The Owl Sisters I: Sisters in Demon World Chapter 9- Palismen Panic

The quintet was the slayground, with the sign that said all monsters must be leashed with Luz being worried.

"What if he gets hurt? What if the kids are mean to him? My parental instincts are freaking out, man," Luz said.

"Realx, sis. King's fine. See?" Luz said as the little demon climbed the slide.

"It's about us, making sure he doesn't hurt anyone else," Celestia said.

"Stand back, cretins. This is a throne worthy of a tyrant. Bow to me you snotty underlings. Bow!"

"The kids looked at him and bowed.

"Yes, appease your master," King grinned a bit.

A kid with a snot rocket walked up behind him.

"This isn't for standing, it's for sliding you try," he pushed him down the slide.

"Eda! That monster took my throne!" King whined at her.

"The one with the snot problems?" Eda teases him.

"No, the usurper. Lana, I want to use your fighting moves to beat him up."

"Dude, I'm not beating a little kid, that'll make me a bully."

"Fine then! Eda, can you or Celestia blow him up for me," Eda pleaded.

"Sorry, I'm not using Owlbert to blow up a five-year-old," Eda said, unscrewing Owlbert from her staff. The Palisman hummed, awake, and jumped on her arm. Smiling, Eda placed him in her lap. "He has better things to do. There you go..."

"Like I'm using Philomena for something that stupid," Celestia said as Eda scratched the little owl under her wing, causing it to rattle softly. Really like scratching.

"Oh, how cute." Luz smiled.

"Question: where did you get them?" Lana asked.

"Get them? Kid, we made them from an ancient tree."

"They are our Palismans, we're bonded for life. And if anyone hurts my partner, I will scorch their skin alive."

"And I feed them to every vile beat in the realm ever known."

Both twins stepped back, terrified.

"Good! Revenge will be even sweeter if they fall by my hand alone," The dog proclaimed and laughed.

However, the Usurper came up behind him again and shoved King. Forcing him to land face first on the ground. "Tag, you're it!" he said, laughing and running away.

"Oh, man. Here we go. King squeaks of rage." Eda grinned, expecting King to freak out in excitement.

All three watched as the King hummed and stood up again. And then the fire threw a tantrum, emitting a high-pitched squeal. He paused for a moment before he continued to squeal, rushing after his rival. All the while, Eda laughed at his scream.

"Are you sure he's not a girl?" Lana asked, tilting her head from how feminine that squeal sounded.

"No he's more of a little teapot," snorted Eda.

Luz looked at Eda again before she noticed that Owlbert was scratching his face. When he did, she noticed an oddly shaped hole in his leg. "Hey, what's that?" she asked, pointing at it.

"It's his blocking. So it only fits my staff," Eda explained, grabbing her staff as Owlbert jumped off her shoulder and stood on the back of the bench. "Every palisman has," Eda stop mid sentence then consciousness and fell forward.

"Eda!" Celestia grabbed her before she fell down and placed her on the bench.

"Eda? Eda, can you hear us?!" Luz asked.

"Wake up, boss lady!"

Eda opened her eyes if she had a bad dream which meant only one thing.

"Are you alright, Eda?" Celestia asked.

"Oh crap, the curse. Hey, we have to get home. Now!

Eda grabs her staff and walks away, followed by Celestia, Philomena, Owlbert, and the twins with Lana calling out to him.

"King, playtime over. We have to go!"

"Can I stay for a few more minutes?"

As soon as he asked her, Lana fired a blast from her trident.

"Does that answer your question?"

"Fine! Sheesh!"

At the Owl House…

"I'll go get your elixir," Luz said while Eda was on the couch.

"Don't worry, I'll get it myself in a bit."

"No offense, but the last time you needed it, you got obsessed with Hexes Hold'em," Lana pointed out.

"Good point, but I know how to take care of myself, I had it longer than you've been alive."

"So, how did you get it?"

"I don't know?"

"You don't know? Jinx!" The twins exclaimed.

"Someone gave it to me. I don't know who, and I don't care because I'm fine, okay?" said Eda, wanting to end the conversation right now. She sat down and pointed to the kids. "Anyway, don't you two have plans for Truly and Twerpledy, and the Bacon Head?"

"Willow and Gus have their own plans, Lana and I were going with Sunset to see a grudgy game between Hexside and Glandus High," Luz said.

"Since you guys are in sports? Aside from the fighting you do, Lana," Celestia raised an eyebrow.

"I've gotten a little something called Hexside Spirit," Luz proudly said.

"I'm a sports junkie, besides I've always wanted to see magic added to sports and learn about rival schools… but we can stay back and help out.."

"Gross. Sympathy. Go! Go have fun at sports! As teacher and landlord I order you to go to have fun!" Eda said to them pointing to the door.

"Yay! Yay for sports!" exclaimed Luz.

"Thanks! You got this, right?" Lana asked Celestia.

"I got her! I'll make sure that King doesn't plot all night!"

After a while, Luz and Lana arrived at Hexside, where they heard the sound of drums.

As they walked, a bus, which looked more like a six-legged dragon and was shaped like a boat, almost bit them.

That's when they saw Sunset.

"What's up!" Lana said, seeing her.

"Happy game day, buddy, um. Are we Hexidians? Hexy?" Luz gasped. "Hexolios?

"Actually, most people call us winners," Sunset said."Grudgeby games are the best. Players go through these action-packed challenges. And spectators get to wave their flags. Look, I've been practicing."

"Is it weird that I'm not wearing anything from Hexside?" asked Luz, looking at her regular shirt.

"Hmm, it's even stranger that you're wearing Glandus colors." Said Sunset unconcernedly, pointing to the sign of the feuding school that was the same color as her hoodie. The ground suddenly shook as a giant student walked past them.

"Get ready to get creamy, Glandusa cretin," he said, pressing his finger on Luz's head.

"Hey! I'm a Hexside nerd!" replied Luz. "Gotta change into that shirt. Where do I get Hexside?"

"There's a lost and found box in the cafeteria."

"Ah! The lost and found box. Where they retire to."

"Um it's not necessary Luz." Lana said to her

"No it is necessary!" Said she was taking her hand and walking to the lost and found.

A few minutes after Luz finished dressing up, unlike Lana who refused to put anything on.

"Yeah!" exclaimed the human girl. Luz rejoiced as she sat down on the twine, but there was a sickening crackling sound.

"Uh... Are you okay?"said Lana, who cringed at the sound.

"Yeah..." replied Luz slowly, letting the pain gradually subside. "Now I know that I can't do that anymore. Where is everyone?" she asked, because there was no sign of any other students or bus besides her friends.

That was until they all looked up into the sky and saw it fly away, and for some strange reason the giant student was holding a banner and yelling. "Hexside rules! "

"Oh, no! Come back!" shouted Luz, running up, but the bus had already left. "Yes... no... Here they are..."

"Well, that's just great," Lana said, angry that they were too late. Then they noticed that their friend had also stayed behind. "Why didn't you leave?"

"I didn't want you to leave you two."

"Can we make it to Glandus?" asked Luz.

"We'll never make it. Glandus..." Sunset said "It's all the way in the middle of the island."

"Can you teleport there?" Lana suggested.

"Can't, It takes a lot of energy out of me unless we have a staff that can get us there," Sunset said.

But immediately Luz's face brightened.

"I know where we can get one," Luz smiled.

"Luz, no," Lana told her.

"Lana it's only one time," Luz whined.

"Hermana, Eda made it crystal clear that Owlbert gets hurt in any way she will kill us!" Lana told her but Luz gave her the puppy eyes. "Damn not the puppy eyes, okay fine you win! Get the little dude."

When they got back they were waiting for Luz by the front door.

"So how exciting are you for coming to Hexside?" Sunset asked.

"I'm hoping it will go a lot smoother than the last time we've been there," Lana said.

Then immediately Luz came out with Eda's staff.

"To school Glandus!" yelled Luz, unaware that she had awakened Palisman. "Oh! Sorry, Owlbert. It's all right. We're just going to go help out Sunset. "Who's ready to board Air Luz"

"Wait a minute," Lana spoke up. "What makes you think you'll fly it?" She said since he'd never flown a staff before and he wanted to try.

"Well because I flew on him before unlike you," Said Luz and immediately smiled mockingly. "And because I first called dibs."

"You had to use the dibs rules, didn't you?" Lana sticks her tongue at her then three were on the stick.

"Next stop, Glandus High. Let's go," she commanded as Sovbert soared through the air and into the eye-shaped window. "Step on it, Owlbert."

But immediately the staff rushed forward very quickly, and Luz had no control. Eventually they dashed through the forest, bumping into trees.

"Luz give me control!" Lana grabbed his staff trying to stop it.

"No it's okay!" She said, trying to push her sister away from the controls. "I'm in control-"

Immediately, however, Lana accidentally tilted the staff to the ground and they crashed, falling off the staff, Sunset landing on some bushes, Luz's sweater caught on a branch, which made her fall bearable, which didn't last long because Lana landed right on her with his weight out and then she screamed.

What they didn't know was nearby, Owlbert landed on his head and groaned in pain as he saw the resulting crack.

Luz groaned, standing up pushing Lucio. "Is everything all right? А?" She turned to Owlbert and watched him wriggle out, separating himself from the staff.

Immediately he flew far away from them.

"Oh, no. Oh, no, no, no! Owlbert come back!" Said Luz but the bird ignored her plea, and Lucio, who was standing beside her, immediately jumped to his feet.

"Good handling Air Luz!" Said Lana rushing off in pursuit and Sunset followed both sisters. The chase seemed to go on forever.

"Guys we have to be careful here, we can get lost in these woods pretty easily," Sunset said to them.

"We can't just leave him!" Lana said. "None of this would have happen if you didn't crack his back!"

"Hey, I didn't mean it!"

"Just shut up already!" Shouted Lana as they followed inside. As they entered, a hard crunch was heard.

"Wow. I keep stepping on crunchy twigs." Said Luz

"Actually, those are bones," said Sunset, causing Luz to look up. "Not if I never look down." After she said that, something flew right past them.

"That's not the forest I'm used to," Lana said, pulling out a large amount of cobwebs.

"That's because it's not a forest," Sunset said, causing the group to look down and see three humanoid bats that looked like children walking toward them. "It's a nest."

"Wait a minute, those are the Bat's Queen kids," Lana said.

"How do you know the Bat Queen?" Sunset asked her.

"Eda, King, and Celestia watched them while we went to the library."

Luz knelt down, holding out her staff. "Uh, we're looking for a little owl and...here it is." On seeing it, the little owl whimpered in fear, backing up a little.

Lana approached Owlbert but it backed away then something landed on the ground, making it shake, then Lana fell, when she got back to her feet she saw the Bat Queen herself.

The big bat hissed when she saw them. "Hello, little humans."

"Hey, Bat Queen, fancy you meeting here," Lana said. "We are sorry for breaking the Owl here, much less breaking into your house. My sister wanted to ride on it." Lana glared at her sister. "But she got careless with the handling. It was only a freaking accident."

"I'm aware of that. He told me everything," The Bat Queen began. "Careless handling of a staff is very serious."

"Owlbert, we never meant to hurt you..." said Luz, taking a knee. "Please, trust us." The owl whooshed, flew up, and landed on the Bat Queen's head. For a brief moment his eyes flashed a yellow light.

"Trust has to be earned..." said the Bat Queen as she and her children flew back up and landed on a rock with lots of treasure behind her. "Through... challenge!"

As she said this fire grew from three rocks on the ground, illuminating the nest, giving it some light.

"Okay…" Lana gulped.

"Luz, the Bat Queen is well known for her impossible challenges. I have never heard of anyone defeating her." Sunset whispered to her.

"But I must get Owlbert back." She turned to face her and looked at Lana then at Bat Queen. "We accept your challenge."

"Hold on, why do I have to be involved in this?" Lana said.

"This is your fault as it is mine," Luz reasoned. "Sorores semper coalescat."

"Sorores semper coalescat." Lana nodded.

"You got your work cut out from here," Sunset back up. "I'm here supporting you."

The queen raised her wings, causing the flames to soar. "Now let the trials begin!" She gave both sisters their first test by giving them a bucket.

"Milking the spider demon." The demon in question was apparently an island variety of cow with a full and all.

"Okay, really big spider," Lana said.

"Okay. Come here, buddy. Let's do this." Said Luz but when they tried to say the word, the spider jumped over her and started running away. "If you run, you're only going to make it harder on yourself!" After a while of chasing and driving the spider to exhaustion, they milked it.

"Non puke non puke," Lana said as the first flame went out.

"Put the bees' nest away." She pointed to a large tree where a nest was hanging from a branch.

Lana climbed the tree armed with her trident to cut it down but as she prepared to do that it was actually the head of a real bee monster which made her screamed but nevertheless Lana sliced it head off, making the flame got out.

"Bath the babies!" She gave their final test.

Both Lana and Luz washed them with most trying to bite them.

"Nihil hoc futurum esset si Luz Owlbert non frangeret," Lana complained as Luz sighed from hearing it.

Then the third flame went out.

"Yeah, that's the last of it. We've done all your chores around the house. And I have proven my loyalty to Owlbert." Said Luz walking over to the mascot. "I am so sorry I hurt you, Owlbert. I promise to be more careful. Will you come home?"

The little owl hooted, nodded its head, and flew towards her. When everything seemed to be over, the Bat Queen raised her claw, trapping Owlbert.

"No! More traces. Last test. You must meet me face to face." To their shock, a large flame erupted from behind the Bat Queen. "What?" She didn't have time to react when a large bat roared over Luz only for Lana to push her out of the way in time then brought her trident.

"What the hell, lady! We have completed your tests fair! Let that owl go already!

"You'll never get him back!" The bat roared as it tore through it, flying towards Lana, who rolled to the side.

Sunset tried to help them but baby bats blocked her.

"You bats want to dance?" Sunset said. "Then let's dance."

Sunset did a spell circle and what came out was a large sword with flames on it.

Meanwhile, the Bat Queen chased after the twins.

"We have a square deal, we did your trials, that mean Owlbert should back to us, since when did you don't honor your deal."

Bat Queen lunged at Luz forcing her to keep away with the staff.

"Hold on, Luz!" Lana pulled a Lighting Glyph and her Dragon Threat go to Lighting Mode

But then Luz gasped as she noticed something on her right claw.

"Is this a blockage?" Hearing this, her brother stopped and noticed the symbol. "Queen of the Bats, you were on the staff, weren't you? You were a palisman!" The Bat Queen gasped as she got to her feet, her eyes wide in shock. "You were once a Palisman, weren't you?"

"What now?!" Lana said in shock that the giant bat was also someone's staff.

The Bat Queen only lifted her foot, glancing at the very symbol that all Palismans had before closing her eyes and looking away, now knowing that her secret was out, a secret she had kept for a long time."Yes, I was once part of a great staff. A staff made for a giant! But I was broken, thrown out."

"So why don't you want to give it to Owlbert?" Lana asked her.

"I protect... everyone!" Her eyes glowed with a bright yellow light, and when that happened, dozens of other eyes came into view, glowing much to Luz and Lucio's shock, all eyes belonged to Palismans. There were so many of them, they were all different animals, not only birds, but also snakes, insects, frogs and even a monkey with four faces, all had scars. "I returned home to the forest. I'm here to take back what's been lost. Forgotten."

"Bat Queen, now we understand. But Owlbert is not forgotten and never will be forgotten. I have known him since childhood, he has those who love and care for him very much."

"He won't come back with you," said the Bat Queen, turning and walking away.

"It's not your decision!" Luz aruged.

Lana blasted a lighting beam at her which shocked her then Lana kicked her back then help her sister up.

"The hell it's not!" Lana said. "She got his trust back and you can't make him stay! Let him come home!"

"I won't let you!" She responded and was about to attack them again. But before anything could happen, Owlbert landed in front of the duo, spreading his wings and hooting as his eyes glowed yellow, seemingly communicating with her. "You... you care about them."

There, the eyes stopped glowing, and Owlbert nodded and hummed, turning to walk over to Luz, who knelt, arms outstretched so she could hold the owl.

The Bat Queen watched Owlbert pat Luz on the cheek, and she smiled. "Very good." The Bat Queen admitted her defeat. "Go."

She whistled her children to let Sunset pass to with they didn't so well against her.

"Okay," Sunset said as she made her sword disappear.

"Bat queen, do you know what happened to your mistress?" Luz asked.

"Thousands of years have passed." She is, admittedly, sad. " I forgot."

"If you ever want to seek the truth, I will help you."

The Bat-Queen smiled. "Thank you".

Then the Queen and her children held on to her air, and soon she flew away, disappearing into the leaves of the tree on which they lived.

"I can't believe you fought the Bat Queen!" Sunset said to them.

"Sorry we couldn't go to the match," Lana said to her.

"It's cool, then the next match is Hexside as the same time you will be going," Sunset said.

"But frankly I had enough adventure for one day, let's head back before it gets too late," Luz said.

After sorting out all the mess, they returned to the Owl House. Sunset left and started walking back home.

Sitting on the couch, Luz removed the bandage, looking at Owlbert. "Now you're a member of the buddy club," Luz said as she applied the band-aid directly to the crack in Owlbert's head. The little owl hooted, most likely to say thank you. "Owlbert?"

They got scared at hearing a familiar voice and turned around to see Celestia just entered with Philomena on her shoulder.

"Where have you been?" Celestia asked the owl. "And what's with the bandage?"

"Hoo!" Owlbert hooted which allowed Philomena to translate.

"They took you for ice cream," Celestia said, as the twins worried, wondering if she was going to buy it. "That's all, I would lend Philomena for the ride to Glandaus. Well, Eda's tuckered out again and Lana, do you mind if we do some sparring?"

"Not at all, teach!" Lana followed her teacher outside leaving Luz and Owlbert alone.

"You won't tell them, right?" She asked to which the Palisman muttered in response, nodding his head.
