Dragons Rising Episode 4, Beyond Madness
A fire crackles loudly in the center of the Cragling Village. Arin and Sora look over to the other table where Lloyd and Nya are. Nya has her head in her hands while Lloyd stares at his bowl of mud.
He raises his head and asks in a trembling voice, "Kai's… gone?"
Nya wipes her eyes, trying to get rid of the tears that had begun to form. Quietly she answers him, "I searched everywhere for him. I don't want to lose hope, but it's hard not to."
Lloyd reaches over and pulls Nya in for a hug as they both silently grieve.
Elsewhere, Kai rounds a boulder and sets his left hand on fire, using it as a torch. He squints to try and see through the fog that surrounds him before throwing his head back and with a groan, says, "Oh, I'm starving. Ugh, how far away is that Cragling Village?"
As he continues walking he keeps talking to himself, saying, "I could really use a cool mud bath right now. And a mud dinner. Mmm."
Squinting again, Kai manages to make out the gate that leads into the Cragling Village.
"Alright! My lucky day!" He exclaims, but as he walks a bit further his eyes widen as he catches sight of the two earth dragons that lay in his path.
With a gulp he quietly tries to sneak past the dragons, but ends up tripping over a rock - letting out a scream that is definitely very manly and not at all high pitched - and lands face first up against one of them. For some reason the dragon he landed on doesn't wake up, his shoulders slump slightly in relief at that. But instead the other dragon wakes up, spots him, and roars loudly, causing the dragon that Kai is still leaning against to grunt and wake up, its eyes narrow as it sees Kai in front of it.
Laughing nervously, Kai raises a hand and waves slightly at the dragon, saying in a nervous voice, "Hey there."
Back in the Cragling Village, Nya and Lloyd are still wrapped up in a hug, while Arin looks down at his mud and asks, "Kai's really gone?" He then looks up and exclaims, "He was my favorite ninja!"
Sora turns to him and gives him a look, Arin taps his fingers together nervously and amends his statement, "Second favorite."
Nya pulls away from Lloyd and says with determination, "This isn't only about saving the Craglings. It's about taking down the dragons that destroyed my brother."
Riyu turns his head towards the gate as he hears a faint scream from outside.
Lloyd gets up and walks over to Sora and Arin's table, he gestures to them as he tells Nya, "We can all help. Sora and Arin are training to become ninja. Sora has elemental powers, and Arin taught himself a strange form of Spinjitzu."
Nya shakes her head in disbelief at the last part, saying, "You can't teach yourself Spinjitzu."
"I know." Lloyd agrees, "But he did. My students are new, but they're good and ready to fight."
Stepping closer to Nya, Lloyd adds, "Kai was your brother, but he was also one of my best friends, and my boyfriend."
Another scream comes from beyond the Cragling Village, and Lloyd continues, saying, "It's almost as if I can hear Kai's cries for help in my head."
The others all look up and around as they hear Kai's voice yell, "Nya? Nya? Help!"
"You're not imagining that." Nya says, her eyes shining with joy as they all race outside.
Out from the fog they all see Kai running as fast as he can towards him, but they're too far away to see the expression of terror on his face.
"Kai! You're still alive!" Nya exclaims.
Kai spots them and immediately shouts, "I made a terrible mistake!"
Then they see the two earth dragons also run out of the fog, chasing after Kai.
"You brought the dragons right to us?" Nya says in disbelief, "I'm gonna kill you!" she shouts, balling her hands into fists as she starts to walk towards her brother.
Lloyd grabs her shoulder and says to her, "Okay, now remember: don't just rush in. We need a battle pla–"
But Nya shrugs off his hand and cuts him off, saying, "Forget all that." and then proceeds to charge at the dragons, just as Kai manages to make it to where Lloyd is standing.
He turns back to watch his sister throw a water blast straight at one of the dragons, hitting it in the face. Then he blinks and glances over his shoulder, catching sight of Lloyd behind him.
"Oh, hey, Greenie! When'd you get here?" He says, darting over to give Lloyd a quick peck on the cheek. He then looks over at Arin and Sora, turns back to Lloyd and gestures at the two kids, asking, "And whose kids are they? Did you adopt them or something?" He gasps and then shouts excitedly, "Are we parents now!?"
"What?! No! They're no–" Lloyd exclaims, but his boyfriend cuts him off, saying, "Ooo! What're their names?! I've always wanted kids!"
While Lloyd tries to explain to his boyfriend how Arin and Sora are actually his students, and not his kids. Sora leans over to Arin and asks him, "Uh, since when were they dating?"
"I don't know." Arin says, scratching his head in confusion, "I never heard anything about any of the ninjas having partners other than Nya and Jay and Zane and Pixal."
Just then a huge blast from a fireball draws their attention back to Nya who is currently fighting both dragons by herself.
"Ugh! Forget it for a second! We're kinda in the middle of a battle here!" Lloyd exclaims, throwing his arms in the air, "Now are we going to help your sister or not?"
Later, after the battle with the dragons:
The three ninja, plus Arin, Sora, and Riyu, are all on the new Bounty, heading back towards the Monastery after saying goodbye to the Craglings.
Nya is at the wheel, steering, while Kai and Lloyd are sitting together at the front of the ship, legs hanging off over the edge. Lloyd is currently catching Kai up on all that has happened since he saw him last.
Arin and Sora walk up to the two just as Lloyd is saying, "And then this morning I was training Arin on the training course when–" He cuts himself off as he notices his two students behind them, and asks, "Arin, Sora, is something wrong?"
"Oh! No. Nothing's wrong." Arin quickly assures him, "We were just wondering when, uh…" he trails off, not quite sure how to phrase his question. Luckily Sora comes to his aid and jumps in, finishing his sentence, "When you two got together. Arin and I didn't know that any of the ninja other than Nya, Jay, and Zane had a partner."
Kai and Lloyd exchange a look before bursting into laughter. Leaving Arin and Sora quite confused.
"I guess we did a good job after all, Lloyd." Kai says after he finally stops laughing.
"If this super ninja fan Arin didn't know we were dating, then I doubt the paparazzi knew."
"I'm sorry… what?" Sora says, feeling left out and very confused.
"Kai and I were trying to hide our relationship from the press, ya know, to avoid all the questions and annoying fans that we saw always bugging Jay, Nya, Zane, and Pixal about their relationships." Lloyd explains, "I didn't think we were doing a good job at it. Wait, no, correction. I didn't think Kai was doing a good job at it. Since he's always protecting me and hardly ever leaves my side ever, no matter what we're doing. It seemed pretty obvious to me."
"Well I had no idea. I think everyone just saw all that as Kai being an overprotective friend or something." Arin says.
"So when did you two get together?"
"Oh man." Lloyd says, leaning against Kai for a moment as he tries to remember. "It's been so long, I don't know if I remember exactly when."
"Wasn't it a few weeks after that whole thing with Morro and the cursed realm?" Kai asks.
"Yeah… Yeah! You're right! Cuz that's around when Jay, Nya, and Cole started getting a lot of attention cuz of Dareth and that whole teen magazine thing!" Lloyd says, eyes widening in remembrance. "I'm pretty sure that's when and why we decided to keep our relationship private." He adds.
"I don't remember a magazine about Jay, Nya, and Cole." Arin says.
"That might have been before you were born, bud." Kai tells him, "Wait… how old are you two anyway? Lloyd?"
Lloyd blinks for a moment before saying with a sheepish grin, "I've, uh, actually never asked them…"
Kai just gives his boyfriend a deadpan expression and then sighs and says, "Of course you haven't, why am I not surprised."
Turning to Arin and Sora, Kai asks them, "Well, how old are you guys?"
"Oh, I'm fifteen, and Sora is sixteen." Arin answers.
"Yeah, you were like five-ish when all that was going down. So I'm not surprised that you don't remember the whole love triangle thing." Lloyd says.
"Huh?!" Arin and Sora exclaim. But Lloyd waves a hand and says, "Ask one of them about it, it's their drama to share. And I do NOT want to open up that can of worms again."
"Speaking of my sister… she looks like she's about to fall asleep at the wheel, someone should probably take over steering from her." Kai says, looking back at his sister.
"I'll go do that, you should get some rest too, didn't you get thrown across a mountain by a flying boulder?" Lloyd says.
"Noted, I guess I could use some shut eye." Kai agrees.
"And I'll go check on Riyu, I think he's still sleeping." Arin says, walking off to find the dragon.
"I should probably keep working on fixing up my mech." Sora states as she goes over to the pile of parts that belong to her mech.
Lloyd sighs and wonders what destiny has in store for him and his friends next.
