Chapter 11

Asta got up to her feet hearing a noise.

Boromir looked at her as he shakily got up to his feet. "What is it?"

"Something is coming…"

"What?"

"I've had a bad feeling ever since we left this morning… something dark is looming in the shadows… and I'm afraid that it'll take us all…"

"Someone after the ring?"

Asta looked at Boromir with a worried gaze. "I fear so…"

Suddenly they heard Pippin and Merry.

"It's working!"

"I know its working! Run!"

Asta's heart pounded in her chest as she quickly began to run.

Boromir was quickly on her heels.

They saw Merry and Pippin run across an old stone bridge. At its far end, they stopped and saw the Uruk-hai running towards them from another direction. The Uruks were closing in on the front and behind them.

An Uruk ran towards them, raising his axe, but Boromir came charging in, knocking the Uruk back, and killed him with his sword.

Boromir moved quickly and threw a knife at the other.

Asta attacked another, killing it fairly easily with her sword. Her hair whipped around as she fought against the Uruks.

Boromir quickly grabbed his ox-horn and blew it three times as he fought back to back with Asta as they protected themselves and the two young hobbits that somehow got into this mess.

More Uruks attacked Boromir and Asta.

Asta let out a shriek as a sword connected with her arm slicing her deep. Her violet eyes narrowed as she grabbed a discarded arrow and stabbed it into the neck of the Uruk that had sliced her arm.

Boromir sounded the horn again as he shoved back one of the Uruks. "Run! Run!" He ordered the hobbits.

The Uruks surrounded Boromir and Asta.

Boromir ended up killing two more.

Asta looked up seeing Lurts lifting his bow, aiming a big black arrow right at Boromir. Asta shoved Boromir out the way and the arrow whizzed past her embedding itself into a tree.

The hobbits looked at Asta and Boromir in shock.

The Uruks came closer and the two of them gave a battle cry and began to fight one of the Uruks.

Asta saw another arrow flying towards Boromir and she was able to get him out of the way once again.

Boromir turned to look at her with wide eyes. He was surprised that she was pushing him out of the way of the arrows as they headed their way. He had to admit that her skills were much different than what he would've thought they would have been.

Asta moved again protecting Boromir as another arrow flew by nicking her in the arm causing her to growl as she looked up at Lurtz. Her eyes narrowed, she needed to kill that Uruk and make sure that he wouldn't be following them any time soon.

Merry and Pippin with all of the courage that they had took up their swords and attacked the Uruk-Hai with a cry of their own. "Shire!" They never got a chance to strike, the Uruk-Hai lifted them up and carried them off. The two of them waved their hands frantically.

Boromir and Asta watched on in shock as the Uruk-Hai walked right past them.

Asta fell to her knees holding her bleeding arm.

Boromir knelt next to her as he went to check her. He swallowed the lump in his throat.

Ten feet away Lurtz stopped in front of them, taking aim again.

Boromir swallowed another lump in his throat knowing that this was probably very much the end for them. They would never get to do anything that would make his family proud or even her having her redemption.

Suddenly a clang was heard and they turned their head seeing Aragorn hitting Lurtz and the arrow flying right into the wood harmlessly.

Asta got up to her feet shakily feeling Boromir's arms around her holding her up.

Aragorn and Lurtz began to fight one another.

Aragorn loses his sword and is thrown to the ground. He got up to his feet, Lurtz threw his shield at him and pinned him by the neck against the tree.

Lurtz raised his sword and striked, but Aragorn slipped beneath the shield and dodged the attack.

Aragorn pulled a knife out and stabbed Lurtz in the leg, causing Lurtz to roar and knock him to the ground, making him roll a few feet away.

Lurtz then pulled the knife from his leg and threw it at Aragorn, who had finally grabbed his sword and used it to bat the knife away.

Aragorn closed in on Lurtz in a flurry of sword play, before slicing his arm off and then stabbing him in the chest.

Lurtz grabbed Aragorn's sword and pulled himself up on it, closer to Aragorn snarling.

Aragorn grimaced and pulled his sword out of Lurtz, before swinging wide and hacking off his head. Aragorn watched the body fall to the ground. Aragorn paused for a moment panting trying to catch his breath.

Asta panted falling to the ground again.

Boromir grabbed her to keep her from falling fully to the ground. "Asta."

"No." Aragorn said as he rushed towards them. He kneeled down next to them. He saw how pale Asta was becoming.

Boromir looked at Aragorn. "They took the little ones."

"Keep her still." Aragorn said softly as he went to go and check her wound.

"Frodo. Where is Frodo?" Asta questioned softly coughing a little bit, her hand being swatted away by Aragorn.

Aragorn grabbed some herbs that he knew would work on her wound. "I let Frodo go." He admitted as he worked on her wound.

Asta let out a gasp of pain.

"Then you did what I could not. I tried to take the Ring from him." Boromir admitted softly as he held Asta still so she could be tended to.

"The Ring is beyond our reach now."

Boromir looked at Aragorn. "Forgive me. I did not see it. I have failed you all."

"No, Boromir. You fought bravely. You have kept your honor."

"It is over. The world of Men will fall. And all will come to darkness, and my city to ruin."

"I do not know what strength is in my blood, but I swear to you I will not let the White City fall, nor our people fail."

"Our people? Our people." Boromir said softly, liking the idea. He watched Aragorn work on Asta's arm and tied the wound with a bandage. "I will follow you, my brother. My captain. My king."

Aragorn swallowed the lump in his throat and nodded his head.

Asta shakily got up to her feet.

Boromir wrapped his arm around her, keeping her steady on her two feet.

They rushed back to the river to get their items to get a move on.

Legolas went to push one of the two remaining boats into the water. "Hurry! Frodo and Sam have reached the eastern shore."

Aragorn, Boromir and Asta stood still, looking towards the shore on the other side, seeing the two hobbits running into the forest.

Aragorn didn't say a word but sighed.

Legolas stared at him, finally understanding what was going on. "You mean not to follow them."

"Frodo's fate is no longer in our hands."

"Then it has all been in vain. The Fellowship has failed." Gimli said, letting out a breath.

Legolas and Gimli walked up to Aragorn, Asta and Boromir.

Aragorn put his hand on their shoulders. "Not if we hold true to each other. We will not abandon Merry and Pippin to torment and death. Not while we have strength left. Leave all that can be spared behind. We travel light. Let's hunt some Orcs." Aragorn turned and picked up a dagger from the ground. Then he suddenly ran into the forest.

Legolas and Gimli looked at one another grinning.

"Yes! Haha!"

They turned and ran after Aragorn.

Boromir hoisted Asta up onto his shoulder and helped her run after them.

Asta let out a gasp in pain as he helped her.

"Sorry." He apologized softly. "It's my fault."

"No, it'll never be your fault… and I won't see your city fall." She said softly as she tried her best to run even though she was hurt. She knew that the herb that Aragorn used would take some time to heal her up. "We got two members of our Fellowship to save."

Boromir let out a soft chuckle. He was surprised that she was more worried about the two hobbits instead of her own wounds, but perhaps that was showing him that she was indeed different from her own people. He knew right then and there in his heart that she truly was someone that was changing and that could be trusted.
