From then, the three decided to brainstorm on what they could do about money. As well as a place to live. Although with lack of history or any records on who they were, this proved to be rather difficult. They knew they needed to find some way to bring in cash without needing to worry about lack of social security or even birth certificates. A few times, the idea of doing tabletop duel monsters tournaments came up. Unsurprisingly, not everyone in this world could afford a regular duel disk. And on that note, Seto Kaiba's new and improved duel disk that he showed off against Aigami would be out of the question. Then Kevin had the idea of working for Kaiba Corporation… to which both Sam and Levi met with clear skepticism.
"Dude, what makes you think any of us would get a job working for Kaiba?" Levi asked, giving a bemused expression.
"Well in my case because of my Blue-Eyes deck?" Kevin says.
"Kevin, Kaiba would sooner rip your copies in half faster than he did with Yugi's grandpa." Sam says, pinching the temples of his nose.
"Not if we just tell him the truth." Kevin responded.
"Tell him the truth? You realize how crazy that would make us look?" Levi asked with a sweat drop.
"To anyone else, yes we'd look insane." Kevin nodded.
"We look insane to everyone on a daily basis." Levi cut in.
"That's besides the point." Kevin chuckled. "Point is though, Kaiba's probably one of the few people that would understand. The guy's fought ancient evils in shadow games, appeared in Egypt… found a way to go to the Pharaoh's world for God's sake! Us saying we're from another world is probably just another Tuesday for him at this point."
Levi just huffed a bit. "Alright, fine… but we're gonna have to at least ask around to find where Kaiba's building is."
"Can't be that hard to find." Sam said. "Isn't it like the biggest building in the city?"
"Literally just look for the big building with KC on it. It's not that hard." Kevin added.
"Alright, alright… let's start looking then." Levi nodded.
With that being said, the three with all their belongings started making their way through the city. However, contrary to what Kevin and Sam had said, the building was rather difficult to find with just how big the city was. And on top of that, when asking some people where the building was, they either laughed or just looked at them like they were clueless… to which, Levi had to hold Kevin back a few times so that he wouldn't he wouldn't try starting a fight with a few of them. "This is getting stupid." Kevin huffed as the three were walking down the sidewalk.
"Well I don't think people are gonna be very compliant after seeing you threaten to beat the shit out of someone for information." Levi mused. "You can duel like Kaiba but you have the temper of Joey Wheeler."
"Oh screw you!" Kevin retorted, causing Sam to laugh.
"What? It was half a compliment." Levi chuckled.
"Yeah, followed by an insult!" Kevin retorted again.
"You say that, but you gotta remember; Joey did get close to beating a few strong duelists." Sam added in. "Remember, if he didn't pass out in battle city, he totally would've beat Marik."
"Yeah and almost ended up with Ra." Levi nodded before pausing for a moment. "Thinking about it though, would Joey have even been able to use it though? He'd have to read the ancient text on the card, wouldn't he?"
"Yes but Yugi probably would've just told him what it said so Joey could write it down somewhere." Sam answered.
"Eh, good point… well by that logic, that'd mean anybody could summon them then." He says, looking into his deck box and pulling out his own copy of Ra. "...Wait, what?"
"What is it?" Kevin asked Levi.
"My copy of Ra. It has that ancient text on it now too!" Levi said, showing the card.
"What?" Kevin asked before he and Sam quickly looked in their own deck boxes and pulled out their copies of Ra, surprised to see that they both in fact had the same thing happen to their copies. "Are you serious?"
"Well I mean I guess it's not that big of a deal. The three of us basically have it memorized at this point." Sam says.
"This is true." Kevin nodded. "...Oh god! Now multiple real copies of the God cards exist in this world!"
"Could you not blurt that out like that?" Levi asked in a hush tone.
"You three are pretty loud, you know that?" The three suddenly heard behind them.
Turning around they noticed a young man who looked close to their age. With long dark hair and a white suit… who also seemed to be carrying a bag with food in it. "Wait, you look familiar." Levi spoke up first.
"I'd hope so. I'm Seto Kaiba's brother, Mokuba." The young man answered.
"Oh." Levi paused for a moment. "Wait, you heard us?" Levi asked.
"The whole freaking block could hear you!" Mokuba retorted. "But the reason I came over was because I could've sworn I heard all three of you saying you had copies of Ra. You couldn't possibly mean The Winged Dragon of Ra, right?"
"Yeah, all three of us have it." Kevin answered, rubbing the back of his head.
"Do you three realize how dangerous it is to try using counterfeit copies of the God cards!?" Mokuba snapped.
"But they aren't counterfeit!" Sam retorted. "Just look for yourself!" He says as he, Kevin and Levin all showed their copies of Ra.
"Look, only one real copy of Ra existed and it's been gone for a long time! So if you honestly think that–" Mokuba paused, looking at the cards for a moment. "...I still don't believe you, but I gotta say, whoever made these fakes definitely made them look authentic. Even the Egyptian text looks accurate… as far as I can tell anyways. Seto said he could read it, but I never could." He paused again for a moment before looking back up at the three. "Is this the only God card you three have?"
Levi chuckled nervously at that. "Funny thing about that. See, all three of us have 3 copies of each God card."
"Excuse me?" Mokuba asked in an unamused tone. "So let me get this straight; You're telling me that each of you have three copies of each God card… That would freaking mean that 9 copies of each exist! There's absolutely no way that's true!"
"If you don't believe us then why not bring us to your brother?" Levi asked.
"What?" Mokuba asked.
"Yeah, the three of us were looking to meet with him anyways." Sam responded.
"And if anyone can confirm the authenticity of these cards, it'd be him." Levi added.
Mokuba stared at them with a sweat drop running down his face before taking out his phone. He tapped on the screen a few times and held the phone to his ear to call someone. "Hey Seto, it's me. We've got a problem here… There's these three guys here looking for you." He paused for a moment, hearing his brother's response.. "Trust me, you're going to want to see these three." He pauses again to hear the response. "Eh… I wouldn't call them dangerous. They just look like teenagers to me… but it's the cards these three have that's bothering me… They each have a copy of the Winged Dragon of Ra and claim that they have the others too." He whispered and paused again, waiting for Seto's response. "It's hard to tell but to me they look pretty real to me." Mokuba paused one more time for Seto's response. "Great, I'll escort them right away. See you soon, big bro." Mokuba says before hanging up and looking back to the three. "Alright, my brother says he'll give you a few minutes to talk but wants to stress that this better not be a waste of his time."
"Trust us. This won't be a waste at all." Kevin smirked.
"So you got my name already. What are your names?" Mokuba asked.
"My name's Levi." Levi responded. "These are my two friends: Kevin and Sam."
"Well Levi, if everything you said is true, I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of you guys." Mokuba smirked. "Now come on, Seto's already waiting for us." He says, leading the way.
As they walked, they noticed they were approaching a limousine. "That's what you came in?" Levi asked.
"What? Did you think I walked?" Mokuba chuckled before the driver opened the back door for them. "Step inside, boys." The three friends stepped into the limousine before Mokuba did as well, closing the door afterward. "...You guys okay? You look pretty tired."
"We haven't really had any sleep yet since yesterday." Sam answered.
"Jeez, I know people like to celebrate New Years, but maybe you overdid it a bit." Mokuba exasperated.
"It wasn't really by choice." Kevin huffed.
"How would you not have a choice to sleep or not?" Mokuba mused.
"It's better we explain when we're with your brother." Levi answered.
The limo had started moving, and the three had opted to take a nap while they were waiting. While they were asleep, Mokuba couldn't help but glance at Levi's bag a few times. "I better at least make sure these guys are telling the truth…" Mokuba whispered before slowly reaching for Levi's bag and opening it up. "What the… what the heck is this thing supposed to be?" He says, pulling out Levi's Nintendo Switch. Turning it around he saw the name of the console on the back. "Nintendo Switch… Wait, Nintendo? I've never even heard of this thing."
"Nnnng… huh?" Levi asked, rubbing his eyes. "...You know, it's polite to ask before looking through someone's stuff."
"I had every right to look." Mokuba says, not bothered by Levi's sudden waking. "You didn't expect me to believe your word alone, did you? I had to make sure you didn't have anything dangerous on you. Which still remains to be seen. What is this thing?" He asks, holding up the switch. "I've never even heard of Nintendo Switch."
"It's just a video game console." Levi mused.
"Video game console? This thing?" Mokuba asked.
"Yeah, just press the power button on the top." Levi pointed out, before taking his bag back and pulling out his deck box. "Let me guess, these are what you were looking for, right?" He asked, showing Mokuba his three copies of each Egyptian God card.
"Well those along with any other card that might be interesting." Mokuba says, giving a skeptical look before turning on the Switch. The screen came to life, and Mokuba could only look at it wide-eyed. "Smash Bros. Ultimate? Pokémon Sword? Undertale? I've never heard of these games either. I know about Nintendo, but this Switch is totally new to me."
"Well you're not gonna believe what I say at face value so, why not just try it out?" Levi asks.
Mokuba just raises an eyebrow before looking back at the console, starting up Pokémon Sword. "...Huh? This is a Pokémon game? I've never seen a 3D version of the game… Mind if I…"
"Go ahead." Levi chuckled a bit, resting his head back again to get some more sleep.
Mokuba just stared at Levi in confusion. (Weird… I don't get how this guy can be so trusting of me. He acts like he's met me before.) Mokuba thought before turning his attention back to the game.
Other then the sound of buttons being pressed and the sound effects on the handheld console, the ride was mostly quiet the rest of the way. It didn't take much longer for the three friends to reach their destination: The Kaiba Corporation building. "Hey guys, we're here." Mokuba said, waking the three.
"Mmmmh… Five more minutes…" Kevin groaned, groggily sitting up. "Huh?" He asked, looking out the window and seeing the massive building. "Oh God we're actually here."
"Yeah, I just said that." Mokuba said, handing the console back to Levi. "Thanks by the way. That was pretty fun."
"No problem." Levi chuckled a bit, taking the console back and putting away all his stuff.
"You let him play your Switch?" Sam asked.
"It's just a game. It's no big deal." Levi shrugged before the four of them stepped out of the limo.
The three friends were being led inside by the young Kaiba, going straight for the elevator. Upon entering the elevator, Mokuba pressed the button, bringing the elevator to the top floor. "Just a fair warning by the way. Try not to upset my brother… he already sounded pretty annoyed at the thought of three random guys using the God cards."
"Oh it's more than just God cards we have." Kevin chuckled.
"...Should I be worried?" Mokuba mused, looking at Levi.
"Eh?" Levi shrugs, making Mokuba sweat drop again. "Don't worry, everything will be explained when we get there."
Mokuba just takes a deep breath. "Well we're here." he says, just before the elevator comes to a complete halt and opens. Looking in the room, the first thing they saw was Seto Kaiba sitting at his desk and looking at the three boys with an unamused expression plastered on his face.
"Oh God, it's really him… I can't believe this is happening." Sam says.
"Seto, this is Levi, Kevin, and Sam." Mokuba spoke up, walking out first. "They're the ones who say they have the God cards. Levi showed me all of his, but not these two yet."
"First things first." Seto spoke up. "The three of you; Show me the God cards."
"Y-yeah, sure." Levi nods as he takes his copies out; his friends do the same before they walk up to Seto's desk, showing him all the cards.
Seto only stared for a moment at all the copies of the cards, his eye twitching for a brief moment. "They look authentic enough. But really there's only one sure way to verify it."
"You mean with a duel I'm guessing." Levi answered.
"I recall a while back when a duelist tried using a fake God card in my tournament. And it didn't go well for them. In fact he almost lost his life entirely." He says, standing up and walking toward the three. "If you're confident about these being genuine, then I assume you wouldn't mind putting them to the test yourself."
"Oh!" Kevin spoke up. "I can do it!" He says, smirking eagerly.
"Oh, for the love of…" Sam groaned, pinching the temples of his nose.
"You sure, man?" Levi asked, Kevin.
"Oh, 100%." Kevin smirked deviously. "I have just the deck I want to use against him."
Levi stared at Kevin for a moment before going wide-eyed. "Please tell me you're not going to use that deck against him."
"Oh I totally am." Kevin smirks.
"It doesn't matter which of you duels me." Seto says, going onto the elevator. "Let's just make this quick. And if I find out this has been a waste of my time, I'll make sure you regret it."
"It won't be." Kevin says, confidently going into the elevator as well, followed by Sam who was just rubbing his temples at this point.
"I seriously hope your friend knows what he's getting himself into." Mokuba huffs before he and Levi join them on the elevator as well.
"I'm sure he does." Levi says. "I'm just hoping he doesn't overdo it."
"Huh?" Mokuba asked with a raised eyebrow.
"You'll see what I mean." Levi sweat dropped.
Hey guys. I apologize for the delay in this chapter. Ironically I had caught Covid and I had to deal with that for a little while. But I hope this chapter was at least worth the wait. The next chapter we'll be going into the first duel! Seto Kaiba Vs Kevin. Stay tuned!
