Chapter 21: Arya

"What do we do?" Bran asked.

Arya hesitated. A part of her felt that they should leave immediately, that if they were caught by the two people there, they were finished. The other more dominant part of her told her that they should wait, and that was the answer she gave.

"We wait and we see."

"Wait?!" Bran exclaimed.

"We get as much information as we can." Arya explained. "Then we leave and we go and tell father."

"Do you think he'll believe us?" Bran asked.

Arya hesitated. She wanted to say that yes, of course father would believe them. But then she thought on everything and she wasn't so sure. After all, how would they explain the fact that they could quite clearly see in the dark. That they knew exactly who it was that was speaking. Father didn't share their abilities.

"We need to know exactly what it is they are planning. We need enough information that it cannot be questioned." She said then.

Bran looked as if he wanted to argue, but thankfully, he accepted what she had to say with a nod. They turned back to where the two figures thankfully still were.

"We both know that the timing has to be just right."

"Indeed, that is why I suggest you get in touch with our friend the ploughman and ensure that he knows exactly what he has to do."

"Very well. And the others? You know they will want to get involved especially if it means causing the Lannisters difficulty."

"Then I think we should encourage them as well. How malleable is the young lord?"

"Very. Our friend there has ensured his father is dying and that he has all of the power. Within a few months he will be the only thing standing between one of his sisters inheriting and chaos."

"Good." The second figure said.

"What about the Hand of the King?" the second figure asked.

Arya shared a look with Bran. This was exactly what they needed.

"He is going in every different direction trying to find out who killed his predecessor. He is missing the obvious."

"Then perhaps the time has come for you to guide him to the obvious."

"Indeed. I will also initiate my plan to remove the Mockingbird."

"Good. I don't understand why you let that fool rise so high. Nor why you allowed Arryn to keep him employed. Especially given what Arryn promised us before."

Arya saw Bran's eyebrows shoot up; she placed a hand on his arm to stop him from moving. They needed a little bit more.

"The King's son sent someone to assassinate his sister."

Myrcella!

"Why?"

"He thinks she is a threat. He has always thought she was a threat. The attempt will fail, I ensured that the person the Prince sent was one of ours. The figure knows not to mess with the Starks. Not after the last time."

"Are they truly necessary?"

"Yes. The north cannot be ruled by anyone other than a Stark. Even the mad King knew that. Originally he didn't want to have Rickard and Brandon killed, he wanted a message set for them. But that idiot Rossart whispered in his ear and ensured that what happened happened."

"I see."

"So, we shall ensure the Starks are kept safe. And that our egg bearer understands that."

"Indeed."

"Very well, then the time has come for us to part. I shall see you again after the Hand's Tourney."

Arya blinked and whispered to Bran. "We need to get out of here now." If they were found by the two men, they were finished.

Thankfully, Bran agreed for he was immediately moving silently out of the alcove. Arya followed, they made sure to keep themselves as quiet as possible which was quite the achievement given, they were moving with direwolves. They shimmied passed various dragon skulls, down steps, up steps, through hallways and passageways.

All the while all Arya could think of was what she'd heard. This was not right. This was not good. Something terrible was being planned. Something completely terrible and she had no idea what it was. But she knew that she needed to let their father know. That was the only way to prevent this from happening.

Before she knew it, they were in the normal part of the keep. Bran turned to speak but she pushed him forward. They needed to get to the Tower of the Hand and quickly. They could be overheard at any point. Bran moved and this time she took the lead. Moving passed various courtiers and noblemen-some of whom were northmen-others were Lannisters. None of them could be trusted. Not yet.

Soon enough they were in the Tower of the Hand. When they got to Bran's room, Arya made sure to shut the door and then slumped against the wall.

"What are we going to do?" Bran asked.

"We're going to need to find out where Varys comes from." Arya said.

"How?"

"I have an idea." Arya said. "It's going to require you speaking to some of the Maesters here."

"What are you going to do?" Bran asked.

"Sneak into his rooms."
