A/N: So I've seen a lot of Pseudo-Crossovers with Dragon Ball with MHA before, some better then others, but the one thing I've noticed is they either make Izuku a Saiyan or relegate him to secondary character by putting a DB character in the spotlight. So what I wanted to do with this fic was explore a scenario where Izuku was trained as a Ki Wielder but remained 100% human. No Super Saiyan Izuku shenanigans in this fic, folks. He's earning his powerups in this one.
A small child with unruly green hair lay sprawled out on the grass of a small park, his body scuffed and mildly bruised as he groaned on the ground. He wasn't laying there intentionally, the entire reason he'd gone to the park had been to do as most small children did in his era, to run around like the tiny wild monster he was playing at being a hero with other children his age. Unfortunately the child had two massive problems accomplishing that goal, the first was that he was a social pariah thanks to his having been born unlucky enough to not have a Quirk, a genetic trait granting the possessor an amazing power. Something he and his peers had only learned in the last year.
Globally the population people lacking a Quirk had dropped to just twenty percent, with the majority of those being of the elder generations. By the time one counted the child's generation then the global total could be counted in four digits.
The child was a hero fanatic, through and through. He loved Heroes of all shapes, sizes, stripes and power sets. In spite of, or perhaps because of, his lack of a Quirk of his own the boy fixated on the exemplars of what Quirks could do. Above all those he idolised was the Top Hero in all of Japan, All Might, the Symbol of Peace. For the child this one Hero set the example of what it was to be a Hero, no, what it was to be a good person. As such he did all in his power to emulate that hero in every way he could imagine.
Which lead to his second problem, his overwhelming desire to emulate All Might, to become a hero even without a quirk, had lead to the boy butting into someone else's problem. When he arrived at the park he'd spotted another boy being bullied for having a 'weak' Quirk by someone very familiar to the boy. That other person was Katsuki Bakugou, the boy's oldest friend. The boy had intervened and tried to stop the bullying, but he was just an average five year old boy with no special powers, and Katsuki was a natural athlete with a powerful explosion Quirk, even if it was basically just small fire crackers at their age.
And Katuski had back up.
Naturally it was a very one sided fight.
Once, not so long ago, as recently as just before the boy had learned he would never have a Quirk, he and Katsuki had been best friends, nearly inseparable. Their mothers had been friends for years so when they both had children they naturally hoped their little ones would be friends too. And for the first few years they where, they did everything together, endlessly playing and gushing over heroes together, especially All Might. But when Katsuki's Quirk came in that all changed. Suddenly the other boy started looking down on everyone, seeing his flashy Quirk as proof he was destined for greatness, while everyone else was destined to remain on the sidelines.
And it just got worse when the boy was diagnosed as Quirkless. For some reason, every time the boy declared he'd become a Hero even without a Quirk Katsuki would get enraged, every time he would step in to protect another child from his friend's bullying the other boy's ire would be redirected onto him. The boy's young mind didn't understand it at all. Heroes where supposed to help people, to protect them from the bad guys, bad guys like bullies and do so with a smile. Just like All Might! So why was Katsuki doing the opposite when he wanted to be a Hero too?
This all came together in the beating the boy received from his friend becoming more and more common, to a nearly every day occurrence for the boy. One year, and so much had changed. For the boy, that change hurt to much more then the bruises! He wanted his friend back! He wanted to go back to playing with his figures with Katsuki! He want to watch the latest news about All Might with his best friend at his side! It didn't make any sense for Katsuki to change so much so fast!
It was all too much and the little child let it out in the only way his little mind could manage, by crying his eyes out, literal rivers of tears running from his eyes as he sniffled and sobbed on the ground while staring up into the sky.
...The boy barely noticed the odd white streak trailing through the sky until it stopped suddenly and just hung still in the air for a moment. He definitely noticed it when it started getting bigger, though!
What was it? A shooting star? But that didn't make sense, didn't they just fly through the air and disappear? He started to worried that it was some kind of meteor, but even as a five year old he knew they shouldn't just change directions either.
Needless to say, with him that confused, and a little scared, already the white thing straight up popping out of existence seriously left the poor child absolutely reeling. What had just happened? Where did it go? Had he been imagining things?
He looked to his left to ask the teenager now squatting next to him if he'd seen the white streak when his mind processed the fact that the teenager in question was not there a second ago. He was about to jump away in surprise when he saw the teenager's blue eyes looking at him with concern and worry. Before the child could move the teenager started speaking, "Hey, you ok kid? What's got you so upset?"
Normally the child would have just gone with the lessons his teachers and mother had instilled in him, defaulting to the Stranger Danger cautionary tales and running as quickly as he could from any strange teenagers who had approached him. But there was just something about this teenage boy that made the child lower his guard, something in those eyes that told him that the older boy's concern was genuine. Was this boy a Hero Student? Maybe.
After a pause the child replied, "My friend…" The child looked down at his bruised and scuffed arms, "He…" The older boy shifted into a cross legged position while the child collected his thoughts. Eventually the child managed to continue, "He bullies everyone for having weaker Quirks. I try to tell him it's wrong but he and his other friends gang up on me."
The older boy looked the child over and shook his head, "Doesn't sound like much of a friend if he does that too you." A hard truth that caused the child to pout and look down. Despite how Katsuki behaved now that didn't mean the child didn't still care for his friend, or had stopped wanting to be his friend. The older boy then asked, "So, Quirks. Care to tell me what the two of you have?"
The child flinched, an action the older boy noticed but didn't comment on, before stuttering, "H-His Quirk make explosions from his hands." A simplistic answer, but at his age the finer details of how his friend's Quirk worked hadn't occurred to him yet. After a moment's pause the older boy urged him to continue.
"And your Quirk?"
The child's heart beat faster as worry overtook him. He still remembered how his peers had changed from friendly to treating him like a freak, not wanting to go near him in case they somehow caught the 'Quirkless disease' or some such callous rumour. His teachers had been no different, treating him like he was diseased or somehow deficient compared to his peers, not able to keep up mentally or physically despite him never falling behind before. The child couldn't help but quiver in fear at how the older boy might react to learning the truth. But, at the same time, if he remained silent the teenager might just lose his patience with him…
So, despite his reluctance the child admitted, "I… I'm Quirkless."
To the child's surprise the older boy didn't scoff at him in disgust, he didn't yell at him for wasting his time, not a single negative reaction at all. Instead the older boy simply nodded along before saying, "Yeah. It can be real rough when things feel unbalanced like that." The older boy sighed before asking, "So he bullies others and beats you up. Does he bully you specifically?"
The child shook his head, "N-No… I mean… he tells me to stay out of his way and not slow him down and calls me a Deku… But he only beats me up when I try to get him to s-stop bullying others." The older boy's eyes narrowed slightly as he nodded along.
He then asked, "And how often do you try and stop this bullying? And, if I may, why do you try and stop it rather then just avoiding trouble?"
"B-Because…" The child stood up, with his little fists balled up in front of him with determination and passionately replied, "That's what Heroes do! They help people no matter what! No matter how hard it is! And they do it with a smile on their face!"
The teenager stared at the little boy for a few moments before he cracked a smirk and started chuckling, after a few more moments the boy fully cracked up, laughing heartily, clutching his stomach as he let the laughter howl from within. After laughing for a solid minute he wiped a tear from his eye and placed a hand firmly on the child's shoulder, the grip strength surprising the child since it was greater then the older boy's slight frame would suggest, and he said, "WELL SAID! You're exactly right! That's is exactly how a Hero should act!"
That affirmation brought a smile to the child's face for an all too brief moment before sadness set back in. When the older boy noticed the rapid change in mood he looked at the child seeking answers, answers the child was ready to provide without being prompted, "But… without a Quirk… I… I…" Tears threatened to burst from his eyes once more before he continued, "I… can't… be a Hero… can I?"
Right as the child was about to full burst into tears once more the teen slammed his other hand down on the child's other should and gave him a light shake, snapping the little boy out of his misery before saying, "Rubbish! Look at yourself! Look at how you act! Jumping in to save others, just like a True Hero!" The words cut through the fog of misery, drawing the child's attention entirely and completely to the face of the teenage boy in front of him, "Not only can you be a Hero, you already are a Hero, Kid!"
"Give it up kid, it's never going to happen."
"Get out of my way, Deku!"
"You're useless without a Quirk! Just a Deku!"
"Stay away from him, you'll get the Quirkless disease!"
"EWWY! It's that Quirkless kid!"
"I'm so sorry Izuku!"
Words of the passed echoed in the mind of the child.
"Not only can you be a Hero, you already are a Hero, Kid!"
The small child, Izuku Midoriya, five years old, diagnosed as Quirkless just a year prior, threw himself into the chest of the teenage boy and started crying harder then he ever had before in his entire life. Never before had so few words meant so much to him in that single moment. If the child's wailing hadn't been muffled by the teenager's jacket he may have been worried about suspicious bystanders, but as it was that wasn't a concern. No, to the teenager what mattered was the question he asked once the child had stopped crying.
"Kid, if you leave things as you are now you will only ever be a Hero in name only. If you want to be what the world at large considers a Hero you will need to change. You'll need to train your body, harder then anyone!" He looked the little boy in the eye and asked, "Kid, would you allow me to train you? I want to help you become the Hero you want to be, the Hero I know you can be, will you let me do that?"
With a grin on his face, and tears in his eyes the little boy replied emphatically, "YES! Please train me!"
The teen grinned and offered his fist to the little boy, "It's a deal then!"
"Yeah!" the child replied, bumping his knuckles against the teen's.
