McGonagall replaced the house tables, while Audrey approached Bill and Fleur, exchanging hugs and greetings, to tell them she wanted to help. With Bill, Fleur, Charlie and Percy Weasley, a man who was presumably their father, a couple of teachers, and a mixture of people who were ostensibly aurors and Order members, they trapped surviving death eaters in full-body-bind curses before locking them in the dungeons. She had noticed the hate-filled glare her father had sent her, and she'd simply responded with a kick. Her father had apparently been the only one of her family to have fought. It wouldn't be safe to transport them to the ministry until they had purged it of collaborators, and besides, they would first have to release all those innocent people from Azkaban.
The black man, whom Audrey had now learned was called Kingsley, announced that some of them, including himself, would be going to Azkaban to release the innocent, some of them would have to go to the ministry to capture big-name collaborators and gather as much incriminating evidence as possible, and a couple would have to remain there to guard the captured death eaters. The Slytherin head - called Horace - suggested dosing the captured death eaters with Draught of Living Death, to which Kingsley nodded his assent.
In the end, Horace remained behind to stand guard over the drugged prisoners of war, while Audrey, alongside Percy Weasley, his father Arthur, an eye-patched witch called Miranda, and others, set out to the ministry. Much as she wanted to set out to Azkaban to see if Martha was there, Audrey knew when to overcome personal sensibilities: she was far from the only one who'd suffered from this war, after all.
They split up, Audrey accompanied by Percy, Miranda, and two men called Tiberius and Sturgis. Percy and Audrey were by far the youngest of the group. They were to begin their search in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, while Arthur and others would search the first floor, where the office of minister of magic could be found. They were operating under Kingsley's instructions to capture anyone they knew was a collaborator, and anyone who raised their wand against them.
Percy and Audrey searched the Auror Office, Arthur and Sturgis the Improper Use of Magic Office, Tiberius and Miranda the office where the Magical Law Enforcement Patrol held their office. There would be other offices to search, of course, but all three of these officers had had several people supporting Voldemort's regime, so these were a prime place to start.
Audrey hugely enjoyed working with Percy, and could barely see in him the pompous prefect who'd once worked under her when she'd been head girl. His brother, Fred - whom she instantly remembered as one of the twins - had died during the battle. Audrey expressed her condolences for the loss, but didn't pry too much because it wasn't personal. More than anything, she felt bad for Percy herself: such a fine young man, from such a loving family, and yet he had lost a brother while her vile brothers had made it out in one piece. Where was the justice? Even her father hadn't been killed, but rather captured. Sure, he would be certainly going away for life, but that's he'd survived and Fred had died was so unfair.
Audrey expressed her surprise to Percy at the lack of aurors coming in, and Percy mentioned he'd seen a couple of ones who'd definitely worked for the Voldemort ministry at the Battle of Hogwarts, so it was presumably because they were all dead, captured or on the run. They found names and deeds of those aurors who'd stayed on at the Voldemort ministry, that an auror called John Dawlish (hadn't her father mentioned him once?) had transported this muggle-born to Azkaban, that another auror called Rogan McKendrick had arrested that clerk on suspicion of destroying a file on a fugitive etc. Audrey burst into tears when she found out what had happened to Martha: Martha had caught trying to confund an auror called Dale Thompson as he had started to transport a muggle-born to Azkaban, and had subsequently been tortured by her father and Travers before being carted off to Azkaban.
"Audrey, what's wrong?" Percy asked her, amazing her with the strength he was showing to comfort a crying woman even after he'd lost a sibling. Audrey couldn't reply for she was crying so hard, and Percy said, very gently, "you know, I think we've gathered enough evidence, let's go and reconvene with the others and give them the evidence we've acquired." The others had gathered up some incriminating documents as well, and there was also a small collection of living statues, indubitably collaborators. Hiccuping, Audrey said she would have to take the rest of the day off, to which the others nodded in solemn understanding. Percy offered to accompany her back to Hogwarts and she accepted.
The celebrations were still in full swing by the time they returned, though there was no sign of Harry Potter, who probably wanted some time to himself. Percy took her to sit with his family - or rather those members who were here in the Great Hall, both celebrating and mourning - and she explained to him over the next few hours the reason for her outburst. Percy showed her solemn compassions, and she fairly soon found herself clutching his hand for comfort. God, he really did provide her with a feeling of warmth. A really wonderful and fuzzy feeling.
By the time the rest of the Weasleys, Hermione Granger and Harry Potter had come back, they were ready to go home, and when Percy invited her to come, she accepted. And for the first time, she wasn't alone as she sobbed in bed.
