Chapter 2

-Katara POV-

The doors opened into an entryway which came to a hall, which the girl took a left and down three steps,and came to a single wood door this time and pushed it open and held it open after her for her new guests.

The room had a large round wooden table that could seat a good 10 people,across the room was a lone but tall window with soft white simple curtains and in front of the sill was a simple but comfortable looking bench made of wood and a humble cushion on it.

Currently at the table was another girl,who seemed to be around 17, and had long soft medium brown hair that hung a little past her shoulders and deep blue eyes and a soft oval face with full lips. Next to her was a boy that seemed to be her age or maybe a year older even, he had straw blonde hair that was short on his neck and swept across his front a little longer from left to right across his forehead,and brighter blue eyes than the girl as well a more defined jawline. Next to him was a boy that was younger than the older girl,but definitely older than the girl that found us. His jawline was stronger like the other boy's, he had dark brown hair that was almost the same cut as the other boys but his hair in the front was a bit shorter and dark brown eyes to match.

They looked up upon hearing the door being opened, and all looked surprised as they saw the new people coming in behind the youngest girl.

The girl smiled at them, " We have guests! I was in the woods foraging for something Mr Tumnus recently had shown me. I felt a pull of magic just off the main path, and I also heard them fall out of thin air as they landed from wherever they came from!"

The three at the table looked at her with equal amounts of surprise,intrigue,and curiosity on their faces.

She continued, "They appeared through a portal of some sort I think,sort of like us and the wardrobe! They don't seem to be from our world though, -they don't know what Christmas is!''

She then turned to the three standing behind her in the doorway. ''Oh by the way these are my siblings,the people I told you that you would meet!On the end is Susan, in the middle is Peter,and on the other side of Peter is Edmund."

Her eye's lit up as if something had dawned on her. "Oh,and I'm Lucy! I can't believe I forgot to inroduce myself,must have been from all the excitment!Oops!" she told us, ending with a sheepish chuckle.

-General POV-

Katara took a step forward and spoke up, "Its nice to meet you,and thats's okay Lucy,I undestand. I am Katara,and this is Zuko and his uncle-"

"Iroh,my dear." Iroh supplied from slightly behind her. Katara blushed faintly as she said a quiet thank you to him.

Susan gave a small wave as she said "Hi",which was quickly followed by Peter and Edmund's hellos.

Susan spoke up again, " Come on then and join us at the table. Food for a late lunch is being put together as we speak."

Lucy led us to the table and sat next to Susan. Katara sat down next to her,on her other side sat Zuko,and on his other side sat Iroh.

As soon as everyone got settled into their chairs, Peter asked, "So...How old are you?"

Katara answered first , "Fourteen." Zuko then softly said, "Fifteen." Iroh smiled and said , " Would you really ask an old man's age? Lets put it this way, I am old enough to have earned my wisdom but I can still do enough work with the best of them if need be. I am retired and I enjoy hot tea and my strategy games!"

Susan smiled with a hint of embarrassment and amusement adorning her features at Iroh's answer. She supplied a soft 'sorry'.

Iroh smiled and told her , "Not to worry."

Suddenly a door off to the side swung open and through it came a young girl that seemed close to Susan's age,with a soft slender face and a long soft brown braid over her shoulder; and she wore a simple sage green dress with mid length sleeves. In her hands was a long rectangular tray.

She murmured a soft 'pardon me' as she came between Lucy and Susan to place the tray down on the table near the edge,then started taking plates and bowls and cutlery off the tray and setting it on the table. She picked up the tray again and said, "I will be back with the tea in a few minutes."

Susan smiled up at the girl, "Thank you, Kayleona."

Kayleona smiled back before going back through the door from whence she came to prepare the tea.

Lucy inhaled deeply before saying, "Oh what a great lunch she prepared,it smells and looks fantastic!"

She turned to their guests and said, "Oh let me tell you what everything is since some of it may not be familiar to you where you are from!"

Iroh replied, "Thank you,Lucy,that would be wonderful." He was impressed with her thoughtful nature at such a young age,as well as how well spoken she seemed to be.

Lucy pointed to everything that was placed on the table infront of them and explained what it all was. There was quite a bit prepared for them.

All in all there was : small tomato and cheese quiches, sausage rolls, cucumber sandwiches, pimento cheese sandwiches, scones and several jams to choose from as well as fresh butter, and finally some sliced boiled eggs with salt and pepper and mustard on the side to fix as you please.

Zuko asked Katara, " Um,would you hand me a plate,please?"

"Sure," she responded then handed him a plate from the stack of plates that was in front of her. She handed Iroh a plate as well before sliding the rest of the stack of plates towards Lucy for herself and the others.

A small smile settled across her face as she noticed his politeness and his slight awkwardness.

"It all really does smell and look good, I cant wait to try it all" Katara said as she looked their hosts in the eyes one by one as she said so.

Zuko spoke up, "Yeah,me too."

Lucy,Susan,Peter,and Edmund began filling their plates with their preferences for the moment. Then Katara,Iroh and Zuko each tried one of everything since they hadn't really had any of those things before besides boiled eggs.

Katara tried the tomato and cheese quiche first. She broke the crust gently with a spoon and lifted it to her mouth. She inhaled the scent slowly before taking the bite. She bit back a small moan and emitted a hearty 'Mmm' instead. After swallowing she exclaimed happily, "Oh,Spirits,this is delicious!" Lucy and Edmund both smiled at her before telling her it was one of their favorites.

Iroh ended up trying a sausage roll first. His reaction to it was similar to Katara's reaction to the tomato and cheese quiche.

Zuko tried the pimento cheese sandwich first and said, "Its so strange but I also can't help really liking it for some reason."

Peter spoke up, "Yeah I feel the same. Edmund,however cant stand it. He prefers the cucumber ones very much so."

Edmund nodded his head before taking a bit of the preferred sandwich.

The side door opened again to reveal Kayleona carrying a round tray this time,coming around and setting it down on the table at the space that gapped between Edmund and Iroh since there was some space to set it down there since all the food was still on the table as well. This tray came with 2 steaming pots of tea and a tea cup for everyone as well as spoons for stirring. Also there was a container with a lid with a little spoon sitting in a slot on the rim, and a very small pitcher,and a bowl with a small spoon sitting it which seemed to be full of honey.

She clasped her hands in front of her , " Today I brewed Lady Gray tea for the occasion of unexpected guests,it always goes well for everyone." She went back to the door and stopped and faced them all,saying " I hope you all enjoy everything."

Everyone thanked her. Satisfied, she nodded her head and turned and left.

Iroh was beaming in excitement, "The tea smells wonderful!"

Iroh then saw the small pitcher,and asked , "Miss Lucy,what is in that tiny pitcher?"

Lucy shared a toothy smile as she explained, "That's cream for the tea. Where we are from some teas taste even better with a small splash of milk or cream! Especially what are considered 'classic' teas in our country back in our world."

Iroh looked satisfied by the explanation. He then went on, "How interesting, I must try it in mine then!"

Everyone took a tea cup and took turns serving themselves tea and fixing it to their liking. True to his word,Iroh tried a splash of the cream from the little cream pitcher into his tea.

Holding the cup to his nose, he took a slow deep inhalation of the steaming cup, "Ah! It smells wonderful!" He took a slow careful sip before adding, "And tastes even better than it smells!"

Lucy grinned over at him, "Oh good! I'm glad you like it!" She then looked over at Zuko and Katara before asking , "Well, what do you to think of it?"

Both in question nodded as they were in the middle of taking their first sips,slow and careful.

As the cups parted from their lips the both smiled in liking of the new tea.

Lucy smiled in satisfaction at their responses to the tea.

Edmund filled the quiet moment,reminding everyone of one food that paired particularly well with the tea itself. "Scones- you should try a scone and some jam with the tea,its the best!"

Edmund passed the plate of scones and then the jams over to the 3 guests. Each grabbed a scone and chose a jam and put some on their plate to go with it. They each dabbed their scone into their jams of choice and took a tentative bite. Enthusiastic 'mm' sounds came from all three.

Edmund had a knowing smirk on his face. Everyone else gave approving smiles too.

Peter took a sip of his tea and spoke as he placed his cup back down, "Now...I think its time for our exchange of stories."

Everyone around the table either nodded or murmured in agreement.

Peter looked at Lucy with a soft knowing look, "You want to start us off with the beginning of our story,Lu?"

Lucy's face broke into a wide grin, "Yeah I think I ought to since I led us through that wardrobe,ultimately."

Her siblings smiled at each other.

Lucy turned to face Katara,Iroh and Zuko a bit better.

"In our world there is a war going on,so for safety our mother sent us to stay in the countryside at this Professor's house. Well while playing hide n go seek, I ended up hiding in a wardrobe and well it wasn't any ordinary wardrobe..."

After Lucy told them about her first entering this magical world,each sibling chimed in or told a bit from their perspective once it got to them all entering Narnia.

They paused and answered questions about fauns,and talking animals,Aslan, as well as Christmas and Saint Nick—in which told them of how Lucy got her cordial of healing properties.

Finally,Lucy wrapped it up herself ,saying, " Our coronation was about a little over two months ago. We are still learning a lot,but at the same time we have sort of gotten situated into our roles as kings and queens of Narnia. Alot of it in the beginning was helping get staff established and helping others near begin to recover from the effects of the White Witche's Reign and the war itself. Its been going well its adding and delegating our roles together as kings and queens together and learning how to do that and well. I was outside today putting some of my more somewhat recreational learning to use when I felt the pull of magic and heard/found you three."

Katara took a long sip of her tea,seeming like she was still taking it all in. "Wow. That's quite a lot.I cant believe you are kings and queens. I'm glad you are mostly used to it,or at least coming along very well,from the sounds of it."

Iroh chimed it, "You are all quite brave. The faun sounds like a good man. I am impressed." Lucy nodded her head in confirmation, a fond expression on her face.

Zuko said softly, " That's quite an adventure—and a wild battle from the sounds of it. Peter,Edmund,you think you could show me your swords sometimes? I am curious to see them, I am trained with twin blades myself."

The four siblings thanked them all and agreed on all points mentioned in praise of them.

Peter and Edmund nodded and said, "Yeah we can do that for sure. Would you care to show us yours as well?"

Zuko nodded.

Edmund looked up at their guests, "Now lets hear about your world,and your stories. Also,does anyone else want another round of tea when Kayleona comes back to check on us?"

Iroh,Lucy and Katara all affirmed at the notion of more tea to come.

Katara stretched her arms over her head before looking at the siblings across from her, " Okay , so in our world there is different nations and each nation has different cultures and traditions,and some people for each nation has abilities. The ability is called bending, and each nation is connected to an element and the benders can bend or influence that element. There's the Water Tribe,Fire Nation, Air Nomad Temples,and the Earth Kingdom. So water benders,fire benders,air benders,and earth benders."

Iroh spoke next, "I would like to follow that by telling a little more about each nation.

First,there is fire. Fire is the element of power. The people of the Fire Nation have desire and will,and the energy and drive to achieve what they want. Earth is the element of substance. The people of the Earth Kingdom are diverse and strong. They are persistent and enduring. Air is the element of freedom. The Air Nomads detach themselves from worldly concerns and found peace and freedom. Water is the element of change. The people of the Water Tribes are capable of adapting to many things. They have a deep sense of community that holds them together through anything."

Katara smiled at Iroh's words before speaking up again, " Then there is the avatar, master of all four elements. The avatar maintains the balance in our world. Each avatar is born into a nation and with the ability to bend that element and then learns the other three. When an avatar dies,the next avatar is born into the next nation/element in the cycle and so on.

I am from the Southern Water Tribe,and I am the only water bender in that part of my tribe. We have a sister tribe up north and they have benders,but we have been disconnected from our sister tribe up north for many years. I went there and its so different. So many more people and well some older ways of thinking that I had to mix up a bit. I will tell more of that story later.

Our tribe at the south pole may be small but we have a deep sense of community as Iroh said. I have a brother named Sokka. Our father is the chief of our tribe.

My grandmother used to tell me stories about the old days. A time of peace. When the avatar kept balance between the Water Tribes,Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation,and Air Nomads. But that all changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the avatar,master of all four elements could stop the ruthless fire benders. But when the world needed him most,he vanished. A hundred years have passed. My father and the men of my tribe journeyed to the Earth Kingdom to help fight against the Fire Nation who were close to winning the war,leaving me and my brother to look after our tribe. Some people believe that the avatar was never reborn into the Air Nomads and that the cycle is broken,but I haven't lost hope.

Not so long ago me and my brother discovered the new avatar that had been born into the Air Nomads named Aang. We found him trapped in an iceberg along with his sky bison Appa while we were out fishing in our canoe. He had been trapped in there for a hundred years in his avatar state.

Sokka and I had to explain that a hundred years had past and that he was believed to be the last air bender in the world,and explain the war to him as well. It was hard for him. He is only twelve years old."

Katara paused taking a sip of her tea,and then took a slow breath,and brought her fingers of her right hand to her necklace as if it was a form of comfort.

"The Fire Nation took my mother from me. She was trying to protect me ,the last water bender,saying it was herself and instead of being taken prisoner she was killed. It was horrible. I wear her necklace to remember her. Its all I have other than my memories and the stories my dad and gran-gran tell me." The sadness in her voice was a heaviness felt by all.

Lucy took her left hand and gave her a comforting squeeze. "I am so sorry. Thank you for telling us. You didn't have to,you know."

Lucy's siblings bore expressions of sympathy on their faces.

Iroh said, " I am sorry about your mother dear Katara. The war has taken from me as well. My only son died in the war ."

Katara looked him in the eye. "Thank you,and I am sorry about your son, Iroh."

Iroh gave a small sad smile, "Its alright,and thank you, Katara."

Zuko looked uncomfortable.

Iroh learned closer to his nephew and said softly, "Nephew, I know it is difficult but you should share your story as well."

Zuko grimaced,but nodded.

Susan spoke softly, "Take all the time you need. I know some stories aren't so easy to tell."

Zuko nodded his thanks,his body relaxing a fraction at her words.

Zuko gathered his thoughts and took a slow breath before beginning, "I am from the Fire Nation,and I am a fire bender. I am also banished from the Fire Nation. I was thirteen,and I got to witness my first war council meeting. I was excited. I was told to be quiet but I just couldn't help myself when a council member proposed we sacrifice innocent lives for our favor of the war for no reason. I was in the right but it did not matter. I had disrespected the council. My father told me I would go against the disrespected member in an Agni Kai,which is a battle for honor. What I did not know is since my father was leading the council it was him I had disrespected in speaking up out of turn. I begged and cried on my knees before my father. He said I would learn my lesson and suffering would be my teacher."

Zuko paused and took a breath before continuing, " And he punched a blast of flames at me and gave me this scar. I screamed and collapsed in pain and and shock. Before he left the room he said to me that after I got cleaned up and bandaged I was considered banished and could only return home and restore my honor by bringing back the avatar."

Everyone aside from Iroh looked stunned and horrified.

Katara spoke up,turning to face the boy beside her head on ,her voice slightly soften than usual,"Zuko, I'm so sorry that happened to you. You didn't deserve that."

Her facial expression changed to one of anger and hurt, " No one deserves that! You were a child!His child! I try not to hate anyone,but I am sorry Zuko, I hate him."

Zuko looked slightly surprised at her tone and change in demeanor after the first part that was said in earnest sympathy. He ducked his head slightly and looked her in the eye from the side, "Its okay Katara, I am alright. And I understand,especially after what he did to your tribe,and to you personally. In some way he had word or part of the word that sent the raid that got your mother killed. "

Katara took her hand from her necklace and put it on his shoulder ,trying to give him an understanding squeeze. She also noticed and was surprised when he didn't shrug off her hand or flinch or something to that type of nature.

"Thank you" was all she said.

Zuko spoke again, this time slowly,softly , "Katara,that's something we have in common, my mother was taken from me as well too soon,because of Ozai."

Katara's eyes grew wide. " What happened?"

Zuko closed his eyes, "I'm not entirely sure..One night she came into my room and told me she loved me and a few other things,and then she was gone. When I woke up, I'd thought it was possibly a dream until I was told she was gone. Also,the same day my grandfather was found dead in his chambers and my father was pointed to the throne the next day. I still to this day do know know if she was sent away or left on her own."

Katara's hand slid off of his shoulder as Zuko turned to face his uncle. "Uncle, did you ever hear anything that happened to my mom?"

Iroh looked thoughtful for a second before answering, "No nephew, I never heard anything. I am sorry. I do know that no matter what happened she was a strong woman who loved you very much and always thought of you no matter what was going on."

Zuko gave a small sad smile, "Than you uncle. I know she did."

The sound of the door opening distracted everyone,and everyone's head turned toward the sound and watched Kayleona come through.

"How was everything?,she asked as she stopped just behind Lucy and Susan.

Katara spoke up first, "It was all very good,thank you!"

Everyone else gave overlapping comments in likeness to Katara's.

Kayleona smiled brightly, "I'm so glad. Could I take some of the empty plates from the table?"

Katara and Zuko both started grabbing a few of the empty plates within their reach and them and slid them over between Lucy and Katara so Kayleona could get them easily.

Kayleona looked surprised and pleased as she saw the guests helping out. "Oh, thank you!"

She grabbed the two small stacks of dishes. "would you like another round of tea?"

Iroh spoke up, his tone jovial, "Yes,please! That first kind was very good! "

Grins broke out across the rest of the table at his enthusiasm.

"How about a dessert,tea this time,then?" Kayleona offered with an amused smile.

Peter answered this time, "Yes that would be great,thank you."

Kayleona nodded before heading back out through the door again.

Susan cleared her throat softly before saying, "Well I think that's enough for now,its been a long day for you three. We can hear the rest of your stories tomorrow. What does everyone think?"

Zuko spoke up, "Agreed. And,thank you."

Iroh and Katara echoed their agreement and thanks.

Lucy,Peter,and Edmund nodded.

Lucy suddenly turned to Katara , " Katara, after this round of tea could you show me your bending? You,too,Iroh and Zuko if you don't mind and feel up to it." Her eyes shone with anticipation and curiosity.

Edmund started to cut in, "Lu, I don't think-"

Katara looked at Edmund,then Lucy,smiling, "No, I don't mind at all."

Iroh supplied, "Nor do I ,miss Lucy. Zuko?"

Zuko looked at his uncle before saying, "Yeah,sure."

Lucy couldn't contain her excitement, " Great! We could go down to the small stream for it. There is water for Katara,and plenty of open space for Iroh and Zuko."

Edmund put in, "Sounds good to me, also along the way we can show them around a little bit."

Susan and Peter shrugged as they couldn't think of anything better or any reason to oppose the ideas brought up by their younger siblings.

Kayleona came through the door with a fresh pot of tea. She placed it on the table between Katara and Lucy.

"Okay this tea is lovely peach tea. I think it will go rather well with the scones you have left as a dessert tea."

Susan smiled at her as she thanked her.

Kayleona smiled, "Of course,enjoy everyone!" before heading back out the door.

It smelled amazing.

They took turns pouring themselves tea and choosing a scone to go with it.

When they were done , Katara, Zuko and Iroh felt pleasantly stuffed. So,was everyone else but it was more apparent on their faces.

Iroh commented lazily, " That was a perfect tea for ending such a wonderful lunch. I do think it may be a new favorite aside from Jasmine and Ginseng."

Zuko looked surprised then smiled at his uncle, "Wow that's a pretty big compliment,uncle!"

He turned to everyone else before adding , "You guys don't know how serious he takes his tea."

Iroh laughed, and lovingly clapped Zuko's shoulder, "It's true!"

– entering Katara POV-

I couldn't help a small smile at seeing Zuko interacting with Iroh in such a way. It seems small to those that had less of a clue than I did,but it was nice to see. From what I was told earlier,and from what I had gathered from the past sparse,tense interactions with Zuko, he didn't let himself or get to interact with his uncle in such a way very much at all. So it brought a small smile to my face seeing them able to do that.

Lucy chimed in pulling me from my thoughts, "Well good thing we have plenty of tea!"

Everyone smiled at her comment in apparent agreement.

I stretched my arms over my head before pushing my chair back and looking at everyone else somewhat expectantly as I stood, " Are you guys ready?"

~^~^~I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter, it wasnt easy to write at times but I must admit this is a very fun way to challenge myself.
