Sidenote: Sorry if there was any confusion with yesterday's update. I had a missing chapter that I just noticed, so I had to upload it and move it to the right spot. That issue is now corrected. Enjoy the story

The sun had started to rise over the horizon. The ruins of the cube lay across the horizon. The numerous demons that it used to inhabit have long since fled or have passed, leaving the place barren and lifeless all across Ishgar. The ruins of FACES scattered the land. Mavis sighed as she turned to look at the fairy heart. "In the end, we won," she moaned as her body started to heal itself, "But I wonder," she looked away.

"At what cost."

Tartaros arc finale: The Dragonborn

Weisslogia and Skiadrum landed as the members of Fairy Tail and their allies walked up to see them. "There were thousands of those FACE things," Romeo said

"Yeah, and those dragons destroyed them all," Macao told him

"I don't understand," Sting said as he walked up to his former mentor, "I thought I," he looked away, "I thought I killed you, I held your heart in my hands," he said, the memory coming to his mind, "I thought you were gone forever."

"Skiadrum," Rogue asked, "what is the meaning of this."

"Please forgive me, Sting," Weisslogia said

"Like my old friend, we gave you the memory of killing a dragon to make you stronger," Skiadrum explained. "Unlike the other dragon slayer, you could never consume dragon blood. An alternate method we found was to implant the memory of killing Dagon so you can unlock more of your strength," he explained, "In truth, our bodies ceased to function four hundred years ago."

"What," Sting asked

"In that time, Acnologia completed a spell that ripped our souls from our body," Weisslogia explained, "it severely weakened our bodies; however, Grandeeny found a way to restore our power by sealing ourselves inside dragon slayers."

"It was a symbiotic relationship that allowed us to give power to you and give us back our power," Skiadrum said. "Please understand it was the only way we had to survive, which is why we were in hiding for all these years," Skiadrum looked up, "but not even the dragons of Ishgar could best him, but let it be known they fought from the brink of death."

"When you tell tales of this day." Weisslogia asked, "Do not let it sully the four dragons of Ishgar." he said, "Their love for the earth and all its creatures transcended even dragons that fought for humanity."

Natsu sat in front of the dead body of his father, tears running down his face as he fell to the ground. "Dad," Natsu whispered, "I'm so sorry. You gave us a job, and we failed," he cried as he looked to the ground for years. He had wanted his father back. And when he finally did, he lost him forever. "There is so much I need to show you; I can read and write," Natsu cried. "I've made the best friends and even found a family I could call my own."

Next to him, Gajeel looked at his father's remains, the tears he had been holding back finally breaking through "god damn it," Gajeel shouted, "you should have stayed pout," he said. "We could have," Gajeel stopped. "I know I wasn't the best kid around," Gajeel said, "so I can't get mad at you for leaving me again." Gajeel cried, "I don't hate you, though; I wanted to show you the man I become. I wanted to show that I grew and took your words to heart," Gajeel said. "That I finally found my purpose," he cried. "So I need you to get up 'cause we still have so much to talk about, Dad."

Wendy has since curled into a ball next to her mother, trying to feel her warmth again, tears running down her face. "Please, Mom," she cried, "get up," she said, "please don't leave me again; I still need to show you what I've done," Wendy said. "I've gotten so strong. I've become the best healer in Ishgar, and I can even sleep without my night light now," she smiled. "Please, Mom, you can't go yet; we still need to do things together."

Meredy had been frozen since it happened; she had yet to move her eyes looking at her mother's dead body. So many emotions ran through her head as she finally fell to her knees; the reality finally set in. "No," Meredy whispered. "No, you can't be gone," she said. "I haven't," Meredy said. "I haven't earned redemption yet," Meredy said. "I haven't made up for what I've done." she said again, "I couldn't look you in the eyes," Meredy said, "I've done so many horrible things, and I don't want that to be the last thing you know about me." she cried "I'm better and I'm changing I wanted you to see the person that I'd become" she called "and not the monster that I was made."

"There's so much I want to tell you," they all said together, "so please, you can't leave me just yet," they all cried behind. Happy, Lily, Carla, and Rossello watched as their friends mourned over their parents' deaths. Carla moved but was stopped by Lily, who shook his head.

"Give them time," Lily said, "right now, they need to be alone."

"Aye," Happy said

"There is so much I wish to say to you, Sting," Weisslogia said, "but we do not have the time," he smiled, "so I'll have to settle for a few short words," he admitted "you've grown into a strong and capable wizard surpassing all my hopes for you," he said, "and I know you will grow into a fine leader, my one regret is that I won't be able to see the strong leader that you will become."

"I," Sting stopped, looking to the ground—a smile formed on his face. "Thank you, Weisslogia," Sting smiled. "I promise I'll honor your memory and legacy from now on."

"I know you will, my boy," Weisslogia said, "and young Yukino," he asked, getting the girl's attention, "please watch after my student."

"I will, sir," Yukino said

"Skiadrum," Rogue said, "I."

"It's okay, Rogue," Skiadrum said. "Your magic is dark, yes," he smiled, "but I know that it will be you who will bring it back to the light," he smiled. "Great friends surround you. Who I know will only make you stronger," he said, "and I couldn't be prouder of you."

"Thank you," Rogue said, tears running down his face

"Come on," Sting said, "let's see them off," he smiled, "with our heads held high."

"We will," Rogue said, "and we will keep moving forward," Rogue said. "I just want to say," Rogue said, "thank you for everything."

Weisslogia and Skiadrum rose to the sky. "Thank you, humans. It warms my heart to know that we can part with friendship," Weisslogia said, "the age of dragons has ended now. The world is yours to protect."

"Over four hundred years ago, there was a pact made between our kinds," Skiadrum said, "even though we must leave you to know, I promise that we, the dragon, are still watching over you."

"No, you can't be gone," Natsu whispered as their bodies started disappearing. "Please."

"Come back," Wendy cried.

"cut it out with the damn water works will ya" Igneel's voice called out

"I told you what to do when you felt like this," Hyōka's voice called again

"Don't tell me you forgot." Metalicana's voice called

"No," Meredy said

"Then," Grandeeny said, "get on your feet and keep going."

"Okay," Gajeel said as they all stood up, tears streaming down their faces.

"I was with you every step of the way, Natsu, " Igneel said, "and nothing has made me prouder than seeing what you've done." he told his son, "You've gone beyond any hopes. That I've had for you, lead them well."

"I'm proud of the man that stands before me," Metlicana said, "You have nothing to prove to me, Gajeel because I'm proud to call you my son." Gajeel started to get up

"The road before you is long and hard, Wendy," Grandeeney said, "but know you have the strength to walk it," she said, "know that I will love you always."

"Meredy, I know the path you walked was shrouded in darkness," Hyōka said, "that you've done things that you now regret even more now that you know the truth," Hyōka said, "but that doesn't change what you mean to me, my dear," Hyōka said "you are my daughter and no matter what path you choose no matter who you become," she said, "I will always love you."

"You kids now hold the mantle of dragons of Ishgar," Igneel said to all of them, "and as such, you are now the protectors of this land. It's a heavy weight to put on your shoulders, but I've seen that you all have the strength to do it," he said, "I know that you will succeed where we failed," Igneel said

"Know that we always live in your new hearts," Igneel, Hyōka, Metlicana, and Grandeeny said in unison. "Now, show us the fire in your bellies."

[## dragon slayer ost ##]

"We'll try," Natsu said as he wiped his tears. "We'll keep living."

"We'll work even harder," Gajeel said

"We'll get even stronger," Wendy shouted

"And we'll keep fighting," Meredy shouted

"And one day," they all said in unison, "we'll beat Acnologia," they all screamed.

"That's the way," Igneel said

"We will be watching over you when that day comes," Grandeeny said

"I know you can do it," Metlicana said

"And I know you'll make us proud," Hyōka said

[## Sad battle ost##]

'It's been two weeks since the war with Tartaros ended, and Magnolia is slowly starting to rebuild; the fairy pub has been reduced to rubble, but Mavis, as always, tells us that it is merely a place and, like so many times before, we can rebuild, and from the destruction here the FACES devastated cities across the entire continent, there's no telling how long it will take to rebuild, but what cuts the deepest are the scars that we can't see.'

Elfman walked to Mavis, who had been looking over the ruins of the fairy pub. "Master, I," he looked away. "I'm so sorry," he said with tears, "if I had been stronger than maybe."

"It's no fault of your own," Mavis told him. "You did all you could. I know that Elfman."

"But I still destroyed our home," he said

"This is just a place," Mavis said. "Magnolia is not a place," she smiled at him. "It's a people, my son," she looked back, "and its people are still thriving, and we will rebuild from the ashes of this tragedy. We will grow even stronger."

"I," Elfman stopped, "okay, thank you, master."

In the hospital, the members of the Thunder Legion started to make their slow recovery as Evergreen finally started to wake. Looking around as Freed walked up to her, "Thank goodness," he said

"Good to see you awake, Ever," Bickslow said, "all we're waiting for now is Laxus."

"What happened," Evergreen asked.

"It's all thanks to Cosmos, apparently," he explained as she started to sit up, looking around. "She fought that demon and got his blood so Porlyusica could make a cure," he explained. "Now they're giving out to all. The others who were affected by the bane particles," he said, "it is having a wondrous effect." he looked down at his old friend, "but Laxus."

"Guy couldn't get more reckless if he tried," Bickslow said

"I doubt he'll ever grow out of it," Freed said, "After all, he is master's grandson."

"Now, that's the truth," Evergreen laughed. "I miss him."

"So do I," Freed said, "but Tartaros got its due," he said, "so now our master can rest in peace; I just hope Laxus can feel at ease too."

"Don't worry," Bickslow said. "I know he'll pull through," he said, "though we should check in on Cana."

"She's fine," Freed said, "she was in here earlier before the two of you woke up along with Elfman, but she dragged him to the fairy pub."

"Elfman was here," Evergreen said

"According to her, once he recovered, " Freed said, "he never left your side."

"What a man," Evergreen whispered

"What was that?" Bickslow teased

"Shut it, you," Evergreen screamed

"Man, you guys are loud," Laxus muttered as he sat up. "Can't a guy nap in peace."

"Laxus," they all cried as they hugged him, making him smile as he hugged his friends back.

"SO, how are you doing," Cana asked as she sat Lucy next to a tree

"Cana, I told you I'm," she stopped when Cana reached an arm around her, smiling at her. "Come on, Mavis gave all of Fairy Tail the time off," she said. "You guys took on all nine of the demon gates," she said, "not to mention you took on all of Tartaros by yourself, and you never told us how you got the cube to crash."

"I," Lucy stopped that conversation coming back to her mind, "I summoned the celestial spirit king, and he brought down the cube and freed you all."

"I see," Cana said, "that's awesome, Lucy." She looked at her. "I don't like that look."

"I had to break a key," Lucy said, "not just any key." Lucy then pulled out Aquarius's broken key. "I had to break her key," she said

"Lucy," Cana whispered, "I'm sorry."

"I'll be fine," she said, "if I'm being honest, I'm more worried about Natsu," she said, "and Wendy."

"I saw them last night," Cana said. "I went to see Natsu, but the other dragon slayer was there too."

"You sound disappointed," Lucy laughed.

"I wanted to drown in my sorrow with my good friend. Is that so much to ask," Cana laughed. "But it was cool," she said, "they told stories about their time with their parents the entire time," Cana explained.

"I guess," Lucy said

"You don't have to worry too much," a voice called. They turned to see Erza walking up to them. "Happy, Carla, Lily, and Rossello are with them." she said, "and besides, I know them. If anyone can bounce back, it's them."

"Yeah, I guess," Lucy said. "How are you faring, Erza," Lucy asked

"I'll survive," Erza said, Kagura coming in behind her. "My sense has finally returned to normal," she said

"Master wanted us to walk around," Kagura noted, "She's with Mavis right now."

"In any case," Erza said, "I'm glad that we all made it through this," Erza said, "though I wouldn't say unscathed."

"But hey, it will only make us stronger, right," Lucy said

"Yeah, that's the spirit," Cana said

"Hey Lucy," a voice called. They looked to see Yukino, followed by Sting. "You wanted to see me?" Lucy nodded as she stood up, pulling out something. "What is this"

"Someone wanted me to give it to you," Lucy said it was Angel, though she didn't know why, she asked her to do it. She seemed so sad when she did it." Yukino looked over the letter before a word caught her attention.

"For my little angel."

"Sister," Yukino whispered, "this is from me," she stopped as she opened the letter and looked over it. As she slowly started to read, everyone stopped.

"Hey, I hope you're doing well, eating, writing; you've gotten into magic, and from what I heard, you're quite good at it, and you're in a guild, too. I hope they're treating you well, of course. I know you have at least one friend you can trust, and I'm glad it's Lucy. We have a history, but I can't get into that; I know you are looking for me, and I'm sorry I've been gone for so long. We can't be together, not yet; I've done things, got involved in things that I can't get you involved in, but I promise one day I will find you, and when I do, you'll get the biggest hug; love your sister."

"Lucy," Yukino muttered as tears appeared on her face, "where did you get this letter."

"I" Yukino," Lucy said as she brought her in for a hug. "I'm sorry," she said

"Please, you have to tell me," she cried. "I have to find her," she cried

"Yukino's sister," Erza muttered

"Who is she," Kagura asked

"Angel of the Oracion sies," she said, getting a shocked look from her. "She's like you," Erza said, "She survived that raid and was separated,"

"I see," Kagura said as they went up to Yukino. He had broken down

"Hey, you'll see her again," Sting said, trying to comfort his friend

"Come on, Yukino, stop crying," Lector asked as he hugged them. Angel watched the exchange, looking away

"Forgive me, sister," she whispered as she started to leave

"You're not going to say anything," Midnight asked

"No," Angel said

"Not yet."

Natsu sighed as he leaned back. Meredy stood next to him as they watched Wendy finishing touches on her mother's grave; next to it were three more, each reading a different name. Igneel, Metlicana, and Hyōka. They decided this place, which they call home, to be their final resting place and a way for their souls to rest. Wendy sighed as she went to stand next to Gajeel.

"Are you guys okay?" Lily asked finally.

"We'll be fine," Natsu answered, "How are the four of you doing."

"We'll be okay," Happy said, "but we're more worried about you guys."

"No choice but to keep moving forward," Meredy said, "you don't have to come with if you don't want to."

"Where you go, we go," Carla said

"Yeah, that's our promise to each other," Rossello said, "We are in this together no matter what."

"Alright," Natsu said, "let's get started."

"Aye"

Deep in the land of Isvan, Gray sat alone by a newly decorated memorial that now had both his father's and his mother's names on it. He sighed as he stared at it. Until he heard footsteps behind him. Looking back, he says to Juvia, walking up to him, "Hey, sorry for interrupting."

"Juvia," Gray asked, "why did you follow me out here."

"I'm sorry," Juvia said, "but I had to cause; you deserve to know the truth," Juvia said. "It was me," she said, "the necromancer that was controlling your father," Juvia said, "I was the one who beat him," she admitted as Gray looked at her in shock. "Please understand that I did cause I," Juvia looked away. "I love you, and I'd do anything for you," she said as Gray approached her.

"It was you," Gray shouted as he felt tears come to his face. "You were the one who," he stopped as he fell into her arms. "Thank you," he whispered as tears appeared on Juvia's face.

"Thank you"

"Hey, Sting and Rogue are back," a guild member shouted

"So are Yukino, Rufus, Lector, and Frosh," another one said

"And our venture was fruitful, for we brought someone home tonight," as Rufus stepped to the side, showing Minerva, who was now back in her human appearance

"Hey, it's Minerva," Ogra cheered. "Oh yeah, welcome back," he screamed as she smiled as the entire guild surrounded her. Tears appeared in her eyes

"I'm home," Minerva whispered, a smile coming to her face

"holy crap, she's crying," a guild member said, "you think hell's frozen over yet."

"Guys, stop embarrassing her," Yukino shouted.

"Hey, Mira," Lucy asked. "Have you seen Natsu," she asked. The girl turned, tears on her face, as she handed her a letter. "Man, what's with all the letters?" she whispered as she looked over it. "They what?" Lucy screamed, dropping the note out of anger.

"Lucy," Erza said, "what's wrong."

"Do they have any idea what that would do to us?" Lucy screamed as she started to pace around. Erza picked up the letter.

"Dear fairy tail family," Erza started, "by the time you get this, it's already too late. We're long gone, so don't try to come after us; the four of us have decided to go on a little training trip. Don't worry about us yet. We'll be back in a year or so, but for now, this is goodbye." Erza had to look over the letter one more time

"And you just let them leave," Lucy shouted.

"I didn't know," Mira said. "Mavis was the one who gave me the letter." She looked into the distance where Mavis was sitting. "It was Natsu's choice." she said, "and I have no choice but to respect it."

"There's nothing we can do, Lucy," Erza said as she sat the letter down

"I know, but," Lucy said, "we need him to," she said as Erza brought her in for a hug. "Did they even think about what leaving would do to us?" she cried as her friend held her in her arms.

"We understand that this is hard, but this is how it has to be; know that no matter what, you are our family; we know you're strong and can handle anything. This war proved that, but this is our mission. And we have to do it alone; we will return to you. Cause our home is with you, but know this: no matter how far the four of us travel or where we go."

"We are forever looking your way."

To be continued

Thus, the netherworld Saga ends, and the dragon slayers have left fairy tail behind as they train for the coming darkness that Zeref wants to bring and take down the black dragon Acnologia. Now I'm going. Life is getting pretty crowded, so it might be a while before I update again. It's funny cause the series went on hiatus after this arc, but anyway, I hope you all enjoyed the story so far. Please tell me what you think, and I'll see you all next time.

Zeref smiled as he leaned back into his chair. Everything went accordingly. The only minor hiccup was that he couldn't secure Mard Geer, a shame. That demon had potential; however, the hell's core he made might be helpful. 'Then again, I could always re-work him.' he then looked back to the book that sat on the table, a smile going on his face. 'his purpose was to see how far you had come, you and the other dragon slayers" Zeref laughed 'now that his mission is complete I can re-create him to serve my goals" he then sat down the book "so go ahead Natsu try and surpass me, or should I say" he looked at the book one more time.

"Etherious Natsu Dragneel"

Next time: the adventure continues
