In the early hours of morning Ace wakes up and gets out of bed, she smells something she hasn't smiled in years. 'Did I really dream what I think I did, great now am I not mentally frustrated; I am also sexually frustrated.' Ace gets in the shower and gets an idea 40 minutes later she is out and ready to start her day. Hoping she doesn't dream like that again tonight and when Graham comes by for lunch she can control herself. As Ace is walking into her office her phone rings. "Good morning," Ace says, her voice a little raspy when her dream comes to mind.
"Is everything alright?"
"As alight it can be, I am walking in right now, how did you sleep last night."
"Your voice sounded a little raspy."
"Oh sorry."
"Are you sure you are ok?"
"As ok, I can be with the day or days I am about to face."
"You know if you need a sounding board, I am only one call away."
"I know and I really appreciate it. I am in my office; I need to hunker down."
"See you at lunch."
"Graham."
"I need to make sure you eat. You didn't have breakfast, right?"
"How?"
"You are stressed right now and if I learned something traveling with the Doc was that in stressful times you don't eat."
"I have a love/hate relationship that you know that."
"I may have kept sarnies on me for occasions like that."
"That isn't surprising. I really do have to go Graham." Ace hangs up before she can get distracted by Graham even more. She walks in to see Nyssa pacing.
"Ace I am so sorry I didn't catch this sooner."
"It happened before you started it here. It is my fault. This is my baby, the most important thing to me." Nyssa opens up the books on both computers and each starts going through them from the moment Paul started working there and waiting for a callback from their lawyer. "How far does it go back on your end?"
"I am writing everything down," Nyssa stops looking at the computer and rubs her temples. Neither of them have noticed hours have passed and there is a knock on the door. "Who could that be?"
Ace looking at the time, "I'll give you one guess."
"Graham?"
"Yep, he told me that he is going to make sure that we both eat. Come in Graham." He opens the door and walks in with a large bag of take out.
"Lunch for you two and I. If I know you two, neither of you have taken a break since you got here around 7 and it's 12:30 now. You two need a break."
"Graham."
"Ace." Nyssa watches them as it seems they are having a conversation with their eyes.
"Tomorrow can you see if Tegan is free."
Graham looks away from Ace's hazel eyes to the ever shifting between blue, gray and green eyes of Nyssa, "of course I can do that." Graham smiles knowing it must be hard on the couple and only to get harder as time progresses. Graham starts to form a plan in his head for dinner. "Now you two eat."
"What no, be merry joke," Ace asks.
Graham reaches to grab her free hand, "I know right now there isn't a big chance of either of you being happy." Graham looks over to Nyssa, "I may not fully get what is going on, but the two of you have my support every step of the way and Tegan's, and most likely once this hits the papers as it will, everyone who has traveled with or knew the Doctor."
"We do have a really supportive community, Ace." Nyssa adds.
"I know," Ace is looking at her hand in Graham's. "I also have a great guy, do I have you?"
"You have me," they stare into each other's eyes as two stomachs growl, "we should eat." They start eating and the phone rings. Ace jumps up to answer it.
"Hello?"
"So it took you two years to find it." Ace knows that voice and she tries to keep a monotone sound.
"How far does it go Paul?"
"Hahaha, you were so naive Dorothy and refused to tell," the phone clicks as Graham makes a decision that he knew could make Ace pissed off at him.
"What the hell Graham."
"I know you're pissed, but all communication should go through your lawyers to protect not only the two of you, but A Charitable Earth. I know this is your baby and the most important thing to you. I don't want to see you lose it."
"Graham."
"If you want me to leave I will, but I will do everything in my power to make sure you lose nothing more because of that sorry excuse for a man."
"Graham, let me speak, I don't want you to leave. You just did something the Professor would do, when I would get angry at someone who betrayed me; he would remove me from the situation."
"How angry are you at me?" She sighs as Nyssa watches them.
"A little bit, but you are trying to look out for others. Just don't do it again."
"Block his numbers and please," he grabs both of her hands and brings them up to her chest, "let your lawyers do all the talking, I care about you too much."
"I care about you too Graham." Nyssa is sitting there eating her food watching the fledgling couple overcome what could've been their first argument.
"You two, eat, as glad as I am that Graham hung up the phone we do need to get back to work." Ace and Graham start to eat. 20 minutes later Graham makes his farewell to the both of them. Ace and Nyssa get back to work. "How long was he working here again?"
"2005-2021, we were together from 2016-2021."
"Did something happen between the two of you in 2018."
"I said I didn't know if I wanted to marry him."
"What brought that up?"
"Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding," Ace doesn't look up from her computer, "wait," Ace pauses, "he did all of this because I didn't envision us getting married."
"You two were dating for 2 years before the topic came up?"
"It came up before, but I always changed the topic."
"Ace."
"I know," Ace leans back.
