Scene 1:
Sauna of the Thousand Sunny
Law leans back until his back touches the wall behind him, closes his eyes and sighs. Zoro sits diagonally across from him and looks at him.
Zoro smirks: So you did fall, huh?
Law: Hard.
Law claps his hands over his face and groans.
Law: How could this happen.
Zoro laughs quietly.
Law: Shut up.
Zoro: And what are you going to do now?
Law: Nothing. Why should I do anything?
Zoro: Because we're all leaving tomorrow?
Law: All the better.
Zoro: That's cowardly, isn't it?
Law: Then I'm a coward.
Silence follows. Zoro also leans back and closes his eye.
Zoro: If you don't do anything, we'll soon be enemies again.
Law: You don't believe that yourself. As if Mugiwara-ya would let that happen… Not even if I begged for it.
Zoro: He might not, but will she still trust you if you've been giving her the cold shoulder for the last few days?
Law: I don't even know if she noticed.
Zoro: You underestimate her. She's been on the run alone long enough to have learned to analyse her surroundings with the blink of an eye.
Law groans again and leans forward, opening his eyes and staring at Zoro.
Law: And what do you suggest I do, you smartass?
Zoro opens his eye and looks at Law: Give her something from you.
Law: WHAT? It couldn't be more cheesy, could it? Do you want me to make a heart and go pick roses?
Zoro: And I thought you were intelligent. A friendship gift that only she understands could be more. A special book perhaps? Come on, you're the only one who knows anything about her taste in books. Use your brain cells.
Law stares at the floorboards: Hmm...
Zoro closes his eye again and adds after a pause: And do it subtly. Means, do it when everyone's there. No one will think anything of it if you talk about books again.
Law: So I'll officially just make her an offer of friendship. And that's not cowardly?
Zoro smiles: It depends on the book. You can add a Vivre Card.
Law: Since when have you actually been such a pimp. And what do you do for yours?
Zoro: Mine?
Law: You're leaving tomorrow too.
Zoro becomes more serious: I spoke to her and made a few things clear. She wasn't happy about it.
Law looks at him questioningly, but Zoro keeps his eyes closed. Law leans back again.
Scene 2:
After dinner, dining room on the Thousand Sunny. All the Straw Hats are sitting in the room, some at the bar, others at the table. They are playing cards, reading, chatting and drinking coffee and tea. The door opens and Law, Bepo and Shachi come in.
Luffy: Traoro, hey, Traoro, do you want to play?
Law: Not me, but I'm sure these two do.
Law points behind him with his thumb. Bepo has stars in his eyes. He and Shachi sit down with the card players and are immediately engrossed in a discussion about the rules.
Sanji speaks from the kitchen, where he is drying dishes: Hoy, Traoro, coffee?
Law accepts the cup held out to him and thanks him with a nod of his head. He then turns round and walks to the end of the table to sit down in the empty seat next to Robin. She looks up from her book as he puts his cup down next to hers.
Law, doesn't look at Robin, but at his coffee cup: Hey.
Robin, looks at him a little surprised: Traoro. Is there anything I can do for you?
Law searches for words and curses Zoro for persuading him to do this. Then he reaches into his coat and pulls out a book with a small piece of white paper sticking out of it as a bookmark: You remember we talked about the history of Flevance.
Robin looks at him with increasing astonishment: I do.
Law: I thought you might be interested in this book.
Law passes the book, which he has been holding with both hands, to Robin and looks at her for the first time.
Robin stares first at him, then at the book with her eyes wide open.
Robin: Is that...? Traoro, that's... I can't accept that! That's the only book you have left from Flevance!
Law: If there's one person I can trust to handle a book properly, it's you. Bring it back to me when you're done with it.
He puts the book down on her open book, then stands up again.
Robin slowly catches herself and grabs his sleeve: Wait!
She pulls him down and he plops unelegantly back onto the chair.
Robin: Then... Just... At least let me give you something in return.
Robin crosses her hands in front of her chest and closes her eyes. A few seconds later, a hand opens the door while several hands appear one after the other and pass a book to each other until Robin picks it up.
Robin: As a token of my gratitude and trust, I would like to offer you this book. I know it comes with dangers to accept it, but I think with the bounty you already have, this book won't make much difference.
Now Law stares in amazement at the book offered to him and his mouth falls open. After a few seconds, he recovers and looks sternly at Robin.
Robin: That's just a copy. I made a few copies of this book when I came to the Straw Hats. I'd be delighted if you'd take it. Because that way I'll know that another copy exists should anything happen to our ship.
Law remains silent until he stands up and bows to her.
Law: Nico Robin, it's an honour.
Robin laughs quietly behind her hand.
Law takes his cup, drinks it in one go and, nodding his head, moves away from the table. He hands his empty cup to Sanji and leaves the room with long strides.
Luffy: Hoy, Traoro, are you leaving already? Don't you want to play cards?
Law waves him off, one hand already on the door: Not today.
Usopp: What do you mean, not today? You've never played cards with us before.
Law smirks and leaves the room.
Scene 3:
After Egghead. The Straw Hats are back on the Thousand Sunny along with the various Dr Vegapunks. They have shaken off the Marines for now and are on their way to Elbaf. They are just starting to relax when Nami rushes into the kitchen. There are several Straw Hats there, including Robin, who has just been handed a glass of juice by Sanji. Everyone looks at Nami.
Nami: Robin, there was this book on our cupboard and smoke is coming out of it. It's not on fire, but I think it's Traoro's book, what should I do with it?
Robin puts down her glass and reaches for the book with wide eyes. Zoro, who was dozing on the bench, opens his eye. Chopper and Luffy come rushing in behind Nami.
Luffy: Nami, what's wrong?
Robin opens the book. It falls open where the bookmark is. The bookmark seems to be slowly being eaten away by embers without damaging the pages of the book. Robin stares at the bookmark with her mouth open. Zoro stands up and looks at the book over Robin's shoulder.
Nami: I'm not sure, Robin's book is smoking. Robin, what's that? Why is this paper burning?
Luffy, with a serious face to Robin: Robin, whose Vivre Card is this?
Nami, Usopp and Chopper, astonished: Vivre Card?!
Robin still just stares open-mouthed at the book.
Zoro: That's Traoro's.
Robin looks at Zoro with wide eyes.
Luffy: Traoro? Crap.
Luffy turns to Nami: Nami, set a course for wherever the Vivre Card points. Franky, Jimbei, with Nami, now. Usopp, Brook, get the cannons ready. Chopper, make sure your first aid kit is in working order. Sanji, we need to eat, we need to gather strength.
Straw Hats run to the tasks mentioned by their captain. Luffy turns to Robin and sees that she is still staring open-mouthed at the open book.
Luffy: Robin... are you all right?
Zoro: I'll take care of her.
Vegapunk: What'th going on? Who'th Traoro?
Zoro: Trafalgar Law.
Vegapunk: Are you thtill allieth? My intel tellth me that the connection hath been thevered after you leffft Wano.
Zoro grabs Robin by the shoulders and leads her to a chair with gentle pressure. She closes the book and crosses her hands over it, hugging it to her chest. She looks confusedly at Zoro.
Zoro: Hoi, cook, she needs a cup of tea. Or a hot chocolate.
Robin realises she's shivering and suddenly feels cold.
Zoro: Wait a minute, I'll get you a pullover
Zoro disappears from the room with long strides. Sanji puts a cup of warm beverage on the table in front of Robin and grabs her shoulder. He looks at her, a little confused.
Sanji: Here Robin-chwan, drink this. Are you not feeling well? Can I do something for you?
Robin looks up at him with a confused expression in her eyes
Luffy to Vegapunk: We're no longer allies, but we're still friends. And if a friend needs our help, we'll be there.
Vegapunk: Okay, well then maybe we can help you get the thip ready to attack? I have a few ideath. Where are the cannonth?
Luffy and all the Vegapunks leave the dining room as Zoro comes back in with a jacket.
Zoro: Here Robin, put this on.
Sanji: In what depths did you dig up that jacket? I've never seen it before.
Sanji returns to the kitchen while Zoro puts the jacket over Robin's shoulders. Then he sits down next to her. She looks at him.
Robin, quietly: What's wrong with me? I don't understand why my body is so slow. And why am I so cold?
Zoro puts a hand on her shoulder and speaks calmly: Everything will be fine. We'll get him out of there. He's strong, he can do it. And the Hearts are not harmless. Drink this, it'll do you good. Everything will be fine.
Robin: Zoro! What. Is. Going. On. With. Me?
Zoro chuckles softly: I think you fell for him.
Robin looks at him in confusion. Then her eyes widen again in understanding and she buries her face in her hands and moans softly.
