Chapter 9
1 LY outside Cyrannus System
Naval Auxiliary Ship Atlis CIC
Colonel Marton had the three ships that made up this command rendezvous about 1 light year outside the Cyrannus System. This far out the Cyrannus system is nothing more than 4 bright lights but still home to everyone. It had been 6 days since the Cylon attack. Hopefully there is some remaining government or organized resistance to coordinate with. Failing that they had a list of scrap yards and smaller civilian ship yards to try to get some supplies.
Marton wishes that they could have brought the Chiron with them. Then this half ass "plan" that he came up with would be someone else's problem. But more he wished he didn't need to bring the Herse with them. The Herse was a Postal ship but not the regular type of postal ship. A planet with a billion people makes a lot of letters and packages for the other 11 planets. The Postal Service is the cheapest if not fastest way to send cards and other things that aren't a priority. But this usually means for cost savings it takes a day or two for your letter to get to another planet even if the actual transit time is instantaneous. The Herse and it's sister ships were for the times when the message or items needed to be sent within a very short time period.
"Case Orange" while the name wasn't known to many the basic idea that if the Colonies got overwhelmed by the Cylons what the Navy ships that escaped would do was something that people discussed. That the orders ended up being "go to the local government and do what you can" was the kind of thing that Marton had learned to expect from the Navy and government. No one ever thought that the Cylons could overwhelm the Colonies much less in a single day so there was no secret rendezvous location with some mothballed ships and a mountain of ammunition. Or at least if there was the Chiron didn't have that information in it's records. So trying to see what we can grab.
Problem was that the Naval Bases are the obvious places for the Cylons to hit. The CPS does have it's own supply yards and depots that might have useful supplies and showing up in civilian ships with a few Raptors and saying "we are the Navy gives us your stuff" might take more time than they could afford. Captain Odom though does have a CPS ship and is a high (well medium high) ranking Officer in the CPS. The Herse is small at just over 4 times the length of a Raptor and it's all "engines and a very small cargo hull" design was even by civilian standards vulnerable to damage makes it a asset that needs to be protected when in the System.
Then there is Carl Maxon. His previous experience with civilian ship building companies especially Illumini and attempts to buy grey market weaponry might be useful. Or they might get the Governor's son killed. Mainly it's frakking annoying to have civilians as part of his "crew" but they don't have enough Navy people to do much more than to take care of the ships and Raptors they have. If they do find useable but abandoned ships they will need their skills to get any such ships back to the Chiron and it's fleet.
"Herse and all Raptors this is Atlis Actual. Stay sharp and keep an eye out" said Colonel Marton. Marton wishes he could go but he would just be a person sitting in the Raptor causing more delays that anything else. With a response the small ship and 4 smaller Raptors blinked out of existence.

The various shipping facilities and related needs for the CPS and private shipping companies had all been attacked. Likely because of the small Libran SDF base that was put there to keep an eye on such things (even Libran would only allow so much smuggling and tax evasion). While not a huge group of facilities it was their current primary location. There were other ships that had been found but so far all destroyed.
"Sir I am picking up a faint traces of a cargo ship" said Ensign Laura Wysohi (Turtle)
"Herse keep back we are picking up a blip of something" said LT. Geri Casar (Silk). "Slider" was keeping an eye out for the Herse and if nothing else the Herse is one of the few ships able to jump as fast as a Raptor.
Turning towards the new heading "Silk" hoped it wasn't yet another destroyed Colonial Mover or Grayson Inc. ship. The ship appeared to a CeeMart ship that was close to an asteroid. The CeeMart ship did look like it was drifting but had no noticeable damage. This might be the first good luck of the day.
"Colonial Raptor this is CeeMart 264 requesting assistance" said a voice over the radio.
Talking with Captain Lindon his story was that the CeeMart 264 had just completed filling it's hold to refill the CeeMart store on the Scorpia Shipyards and was minutes away from docking when the Cylons attacked. Due to either luck or indifference of the Cylons since a cargo ship is a much less juicy of a target than the over 30 warships sitting dead to rights the 264 was able to escape jumping to the planet Thanatos. His hope was to stay there until the situation was fixed. There was a "hold in place" general broadcast followed by a broadcast that the Cylons had ignored President Adar's surrender. They waited for a few days and then decided to see if they could find help. The destroyed Libran SDF and shipping facilities left the 264 with no other plan so they "drifted" until they figured out a plan. Captain Lindon and his 4 other crewmembers were willing to jump to the rendezvous point to talk to the Colonel. Seeing little point of keeping the Herse he sent them as well. Two Raptors would making checking the remainder of the Acheron Belt and Thanatos faster.

1 LY outside Cyrannus System
Naval Auxiliary Ship Atlis CIC
Colonel Marton went over the reports from the Raptors. The first of the four of the systems in the Cyrannus System had been surveyed. Silk and Slider had luckily found a cargo ship with some useful supplies. That ship had just jumped out during the attacks on the Scorpia Shipyards might at least provide some much needed information regarding the Cylon numbers and capabilities. Getting the CeeMart 264 back to the Chiron would be challenging as this design is very "short legged" and would require multiple jumps. That is a later problem.
Matchbox and Sliders information was as feared Libran, Scorpia, and Sagitarron where if not everyone was dead on those planets they were weeks away from dying or living in a bunker avoiding putting out any notice. The Scorpia Yard and all it's attached scrapyards, fleet storage, fuel depots, ammo, and other things that were both more efficient and "safer" to keep in one spot ended up being anything but that. The Cylons had not only destroyed everything from what "Wombat" had been able to scan there was a very heavy Cylon presence of 2 Basestars and over 100 Raiders actively patrolling. That makes being able to scoop up any ammo or spare Vipers from a destroyed Battlestar very risky.
Outside of the Scorpia Yards the Helios Gamma System was the lightest industrialized and populated in the Colonies. This is possibly why Cylon presence was light in the remainder of the Gamma System. Nothing else of use had been found. The Raptors are getting their maintenance while their flight crews are resting up for another day of seeing what is probably going to be another destroyed solar system. Marton decided to turn in for the night.

Author Notes
.
This chapter is the first of what is going on with the Cyrannus System. Not much happened but there is a lot of info that will matter for later chapters.
Thank you all for reading. Any questions or comments are appreciated.
