Day 134
Maxon's Respite Council Chambers (meeting room B)
Population 4532

Carl was waiting for his turn to give his status report on possible locations for the Fleet to move to. So far this had been the same boring BS that he did not miss after he was able to leave the Council. Then Councilor Nisus stood up trying to look "determined" or something. Like Nisus thought this would be some historically important thing. Both himself and LT Gavin who got voluntold to do the weekly meeting (the more senior officers said they were too busy AKA these meeting are boring) both sat up straighter as it looked like something was going to happen.

"The people of the Bream were looking at starving to death due to the actions of Colonial Military forces. We need to prioritize the needs of the people rather than adding to the power of the military" said Councilor Nisus. "People of the Council I find the current "priorities" of Commander Jasper to be unconscionable. The refit of the Minx should be given top priority."

Tomas Decat had warned them that Nisus would try something like this. However this was beyond what everyone had expected. People looked shocked or outright pissed. LT Gavin almost said something but came to his senses remembering he is here to answer only a very limited agreed to set up questions. Councilor Krystis looked even more pissed than he always did but said nothing. The one person who did react out loud and most surprisingly was Councilor Kalss.

"Councilor Nisus. Turning a cargo ship into a hydroponics while complicated is not really the issue. You are suggesting that we hold our other 2 projects one of which is turning the Bantum into a passenger ship which would help alleviate the crowding on your ship just to have an extra trickle of food before the election" said Councilor Kalss.

The election was set on day 180. The Azeban would be completed a few days before that. The Minx would be growing food in small amounts around day 200 and in full around day 250. The Bantum would be able to move people in to their new ship around day 220. The Azeban would be a very good "look what I did" for Governor Maxon and would be completed just before the election. That food was going to be limited for the next 4 months did cause some grumbling but most were OK with less fruit after they found another 862 people. However if they stopped the other two projects the first few crops (almost certainly more lentils but you know "food") would be grown on one of Councilor Nisus ships because "he cares about the people" just before the election and that the Azeban would be completed after the election (and when there could possibly be another Governor) would be just a crazy coincidence.

From their interactions before the Cylon attack and afterwards Carl thought of Kalss as a "calm one" explaining what was possible and keeping everyone more or less on focus. However it makes sense the people on the Badger had to listen the radio signals of ships being hunted down by the Cylons and the Colonies being bombed. Dying ships, dying people, dying planets made for a tough 20 days and any attempt to decrease their defense for of all things an election pushed her to be very "impolite." Especially as speeding up the Bantum would actually do something but was not be pushed by Councilor Nisus as it would possibly hurt his cause with the people of the Bream. Make them less crowded and miserable and maybe Captain Nisus would not be as much their "savior". 'It's just do dumb' thought Carl.

An hour later Carl realized it wasn't dumb. Well it was but the plan was actually pretty smart. Somehow in less than a week Nisus had figured out that Councilor Torin (head of security) and Councilor Andre (legal) were unhappy or at least willing to follow a different leader if it gave them more power. With the obvious if unfair example of the Perseus being untrustworthy then increasing the government's power both legally and with more actual security forces does make some sense if it wasn't a massive waste of time. The Cylons are an existential threat and that military now makes up over 10% of the population means that the Colonial Military and Commander Jasper would always have a very powerful presence. Plus most people were grateful (for as long as this would last) that the Chiron had saved them from dying. However it's possible that given the hope of change (even if change can be bad) is better than "you get to mine tyleum until you die". When Governor Maxon had been the tie breaker and stayed with the current plan and timeframe Councilors Nisus had announced that he was forming the Liberal Party with Pual Andre as his Vice Governor. Vice Governor was in the first (and admittedly abrupt) election and was Decat's current job as the runner up. There had been no talk of having a ticket run for governor.

The Bream with it's unpleasant past regarding the Perseus and being a passenger liner traveling from Aerilon to Canceron had far less trained "Spacers". Carl had spent over half his life living on a space ship but did not want to see come skill based "caste" system even if he and his daughters would be on top of this. Problem was his mother. Carl knew she meant well but she could be "prickly" and possibly (very possibly) say something stupid. Not everyone wanted to be a miner or ship mechanic for the rest of their lives (especially the newer people who are starting to realize they would very slowly gain seniority with everyone stuck in place) and any comments (hopefully her Virgon disdain for "Deltans" would be kept under wraps) could cause what Carl (and others) think of as a person who is playing politics for their own personal gain not due to any true beliefs to win the election. Again the whole thing is "smart but dumb" and mainly just a waste of time.

Carl realized they needed a "Plan" quickly.

Baseship Rho 11

"Remember when you said this would this would be over in short order" asked the Number Six.

Leonard Dyo responded "well "Sister" I do remember when we were looking for the 4 Guardian ships. That those 4 turned out to be at least 7 along with a much larger base than we expected was an unpleasant surprise." Dyo and Armani never used the "Brother" or "Sister" unless they were being sarcastic. The Guardians were supposed to have 4 ships. This was proven wrong when two "Gemini" ships had been found and 4 Baseships and their Raiders had jumped to destroy them. This was a trap as 5 more Geminis then jumped in. Both sides ended up losing 3 of their ships It took another 50 days and 20 more Baseships but their base and 3 of their 4 (assuming the Guardians didn't have even more ships) had been found and destroyed. This time no Baseships had been lost (just 547 Raiders). The Guardian Base had been boarded by Centurions and an IL series was captured.

This IL series said his name was Moloch and was willing (as all IL series had been) to talk in depth about anything as long as it could be made about themselves. Moloch claimed that they hated the Biocylons due to them betraying them. Dyo had heard the IL series had been retired as the Biocylons were superior. Dyo could admit this might be looked at differently by the units being retired. The IL series had grabbed the first Hybrid who also had reasons for not trusting the Biocylons. Apparently this first Hybrid was in the one ship (if this was true) that had escaped. Moloch seemed to have some issues with the first Hybrid but Moloch seemed to have issues with everyone human and Cylon. What Moloch seemed most upset about was the ability to be reborn that apparently the first Biocylons (and especially the Number Ones and Threes) had deliberately kept the IL series from getting. The few remaining IL models when they saw the Attack on the Twelve Colonies had been hoping to turn the Centurions and Raiders against the Biocylons. When this proved to be futile they had then destroyed what they thought was the only Resurrection Ship (a total of 7 had been made) in a "frak you" type of defiance as apparently the IL series were unable to make more of it's models and they were starting to break down. That this whole diversion that had cost them one irreplaceable Resurrection Ship, 4 Baseships, and almost 2000 Raiders was because a group of nihilistic robots wanted everyone to die if they couldn't keep going was something Dyo found ridiculous.

"Most ships are leaving but why exactly did you want to stay here" asked Dyo. "Either there is nothing here or we run the risk of running into one or more Guardian ship. And they have proven to be a match for a single Baseship."

"One of my Sister Sixes has said they will come here with their Baseship. They suspect a hidden group of Colonials might be here" said Armani. "Various Raiders did report a couple of incidents with Colonials."

Dyo looked over the data. A small smuggler had destroyed a pair of Raiders over a month ago and there had been a few brief glimpses of a very small passenger ship with a Raptor. "Do you think they might be part of that Patrolstar and it's ships" asked Dyo.

"She didn't say other than she found something suspicious in Colonial records" said Giadi.

This seemed like a bit of a waste of time for two Baseships but better than going back to the Colony or Cyrannus System and having some Number One incompetently boss them around. "By Your Command" agreed Leonard Dyo.

I have nostalgia for Original BSG and found Lucifer to be awesomely bitchy and kind of hilarious. The IL or "Imperious Leader" class probably were not in RDM BSG but "meh" they won't play a huge part.

Thank you for reading. Any questions or comments are appreciated!
