Chap 3: Baby Boom
Spring has finally passed, and its effects have not left anyone indifferent. The first to discover her pregnancy is Aria, who knew it quite early and was able to foresee, with Ezra, of course, the arrival of her child. The second person to find out she is pregnant is Emily. She was chosen to be Kurt and Blaine's surrogate mother. It was a great honor for her and she immediately accepted the coupling, which is not something simple. Then it was Spencer's turn to be expecting a child. The effects of spring have been very active in her and Toby, as well as in Hanna and Caleb. She is the fourth to expect a child. The last person to suffer the effects of spring is Santana. She always wished to have children, and this occasion turned out to be the best one. She had a choice for the man who was going to impregnate her, and her choice fell on Lucas. He's pretty isolated, but he seems to have good genes that he could pass on to the child Santana and Brittany are expecting. He did not hesitate before accepting, not having the desire to have children, but to help people to have them.
After 4 months of pregnancy, which is faster compared to a human, almost all of them were on the verge of giving birth. Pregnancies in werewolves happen differently than in humans. As said before, there are only four months of pregnancy instead of nine. It's also less painful and women's bellies don't swell as much. Because of this, it's nearly impossible to tell whether a werewolf is pregnant or not, other than whether you are a werewolf yourself. There, the pheromones released will let you know. Otherwise, you will have to ask the question, and you will not always get an answer.
The moment of childbirth, among werewolves, is always something rather difficult, either to plan or to organize. It is already complicated enough to put a due date, even if we know the average duration of a pregnancy. A child may be born earlier or later than the expected date. So, we prefer not to give any expiry date. We just stand ready when the term is supposed to approach. You should also know that childbirth can be quite painful, as in humans. So we plan an epidural and other painkillers if needed.
And, that's what happened to the original pack. Aria was the first to go to the delivery room, because the first to be pregnant. The others followed a few days later, except Santana. Her delivery took place two weeks after the first, as she was the last to become pregnant. The first deliveries were a few days apart, except for Santana, which took place after everyone else. This made it possible to slightly reduce the pressure that animated the whole pack.
In general, with the approach of deliveries, the whole pack begins to liven up, so that everything is ready in time. Everyone is running around, and that tends to stress women about to give birth. So we recommend calm for the preparations. In fact, we even ask that they be done before the children arrive, to avoid all this much too stressful animation.
Aria was the first to give birth. She and Ezra welcomed a baby girl whom they decided to name Ellie. Emily gave birth to Kurt and Blaine's child less than a day later. It's a little boy they decided to call Liam. Both children are Alphas, like their parents. When they were born, their eyes shone with an intense red color, the one that says they are Alphas, and that they are the ones who will lead the pack later. A peculiarity of werewolf children is the color of their eyes. When children are born, the color is already fixed. It will not take a few months to define itself. In their cases, both of their children had minnows eyes, blending the color of their parents' eyes.
Ellie had one eye green and the other blue, as Aria has green eyes and Ezra has blue eyes. Liam, on the other hand, inherits a mix that is more common in people with heterochromia. He has one blue eye and the other a caramel brown color. And, that's normal. Kurt has blue eyes while Blaine has caramel brown eyes. Besides, no one has ever been able to say that it is the exact color of his eyes, but it has never been a problem for him. You should also know that heterochromia is quite common in werewolves. It is not surprising to see, when the child is born, that he has minnows eyes. It is also a beautiful symbolism, because it mixes the color of the eyes of its parents.
Two days after Emily gave birth, it was Spencer's turn to give birth to her child, or rather, her children. Indeed, she was expecting twins, although it did not show at all. Twin pregnancies are also common among werewolves, as their immune system allows them to carry so many babies without there being any real effects. It is therefore not surprising to learn that a werewolf is expecting twins, triplets, or even more. But, in general, pregnancies that go higher than triplets are rarer, because it becomes hard to bear, even for a werewolf. As in humans, the follow-up of this kind of pregnancy is stricter than the follow-up of a normal pregnancy.
Spencer and Toby's family has grown with their fraternal twins, a boy and a girl, Gabriel and Talia. They were born Omegas, the same status as their parents and do not appear to exhibit heterochromia. Considering that one of their parents has brown eyes, it is quite complicated to spot this physical peculiarity. However, their eyes seem to be a little lighter than their mother's. As with the Alphas, their children's eyes glowed the color of their status right after they were born. Their eyes shone an orange color more fiery than fire.
Hanna and Caleb followed less than three days later, welcoming a little boy named Camden, but whom they nicknamed Kai. They chose an original first name, wanting to have originality in their family. Hanna has always liked originality and had already chosen the first names of her future children well in advance. Of course, she discussed it with Caleb, to make sure they're both okay and there's no side argument there.
Santana was the last to go to the delivery room, giving birth to a baby girl, whom she decided to call Kelly. She and Brittany had worked together to choose the name of their child and they had both come to an agreement on this one. For them, this first name has character and is easy to write and remember. And, with only two syllables, it is easy to pronounce, thus avoiding mistakes. For Santana and Brittany, it's the perfect first name. They thought of no others.
After all these childbirths, the pack grew well, but it also weakened. Both Alphas are related. Therefore, they cannot properly ensure the security of the pack and the territory. The Omegas who have not had children rise to ensure security, occupying certain positions, which they did not occupy before. Now, the priority of the whole pack is that the children grow up in a safe and caring environment. Like any child, a hostile environment is not good for the development of baby werewolves.
A werewolf baby grows just as fast as a human baby, but there are a few things that change. When the child werewolf reaches the age of three, all his werewolf parts appear, without his having any control over them. They will remain there until the child is eight years old. At that age, he will be able to control them completely and therefore hide them if he wants. Few werewolf children choose to hide their werewolf parts, because they don't see the point of it. These parts are part of them, of who they are and who they are. Hiding them would mean denying their kind, and that's inconceivable for a werewolf.
While the children are still small, unable to walk or defend themselves, the pack will live in slow motion, at the pace of the little ones. The parents will teach them everything they need to know, and the rhythm of life of the pack will resume its normal course when the children are three years old. It's an important age because that's when they'll be a little bit more independent. They will be less under the supervision of their parents, will be able to wander further in the territory, while respecting the limits. They will be able to discover more things and will be able to play freely with each other, without fear of injury. It is also at this age that the werewolf's immunity and healing ability is formed. They will need to exert themselves and play to forge it. There, injuries, light of course, are allowed, to learn how to trigger healing and learn to do it on command, when it is necessary and when they want it and it is necessary.
It is also during these first three years that the pack will be most on guard, on the lookout for the slightest danger. The instinct of the Omegas is to protect their own, and not to let anyone suspicious enter the territory. Children must be protected as much as possible, because they are still very fragile. The slightest injury can be fatal to them at such a young age. That's why they hardly ever go out, but that doesn't make them afraid. Rare are the werewolves who are afraid of something they don't know. Werewolves are curious beings by nature. They are always looking for new things to discover, especially children, who do not hesitate to go to dangerous places to satisfy their curiosity.
Three years after the birth of a good part of the werewolves of the pack, the children have reached the fateful age of three years. They can now enjoy their childhood, while remaining protected. Just because they're bigger and now able to defend themselves doesn't mean they're no longer protected. The Omegas will always ensure their protection, as well as the Alphas, who were able to resume their previous activities.
The most playful among the children are the twins Talia and Gabriel. They love to prank everyone, especially their dad, Toby. As soon as Spencer leaves the house to go to work, they rush on the first package of flour they find and do not hesitate to tie their father to a chair, so that he does not move. From there, they cover it head to toe in flour, and take eggs to complete the already very unpleasant mixture. Poor Toby doesn't have as much authority as he thought. He almost never manages to calm his children down, and it's always Spencer who has to clean up the mess when she gets home from work. They had a very long discussion when she saw that this behavior was repeating itself. The kids seem to have calmed down, but they still love playing dirty tricks on the first person who is unfortunate enough to get in their way. Their jokes do not forgive.
The other kids in the pack are pretty quiet by comparison, but they're also quite playful. As soon as their werewolf parts came out, they directly wanted to test them, trying to replicate what their parents were doing. Children are adept at mimicry, almost always trying to do what they see. So, it is better to set a good example, because you can quickly end up with unruly children who do anything.
Characters relating to their status also begin to appear. The young Alphas have already grouped the young Omegas into what seemed to be the beginnings of a small pack. You should know that the Alphas will not leave the pack. They'll take over when Kurt and Aria decide. Until then, they owe them respect, even if they are, technically, on the same level as them. Their similarity in status does not change the hierarchy of the pack.
Many people ask the question about impregnation in children. Indeed, some wonder if it is possible for a child to imprint on someone. The answer is no, of course. The impregnation cannot take place at such a young age, because the child does not yet know anything about the love connected with the impregnation. At that age, he does not know the existence of imprinting, because he is far too young to understand. So don't worry, a child is not likely to imprint on someone.
One of the things children will learn is hunting. Even though the werewolves go shopping in stores, often in his supermarkets, some still practice hunting. For them, it's an activity like any other, which allows them to meet their nutritional needs. No one sees evil, so they keep teaching it to their children. Kurt and Aria are no exception. Already when they were little, they had learned to hunt, and they had already hunted for food. So teaching that to all the kids in the pack, with parental consent of course, is one of the things they wanted to do. They do not forget to specify that they are not obliged to hunt, because there are plenty of other alternatives for food. Hunting can remain a hobby, which can allow them to taste meat different from that found in commerce.
Indeed, most werewolves prefer freshly hunted meat, as it tastes better, stronger, and more authentic. The vast majority of butchers seek to reproduce this taste, without success. Werewolves have their very particular method of hunting and above all, they consume their meat directly. They don't take time to wrap it to move it, because that's what takes all the taste out of the meat, denatures it.
Kurt and Aria are very involved in their learning to hunt, because it can be useful to them in their future life. They will be able to teach this to their own children, they will be able to share their knowledge with people who know nothing about it. It's one of the most important things for them, that they can share their knowledge and teach people things. Sharing is one of the most beautiful things.
In any case, the children grow up well, in a safe and happy living environment. There is no danger around the territory, the children do not risk anything. They thrive very well, play with each other and love to prank everyone. The humans living among them also play with them and teach them many things. They must know the life of werewolves as much as that of humans, because they live in the world of humans. If they don't know the rules of human life, cohabitation can go very badly, and it has happened before. We also taught them to thwart the traps of werewolf hunters, while telling them that they shouldn't run into them. These people hate werewolves and would do anything to eradicate them completely.
Children are always learning and although they love to be distracted and love to play, they listen to everything they are told because they know it is for their safety. They know their parents are born protectors, and they mean it, so they do the same. They also share their advice and will ask lots of questions to all the adults they meet. Most find it hard to answer because they haven't really faced it, but they try to answer anyway.
What is important to know is that children pay attention and take everything they are told seriously. They know that their safety, as well as that of the whole pack depends on them and what they do. So they start playing the little protectors, taking their lessons seriously, not missing any. They are the future protectors of the pack, and they already take this role to heart. The future of the pack is assured with this generation.
