Prompt: Vera Verto – [plot point] learning to become an Animagus
"Babe!" Harry shouted from his study upstairs. Daphne rolled her eyes, putting down her newspaper with a sigh. "I have an idea!"
"No!" She shouted back, grabbing her coffee from the small table next to her and chugging half of it. It had gotten cold just sitting out like that, but she didn't mind. Made it easier to drink.
"Hear me out!"
"Last time you said that I had purple hair!" She heard his feet stomping upstairs as he ran down to her. Daphne couldn't help but smile, hiding her grin behind her large pink cup.
"At least yours wasn't yellow! And besides, you loved your hair." Harry shot back, taking a seat next to her. "Anyways, hear me out."
Against her better judgement, Daphne placed her cup down.
"I'm listening."
"We become Animagus!" Harry said, grinning as if had just won the lottery. Daphne loved that smile. That's how he looked on their wedding day, and she hoped his smile never changed.
That idea however…
"How are we ever going to manage that?" Daphne said, confused but not surprised. Of course Harry would come up with a random idea like this. "And what made you think of it?"
"I was looking at that photo of my parents, and it made me think, did my mum ever get the chance to become an animagus? So now, I want to do it with you!" He reached out, grasping Daphne's hand and bringing it to his lips. "My beautiful wife."
"Harry-" Daphne paused as Harry looked at her, smiling the dopey smile he always wore when he looked at her, truly looked at her. Her heart melted. "Oh alright, how do we do this?"
"We eat this!" He pulled out a leaf.
"What the fuck?"
"Oh, not actually." Harry continued like everything was normal. "I do know we have to hold it under our tongues for a month though, without swallowing it."
"Harry, darling," Daphne cleared her throat. "Did you put any research into this?"
"Of course!" Harry exclaimed. "I wouldn't do something like this without research."
"Okay, just making sure." Daphne looked at the leaf, twisting it around. "What's after this?"
"I don't remember-"
"Merlin."
"I'm off to work, Harry!" Daphne called, flexing her tongue. She had had the leaf under her tongue for almost a month now, the new moon was very soon. She was excited, mostly to get rid of the sticking charm underneath her tongue.
"Coming!" Harry called from the kitchen where he was eating breakfast. Harry didn't have to go into the office until later that morning, so he was taking his time with breakfast. "Ah, shit!"
"What happened?" Daphne asked, mildly concerned. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine." Harry gave her a quick peck on the lips. "I just screwed up."
"What happened? Drop your plate again?"
"I swallowed the leaf."
"Again?!"
Harry Potter entered the Auror office, his footsteps echoing in the sterile, white-tiled hallway. He had come to check in on his case files and discuss recent leads with his colleagues. He smiled as he looked at his desk, staring at his wedding photo. Daphne looked ethereal. The couple danced in their photo, smiling at each other as they butted heads, only for Harry to spin her around. The dance started over again.
As Harry stood there, staring at his wife, a sense of calm fell over him. Then suddenly he felt a strange sensation in his body, starting at his toes. He glanced down at his toes, his shoes suddenly feeling odd. His head dipped to the side, suddenly much heavier than before.
He stumbled back, his head spinning, and he suddenly felt the world shift and blur around him. He wobbled, eyes closed as his four legs scuttled on the tile floor.
Wait.
What?!
Daphne was gonna be so excited!
"Harry- Woah!" Daphne said, stumbling back as Harry wrapped her in a big hug. She hadn't even made it through the fireplace yet!
"I have news!" Harry practically squealed. Daphne could feel her smile widening. She loved when Harry got all excited like this. It was usually over a quidditch match, or his new obsession, football, but she enjoyed listening anyway.
"What is it?" She asked, placing her files down.
"Watch!"
And suddenly a giant stag was in their living room.
"Harry! This is awesome!" She shouted, brushing her hand over his soft brown coat. It was so soft, almost as soft as his real hair. And his antlers were so big, so pretty, so powerful. Daphne rubbed them softly, enchanted. It made sense, Harry Potter being this regal, strong creature. Harry the Stag turned his head softly, huffing at her as she fawned over him.
Harry suddenly morphed out of his stag shape, returning to his normal human self as he grinned at her.
"What do you think?" He asked, bringing her in for a hug. Daphne squeezed tight.
"You're beautiful."
"Thanks to you," Harry said sweetly. "Come on, let's head to the kitchen, I already made dinner for us."
Daphne smiled, sappy, quickly following him. Her foot caught on the rug, and the woman fell, both hands out to brace herself.
"Merlin!" She heard Harry shout as she shook her head. "You're a horse!"
What?! Who did he think he was?
She stomped her foot. Except it wasn't a foot that stomped, it was a hoof.
Oh wow, she was a horse!
