Author's note: this is my first story, so I will accept any kind of criticism in order to improve.

Chapter 1: The Rokudaime Hokage

All the attendees nodded their heads in affirmation to the daimyo's words.

"Because I am greeting you through a screen, I would like you to give me a quick report on the situation in the village and what problems we need to address immediately," the daimyo spoke.

With a nod, shikaku nara cleared his throat and said, "Daimyo-sama, the village was completely destroyed, very few buildings are still standing, and our defenses are very vulnerable right now."

The daimyo and his delegates were shocked to hear these statements and a minute of silence filled the room, until shikaku intervened again, "Fortunately no civilians or shinobi died in the invasion thanks to the arrival of Naruto Uzumaki, as he somehow managed to defeat Pain, the leader of Akatsuki, and convince him to revive all those fallen in the invasion."

The daimyo and all his delegates were surprised by this news, and spirits were raised; "That is wonderful, these forecasts are very encouraging, surely with the entire population still standing the reconstruction of the village will be faster," said one of the delegates present, the others nodded their heads in affirmation with their words. "That's excellent," said the daimyo, "I will take care of increasing the budget so that the village returns as soon as possible and if any problems arise do not hesitate to talk to my delegates," everyone nodded to the daimyo's words showing their support for what he said.

"That's fine with me, daimyo-sama, but there are more important issues that we need to address," said Danzo, who had not spoken at the meeting so far.

"What do you mean by this, shimura-san?" The daimyo asks.

"Due to the invasion, the godaime hokage-sama is in a coma and with a poor prognosis, so it becomes a priority to choose a new hokage immediately," Danzo said.

"I see," cried the daimyo.

Shikaku frowned and narrowed his eyes towards danzo, he knew that he would try to run as a hokage, but he didn't think that he would do it so soon, he knows perfectly well that danzo is not one of those who talk without knowing or without having confidence that everything will go as he wants, because of this he was worried about the plan he was about to execute danzo.

"Now that we've gotten to the point and seeing that there's no other way, does anyone have in mind who could fill the position? The daimyo exclaimed.

"I think kakashi hatake would be a good fit for the job," said one of the daimyo's men; "Isn't he too young?" Asked another; "The fourth was even younger" said another delegate, "he has a great reputation and is quite capable for the position, not to mention that he was a student of the fourth Hokage" Shikaku interjected, "he seems to be the best choice" said the daimyo, but before continuing he was interrupted by Danzo who replied "with all due respect daimyo-sama I think Kakashi is a good shinobi but he is not suitable for the position, He has a history of mismanaging emotions and not to mention that under his care Konoha lost the last Uchiha," Homura and Koharu nodded at Danzo's claim showing their support; "I see, so if Kakashi is unfit, who do you think should take over the position Shimura-san?" The daimyo asked. Danzo smiled a little and cleared his throat, he was finally close to achieving his goal after so many years.

"Daimio-sama, I'm running for the position of hokage."

Naruto was lying on a stretcher inside one of the many tents that were set up in the village for temporary shelter, he was exhausted, hungry and had his thoughts on nagato's words about finding peace, he had wanted to go eat a good bowl of ramen, but the place had been damaged like the rest of the village, He sighed thinking about the current state of his village, but he smiled knowing that they were all alive, reconstruction work would soon begin, and he knew that the village would gradually return to what it was before.

All the attendees in the room showed their surprise at the statement of danzo, no one expected him to nominate himself and they let it be seen through their expressions; "Wow, I didn't expect this Shimura-san, why your candidacy for the position of Hokage?" The daimyo asks; "I am one of the most veteran Shinobi in this daimyo-sama village, my wisdom and experience would make the village a better place, I am also the most prepared to lead in a time of crisis like this" Danzo replied, inside he was smiling, he knew that his plan was about to bear fruit and he would finally be Hokage.

Shikaku rubbed the bridge of his nose, these were worrisome, he couldn't let danzo become a hokage, he would never forgive himself for such a man coming to power as long as he could avoid it, his head thought of all the names of possible candidates before he stopped at one, it would be very risky, he himself was not sure and knew it was a desperate option, But it was the boy or Danzo doing his thing, he gave a deep sigh before speaking, knowing that there was no other way.

"Daimio-sama," Shikaku called, "if I may, I think there is still a candidate to consider," he said; They all turned to look at Commander Jounin with intrigue; "And who would this candidate be?" The daimyo asks.

"It's Naruto Uzumaki," Shikaku said, seeing how everyone in the room looked at each other and couldn't believe what he was saying.

"Isn't he very young?" One delegate asks, "It's crazy," exclaimed another; The daimyo asked for silence from all the members of the room before speaking, "Please Shikaku, I want you to explain your reasons to me."

"Gladly," said Shikaku, "while I agree that Danzo is very capable of running the village and taking care of internal affairs, I think that his physical limitations certainly make him weaker to other kages, not only that, but Naruto is the strongest shinobi currently in our village and if rumors spread that he defeated the Akatsuki leader surely the other villages will not want to risk fighting With him, and if we take into account that not even the legendary Master Jiraiya or the infamous Kakashi of the Sharingan could handle Pain, I'm sure Naruto will have a very good reputation with other kages"; Shikaku took some time to see the audience in the room before resuming his speech; Another advantage would be the morale of the village, currently Naruto is the hero of the blade, he is the idol of the new generation and everyone is sure of his strength, both shinobi and civilians will feel safe and confident if their hero is the kage, they will probably wonder about how a 16 year old boy will be able to manage a village and his relations with allies, But I want to remind you that he was on the team that rescued the Kazekage, and he feels a great appreciation for Naruto, so our main ally will be more than happy to continue with the blade as teammates, and his camaraderie, determination, sincerity and ability to captivate people's hearts is something that is only found in a born leader, For this reason I think he will be the perfect candidate, although he needs to improve his manners and knowledge about the shinobi world and political movements it is nothing that cannot be taught with a little time, said that it seems to me that these are enough reasons for the boy to take the position considering the current state of the village.

The room fell into deep silence, everyone was looking at each other waiting for someone to speak, they knew it was a crazy idea, but shikaku had put irrefutable points on the boy and they didn't know what to think now.

Koharu took advantage of the silence and decided to speak, daimio-sama I must remind you that Naruto is still a genin and has never led a team. "It's also well known the boy's impulsiveness and lack of intellectual abilities," Homura said, backing his former teammate. "I must remember that due to his status as a jinchuriki, several of his instructors at the academy interrupted his learning curve, causing Naruto to become disinterested in studying and preferring other hobbies," Shikaku interjected.

The deliberations continued for a few minutes, as there was a lot of information and time was against them, there were strengths and weaknesses, but in fact there were more points in favor of the candidacy, so most of the delegates came to the same conclusion and nodded among themselves, and at that moment the daimyo decided to speak, "Who is the boy's sensei? The question slightly puzzled everyone, but Shikaku smiled and said, "Your sensei is Kakashi Hatake, and he was also trained by Jiraiya of the Sanin, not to mention that his father is Minato Namikaze, the fourth Hokage." All the emissaries and even the daimyo himself opened their eyes, the boy, the son of the legendary yellow lightning, also had a great track record of masters and seemed more and more the best option.

Danzo didn't show any emotion thanks to years of training, but inside he was furious with shikaku for how he was ruining his plan, he had made the boy look like a peerless genius and as the only option for the position of hokage, he knew from the daimyo's expressions that it would be difficult to make him change his mind without looking like someone obsessed with power, He knew his plan was over, but he wouldn't stay like this, he would keep planning and keep calm for as long as it took, he would let this go for the time being.

"It's decided" said the daimyo in a cheerful voice, but first I would like them to call the new hokage to give him the news personally, having said this quickly an anbu appeared in front of shikaku and with a gesture he went in search of the new hokage.

Naruto was about to fall asleep when he saw an anbu enter his tent, he was a little startled but quickly stood up and listened to the words he had to say to him. "Naruto uzumaki you are requested in the secret council room, your presence is required immediately," and with those words the anbu left without saying more.

Tobi was sitting on a tree branch thinking about the events of the day, pain died at the hands of the kyuuby's jinchuriki, this surprised him as he didn't think that the brat would be able to defeat pain but it didn't mean big problems for him, he would have to recover the rinnegan earlier than expected but there was no problem in that, He just had to find a new way to capture the Nine-Tails and hope that Kisame would arrive with the Eight-Tails. Tobi stared at the ground below him as a giant fly-catching plant appeared before him, "Do you have any information about who will be the new hokage zetsu? The masked man immediately asked; "The meeting isn't over yet, but Kakashi or Danzo will most likely get the job," Zetsu replied; "I see, I think Danzo will keep the position so I should take care of other matters, if you know anything else let me know," with that said, a distortion in the air swallowed the masked shinobi and disappeared leaving Zetsu alone, only for him to disappear into the earth.

Naruto was a little puzzled, he didn't know what they wanted him for and the anbu hadn't said anything about it, he put on his sandals, put on his overalls and left for the council, once there he opened the doors and found many unfamiliar faces, but he managed to see shikamaru's father and gave him a smile, He also saw the TV at the back of the room with the image of a middle-aged man wearing red robes and a big hat, he didn't have time to think about anything else as the man behind the screen spoke.

"Nice to meet you naruto, I am the daiomio of the land of fire and it is a pleasure to meet you, I heard what you did for the village and I must thank you for everything you did"; Naruto put on a nervous smile and scratched his neck, "Thank you very much Mr. Daimio, I just did my duty as a shinobi of this village"; "I see Naruto, I'm glad you think that way and are so loyal to the village," said the daimyo; "Thank you very much sir, but I would like to know the reason for my presence in this room," Naruto replied a little bewildered; "Of course, time is of no value at the moment so I will be direct with you, due to recent events we have had to choose a new Hokage," the daimyo said.

Naruto was shocked to hear this and felt a lump in his throat, he tensed up and his mind began to wander, was that what he was thinking?, not at all, it must be that they wanted an opinion from some shinobi on the subject, it must be that right?, why else would he be here?, his thoughts were interrupted when the daimyo continued.

"By the power granted to me and with the approval of this council, I appoint you, uzumaki naruto, as the rokudaime hokage of the leaf village."
