Dastardly and Muttley in: The Little Mermaid

A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale

Narrated by: The Narrator from Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines

Once in the deepest part of the blue sea, an underwater land filled with gears and helmets was lived by four mer-pliots. They were named Dastardly, Muttley the sea dog, Klunk and Zilly. They worked hard onto their planes just for Yankee Doodle Pigeon to come over the sea. When he flew over it, Dastardly, Muttley and Klunk swam over to catch that pigeon, but failed. The reason why Zilly did not follow the other pilots is because Dastardly, Muttley and Klunk are fifthteen years old. Even though he was the shy one, Zilly was adored by every fish under the sea.

The youngest and sweetest,

The Little Mer-Pilot!

[The clown fish]

He's so kind!

[The catfish]

He has a lovely voice!

Finally, on the day that Zilly turns fifteen years old, he can go to the world above the sea. Dastardly, Muttley and Klunk told Zilly the whole story about the outside world.

[Dick Dastardly]

Moonbeam on the sandbate!

It's amazing out there!

[Muttley]

The golden sunset!

It's beautiful everywhere!

[Klunk]

Green forest and hills

[Dick Dastardly, Muttley and Klunk]

That cannot be compared!

[Zilly]

Oh, I can't wait to be fifteen years old!

Oh, I can't wait to go to the world that I was told!

I wonder what's out there?

Oh, I can't wait to see the world that I'll behold!

Before Zilly could leave the sea, Dastardly told him to catch Yankee Doodle Pigeon if he flew closer to the water. He agreed and swam up the surface. Zilly looked up in the sky and noticed the evening sky. The golden sunset was still standing here. However, Zilly didn't see Yankee Doodle Pigeon. "I think he might be moving into a different direction." Zilly thought. Just before he was about to go in a different direction, Zilly noticed a big ship moving through the sea.

Beautiful fireworks began to appear from the ship. On the ship, it was the Anniversary of a pretty princess, who was wearing a pretty green gown, becoming the captain of her own ship.

[Zilly]

She's kind and brave,

She has blue eyes.

Oh, princess!

I wish that I could be with you!

Suddenly, Rumble, rumble! BOOM! BANG! A sudden storm came! The storm interrupted the princess' celebration and the ship started to fall into pieces! The princess fell off from the crash and landed into the sea. She began to drown.

[Zilly]

Dark clouds covered the sky.

Thunder!

Thunder and lighting!

I see a broken ship!

It's broken into pieces!

It's frightening!

I have to save the princess!

Zilly, in a panic, quickly picked up the unconscious princess, placed her onto one of the pieces of the ship and swam into the shore with all of his might! After the dangerous and savage storm, Zilly placed the princess onto a sandy, dry beach. Suddenly, a voice called out, "Who is that pretty lady with a pilot who has a fish as his lower body?" Zilly quickly hid himself behind a huge rock. A prince from a neighboring country approached the princess. "Are you alright?" The prince asked. "Please, open your eyes!" At that moment, the princess opened her eyes!

[The princess]

Oh, you saved me.

You saved my life.

Zilly was very disappointed and swam back to Dastardly, Muttley and Klunk. "Did you catch that pigeon?" Dastardly asked. "No, I didn't." Zilly replied. "I got very distracted by a princess who was on a ship. After I saved her life, I was almost caught by a prince who soon discovered the princess." Dastardly became VERY confused. "How can a sea pilot menace in love with a human?" Dastardly asked. "Even though we're immortal," Klunk explained. "Humans died from every illness they got. How did that ever happen? Just think about it and even one day, the princess will love you more than her own ship even though she was the captain."

Zilly did get the advice from his friends, but he couldn't stop thinking about the princess. He decided that the Sea Witch could eventually help him. Even though he has Wiccaphobia, Zilly swam into a cave where the Sea Witch lived.

[Zilly]

If I have two legs, I will walk and make footprints.

If I could get up and walk, I would be together with the princess.

Oh, Sea Witch, will you, will you make me walk, please?

Let me be a human even for one day.

A day's enough.

That's okay!

The Sea Witch then gave Zilly a mysterious potion, but there was an effect.

[The Sea Witch]

If you drink this potion,

Your mermaid tail will be gone,

Then you'll have two legs,

And you can get to walk like everyone,

But every step you take will sting so bad on and on,

And your beautiful voice will be gone!

You will have none!

"Even though if you become a human, if you don't win the princess' heart, you will dissolve into bubbles!" The Sea Witch warned. Zilly was frightened about the warning, but he takes the potion anyway. Zilly swam up to the surface again and drank the potion. He soon began to feel the pain of his tail becoming two legs. The princess noticed Zilly lying beside the shore. "Please, open your eyes!" The princess shouted. "Are you okay?" Zilly soon opened his eyes and noticed the princess helping him.

[Zilly]

Oh, my princess,

Can you recognize me?

I wish that I could tell you how happy I am.

Zilly was very sad because the potion he had drunk removed his voice. The princess took pity on Zilly and took him to her castle. Many people and guardians of the princess' castle confronted Zilly, but he couldn't say a single word. He began to feel the pain everytime he walked. It was all because of the warning from the Sea Witch. Zilly was always suffering from not speaking and feeling the pain of walking, but he was very happy to be with the princess.

[Zilly]

How nice would it be to have the princess' heart?

How nice would it be?

One day, the princess introduced the prince from the neighboring country. "This is the prince that I'm going to marry!" The princess said. "He saved my life when I was unconscious from the storm!"

[Zilly]

But my dear princess,

The one who had saved your life…was me.

I saved you.

Klunk soon saw the whole thing and was worried. "I better tell Dastardly and Muttley about this!" Klunk said. He swam to Dastardly and Muttley. "Sir, I found something very terrible!" Klunk said. "What? Did that pigeon just escape?" Dastardly asked. "No," Klunk explained. "I found that Zilly was about to sacrifice himself after the princess, thinking that the prince saved her life, was gonna marry him!" Dastardly suddenly knew that the Sea Witch must have done something with Zilly, so he and his crew all swam to the cave where the Sea Witch lived.

Dastardly angrily threatens the Sea Witch. "Can you tell me where Zilly is?!" Dastardly asked in anger. Annoyed by his threats, the Sea Witch pushed Dastardly back. "I will explain what to your friend." The Sea Witch said. "When I was relaxing inside of my cave, I met your friend, Zilly, coming inside. He begged me that he wanted to have human legs, so he would be together with a princess. I agreed with his request and gave him a potion that will turn him into a human, but the potion has a terrible side effect. It made his tail gone and have two legs, but he can feel the pain everytime he walks one by one. His voice will be removed after drinking it. I also gave him a warning that if he never wins the heart of the princess, he will dissolve into bubbles!" Dastardly, Muttley and Klunk were shocked.

"Is there gonna be a way that our friend will come back into the sea?" Dastardly asked, glaring at the Sea Witch. "Oh, don't be so cross with me!" The Sea Witch sighed. She swam into the deepest part of her cave and picked up a pair of scissors sitting in a rock. The Sea Witch swam back to Dastardly, Muttley and Klunk and gave them the scissors. "Huh? What is this paper-cutting thing gonna do from our friend sacrificing himself?" Dastardly asked in a disappointing tone. "If Zilly cuts the princess' pinky finger with the scissors, the effect will be gone and his voice and his tail will be back." The Sea Witch said. Dastardly, Muttley and Klunk swam up to the surface of the sea.

They soon found Zilly very unhappy while sitting on the shore. Dastardly, Muttley and Klunk all swam into him. Muttley raised out the scissors and said to Zilly,

[Muttley]

Until the sun rises tomorrow,

Cut the princess' pinky figure,

Then you can be a mer-pilot once again!

[Dick Dastardly, Muttley and Klunk]

Let's go back to under the sea!

Zilly fearfully picked up the pair of scissors. He sneaked into the room where the princess was sleeping. Zilly held the scissors tightly onto the princess' pinky figure in fear as he looked at the princess' beautiful face for the last time.

[Zilly]

If I cut the figure now,

Then I can live again,

But I can never do that!

I just can't hurt my princess.

Zilly sobbed and threw the scissors away. He soon left the princess' room and saw the sun rising up from far away. Remembering the warning the Sea Witch had given him, Zilly knew what he had to do. "Be happy…my princess…" Zilly said. After saying his last words, Zilly threw himself into the sea. His gears began to flow down after he dissolved into bubbles. He began to live happily ever after in the sunset sky.

[Zilly]

I can feel the warm air,

I feel it everywhere.

My hands and my body are getting invisible.

All beautiful memories will always be in my heart.

I'll cherish it.

I'll remember it, forever and ever.

Forever and ever!
