Mortimer "Morty" Smith was sitting on the chair, near the window. His eyes were watching the rain pour down heavily. His mind was on his grandpa Rick Sanchez. In Morty's heart and mind, Rick abandoned him – well, not just him. His mother (Beth) has been drinking non-stop, which worries both Morty and his older sister (Summer). Their father (Jerry) was too scared or stupid to stop Beth from drinking. Even though Morty didn't want to believe this, Beth would try to harm him. Fortunately for Morry, Summer would stop it. Yes, they have a typical sibling hate-love relationship. However, their relationship grew closer since their parents became more verbally abusive towards Morty. But that doesn't mean Morty didn't miss Rick. Morty was wondering what he had done wrong to make Rick leave.
It's been two months since Rick left his life. For two months, Morty tried his hardest to get Rick back. Even Summer gave him ideas, but nothing was working. The Smith siblings were going to give up on their grandpa.
"Morty, I brought up dinner."
Morty turned to see Summer standing in his room with two plates. This was the norm for the siblings. They eat in either Summer's or Morty's room. That's because they don't want to be near Jerry or Beth. The last supper they had together as a family was a week after Rick left the family. Morty has a ugly deep scar on his left cheek. It went down from under his left eye to the top of his throat. Beth was the one that gave Morty the scar. Neither Beth nor Jerry wanted to take Morty to the hospital. Summer was the one that took Morty to the hospital, having her dropout of high school to work full time to pay off the hospital bill since they don't have insurance. Morty was very thankful for Summer. Neither of them told Space Beth the truth when she came to visit. She wasn't surprised that Rick left.
Morty moved over to sit on his bed with Summer. They ate in silence, not knowing what to say. They usually talk to each other in soft voices, but nothing was coming to mind. Morty looked towards Summer and opened his mouth. However, he was cut off by a green portal appearing in Morty's room. The siblings thought it was their Rick returning, having them jump from Morty's bed. But they stopped when they saw a different Rick walk through the portal. This Rick's skin seemed more grayish than their Rick's skin. His hair was shorter and he was wearing a purplish "sci-fi" jacket with a gray shoulder pad and a red shirt underneath and grayish black pants. He was smirking evilly at the siblings.
"Morty," smirked the sci-fi Rick, "I know you don't know me, however, I'm Rick Prime – your real grandpa."
"What?!" Morty and Summer yelled in shock.
"Shut up both of you!" Beth's voice yelled from down the hall.
Morty tensed up, looking over at the door with fear in his eyes. Morty was pushed behind Summer, who was standing in between Morty, the door, and Rick Prime. The teen knew his sister was trying to protect him from their parents and Rick Prime.
Morty's eyes drifted towards Rick Prime, who was staring down at Morty with confusion in his eyes. Morty wasn't sure why Rick Prime was looking at him confused. When the man entered his room, he had an evil look on his face.
"What are you doing here?! Why do you want my brother?!" snapped Summer.
"He's not your real brother, Summer," Rick Prime said coldly, walking towards the siblings, "I believe Morty should be with his original Rick – which is me. Now, move."
Summer pushed her brother farther behind her. Since the day Beth gave Morty the scar, Summer had been overprotective of her baby brother. And Morty likes that.
"I'm not going to move! I'm not going to allow you to take my brother!"
Rick Prime shrugged, not caring about this Summer. He pulled out a gun, pointing at Summer before anyone could say a word, he pulled the trigger.
"Summer!" yelled Morty, dropping to his knees, thinking his sister had died.
He shook her roughly, checking if she was alive and thankfully, she was. She was hit with a dart. Morty wasn't sure why Rick Prime hit her with a dart. The man seemed like he was going to kill Summer, but he didn't.
Morty's eyes drifted to Rick Prime, who was now staring at the scar on Morty's face with a blank look.
"What the hell happened to your face?!"
"W-W-Why do you care?!" Morty snapped back, holding his sister's body to his body, "You're not my gr-grandpa! Plus, you h-hurt my sister!"
Rick Prime rolled his eyes, "She's not even your real sister. Your real sister is dead, along with your parents. I didn't care about my family. Admittedly, I thought my whole family had died. Until I got word that C-137 had a grandson that wasn't his. Of course, he would claim an Morty that's not even his own Morty. C-137 doesn't even have a family. I'm the reason for that, but that doesn't mean he could claim you as his grandson. Come. I don't have all day, Morty."
"I-I'm not going an-anyway with you!"
Once again, Rick Prime rolled his eyes, aiming the gun towards Morty. Morty's eyes widened. Before he could say a word, Rick Prime pulled the trigger. Darkness took over Morty's mind when he fell onto this sister. Rick Prime glared down at his grandson. Yeah, he doesn't care for his only living family, however, he believes this would be a good thing to kidnap Morty to force Rick C-137 from chasing him – or that's what Rick Prime was telling himself. Deep, deep down, Rick Prime was jealous of how Morty called himself the grandson of C-137, which wasn't true. Rick Prime wanted his grandson and he wasn't going to let anyone take his grandson again. Rick Prime picked Morty up, placing his grandson on his bed before glaring down at Summer. Rick Prime could have killed her, but he wanted to give Rick C-137 a message, and this teen would be the one to give him the message. He walked over to Morty's desk and wrote a letter. After writing the letter, Rick Prime took a sticky note and wrote something for Summer before placing the note on Summer's forehead. Rick Prime walked over to Morty and picked him up, throwing him over his shoulder. He pulled out the portal gun and opened a portal. With an evil smirk on his face, Rick Prime stepped through the portal, thinking of how to get Morty on his side.
Rick C-137 was enjoying his time away from his family. Or he thought. Yes, he likes the crows, but his mind was on his family – well, not the whole family. Every day, Rick would think of Morty. Normally, Rick doesn't care that he hurt Morty, but deep down, he was feeling guilty for leaving the boy that looked up to him. Sometimes, Rick would want to return to Morty, but he forced himself to stay where he was. He wanted to make sure his grandson was safe, but at the same time, Rick didn't want to see Morty. He knew if he went back to Morty, Rick couldn't leave again. That's why Rick didn't see Morty.
"Rick!" Rick heard a familiar female voice, "Grandpa!"
It was Summer's voice. Rick rushed out of his home. Summer was here. How did she find him?
"Summer, how did you find me?" Rick asked, sounding surprised.
She had tears in her eyes and a letter in her hand, "It's Morty! He's been kidnapped by a different Rick! He told Morty and me that he's known as Rick Prime!"
His heart stops beating. Rick knew who Rick Prime was. He was the one that killed his original family. He thought he was protecting Morty when he left, but Rick Prime found Morty Prime – who became Rick C-137's grandson. Rick wasn't going to admit this, but he felt fear coming through. Fear that Rick Prime was going to kill Morty.
"Letter," said Rick coldly.
Summer handed Rick with more tears streaming down her face.
Rick C-137,
I heard you have been hanging out with my grandson. Did you have fun playing grandpa to my grandson? I heard you abandoned him. I'm not surprised by that, C-137. You are a shitty person. Now, it's my turn to be grandpa to my grandson. Stay the hell out of my way or I will kill Morty – grandson or not.
"Damn it!" yelled Rick, throwing the letter to the ground, "Damn it! I'm going to kill that mother fucker! No one hurts Morty and lives!"
He turned towards Summer, who was staring at him with fear in her eyes. Rick never wanted Summer to fear him. He wanted to keep Beth, Morty, Summer – and Jerry (only because he's Beth's husband) – safe. His granddaughter was staring at him like he was going to harm her.
"Sumsum, I'm not going to hurt you and you know that."
"It's not that, Rick. It's…" Summer started, but cut herself off.
"It's what?!"
Summer sighed softly, letting Rick know what had happened since he left, "Rick, everyone in our home hasn't been the same since you left… Well, dad stayed the same. Mom became a drunk and would try to hurt Morty. Week after you left, I walked into the house to find Morty on the ground with a bloody wound on his face. Mom was the one that hurt him. Mom and dad didn't want to let Morty go to the hospital. I had to take him. I dropped out of school to pay for the hospital bill – I'm still paying for the bill. Rick, when you said you would kill anyone that would hurt Morty. I don't want you to kill mom or dad."
Rick closed his eyes. He always felt like Beth and Jerry never truly cared for their second child and only son. He knew Summer cared for Morty in her own way, but Summer shouldn't be caring for Morty like a parent should. It was time to return home to protect Morty from Beth and Jerry. However, the first thing Rick needs to do is to save Morty from Rick Prime.
