Chapter 20: Never Again

At Owen's lab...

"Sounds like a lively group has arrived." Owen heard the commotion outside his lab.

"You fought despite how broken you are." Yami entered the lab with Asta in his grip. "Have him take a look at you and your head."

"Yami, come on in." Owen greeted.

"This guy, who looks completely out of place in this tower, is the Kingdom's best quack doctor." Yami explained. "You might've gathered that from how he looks."

"That's so rude." Owen pouted.

"He managed to reattach one of my arms after it almost fell off before, so he's a great recovery mage." Yami added. "He's also hime-sama's master at healing magic; have him check you out."

"Are you alright?" Owen chuckled. "I'm Owen, a recovery mage who works directly under the Wizard King. Pleasure to finally meet you, Asta. I heard all about you when I go out drinking with Yami. Lady Freyja also has many fond memories of you and who's the other boy's name... ah yes, Yuno."

"I've got something I gotta take care of." Yami made himself scarce. "I've got a feeling that I'm gonna win today."

"You're going gambling, aren't you?" Asta retorted.

"Now then, let's see." Owen began his inspection. "Water Healing Magic: Qualle Operation." he summoned his jellyfish swarm to analyze Asta's wound. "They got you good, didn't they?" he winced, seeing the burns under the unwrapped bandages. "Don't you worry. My spell sees through the body of the person it envelops, so I can get a clear look at the affected area and heal it with precision. Now, for some mana to promote healing." he suddenly paused when the diagnosis came back. "Asta..." he removed his glasses and started explaining the spell's analysis.

Later that evening...

"I see." Rhiannon nodded after Owen informed her about Asta's diagnosis. "Curse Magic, huh? Thank you, Owen. I believe Vanessa Enoteca from Yami's Squad is from the Witches' Forest." she pondered after Owen took his leave. Summoning a magical pigeon messenger, she sent it to the Black Bulls' Headquarters with a summons for Vanessa.

Sometime later...

With the magical token she received from Rhiannon, Vanessa stood outside the Witches' Forest' entrance. "Hey!" she yelled. "The smartest witch to ever grace this world since the creation of the Land of Witches is back. I need something, so open up."

The doors flung open and a massive flock of crows flew out, swallowing Vanessa and taking her into the forest.
