Laverre City Gym Battles (Part One)
Kevin, Nazz, Jonny, and Rolf all pass the time until Valerie returns by going over strategies they can use in their gym battles with her.
"We know she's gonna use Mawile first." said Kevin. "The pokedex says that it's part steel type, so poison type moves aren't going to do much good against it."
"Yeah, you should save your Beedrill for later." said Jonny.
"Yes, Rolf will use a Pokemon that can do good against the steel type." said Rolf. After some more talk, Rolf heads out onto the arena floor and waits for Valerie to return.
Ten minutes later, she does, and goes to her side of the battlefield.
"I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long." said Valerie.
"Do not worry." said Rolf. "Rolf is very patient."
"I'm glad to hear that." said Valerie. "Let us begin." The girl who acted as referee during the battle between Carter and Valerie steps out onto the field.
"This gym battle is between the gym leader, Valerie; and the challenger, Rolf." said the girl. "Each trainer will use three Pokemon; whoever manages to knock out all their opponent's Pokemon first will be the winner. Let the battle begin." The girl steps off the field and Valerie and Rolf each take out a pokeball. Valerie throws her pokeball, releasing her Mawile; Rolf throws his, releasing his Diggersby.
"Mawile, use Iron Head!" said Valerie. Mawile's forehead turns metallic gray as it charges at Diggersby and rams into him. Fortunately, he doesn't flinch.
"Diggersby, use Mud Shot!" said Rolf. Diggersby flings a large glob of mud at Mawile, hitting it, doing super effective damage, and lowering its speed. "Now use Mud-Slap!" Diggersby then flings more mud at Mawile, into its eyes, lowering its accuracy.
"Mawile, use Crunch!" said Valerie. Mawile runs at Diggersby and uses the large set of jaws coming out of the top of its head to bite down on him and hurts him, along with weakening his defense.
"Diggersby, use Double Kick!" said Rolf. Diggersby hits Mawile with two strong kicks, making it stagger back a bit.
"Mawile, use Fake Tears!" said Valerie. Mawile fakes crying, making Diggersby flustered and lowering his special defense.
"Diggersby, use Mud Shot again!" said Rolf. Diggersby launches more large globs of mud at Mawile, doing enough super effective damage to knock it out.
"Mawile is unable to battle. Diggersby is the winner." said the referee.
"Way to go, man!" said Kevin.
"Keep it up, Rolf!" said Nazz. Valerie then returns Mawile to its pokeball.
"You fought bravely, Mawile." said Valerie. She then puts Mawile's pokeball away and pulls out another one off her sash; she then throws it, releasing her Mr. Mime. "Mr. Mime, use Psychic!" Mr. Mime's eyes glow blue, creating an aura around Diggersby that lifts him off the ground; then slams him back down onto it.
"Diggersby, use Flail!" said Rolf. Diggersby then starts moving towards Mr. Mime while flailing his ears around.
"Mr. Mime, use Reflect!" said Valerie. Mr. Mime creates a large wall of light in front of itself that absorbs most of the power from Diggersby's attack.
"Diggersby, use Leer!" said Rolf. Diggersby stares harshly at Mr. Mime, making it nervous and lowering its defense.
"Mr. Mime, use Dazzling Gleam!" said Valerie. Mr. Mime releases a large flash of light from its body which hits Diggersby and knocks him out.
"Diggersby is unable to battle. Mr. Mime is the winner." said the referee.
"Splendid job, Mr. Mime." said Valerie. Mr. Mime waves back at her in response. Rolf returns his Diggersby to his pokeball.
"You did well, Diggersby." said Rolf.
"Don't give up, Rolf!" said Nazz.
"You can still win!" said Jonny. Rolf nods as he puts Diggersby's pokeball away and pulls out another one; he then throws it, releasing his Beedrill.
"Beedrill, use Poison Sting!" said Rolf. Beedrill then releases a spray of needles at Mr. Mime, hitting it, and doing super effective damage. Mr. Mime started to look ill.
"Mr. Mime's poisoned, dude." said Kevin.
"Mr. Mime, use Psychic!" said Valerie. Mr. Mime uses his psychic power to launch Beedrill into a wall, doing super effective damage. It then takes some damage from the poisoning.
"Beedrill, use Assurance!" said Rolf. Beedrill then thrusts her stingers while they were coated in dark energy and they strike Mr. Mime, hurting it, althought Reflect absorbed some of the attack.
"Mr. Mime, use Psychic one more time." said Valerie. Mr. Mime then uses its psychic power to slam Beedrill into the ground and knock it out.
"Beedrill is unable to battle. Mr. Mime is the winner." said the referee.
"Well done, Mr. Mime." said Valerie. Mr. Mime nods in response, then flinches as it takes some damage from the poison in it.
"Dude, that Mr. Mime is tough." said Kevin.
"Rolf's down to one last Pokemon." said Nazz.
"Rolf can still win this!" said Jonny. Rolf then returns Beedrill to her pokeball.
"Beedrill did her best." said Rolf before putting Beedrill's pokeball away and pulls out his last one. He then throws it, releasing his Delphox. "Delphox, use Mystical Fire!" Delphox uses her staff to create a ring of fire in the air and then releases another stream of fire through it at Mr. Mime, hitting it, and knocking it out.
"Mr. Mime is unable to battle. Delphox is the winner." said the referee.
"Way to go, Rolf!" said Nazz.
"Awesome, man!" said Kevin.
"Rolf is pleased with Delphox." said Rolf. Delphox looks at Rolf and bows his head towards him. Valerie returns Mr. Mime to its pokeball.
"You did well, Mr. Mime." said Valerie. She then puts Mr. Mime's pokeball away and pulls out her last one. She throws it, releasing her Sylveon.
"Delphox, use Light Screen!" said Rolf. Delphox creates her own wall of light in front of himself.
"Sylveon, use Swift!" said Valerie. Sylveon launches a barrage of stars at Delphox, with most being blocked by his Light Screen.
"Delphox, use Flame Charge!" said Rolf. Delphox moves quickly towards Sylveon while coated in fire and slams into her, doing damage, as well as boosting her speed. "Now use Psyshock!" Delphox creates a purple ball of energy out in front of her and releases a blast of energy from it, hitting Sylveon, and damaging her.
"Sylveon, use Dazzling Gleam!" said Valerie. Sylveon releases a flash of light from her body which hits Delphox, barely doing any damage due to her being part fire, as well as her Light Screen.
"Delphox, use Mystical Fire one last time!" said Rolf. Delphox creates another ring of fire and releases another stream of fire that hits Sylveon and knocks it out.
"Sylveon is unable to battle. Delphox is the winner. The winner of the gym battle is the challenger, Rolf." said the referee.
"Rolf won!" said Jonny.
"That was so rad!" said Nazz.
"You said it." said Kevin.
"Rolf is pleased!" said Rolf. Valerie then returns her Sylveon to her pokeball.
"You did your best, Sylveon." said Valerie. She puts the pokeball away and walks over to Rolf and Delphox. "I must say that your Delphox is quite extraordinary. Perhaps I can make a dress with his coloring."
"That would be so cool!" said Nazz. Valerie then takes out a Fairy Badge out from her sash.
"As proof of your victory, I present you with the Fairy Badge." said Valerie as she hands it, along with some pokedollars, to Rolf.
"Very good." said Rolf. He then holds his new badge up into the air in triumph. "Rolf has won the Fairy Badge!" His friends cheer for him, making Valerie look towards them.
"Who am I battling next?" asked Valerie.
"I will." said Jonny, standing up.
"Very well. Once I get my Pokemon healed, I will battle you once I return." said Valerie.
"Rolf will also get his Pokemon healed." said Rolf. He and Valerie walk out the gym doors. Jonny gives Plank to Nazz and runs out to the arena. Several minutes later, Rolf and Valerie both return. Valerie walks to one end of the arena while Rolf joins Kevin and Nazz on the bleachers.
"I thank you for your patience." Valerie says to Jonny.
"No problem." said Jonny. The girl acting as a referee walks to the center of the arena.
"This gym battle is between the gym leader, Valerie; and the challenger, Jonny." said the girl. "Each trainer will use three Pokemon; whoever manages to knock out all their opponent's Pokemon first will be the winner. Let the battle begin." The girl steps off the field and Valerie and Jonny each take out a pokeball.
"Mawile, go!" said Valerie, throwing Mawile's pokeball and releasing it.
"Krokorok, come out!" said Jonny, throwing Krokorok's pokeball, releasing her. "Okay,Krokorok, use Mud-Slap!" Krokorok opens her mouth and fires a stream of mud out of it and it hits Mawile, dealing super effective damage and more thanks to Krokorok's Soft Sand powering up her ground type moves. Some mud was in Mawile's eyes, lowering her accuracy.
"Good move, man!" said Kevin.
"Mawile, try using Play Rough!" said Valerie. Mawile leaps at Krokorok and surrounds her with thick white smoke. Mawile then smacks Krokorok repeatedly with her metal jaws, dealing super effective due to fairy type moves being strong against dark type or in Krokorok's case, part dark.
"Use Dig!" said Jonny. Krokorok digs herself into the ground.
"Iron Defense!" said Valerie. Mawile's body glows white and it shines. Krokorok bursts out of the arena floor and rams Mawile, dealing super effective damage.
"Use Mud-Slap again!" said Jonny. Krokorok sprays another stream of mud out of her mouth, and it hits Mawile, dealing super effective damage to it and further lowering its accuracy.
"Use Play Rough again!" said Valerie. Mawile leaps at Krokorok, but goes right past her due to her lowered accuracy.
"Sand Tomb!" said Jonny. Krokorok's eyes glow blue, and a cyclone of sand appears from below Mawile and surrounds her, dealing super effective damage and knocking it out.
"Mawile is unable to battle. Krokorok wins the match." said the referee. Krokorok begins surging with energy.
"Looks like that Moxie ability activated." said Nazz. Valerie returns Mawile to its pokeball.
"You were splendid, Mawile." said Valerie. She puts Mawile's pokeball away and pulls out another pokeball. "Mr. Mime, go!" She throws Mr. Mime's pokeball and releases it.
"Krokorok, use Bite!" said Jonny. Krokorok leaps at Mr. Mime.
"Use Reflect!" said Valerie. Mr. Mime forms a glass square in front of it before getting bit by Krokorok, absorbing most of the damage. "Use Dazzling Gleam!" Mr. Mime releases a sparkling bright light from its body, and it hits Krokorok, dealing super effective damage.
"Use Crunch!" said Jonny. Krokorok runs at Mr. Mime while her teeth were glowing white and bites Mr. Mime, dealing damage to it and weakening its special defense.
"Double Slap!" said Valerie. Mr. Mime runs at Krokorok and slaps her across the face three times.
"Sand Tomb!" said Jonny. Krokorok's eyes glowed blue and a sand cyclone appears from below Mr. Mime, and it surrounds it, dealing damage.
"Dazzling Gleam!" said Valerie. Mr. Mime releases another bright light from its body, and it hits Krokokok, knocking her out.
"Krokorok is unable to battle. Mr. Mime wins the match." said the referee.
"Wonderful, Mr. Mime." said Valerie.
"Don't worry, man." said Kevin.
"Rolf is rooting for you." said Rolf. Jonny returns Krokorok to her pokeball.
"You were great, Krokokok." said Jonny. He puts Krokorok's pokeball away and pulls out another pokeball. "Come out, Charizard!" He throws Charizard's pokeball and releases him. "Use Flame Burst!" Charizard fires a fireball out of his mouth, and it hits Mr. Mime, dealing more damage due to its special defense being weakened by Krokorok's Crunch, and knocking it out.
"Mr. Mime is unable to battle. Charizard wins the match." said the referee.
"Way to go, Charizard!" said Jonny. Charizard roars in response.
"Go, Jonny." said Nazz. Valerie returns Mr. Mime to its pokeball.
"You were marvelous, Mr. Mime." said Valerie. She puts Mr. Mime's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Sylveon, come out!" She throws Sylveon's pokeball and releases her.
'Remember, Jonny, no physical attacks. That Sylveon has that Cute Charm ability.' Jonny thinks to himself.
"Sylveon, use Quick Attack!" said Valerie. Sylveon runs at Charizard with incredible speed and rams him, making him take a step back.
"Charizard, Ember!" said Jonny. Charizard releases embers from his mouth and they hit Sylveon, damaging her.
"Use Swift!" said Valerie. Sylveon releases stars from her body and they hit Charizard, damaging him.
"Flame Burst!" said Jonny. Charizard fires a fireball out of his mouth, and it hits Sylveon, damaging her.
"Swift again!" said Valerie. Sylveon releases more stars at Charizard, hitting it. Some of the stars land near Jonny, making him shield his face with his arm. He looks at his wrist and sees his Mega Ring.
"Time to see what Charizard's Mega Form is like." said Jonny. He lifts up his arm that had his Mega Ring with the Charizardite on it. Energy comes out of Jonny's body while strands of energy come out of Charizard's body, and both strands of energy connect. Jonny touches his Mega Stone and Charizard becomes surrounded by a bright light. When the light clears, Charizard was sleaker, his torso was thinner and longer, he had three pointed horns on the back of his head, he had longer fangs, he had wings on his wrists while the wings on his back were longer, and had three small spikes near the tip of his tail, which had a larger flame on it now. Jonny looked with amazement at Mega Charizard. "Wow, cool!"
"Awesome!" said Kevin.
"Rolf is amazed by Jonny's Charizard's new form." said Rolf.
"Go, Jonny!" said Nazz and unbeknownst to everyone, Plank.
"Sylveon, Swift!" said Sylveon. Sylveon unleashes more stars at Charizard.
"Flame Burst!" said Jonny. Mega Charizard Y releases a massive fireball from its mouth at Sylveon, breaking through all the stars Sylveon released and it hits Sylveon, creating a massive explosion, making Valerie and Jonny shield themselves with their arms. When the smoke from the explosion cleared, Sylveon was lying on the ground with swirly eyes.
"Sylveon is unable to battle. Mega Charizard wins. The winner of this gym battle is the challenger, Jonny." said the referee.
"We did it, Charizard, I mean, Mega Charizard!" cheered Jonny. Mega Charizard returns to his regular form. Jonny runs to Charizard and hugs him.
"That was awesome!" said Kevin.
"Rolf is impressed with the power of Jonny's Mega Charizard." said Rolf. Valerie returns Sylveon to her pokeball.
"I'm proud of you, Sylveon." said Valerie. She puts Sylveon's pokeball away and walks to Jonny. "I must say, Jonny, I never expected a Mega Evolution in our gym battle."
"Nope." said Jonny. Valerie reaches into her pocket and pulls out a Fairy Badge.
"For your victory here, I reward you with the Fairy Badge." said Valerie. She gives Jonny the Fairy Badge, along with pokedollars.
"Yeah! I just won the Fairy Badge!" cheered Jonny, raising his Fairy Badge up in the air. Valerie turned towards the others.
"Which of you will be battling me, next?" asked Valerie.
"I guess I will." replied Kevin.
"We will have our battle once I return after I get my Pokemon healed." said Valerie.
"I'm going to get Krokorok and Charizard treated too, guys." said Jonny. He returns Charizard to his pokeball and he and Valerie exit the gym while Kevin walks to the arena. Rolf and Jonny have earned their sixth badges; will Kevin and Nazz accomplish the same feat?
