Sorry guys about the slow update, I've been taking time to work on school stuff because my parents were getting upset about my grades... Also, I was watching Twilight earlier tonight, and my nine-year-old brother decided to join me. He's heard my parents and I talk about Jacob and Edward, so halfway through the movie he just bursts out saying "I like Jason better than Edward Toollen." I burst out laughing and for the rest of the night I made fun of him about it. XD XD

Once the screaming died down, I found the courage to get up and look around the room. The one, small piece of hope that I found was a window. The room was high up, but I could probably jump down onto the roof of the first floor (Hoping all went well) and hopefully jump down from there. I just had to find the right time (and the courage) to do it. Hopefully, since the vampires had just eaten, I would have at least a day before they turned me. The thought terrified me, and I knew I had to escape. I couldn't stay here for the rest of my life (or death), feasting off of humans and threatening vampires who broke the rules. I just had to wait until dark. If anyone outside saw a teen girl jump out of a window, who knew what they would do? Even after it was dark, I still had to wait because a few people still roamed the streets. Finally, after what felt like hours, it was safe to go. My original plan had been to kick the window, but it was too high up for me to reach with my foot. Instead, I pulled off my jacket and wrapped it around my hand to protect it from the glass. Closing my eyes so I wouldn't get glass in them, I punched the glass as hard as I could, and it shattered loudly. A rush of cold air washed into the room as I hoisted myself up onto the windowsill. Miraculously, my hand was fine, but I realized too late that there were guards outside my door. I could hear them fumbling to unlock the door, and I jumped swiftly out the window. It wasn't far from the window to the roof below, and I landed within seconds, nearly toppling right off! Moving as quickly as I could, I scrambled to the edge where I quickly came across another problem. The roof was much higher off the ground than I had originally anticipated. It would be incredibly risky jumping from there. Quickly, I glanced around looking for another way down! I didn't see one, but I did see that Caius (who turned out to be my guard) was gaining on me. Even if I jumped, he would follow me, uninjured because he was a vampire. I shot a blast of fire behind me. It wouldn't do anything to Cauis because he was a vampire, but maybe if it caught the roof on fire, he would be distracted with putting it out. "Come on Demi, just jump!" I muttered to myself. All I had to do was jump and then let gravity do its work. I spotted a flower bed, and jumped, landing in a roll in the dirt. It wasn't bad, but it still hurt. I jumped to my feet and took off in a dead sprint. I wasn't quite fast enough.

Caius caught up to me easily, gripping my arm tightly as I struggled pointlessly. There was no escape. my only choice was to give up and let myself be dragged back to that dark, dreary room, and surely trying to escape would just make them change me all the sooner! "Hey! Let her go!" Growled a voice I had never heard before. I looked up to see the most gorgeous boy I had ever seen. He was a vampire, but his eyes were gold instead of red, although he wasn't a Cullen. He had dirty blond hair sticking up every which way, but in a cute, messy way I liked. Something about his presence made me feel safe, and I wasn't sure why. "you." Caius growled. "Me." He said agreeably. He stepped in closer. "I said, let her go." He snarled, more fiercely this time. "Never! She belongs to the Volturi now." Caius hissed. Well, let me tell you there is almost nothing I hate more than people thinking they can just tell me what to do, so obviously I had to say something! "Um, no, I don't! I belong to no one! I'm my own person, not some piece of land or property you guys can fight over!" They both ignored me, glaring daggers at each other like this was some kind of grand showdown. Maybe it was. Maybe they had beef that I didn't know about. Or maybe they were both just overreacting idiotic vampires. An: That line though... a true work of art. "You know, you could probably fight better if you put me down," I told Caius. He growled indecisively, knowing I was right. "Stay put!" He instructed me, setting me down by the wall. This was possibly the dumbest move I had ever seen anyone make, as I just had to wait until he was distracted with his fight to make a run for it. Suddenly, vines erupted from underneath Caius, wrapping around him and trapping him in place. The boy hurried over to me. "Are you okay?" He asked me. I stared at him. "Did you just teleport a giant plant?" He chuckled. "Yes, I did. That's my power." "Plant teleportation?" I blinked at him. "Plant manipulation, yes." He explained. "It's Demetria, right?" He asked. "Demi, actually." I wrinkled my nose. "How would you know that, anyways? What are you doing here?" I asked, suddenly suspicious. "I'm Everett." He held out his hand for me to shake. I gave him a look. He chuckled again. "Your sister sent me." My eyes widened. "You know Bella?" I asked, surprised. Maybe he was a Cullen. "Not really, but I know Alice. She told me the situation and asked if I could go help you out. Speaking of which, let's get out of here before Caius escapes from those vines." Everett suggested. "Let's." I agreed.

We hurried through the dark cold streets as fast as we could. My teeth were chattering, as I had lost my jacket when I punched the window. "Are you cold?" Everett asked. "A- a l- little," I admitted. Without hesitation, Everett pulled off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders. "Th- thank you." As Everett tried to find his car, I began to realize how tired I was. I'd had an exhausting day and I hadn't slept much in the past few days. Eventually, I started slanting off to the side as I tried to walk. Walking grew harder, and harder.

Everett's POV:

As we walked, Demi started to list off to the side, and I realized how tired she probably was. She had surely had a very stressful day, not to mention it was well past midnight. The third time she nearly walked right into a lamp post, I scooped her up bridal style and began to carry her. Demi let out a sleepy complaint, but she was asleep within minutes. I then realized something very interesting. Demi talked in her sleep! At first, it was very funny and entertaining, listening to her mumble about random nonsense, but the dream soon changed. First Demi began to twitch restlessly in my arms, as though she might be running from something in her dream. Then she spoke. "Please." She whispered. "Please, Bella, don't!" She begged. "Please! Bella, please, don't do it!" She sounded desperate. "Stop! Please!" I knew she was only sleep-talking, but it was still a little unnerving. "All my fault!" She said suddenly. "Horrible sister, my fault, my fault!" Demi whimpered. I felt a strange urge to hug her to me and not let go. Suddenly, her brown eyes flew open, filled with terror. Then she saw me and seemed to relax. In an instant, she was asleep again. A few minutes later, I finally found the car and managed to get Demi on the passenger side. After checking to make sure no Volturi were around, I started the engine and drove off.

Demi's POV:

I woke up with the sun shining brightly in my face. Everett was drumming his fingers on the steering wheel with his window shade up to prevent him from sparkling in the early morning sun. I stretched, nearly waking him in the face. "Sorry," I yawned. All of a sudden, I realized how hungry I was. I hadn't eaten in three whole days! Had it really been that long? Embarrassingly, my stomach growled loudly. "You hungry?" Everett asked. "Yeah," I admitted, embarrassed. "We can stop for food." In a few minutes, we were walking into a small restaurant and sitting down. "So, how do you know the Cullen's?" I asked, trying to make conversation. "I met Alice and Jasper when they were looking for Carlisle and Esme. I helped them, they helped me, and we've kept in touch ever since." He explained. "What about your coven?" I asked. Everett frowned. "They're all either- you know what, it doesn't matter." He blurted. "Sorry," I whispered. "How do you know the Cullen's?" He asked, changing the subject. "Well, Edward is Bella's mate and sisters stick together so I kind of got dragged into this whole mess right along with her." I sighed, leaning back in my chair a little too hard. Suddenly, the chair tipped over backward, hitting the ground with a loud thump. Every head in the restaurant turned my way. I managed to keep it together until they were all distracted again before I burst out laughing. Everett laughed too, and the sound was like music. "I thought Bella was the clumsy one." He joked. "Shut up!" The conversation was much more light-hearted after that, and we left the restaurant laughing.

On the drive, a thought suddenly occurred to me. "Everett," I asked. "Yeah?" "Why aren't we taking a plane?" I asked. "Well, based on what Alice told me, I assumed you would maybe rather not, so we're gonna drive for as much of the time as we can so the flight is as short as possible." I carefully didn't make eye contact. "My power is hard to control when I get emotional, and I've been practicing for a lot longer than you have." "It's harder when you're nervous because you're thousands of feet off of the ground and you don't like heights," I mumbled. "Understandable." He nodded. "So she told you then, about my- about what I can do?" I asked. "Briefly," Everett admitted. "I would like to see it though. I've never heard of anything like it." I froze. "You... want to see it?" I blinked. "Absolutely." I was startled by this. "Um- okay. Not in here though." "Well, of course not in here!" Everett rolled his eyes. Several minutes later, he had pulled into a trashy old parking lot and was getting out of the car. There was a forest behind it and he led me in so no one would be able to see us. "Are you sure we should be doing this in a forest? There's a lot of flammable stuff in here." I waved my hands around, indicating the trees and other plants. "I'm sure you can control it. And if worst comes to worst, I can put it out easily." I still wasn't so sure about this, but I nodded anyway. "Show me." Everett prompted. I really didn't want to, but I took a deep breath and clenched my teeth together in concentration. In a few moments, I could feel myself changing, my teeth sharpening, my nails lengthening and sharpening, and when I opened my eyes, I saw the red. Everett's eyes widened. Well, if he thought I was a freak now, it was on him, he had asked for this. Cupping my hands together, I concentrated, and a few moments later, I had a small fire dancing in my palms. "Woah." Everett breathed. "That's so cool! Does it burn you?" I shrugged. "Yeah, but it's not as bad as it would be if I were normal." Everett stared into the flames, mesmerized. "I wonder..." He mused, and then reached forward and gently scooped the fire out of my hands. The fire became a little bit brighter, glowing a warm gold color. I'd never known something could be so beautiful. "You changed it!" I cried. To see what would happen, I took the fire back into my own hands. It stayed gold. "Weird," Everett stated. "Does it usually do that?" I shook my head. "No other vampire has ever touched it before." I shrugged. "Wait..." I thought back to that awful night. The one with that very first Vampire, and Jay... Surely the vampire had touched the fire, but there had been no gold flames. "What is it?" Everett asked, noticing the look on my face. I shook my head again. "It- it's nothing. It's weird that the fire did that!" I said, trying to sound cheerful. Everett looked unconvinced, but he didn't push me on the subject. With a shrug, I blew out the few flames remaining. With a sigh, I sat down on a log, trying not to get caught up in the memories. Just then, a vine slithered towards me like a curious snake and began to playfully poke at my legs. "Everett." I groaned. He laughed. "Wait, watch this" he cried, and the tree nearest me started vibrating. Leaves showered down on me as if it were snowing. I looked up at the leaves falling down. "Woah-" I started to say until a leaf ended up in my mouth. "Everett!" I shrieked, spitting it out. He just laughed at me. I tried to glare at him, but eventually, I cracked and started laughing too. "You know, you're hair can probably still burn," I added casually. Everett froze at the smirk on my face as I lit the tips of my fingers on fire. I fell off of the stump in laughter at the look on his face. "I'm joking!" I gasped, rolling around in the leaves as I laughed and laughed at him. It wasn't long until the vines came for me, wrapping me up and holding me still as I gasped for breath.

The next few days were full of laughter, smiles, and weird questions as we tried to entertain ourselves on the long drive. "Do you think a hot dog is a sandwich?" "Definitely, and why are you asking questions about food, you can't even eat it!" Everett shrugged. "Just curious on your opinion." "What's the weirdest dream you ever had?" "I once dreamed I was a toaster. It was weird, and you can't sleep either!" "Why does that matter, I just want to know you're answers!" "Because it's not fair to interrogate me on questions I can't answer," I explained, as thought this was the most obvious thing in the world. "Wait, I have a good one!" I said. "Who is someone you truly despise?" Everett thought for a moment. "No one." He said finally. "no one?!" I asked, startled. "I mean, I have people who I strongly dislike, but I don't really hate anyone's guts, or wish they didn't exist or anything." "But no one? You don't ever wish you could get revenge on someone, or wish you could go back in time and shout at them? No one?!" Everett shook his head. "No, why? Do you?" I clenched my jaw, and suddenly he looked interested. "Who is it?!" He asked curiously. "No one important," I muttered, glaring out the window and thinking dark thoughts about Edward Cullen. Most of them including things Bella would strongly disapprove of, and most of them including lots of fire. I felt a little guilty as I imagined what Bella would think if she knew what I was thinking. Everything was okay until one day when he asked the exact wrong question. "Who's Jay?" He asked one morning during another session of rapid-fire questions. I stiffened. "How do you know about Jay?" I asked, my guard instantly going up. "You were talking about him in your sleep. I just wondered who he was." He shrugged. "Why does it matter?" I snapped. "Chill, if you don't want to talk about it, don't." He said, but 'chill' wasn't exactly in my vocabulary for emotions. "Well, maybe you shouldn't ask such personal questions! It's none of your business anyway!" "Okay, sorry." He tried to laugh, but it came out all wrong. Why do you still care? A voice in my head asked me. Jay is ancient history, and remember, this is the precise reason you lost him. Because you let your temper consume you instead of giving him a second chance. Well, that was a cheerful thought! Not. But it was true. I took a deep breath. "Do you really want to know?" I sighed. Everett looked surprised, but he nodded. "Fine." I snapped. "He's my ex." "Oh." There was some strange emotion in Everett's voice that I couldn't read. He stayed quiet for a while after that, but I was too busy with the feeling that was taking over me to worry about it. It felt wonderful, like freedom. And I was finally sure of one thing. I was done mourning Jay. AN: Lol Everett got jealous XD

When we finally arrived at the airport, I felt disappointed. I wished I could stay with Everett for longer, but I missed Bella too, and I still needed to thank Alice for looking after Bella and for sending Everett. When we arrived in Forks, I wasn't surprised to see Alice waiting for us, beaming, with Bella and (ugh) Edward beside her. Why did he even come anyway? As soon as she saw me, Bella ran forward and hugged me. "Demi!" She cried. "I'm so glad you're okay! I was sure they'd have turned you by now! Oh Demi I was so scared! Don't ever do that again! EVER!" She sobbed. I hugged her back, happier than I'd ever been in my life. Bella was back to normal. When she finally let go, I turned to Alice. "Thanks, for- for sending Everett. I'd never have gotten out on my own. And for, um, watching out for Bella and stuff." I said awkwardly. To my surprise, Alice hugged me too. "Of course! You're my sister now too!" She said brightly. I wasn't a big fan of physical contact with most people, but I owed Alice. I owed her my life, and probably Bella's too. "Well, I should probably get going," Everett said. "You're leaving?" I blinked at him, trying to hide my disappointment. "I don't live here." He pointed out. "You don't have a coven," I stated. "Come with us," Alice suggested. "Carlisle won't mind!" I held my breath, looking at Everett hopefully. He looked hesitant but- "Okay." He sighed. My face brightened. "Great, let's go!" Alice cheered. I'd forgotten about Edward entirely until I accidentally walked into him. I looked at him reproachfully, the way my Arizona friend's cat would look at me. "So. You decided to come back." I stated, keeping the poison out of my voice for Bella's sake. "We are." He agreed. I continued to glare at him for the majority of the ride home. When we got there, he opened the door for Bella. I rolled my eyes. Bella was perfectly capable of opening a door. When the four of us walked in, Charlie was waiting. "Who are you?!" He asked Everett, a little rudely. "This is Everett." I butted in. Charlie gave me a strange look. "We met him in New York." Alice 'explained'. Charlie nodded and then turned to me so suddenly that I jumped. "DEMITRIA SWAN! WHAT WHERE YOU THINKING!" He yelled. "YOU CAN'T JUST RUN OFF LIKE THAT SO SUDDENLY! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW WORRIED I'VE BEEN! DO YOU KNOW HOW STUPID THAT WAS OF YOU? WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY FOR YOURSELF DEMITRIA?" This was followed by a long pause. "HUH?" He snapped. "WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY DEMITRIA?" He waited impatiently through another long pause. He probably expected me to stare at the ground and mumble apologies, but I wasn't my sister. Instead, I looked him straight in the eyes and said, "It's Demi." My audience burst out laughing, and Charlie just stared at me in surprise. "I'm gonna go take a shower," I mumbled after a long pause.

After I had showered and changed into clean clothes I went looking for Bella and found her in her room. (Technically it was my room too, but for some reason, I couldn't stop thinking of it as Bella's room) Edward was in there too, and they seemed to be having a moment. Well, this is awkward. I thought. Silently, I backed up and then approached the room again being sure to make enough noise to notify them I was coming. This time when I entered the room, they looked up. "Bella," I said quietly. "I need to talk to you. Alone." I gave Edward a meaningful look, and he exited the room, closing the door behind him. "I'll be at my house." He said to Bella before leaving. Even though I was sure he knew what I wanted to talk about, I still didn't want him in there. "Bella," I started. She sighed as though she already knew what I was going to talk about. "I don't like this." "Don't like what?" Bella asked. "I don't like you acting like nothing ever happened at all! I don't understand how you can pretend that nothing happened! After what he did to you, how can you trust him? How can you love him?" I burst out. "Demi, you don't understand-" "I know I don't! I'm asking for you to make me understand!" "It's not something I can just make you understand! It's more complicated than you realize!" Bella snapped. I'd never seen her get angry before! Usually, she stayed quiet and let people push her around to keep the peace. I didn't like it. I was the one who was supposed to get mad, not Bella! She was always so sweet and polite to everyone, and seeing her angry bothered me somehow. Then why are you trying to rial her up against Edward? Asked a voice in my head. I tried my best to ignore it. "It doesn't seem all that complicated to me!" I snapped back. Bella thought for a moment. "Imagine if I did something that really hurt you, and then a few months later, I come back saying how sorry I am, and begging you to forgive me. What would you do then?" Bella asked, doing her best to remain calm. I thought about that for a moment, not saying that I could hardly imagine Bella doing anything horrible. "That's different!" I finally snapped. "I don't see how," Bella said cooly. "You're my sister, so I'd have to forgive you! That's how it works! He's just an idiot b!tch of a boyfriend, so you break up with him and find someone who won't throw away the best thing he'll ever have in his life." I explained. "Demi, you know he's more than that to me." Bella's calm was beginning to irritate me. If she cared so much, then why didn't she yell at me about how I didn't understand, how she didn't care what I thought, anything! I tugged at the roots of my hair, a stressed habit I have. "Argh, argh, argh!" I growled. "Demi-" She started, but I didn't give her time to finish. "He doesn't deserve you!" I snapped. "He doesn't deserve anyone!" "Demi, that's horrible! Don't say that!" Bella begged, starting to cry. That made me start to cry too, and I reached out to hug her, to say I was sorry, but she pulled away. "Bella... I- I just don't want to see you hurt again." I whispered. "Let me worry about that!" Bella snapped. "How can you just forgive him like that?! What he did was horrible!" "How could you stay so angry at someone? Everyone makes mistakes, he was doing what he thought was best!" Bella contradicted. "I don't understand you!" "Well, I don't understand you!" She shouted back. With that she left, storming out of the room. A few moments later, I heard the front door slam. She had gone to see Edward. I was home alone. I collapsed onto the bed, crying. I didn't like fighting with Bella. It felt wrong in a hundred different ways. We were supposed to support each other and love each other, not fight and make each other cry! "My, my, my." A strange voice said. I jerked upright, coming face to face with an unfamiliar vampire. "Who are you, and how did you get in here?!" I demanded, trying to hide the fact that I had been crying. What if she was a Voulturi, and she had come to get me back? But I had never seen her before! She had red curly hair and a kind of dangerous energy. She smiled menacingly at me, her black eyes glinting. I was in for trouble.
