DM Margo and the Magic Rainbow Puddle

It was raining and Margo was having fun jumping in and out of puddles. ''Yay!'' she said. Even after it stopped raining, Margo kept jumping in the puddles. A rainbow appeared ending in one of the puddles when Margo's back was turned. When she saw it she was amazed. ''Wow!'' she said. Margo walked closer to the rainbow, she found she could even put her hand inside the colours. ''Oh!'' she said. She stepped fully inside in the rainbows. After a minute, it disappeared. Margo walked away and then heard a splosh, she turned back round and saw that a frog had jumped out of the same puddle the rainbow had been in. ''How could you fit in a puddle?'' she asked the frog, ''It's not deep enough! Nice froggy, nice froggy'' she said, cooing at him.

''You found me, but you'll never catch'' said the frog jumping back into the puddle. Margo got down on her knees and stuck her hand in the puddle to try and find the frog, but she couldn't. ''Where are you froggy?'' she said. The frog appeared on her head as if by magic. ''You'll never catch me'' he said, ''I'm Ferningham the frog that lives in the puddle at the end of the rainbow'' and he jumped back into the puddle again. Soon Ferningham jumped out again onto the other side of the puddle. ''And who might you be?'' he asked. ''I'm Margo'' said Margo who was unsure what to make of what she was experiencing.

''Well Margo as you might suppose'' said Ferningham, ''I'm a magic frog''. To Margo's surprise, the frog's reflection on the puddle seamed to be taking in turns to talk and move with him! ''And as you might also suppose'' Ferningham went on, ''I grant wishes. One wish for finding me, one wish for catching me and one more for kissing me''. He blew a kiss at Margo, ''Ew!'' she said. ''Well I don't like the idea any more than you do, but rules are rules'' said Ferningham, ''Anyway I wouldn't worry, I've never been caught, I've never been kissed'' and he jumped into the puddle yet again. Margo leaned over closer and Ferningham stuck his head out spitting water in her face. ''So one wish for finding me, what's it to be?'' he asked. Margo wasn't sure what to wish for. ''Don't take all day, when the puddle dries, so does the magic'' tutted Ferningham.

''Er'' said Margo. ''Oh come on! Come on!'' said Ferningham impatiently. ''I know I wish I could catch you!'' said Margo, she reached into the puddle and picked Ferningham out. ''I caught you! I caught you!'' she said stroking him with one finger. ''Yes you caught me Margo'' said Ferningham, ''So you 've had one wish for finding me and there's one to come I suppose for catching me'', he shuddered suddenly, ''Oh no, you're not going to kiss me are you? Yuck!''. ''Oh I didn't think of that'' said Margo, ''I wish I didn't have to kiss you Ferningham!''. ''Granted!'' said Ferningham, ''You don't have to kiss me, in fact I'd rather you didn't. Two wishes gone'' he finished.

''But they're not proper wishes'' said Margo, ''Not magic ones. I wished to catch you and I did. I wished that I didn't have to kiss you and I didn't. That's not magic''. ''Well I'd like to know what is'' said Ferningham. ''But they're just little things'' said Margo, ''Magic is when big things happen. Are you sure you're a magic frog Ferningham?''. ''Am I a magic frog?'' asked Ferningham taken aback, ''I'll show you if I'm a magic frog or not Margo. You want something big, well here's big!''. Margo didn't know what he meant. ''Is that big enough?'' said Ferningham pointing. Margo looked down and found herself sitting on the back of a huge elephant. She gasped with surprise as the elephant trumpeted. ''Well what do you think Margo?'' asked Ferningham, ''Do you think I'm a magic frog now?''.

The elephant trumpeted again but much louder this time and while Margo held her ears Ferningham slid down into his puddle. Then the elephant walked around and stuck its trunk in the puddle making Ferningham jump out again. He watched in horror as the elephant began drinking up the water of the puddle. ''Don't do that! Don't do that!'' Don't let it drink!'' he cried. But it was too late. The elephant had sucked up the puddle within second then pointed its trunk at the sky and squirted out the puddle water into the air making a little light rain shower for a brief moment. ''My puddle! My puddle!'' wailed Ferningham, ''My puddle! Oh what have you done to my puddle?''.

''Er there are lots of other puddles Ferningham'' said Margo reassuringly, then she pointed, ''Other there''. ''Other puddles?'' said Ferningham who was devastated and heartbroken by what had just happened. He threw himself on the ground crying and sobbing, ''You don't understand. I need my puddle! My magic rainbow puddle! I can't get back without it!''. ''You mean you can't get back where you come from, back home?'' asked Margo in surprise. Ferningham nodded and sniffled. ''We need the last wish'' said Margo and she lifted the elephant's ear to whisper in it. The elephant picked up Ferningham suddenly, ''Put me down!'' he said as he was raised till he was face to face with Margo. ''Keep still I'm going to kiss you Ferningham'' said Margo and she did, ''I wish for a rainbow!''.

Instantly it started to rain again and the rainbow appeared once more. Ferningham cheered up at once when he saw it. ''There it is! There it is over there!'' he said pointing, ''Behind you Margo!''. The elephant trumpeted again. ''Giddy up!'' Margo told it and they set off to the rainbow which was sticking into a puddle like it did before. ''Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!'' said Ferningham and jumped onto Margo's head again, ''Look out for me won't you?'' he said and with that, he jumped into the rainbow and into his magic puddle. The rainbow disappeared. The elephant lifted Margo down from its back onto the ground and disappeared too almost instantly.

Margo stepped cautiously into the puddle and got down on her knees again to for a closer look. There was no sign of Ferningham now. So she got up on her feet once more and headed for home. She would have lots to tell her family about the day's events with the magic rainbow.
