A/N Fallout

Alt title: Talk about the butterfly effect

.

A lot of this chapter is thanks to Sarah2cold for helping me get past my writers block.

.

The FFN traffic graph is down. And I hate it.

Wonder where DancingLeaf went.

.

.

This chapter is going to be structured, WILDLY different in order to keep the story coherent. It's not chronological, that's so I can continue with the story while also bring some things in later without it seeming like I pulled it out of my ass.

.

.

Casanova5424: You're right. Flechette is the key. But Khepri was instrumental in setting up the scenario for which Scion could be hit. The whole thing is that Kitsu is now starkly aware that she can no longer rely on her meta knowledge. Canon has diverged and the odds of surviving Gold Morning are now a complete unknown.

Guest: *Evil Laughter* I've waited MONTHS to pull that plot twist. And you are right about Kitsu having selective morality. She doesn't really feel a lot of guilt or empathy unless she can relate to the individual.

RadChaos897: Taylor is still a parahuman, she can still trigger. *Evil devil emoji*

And you're welcome for the bonus.

Akiralator: STILL READING! No spoilers.

Draco0905: I, have no idea what you're trying to say. The question was more asking if an entity had used earth in a cycle before.

Gogmazios: You're Welcome!

Is it just me, or do capes seem to only date other capes? I mean. There's the Dallons, Pelhams, GG and Gallant, now Vista and Kitsu.

I'm seeing a trend. Just saying.

I mean it makes sense. If I were a cape I'd date a cape. For one try explaining to your civilian girlfriend that you missed your one month anniversary because little Timmy fell down the well.

Not only that, I imagine capes relate to other capes better.

Kitsu POV

.

I got here early and switched the seats around. So I'm now against the window and as far from Dennis as possible.

The kid who was sitting here tried to say something. But I used my master power to get him to leave me alone.

I cut it off after the teacher showed up. And the class went normally after that.

.

.

-Biology class-

.

.

I walk up to Mrs. Kindley. A shorter Caucasian lady in her forty's, with curly black hair similar to Taylor.

"Hey, can I take that home?" I ask and point to an embalmed electric eel in a jar behind her.

She stops typing and looks up. Then turns around to see what I'm pointing to.

"Why?" She asks slowly as she turns back to me.

"I can manipulate biology with a touch. I wanna figure out how those misnamed knifefish make electricity. See if I can make other things do it." I explain with a smile.

"That's, honestly rather interesting. I'd love to see how that turns out." She says cheerfully after a bit of thought.

"So I can have it?!"

"Unfortunately that's not real." She says. "It's just a display."

'Are you KIDDING ME?!'

"Well then, where can I find an electric eel?" I ask.

She hums in thought for a bit.

"Well~ there's the Amazon. But that might be a bit tedious." She says jokingly. "Other than that? I'm not sure, you could maybe find one for sale online. Or get a dead one from a curio shop."

I slouch and make my way back to my seat.

"Thanks anyway." I say dejectedly.

"If there is anything else, let me know." She offers. "I'm actually rather interested to see what you'll come up with."

'Maybe.' I think to myself.

I turn back around to her with and zip back to her desk.

"Do you know where I can get anything bioluminescent?!" I ask excitedly.

"You mean like fireflies?" She says.

I stare at her for a second before throwing both hands to my face and groaning in frustration.

I'm an idiot.

"It's still April, they tend to only pop up in late May around these parts. But I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find some." She adds helpfully. "And if unique biology is something you're interested in. I may have a suggestion."

I look back to her with expectancy.

"There are many plants with unique properties. I'd recommend looking at various trees and vines. Maybe some flowers." She says.

"Hmm, not a bad idea!" I say. "Alright, thanks!"

She smiles brightly and points to the clock.

"You have three minutes to turn in your assignment." She says.

'Damnit!'

.

.

Lunch time.

Yay.

As I walk over, I see the person I've been avoiding for more than a week.

I've put this off long enough.

Walking up, I decide I'm not ready for this. So I go ahead and sit at the opposite end, next to one of Vicky's friends.

"Hmm? Oh! Where have you been? I haven't seen you here in more than a week!" She says excitedly.

She's a preppy looking brunette with long brown hair. And I can't for the life of me remember her name.

"I kept forgetting my lunch at home." I say quietly. "So here I am."

"Cool, now talk! You and Vista, details!" She says excitedly.

'And it seems I've found another reason to avoid lunch at school.' I think bitterly.

"I wanna know too! I mean, I thought you had the hots for Dennis. But then that video on the PHO went up and now this!" The blonde across from me says. "And why have you not said anything Vicky?!"

"Not my place." Vicky says through her salad.

I leave a decoy and take my lunch. I'm just going eat lunch at home from now on.

Firebreather POV

.

I put down the newspaper with a refound hope. Three years I've been running around aimlessly. Constantly avoiding those damn "Cryptid Hunters".

But that might finally be over!

"New Wave huh? This is it! My chance!" I say to no one in particular.

The PRT only ever try and capture me. And regular people just treat me like a monster. But the Dallons adopted a Case 53! That means there are people out there who'll accept me!

I just need to make it there without getting caught. I can join New Wave and show everyone I'm not a monster! I'm just, human with extra flavoring!

"Brockton Bay! Here I come!" I shout excitedly as I unfurl my wings and take off from the radio tower I climbed up.

Just need to figure out where Brockton Bay is exactly. I know it's northeast.

'Eh, I can always find a map.'

Pinky POV

.

"Yes!" I shout quietly.

Melting the lock off the door with my acid, I make my way into the back of the grocery store.

I slip my way in, literally, and find a crate of freshly delivered fruit. Oranges!

"Oh man! Finally!" I squeal in delight.

I haven't eaten in days! Between avoiding people and the whole homelessness. My only friend and confidant died a few days ago in a skirmish between Frozone and The Underminer. So I've been left to fend for myself.

I've had, mild, success.

I waste no time stuffing the godsended food into my mouth. Relishing and savoring the feeling of just having something to fill my stomach other than the dull burning of an empty gut.

As I sit here in the dimly lit backroom of the grocery store. I can't help but start to feel sad. I only remember a few vague things about myself. And I only have a few months of actual memories. The first was running, so much running and scavenging.

Then I met miss Burke! And she gave me a name! She let me stay in her house and even taught me how to read!

Now she's gone. And I'm all alone again.

'No! Not here! Not now!' I think to myself. Tightening the lump in my throat.

My tears tend to be, extra acidy.

All I have left. Is a note with a number to call, in case anything happened to her. I already called it twice. No answer. Maybe one more time? My phone is almost dead anyways. And I don't have a way to charge it.

I go ahead and pull out my phone and dial the number.

Third times the charm.

"I knew it was too much to hope fo-"

"Tracy? What the hell? I thought you were done." The voice of a woman says.

A burst of hope explodes in my chest, and I have to keep myself from crying once again.

"U-um, this isn't Tracy." I start.

"You have twenty seconds to explain why you're calling from one of my burners or I hang up." The voice says sternly.

"She gave me this number to call and she's dead!" I say quickly, desperate to not lose the hope I just found.

The line is quiet for a while before I hear her again.

"Who are you?" She asks.

"Um, I'm not entirely sure. But my name is Pinky, or at least that's what miss Burke always called me. I-I just, I don't know. I'm just so alone. I don't know what to do right now." I choke out. "She just left me a number to call in case a-anything happened to her. I n-never thought I'd need to use it. Not so soon." I say, no longer able to hold in the tears welling up in my eyes.

They fall to the floor with soft *tss* sounds as they hit and melt holes into the concrete.

"Um, where are you?" She asks softly.

"I, I'm not really sure. Some, somewhere in Seattle." I say.

"Seattle Washington?" The lady asks.

There are other Seattle's?

"I guess?"

"Is there a tall building? A weird shaped one with a bulb at the top?" She asks.

"Yeah! Yeah there is! How'd you know?!" I ask excitedly.

"Okay, I'm going to send someone to come get you. They'll be at that building tomorrow at noon. Okay?"

'The space needle?' I think anxiously.

"Um, there're a lot, of people there. Can, can it be somewhere else?" I ask nervously.

"I don't think there'd be anywhere noteworthy that my guy can find you where there aren't a lot of people. Sorry, I know it'll be scary. But you have to trust me." She says.

*Beep*

(5% Battery Left)

'Miss Burke wouldn't have given me their number if they couldn't be trusted.'

"Okay, I'll be there. What's your name?"

"You can call me Faultline."

Gully POV

.

"And so, we've decided to promote Spire to team captain." The man across from me states.

'Again?!' I rage internally at the rejection.

"But Spire only has a year of experience! I have three! And I tested higher in the leadership exams!" I protest.

It's all in vain. They'll do this again, and again, and again. I'll never be leader. All because of my looks.

Can't have a hunchback freak acting as the face after all.

"I'm sorry. But the decision is final." He says. "Is there anything we can-"

"Stop." I say and stand up with a creak. "Just don't. I'll be heading back to my room."

He gives no word of protest as I shuffle out of the room. Making my way down the halls of Whetstone I can't help but feel isolated. The number of people who stare and idly slow when I approach. The way they try and fail to make it seem as though they aren't staring at me as I pass them.

I can literally feel the vibrations of the earth around me. I know when they stop and turn around. I'm used to it. But I hate that I am used to it.

"Hey Gully! Wait up!" I hear behind me.

Turning to the bronze armored man. I can't help but feel a little less disheartened.

"Tecton, sir." I say and give a salute.

He reaches me and stops a few feet away.

"Hey, I'm." He goes before giving a sigh. "I heard what happened. Again." He finishes softly.

Everett is the leader of the PRT here. And always goes out of his way to settle disputes and keep everyone together.

"I can't keep doing this. I have the skills Tecton. I have the experience and the drive. I just, why won't they give me a chance?" I say as I slouch. "Do you know what it's like? To constantly be rejected? Time and time again? And for something you have no control over?" I ask.

He gives a small nod, and I can imagine him pursing his lips in thought under his helmet.

"I, honestly can't say I do. Look, Gully, there's something I want to show you." He says and pulls out a phone from his pocket.

He opens it and presses play.

It's Kitsu. That other Case 53 the higher ups have been trying to recruit for years. With no success.

She's a member of New Wave?

"What's New Wave?" I ask.

"Just keep watching, I'll explain after the video." He says.

"I mean what made you join New Wave over the PRT? Haven't the PRT West been trying to recruit you for almost three years?" The lady clarifies.

"Because Mark was the first one to ask me how I was doing and offered me a family first, employment second. The PRT were only ever interested in my power, not my wellbeing or feelings." Kitsu says seriously.

After that line, Tecton took his phone back.

"New Wave was a popular movement back in the day. Just before the unwritten rules. Their whole thing was 'Capes without masks.' That if you wanted to play hero or villain, then you should take accountability for your actions." He explains. "They've stagnated in recent years. But their popularity is seeing something of a comeback with this latest exchange. Some of the higher ups don't think it'll last, but I can see the writing on the walls."

I'm not sure what to think about that. It sings to me on a certain level. But at the same time, what does that have to do with me?

"Why are you telling me this?" I ask.

"Gully, we both know that all you want, is to be a leader. And we both know the PRT won't ever give that to you." He says softly.

'I know, but to hear you of all people say it.' I think sadly.

It puts a sense of finality to it. Like, I could keep going, if only one person believed it was possible.

That one person just said it wasn't.

"But." He continues. "New Wave? They might have what you're looking for."

"Why are you telling me this?!" I snap, unable to hold down the boiling surge of emotions that've been piling up.

"Because, the PRT and the Wards are like a family to me. And I hate seeing any of you in pain." He says sternly. "Gully, you're not happy here. And honestly? I don't know if you ever will be. I just want you to know there are other options out there, it pains me to see you heartbroken all the time."

"So, you're saying I should quit? That I should throw away all these years of hardwork?!"

"Gully!" He yells.

We both stare at each other for a long time. By this point there's no one in the hall. They're all too scared of me to stick around.

"It kills me, every time. I want you to be happy, New Wave is recruiting. And after their debut of Kitsu, I can see a lot of Case 53's joining in the future. This is your chance." He explains softly.

I see where he's going. A team of people who I can relate to. And they'll need someone to lead all the new recruits. Especially if there's going to be a bunch of Case 53's.

But.

"What if they just treat me the same as everyone else?" I ask, getting a little choked up. "Kitsu is cute. I'm not."

"I'll pull some strings and keep your membership backlogged and on hiatus. You can return anytime you want. Until then." He says kindly and pulls out a card from his wallet.

"Use this to get you to Brockton Bay. After that, call me. There's about five grand on that card." He says and hands me a prepaid credit card.

He puts a hand up on my shoulder and I look down at him.

"Just remember. You're never alone, there will always be someone out there for you. Sometimes you just have to look." He says softly. "If you don't want to go. Then just keep the and spend it on whatever. Think of it as a gift."

I stand there, not knowing what to say as he walks off. So I say the only thing I can.

"Thank you!"

Sveta Karelia POV

.

Searching through the PHO I look through and find all the info I can on Kitsu.

She showed up on my feed in a video of her and her girlfriend at a signing event. Oh the way they blushed at each other was precious!

I found her wiki page, which was oddly scarce in regards to her actual powers. But it was there I learned she has the power to control biology and lacks a Manton Limit with it! And not only that, she's now an official member of New Wave, and the foster child of the Dallons. Who have an adopted daughter who is also a biokinetic.

Maybe they can help me? I can't contact Panacea. Her PHO account is blocked to messages.

But Kitsus' isn't!

I just finished sending a letter of introduction. Explaining that I'm a fellow Case 53 and would like to talk to her.

Maybe if I'm lucky she'll visit me and help me! I would give anything to just make it so I can walk outside again without endangering those around me.

*Kt*

"Sveta, your computer times up. It's time for your relaxation exercises." The kind voice of the nurse sounds out over the intercom.

"Okay." I say softly. "Let me log out real quick."

I move my tendrils deftly and log out before turning to the door.

'I just hope I can get a response soon.' I think to myself, but I don't dare to get my hopes up.

Dr. Noreen Wakeman POV

.

*Clang* *Clang* *Clang*

"Mom! Mom! Mom! Mom! Look at this! You gotta see this!"

'There goes my quiet afternoon of reading.' I think to my self in exasperation.

As my daughter comes rushing in, bursting through the door, I can't help sigh in exhaustion.

"Jenny, what have I said about running?" I say rhetorically.

She rushes up to me and holds out her tablet for me to see. She holds it there for me. Seeing as it's reinforced and weighs nearly twenty pounds.

She presses play and starts the video.

It's a New Wave charity panel.

'New Wave is still around?' I think in mild interest. 'You'd have thought they'd die out after what happened to Fleur.'

I stay silent the video plays on. Then I see what she wanted me to see.

The little vulpine girl. Kitsu as she announces herself. And I can guess as to why she would show me this.

With a sigh I fold my reading glasses and set them down with my book.

"Jenny dear, we've been over this. The world is a cruel place, and it treats those different with an extra cruelty." I remind her.

"But mooooooom~ everybody loves her! Look, she's just like me! She even got taken in like me!" She whines and goes to a bookmarked page on her tablet.

It's her Wiki.

"Jenny, you know those websites can't be trusted." I say with a scoff. "I'm not having this discussion again."

"But!"

"No buts! You're not ready." I stand firm.

"When will I be ready then!? I'm almost an adult! And I haven't been outside in almost two years!" She screams with a stomp, shaking the room.

"Jennifer Wakeman! You will not take that tone with me in my house!" I say and stand up.

It hurts me to see the look of pain on her face. But I couldn't bear the thought of the look she'd have when the world chews her up. To see that pure innocence crushed. It would kill me.

She lets out a few oily tears and stomps off, shaking the room as she leaves. She slams the door behind her, and I can already tell it's going to need replaced by splintering crack it made.

After I hear her stomps take her back to her room, I go ahead and fall back down into my chair.

"Am I doing this right?" I ask myself quietly.

Parenting is not how I saw myself spending my retirement.

.

.

Jenny Wakeman POV

.

"Stupid mom, stupid rules, stupid world." I mutter to myself as I pace around my room. "You're not ready."

I stop and stare at myself in the mirror on my dresser. My sky blue metallic hair, my shiny steel skin. My cobalt telescopic eyes.

I may look, different, but it can't be that bad! If hair dye would work I'm sure I'd be able to blend in with a crowd!

I look to my tablet that I'd thrown on my bed. And to the image of Kitsu. The number of inhuman differences between us are almost the same.

She has extended canines, I have shiny teeth. I have metallic hair, she has fox ears. I have telescopic eyes, she has cat eyes. I have metallic skin, she has a tail.

It's one to one! And people love her! They think she's adorable.

"No! No more!" I shout to myself. "If mom can't see that I'm ready, I'll show her I'm ready!" I resolve to myself.

And I know just where to go to do it!

Newter POV

.

Stretching as I stand up and make my way to the fridge. Opening it and grabbing the jug of milk, I look around to make sure no ones watching before unscrewing the cap. I go to drink it when-

*BAMF*

"Newt, you got to see this." Nightcrawler says as he pops in on top of the fridge.

He looks down at me excitedly before giving me a flat stare. Having caught me about to drink from the jug.

"Really?" He asks and raises a brow. "Get a glass you heathen."

*BAMF*

He pops out and back in behind me and is now on the counter.

"Remember what happened last time? Some of your spit got mixed in and left poor little Ellie in an episode." He says disappointingly.

I roll my eyes and turn around, placing the jug on the counter as I go to get a glass from the cabinet.

"Yeah I know. What'd you wanna show me?" I say as I turn around.

Walking over to meet him I see what he's trying to show me. It's a PHO thread on Kitsu. Apparently she's trending after she was debuted to be a member of New Wave.

"Huh, good for her. Kid deserves a break." I say absentmindedly.

"Not that!" He says, his excitement forcing his German accent to show through. "Look at the comments!"

Looking through I see it's just a bunch of fangirling and hero worshiping. And someone calling Kitsu a mascot for the Case 53's.

'I dunno about the other 53's. But I know I didn't vote for her.' I think sarcastically.

"Okay, I'm lost here. What am I looking for?" I ask as I drink my milk.

He looks back to his phone and facepalms.

"Agh! Wrong tab!" He says and shows me the phone again.

It's a tabloid page. And it's talking about New Waves inclusion of a Case 53. But the headline is what catches my eye.

(New Wave recruiting again?)

"Okay, that's interesting. But I don't see what's got you jumping around." I say.

"Don't you get it? The comments and the articles? Kitsu is a Case 53. And they don't care!" He says excitedly. "People are finally opening up to us!"

"You mean they're opening up to Case 53 heroes. Doesn't mean they'll accept us. And even then, they only accept her because she's cute. If it was Gregor you know they wouldn't be saying the same things." I point out.

I hate being the downer. But Nightcrawler has a habit of getting his head stuck in the clouds. And with the boss lady out on an errand run, and Gregor interviewing a new personal shopper. The role of straight man falls to me.

"You don't know that. Besides, maybe, we, could be heroes? Set an example, like Kitsu! We could sho-"

"We could what? Give up on everything we built here? Leave Gregor? Leave Ellie? Spit on everything Melanie's done for us?" I say seriously. "And besides that, we both have criminal records."

"So did Kitsu! And look at where she is now!" He points out.

"Kitsu is a preteen. You and I are late teens at best, young adults at worst. I doubt they'd be as forgiving." I say as I set my glass down. "Besides, we're villains. Do you really want to throw away everything we have here?"

"No, it's just. I'm, I'm tired Newt. Tired of hiding, tired of running around from city to city doing jobs. I want to go outside and not have to worry about people screaming and calling the PRT. I just thought, maybe." He trails off, looking to the side as he curls into himself on the counter.

"Look, Night, bro. I get it, I do. But our dye's been cast man. Not much we can do about it other than move forward. No point looking back." I say and grab the jug to put it back up.

"Heuchler." He spits out. "All you ever do is look back."

I turn back to him. And nearly flinch at the pointed glare he's sending me.

"What? Is it so wrong that I want to know who I am?" I ask defensively.

*BAMF*

"You mean who you were. It's been so many years, vas does it even matter anymore?" He says behind me.

'What the hell?!'

I swing around to confront him. Only to come face to face with him.

We stare at each other for a long moment before Night backs away.

"I'm sorry. I, got a little heated there." He says as he looks away. "I just, I think I need a nap."

"Night, bro-" I say to try and stop him.

*BAMF*

Damn.

*Click*

"Newter! Where's Nightcrawler? I need him to go pick someone up." I hear the boss lady say.

Turning to the entrance of the kitchen. I give her an flat look.

"You have shit timing." I say and pop the cap to the milk. Downing it as I walk to my room.

.

.

Nightcrawler POV

.

Swinging in my hammock, I can't help but reflect. Newter says not to look back. But that's all we ever do. Search for the past.

I'm grateful for all that Ms. Fitts has provided for us. This group has become a family to me. But we all yearn for something we don't have. In my case? I guess I'm just jealous of Kitsu. She found a family and gets accepted by the public.

*Knock* *Knock* *Knock*

"Nightcrawler! I need you to pick someone up! It's important!"

*BAMF*

I open the door and lean on the frame.

"Vas?" I ask.

"I know it's short notice, but I need you to pick up a Case 53 from Seattle Washington. She's homeless and it's only a matter of time before something happens." Melanie says quickly.

'Another Case 53? Wonder what her deal is.' I think idly.

"Alright, what's she look like? And when?" I ask.

We 53's tend to land in one of two categories. We're either lucky and get picked up by people who help us.

Or we run into trouble and wind up villains.

"Midday, tomorrow." She says. "And she's pink. That's all I can give you."

I stand there in disbelief. She knows I can only teleport where I can see. And that teleporting long distance takes effort.

"Alright, I'll get going right away." I say and turn to the window.

Looking out, I teleport to the tallest building. And from there pop to its roof.

I stand here for a moment in the early morning. Staring out at the sunset. I pull out my phone and look to the picture of Kitsus' smiling face.

If I bring the girl back to the Palanquin. She'd get a loving and supportive family. But she'll be stuck like me and the rest. Never allowed to walk outside freely again. She'll be labeled a villain without a choice.

But if she were to be dropped off with New Wave?

I may not be able to live a normal life. And neither will she. But I can at least ensure it's a life not stuck in the dark.

The rest will understand. And if they don't? Well.

*BAMF*

I'll deal with that when it comes.

Anthony Stark POV

Staring at the holographic monitor I can't help but fantasize over what could be.

It's been months since I was kidnapped and triggered. I managed to make it back to the states. But I keep getting that itching feeling. Like I need a cigarette. Only instead of smoking, I need to build. The suit I made had fallen apart. And it was a miracle I found myself as close to civilization as I did. Another day wandering the desert and I'd have died.

But that's besides the point. I need to build again. But I don't care for the politics the government plays. It's the whole reason I abstained. But that temptation is itching me from the inside out. And more often than not I find myself in my garage, staring at the machinery.

"New Wave huh?" I think as I look at the trending group.

'Might just be the answer.'

'Damnit!' I think as I stare at the video in front of me.

There goes any hope of getting Kitsu into the Empire.

Joining New Wave was one thing. They're mostly Aryan anyway. But becoming a member of the LGBT? My men would never be okay with her joining.

Not that I realistically ever thought she would. Not after how she said no the first time. But you miss a hundred percent of the shots you don't take. And Kitsu is the picture of Aryan heritage. It's just a shame she couldn't be swayed over.

The potential of a self trump is limitless.

"Oh well. At least Hookwolf will be happy." I say to no one in particular.

Kitsu POV

.

I've been running all around the downtown area after school let out. Chris had come back today and looked as though he just got laid by the girl of his dreams. Turns out that for the entire week he been locked up in his lab. Unwilling to leave and going through the PRT's supply of coffee.

When he came back today, he had given me two little clips. They look like slim hearing aids. He explained that they can run for a month without needing to be charged. Unless I connect the bluetooth feature to play music. Then they'll last a few days.

They hook around and clip to the outside base of my ears. They're nearly invisible there, though they are a little uncomfortable. Like when you have the tag of a shirt still on. You get used to it eventually, but every now and then, you move in a way that reminds you it's still there.

Back to now!

I've been zipping around and roof hopping all over. Simply enjoying being able to listen to music. I've been jumping up and nose diving to Aerosmith songs for the past ten minutes. Only to swerve as an aurora of lights carry me across the streets before I hit the ground.

The music has been really helping me with my illusions. It's just so much easier to picture things now!

*Brzzt*

I stop myself as I land on the roof and turn off my music.

Checking my phone I see it's Missy!

(On patrol. Wanna hang out?)-M

I can already imagine her blushing face and shy smile as she texted that.

(SURE! Where u at? :D)-K

(By Rosemary park, by a starbucks with Carlos)-M

That's about a minute from here for me.

Running and jumping along the rooftops I soon get close to the park. Though I'm not near the Starbucks. So I run around said park on the buildings that surround it till I spot the coffee shop. With a familiar red suited teen and adorable green dressed girl in front of it.

I focus my ears to hear what they're saying.

"So, no response?" Carlos says.

Missy shoots him a pouty glare.

"If there was, you'd know." She hisses.

I go ahead and drop down from the building, bending my knees with the fall. And speed over, dodging around the civilians, and glomp Missy.

"VISTA!" I say as I squeeze her.

"AAIIIAaagh!" She screams out. "Kitsu! Stop doing that!"

I nuzzle her side, rubbing my cheek against her as I take in her subtly sweet scent.

"Never! You're too cute when you're spooked." I say and lean up to kiss her cheek.

I miss a little and catch the side of her lips. Not quite a real kiss. But it's enough to freeze my girlfriend in place.

"Kitsu~" She whines softly. "We're in public. And I'm working."

"Didn't stop you." I say cheekily.

Though it's a false bravado as my face is burning as much as hers.

'Just a little more over and I'd have actually kissed her!' I think in a mix of anxiety and excitement.

"Well, you were right about me knowing." Carlos says awkwardly.

Which reminds me.

"Hey Aegis, real quick can I see your hand?" I ask.

He stares for second before answering with one eye cocked.

"Why?" He draws out.

"I wanna see inside you." I say with a smile.

He just stares at me and I hear Missy's heart slow down.

"What?" I ask.

"Um, can you clarify?" He asks.

"I want to use my biokinesis to look at your genetics and see if I can replicate any of it." I explain.

"Okay you see that, that's a lot less creepy and suggestive." He says and flips a few latches on the brace to remove the gauntlet.

I grab his hand and look in.

Looking around I find, nothing. Nothing at all. He's a basic bitch human. The only difference is his adrenal system is on. Like, at a constant state and staying out of his brain.

"What the heck?" I say, mildly upset. "I thought your body was filled with redundancies! Why can't I see anything!"

"Because I don't have redundancies, I develop them as needed. Once I'm healthy they go away." He says.

"Okay, sure." I say and let go of Missy. "How does that make sense?"

He just shrugs and puts his gauntlet back on.

'I'll just wait till you're Injured.' I think to myself. 'Then see what you're about.'

"Um, so Kitsu. Do you maybe, wanna get coffee?" Missy asks awkwardly.

"Pfft. I'm sorry, that had zero game." Carlos snorts.

I illusion a rock and throw it at him. He catches it flawlessly, but I wasn't aiming to hurt him.

"Hey! Only I get to tease her." I say and hug her arm. "Besides, had enough game for me! Yes Vista, I would like to get a coffee."

I stick my tongue out at Carlos and pull Missy into the Starbucks.

"Wait, I don't have any money on me." I say as I stop.

"Th-that's fine. I have a fund from the PRT to cover lunches while on patrol." Vista says.

I stand there, contemplating the ethics of it. On one hand, it's Vista's money. But on the other, it's the PRT's money.

"Are you sure? I can just head back home and grab some money." I say seriously.

"No it's fine. Besides, it resets at the end of the month so it's a use it or lose it kind of thing." She says with a shake of her head.

"Alright, you've convinced me." I say quickly.

She gives a little giggle and I nuzzle her arm. She has a cute laugh.

We make our way to the front where a barista looks down at us. She gains a look of recognition and puts her hands up to cover mouth as she squeals. She's Caucasian with short brown hair and brown eyes.

"Oh my gosh! I can't! I just, eeeee!" She squeals. "Can I please get a picture of you two? You two are just so cute together and my friends will never believe me if I don't!"

I just shrug, I enjoy the attention. Though looking over and up at Missy. I can tell she's not entirely comfortable with it.

"I'm okay with it if you are." I say softly.

"Fine, sure." She says after a little pause.

"We don't mind! But no flash. Seriously." I tell the lady, Clementine by her badge.

"Okay, real quick, I swear." She says and goes to take a picture.

Glancing up I see Missy is putting on a fake smile. So, I lean up and kiss her cheek as the lady takes the picture.

"Oh my god, that was perfect!" She squeaks out.

"She is, isn't she." I say and watch as Missy's blush further covers her skin.

'Revenge for the signing!' I think victoriously. 'You make me feel all fluttery and embarrassed, I make you feel all fluttery and embarrassed.'

"Um, I uh, I'll have a white chocolate macchiato, Iced." She stutters out.

"Salted caramel cappuccino." I say simply.

After paying we go to take our seats. It sounds like there's a street race going on outside. But Aegis can handle that.

"How about a booth?" I suggest.

"What about your tail?" Missy asks.

"Don't worry about it." I say with a wave and drag her to a window seat.

"Here, you go first." I say. She does so and slides in.

I slide in after her and bring my legs up to twist my body so that I lean on her and keep my tail free.

She squeaks awkwardly and just nuzzle up to her. Enjoying her adorable shyness.

"So, how was your day?" I ask.

"Huh?"

"Your day. Tell me about it." I repeat.

"Oh, there's not much to tell." She says with a shrug.

"But I wanna know!" I whine. "Tell me about yourself. You already know a lot about me. Now it's my turn!"

"W-well, I went to school. Had a few classes. Went home, and now here I am." She says unsurely.

"C'mon! There's gotta be more! Anything interesting happen? Anyone annoying who got on your nerves?" I prod. "

"Well, your picture is now in the LGBT's clubroom." She says with a blush.

'Okay?' I think to myself.

"Um, why? And if there'd be any LGBT capes on the wall. Why wouldn't it be Legend? Or Amy?" I ask.

"Well, we don't know who Legends husband is, much less have a picture of them together." She explains slowly.

'Why woul- oooooohh.'

"The picture is us at the signing isn't it?" I ask simply.

Just as she's about to say something.

"Vista and Kitsu!"

And as I'm about to get up and get our orders.

*Smash*

Aegis is flying through the window.

Instinctually enhancing my perception, I curl my tail up and around Missy and activate my zero knockback to protect her from the glass.

"What the heck Aegis?! You had one job!" I shout at him as he crashes into the counter.

'Better not have ruined my cappuccino.'

He gets up and out from the counter he smashed into. Looking not even winded.

"In my defense. He snuck up on me." Aegis says.

"Who?!" I ask angrily and look to the street.

Just in time to see a white haired guy stomp his boot on the table. Red tank top and red leather pants.

"None other than the missionary of cocaine himself. Feel the heat of ecstasy as you now have to contend with me. The electrifying SNOWFLAME!"

'What the fuck?'

Thomas "Coil" Calvert POV

This is, less than ideal.

Had I known that the fallout of waiting to see what Kitsu would do was going to lead to this? An influx of capes heading to the city for various reasons. I would've captured her when I had the chance and dropped her on another continent.

Now I have more factors to calculate and account for.

All the algorithms and previous reports of Kitsus' behavior suggested she'd have left the city by now. Instead she's here to stay and is drawing in capes to her by the handful.

Something needs to be done. And soon. But not too soon. First, the right moment needs to be found.

'Maybe another Fleur incident can put things back on track?' I think to myself before dashing the idea. 'No, that's already happened. If that was enough of a deterrent then New Wave wouldn't be making a comeback.'

What's needed is something, new. A new deterrent.

But what? The majority of individuals making their way over are Deviants. But-

"That's it!" I say to myself quietly.

'The public just need to be reminded of how monstrous, and dangerous they are. And there's a neat little Case 53 spotted in the Amazon that would be perfect!'

I press the intercom to ring up one of my men.

*Kt*

"What's needed?"

"Acquire any men with experience and expertise in poaching and jungle navigation. And use the supply card to procure electrically insulated equipment. The rest of the details will be given after said resources are acquired." I say lift my finger off the button.

It's a setback, an obstacle. But all obstacles can be overcome with enough time and resources.

Wade "Communication Guru" POV

.

One of the reasons I programed such a high end phone for Kitsu?

It acts a mobile keypoint, connecting to various cell towers and giving me backdoor access to them. And she recently just connected to a new device.

One that just so happens to have a peculiar backdoor already in place. Scouring the code, I discover that the device has a remote kill switch. Upon activation it'll overload the frequency dampener. Reversing it and blasting a high-pitched frequency.

Judging from the data? The decibels emitted would be enough to give someone instant tinnitus from across a room.

For Kitsu?! The pain such a thing could cause would leave her unconscious from the pain.

Feeling an uncomfortable amount of irritation, I go ahead and personally backtrack the connection.

"Damn, whoever made this code knows what they're doing."

!

"There we go." I say in satisfaction.

Looking through the data and schematics I can't keep the grin off of my face.

"Well well well, Armsy you've been a bad boy!"

'Kitsu, any and all debt you owe me is now and forever paid.' I think to myself as I look through the code of Armsmasters suit.

A/N

Vas means what. It's spelled was, but is pronounced v-ah-s. And heuchler is the male term for hypocrite.

A huge thanks to Sarah2cold. She helped me flesh this out and gave me a bunch of ideas on how to write this moving forward.

.

I have snowflame's dialogue bookmarked. It is not easy to recreate fluidly.

Seriously. That one line was rewritten three times.

QUESTIONS!

FOR NEWB

.

FOR KITSU

.

Akiralator: I forget with how cute and fluffy you are that you've killed people. How many?

Kitsu: I'unno. More than a hundred, less than a thousand? I genuinely never kept track.

.

Akiralator: I dare you to convince someone you're a cat, not a fox.

Kitsu: Some people already confuse me for a cat. No thanks.

.

RadChaos897: You and Missy are so cute!

Kitsu: Thanks! I have no clue what I'm doing! I'm just treating her like a normal friend, just with extra cuddles and kisses.

.

As always, leave a comment and tell me what you think! It helps me write and gives me ideas moving forward.
