Arriving outside the Three Broomsticks, Audrey was briefly startled by how bright it was before remembering herself. A large mob was forming, some of whom she recognised, like Rosmerta and Andreas Scrivens, the friendly proporietor of Scrvienschaft's Quill Shop, and others she knew by sight but couldn't place them (though many of them she knew were Hogsmeade residents and others she presumed were parents of Hogwarts students). She noted, with delight, that there were Slytherin students in the mob, including one she recognised as the son of a death eater, Martin Nott, and she recognised some Slytherin alumni as well: Gemma Farley, Terrence Higgs, and that chaser whose name she couldn't remember. "I'm here to help", she told an old man ostensibly leading the mob, clad in pajamas with Slytherin's emblem on them. "Come join the mob," the man told her enthusiastically, "Hogwarts needs all the help it can get, and it seems like it's a battle for all the marbles tonight. Voldemort (Audrey didn't even flinch) has called a temporary truce, and we're hoping to get the death eaters behind so they'll be surrounded on all sides." More and more people kept arriving, including a man she recognised as Charlie Weasley, and there were well over a hundred - maybe as many as a hundred and fifty - wizards and witches in the mob, before a voice, that could only belong to Lord Voldemort (this was the first time ever Audrey could even remember thinking the name), called out, "Harry Potter is dead." Mingled looks of shock and horror appeared on every face Audrey could see, including her own, she was sure, but as Voldemort lied that Potter had been killed trying to sneak away, this was quickly replaced by determination. "Charge!", screamed the pajama-clad man who was presumably head of Slytherin.
And so they did. Letting out a collective cry, they ran through the gates and could make out a scene of utter pandemonium: giants engaged in earth-trembling battle. One of them, smaller than the other two, was aided by a hippogriff (surely this one was on Hogwarts' side, but how they'd recruited a giant surpassed Audrey's comprehension), and amazingly, the smaller one seemed to be winning against the two larger ones, with apparently just a hippogriff to aid it: the two larger giants were bleeding from the face and being pummelled by the smaller one. Death Eaters, Hogwarts defenders (and were those centaurs!?) alike were running inside, and she could make out several death eaters that had been taken down and were being trampled, bringing Audrey savage joy. Her father deserved to be one of them. She had yet to spot Voldemort, and she was now approaching the castle steps with dozens upon dozens of others, and was careful to trample a death eater she remembered from school as Thorfinn Rowle as she ran.
Reaching the entrance hall, the scene was utter pandemonium: Hogwarts defenders, centaurs and house-elves fought death eaters, who were heavily outnumbered, now even more so with the arrival of reinforcements. She saw Sean Patterson, Titus' father-in-law, lose his balance as an elf stuck a meat cleaver in the back of his leg, and saw his brother, Ciaran, try to make a break for it. Audrey fired a full-body-bind curse at the fleeing Patterson, which struck true, but it was one of three spells to floor the man. She saw a masked death eater fire a killing curse at a house-elf, which struck, and Audrey retaliated, flooring him with a bludgeoning hex to the chest. Higgs and Farley had stunned Pyrites, who'd just about weaved out of the way of a centaur's arrow that would've otherwise struck the cunt in the heart, she saw Bill Weasley kill a Black Death eater she recognised from old wanted posters as Kilbourne, with what looked like a bone-breaking curse that struck the man directly in the neck, and Audrey sprinted in to the great hall, past a contingent of bound death eaters, with so many others, where Voldemort must be.
And Voldemort was there indeed, being challenged by Professor McGonagall, the man who'd marshalled the reinforcements, and by a tall black man. She caught sight of her father for the first time, who was crawling about with his wand trained on Professor Flitwick, who was duelling Dolohov. Two young men - one of whom was certainly one of the Weasley twins, who, horrifyingly, had an ear missing - picked her father up and slammed him onto the floor, just as she saw Dolohov's torso slash open with what might have been a diffindo, hitting the ground, dying. The remaining death eaters were fools not to have surrendered already, and got what they deserved, all being killed or captured, until only Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange remained, the latter of whom was challenged by three girls, one who had the Weasley red hair, and the other she remembered as Potter's best friend, that Granger girl.
Audrey's eyes were naturally drawn to Voldemort's duel, as here was the man who had to go down to truly end this reign of terror, but after so many of his followers had been killed tonight, what could he do, and how would he even escape? She thought she heard a voice screaming at the Lestrange bitch, but she was too focused on Voldemort to glance over, and she was deeply impressed by his challengers' skill and guts: why, they seemed to be fighting him roughly to a standstill. Maybe if someone more people would join her duel. This train of thought was unfortunately interrupted by Voldemort screaming with rage and blasting his opponents into a wall. A brief glance confirmed that Lestrange had fallen to a plump, short, red-haired woman (could this be another Weasley?) whose face was twisted in a tiger's snarl, and Audrey roared along with the rest of the crowd: only Voldemort left.
A nee voice roared "protego", and Harry Potter appeared very much alive, and Audrey cheered along with the rest of the crowd. A conversation followed, to which Audrey vaguely listened, picking up something about Snape having actually been on their side and killing Dumbledore at the latter's request (now that made sense, sounded like such a Dumbledore thing to do, striking a blow to his enemies even in death), and about the elder wand, which was apparently the one which Voldemort held, which supposedly held its allegiance to Harry Potter. The most anticlimactic duel ever followed this, just after the first rays of sunlight had shone upon the Great Hall: Voldemort firing a killing curse, Harry Potter firing expelliarmus of all things, but it seemed Harry Potter knew what he was doing, for, amazingly, miraculously, Voldemort's curse backfired and the elder wand flew towards Harry Potter. Voldemort dropped to the ground dead, with the same mundane finality with which his last lieutenant had fallen. Audrey rushed towards Harry Potter, along with the hundreds of others, wanting to touch the young man who was the reason why it was all over at least, why Audrey could finally live her life free of her family's ways. The day was won.
