honest and she wasn't wasting time with theories or nonsense like Launchpad brought to the table.
"Mr. McDuck?" Lena Sabrewing held her hand up.
"Yes, Lena? What have you got?"
Lena, her stepsister Violet and the young ducks May and June rose from their seats.
"We have been doing a lot of research about this Cy-Rat," Lena said.
"And these are, I must warn you," Violet said, "myths and legends, not guaranteed to be facts, but should still be good enough to be brought to everyone's attention."
"Go ahead," Scrooge said.
Then Lena used her magic to show what Violet, May and June what they researched since the young ducks and Cy-Rat went missing. All they could find during the week with Violet's brains, May and June's brains and Lena's magic were there was some lost forgotten religion that might have happened during since time began. They had no more than that, but they all agreed that might have been where Cy-Rat and the young ducks went to after the time machine was activated. It was the only theory that they could come up with at the time. They had nothing else.
"Cruse me kilts!" Scrooge snapped. "This is worse and more complicated than I thought this would be!" Then he took a deep breath and calmed himself down. "Okay, the bad news is we haven't found Cy-Rat or the young ducks or Donald yet, but the good news is we have found some clues. Whether they're facts or legends doesn't matter at the point; anything is helpful at this point. Clues that we can use to research further into this mystery so let's get on with it. Della, Launchpad, take whatever planes you can find and continue to search the whole planet. Gyro, Fenton and Gandra, continue to research all you can. Lena, Violet, May and June, continue to research all you can. And, Daisy, try and help anyway you can. Okay, we will meet back here in one week. Meeting adjourned."
Then everyone left the meeting room to get busy.
As Della left the meeting room, her moonlander device started ringing. She answered it and her friend Penumbra's face appeared. "Hey, Penny," she greeted.
"Della, how did the meeting go?" Penumbra asked.
Della sighed. "Not as bad as it could have been," she replied, "but we have more leads to look into and we're all very grateful for your very best efforts to help me search the whole planet."
"You're all very welcome," Penumbra said. "I would come and help you search the planet again, but the moon is very busy here. However, while I am here, I shall continue to the moon's technology to try and find them. Best of luck."
"Thanks, Penny. I'm gonna need it."
Then Penumbra's face vanished from Della's moonlander device. Then Della noticed her brother's girlfriend Daisy looking very sadly at a photo of him and she appeared her. "How are you doing, Daisy?"
Daisy sighed before she sadly looked at Della. "I just feel bad about leaving Donald when I did. I know he told me and Cy-Rat to leave when he did to warn you guys, but I feel like I should have stayed or tried to get him to come back with us. And I'm starting to regret bringing Cy-Rat to you guys. I'll never forget that she saved me and Donald from that sea monster fleet, but I feel like we've lost your boys and Webby all because I brought her here."
"Well, I don't know about Cy-Rat or what her plans are," Della said, "but we know Donald. He's very stubborn and hot-tempered, though he does put other people's needs above his own." The big example was when he raised her three boys after she got stranded on the moon for more than a decade, which she would always be very grateful to him for. "I'm sure he'll be okay."
Daisy sighed. "He'd better be."
