Hello readers, I'm back, I know I kinda fell off the face of the earth for a couple of months, but I'm back with another chapter, took me a while to decide what to do next, but I have a rough idea. Anyway, as always enjoy! And please review, it really helps me
"Ross, I need you"
Ross knew instantly who it was, he could recognize that voice in a crowd full of people.
"Rach? Honey?"
"Ross, I need you to come over!" Rachel sounded every bit more worried.
"Rach, what's wrong?"
"Emma doesn't feel good, she's got a really bad cough, and she hasn't stopped crying! I need your help."
Ross didn't have to think twice, he started running to his room to put on his stuff and grabbed some medicine and her dinosaur stuffed animal. He was still on the line with Rachel.
"Don't worry sweetie. I'll be right there."
Just Ross saying that calmed her down a bit. He was always there for her and Emma. He was a great father. She knew that she could trust him.
"Ok, hurry."
Ross put the phone down, grabbed the stuff and his key and he was out the door.
It didn't even take 5 minutes for there to be a knock on apartment 19. Ross was nervously waiting for the door to open and when it did, he saw the tired figure of Joey, with messed up hair and baggy eyes.
"Hey dude. Rachel's in her room, I was just getting some water. She's been calling for you" said Joey, barely getting the words out. He's definitely not a wake-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night-person.
"Hey. How's Emma?" Ross asked as he was heading toward Rachel's room.
"She's doing better, her cough is staring to go away, but she's still heavily crying."
The last part was pretty obvious since you could hear poor Emma crying through the door.
Ross went straight into Rachel's room, he didn't have to knock, he never really had to knock with Rachel. He saw Rachel holding Emma, swaying her side to side, trying to calm her down.
Rachel looked up and was so relieved to see the only person she wanted with her right now. She loved Joey, he was great, but he wasn't Ross. Ross always knows how to calm her down and how to help Emma when she can't. He is Emma's father, and she was glad that it was him.
"Hey Rach, hey Emma" Ross said with his deep morning voice, that Rachel, even in that moment, couldn't help, but find attractive.
"Hi..." Rachel said, incredibly tired, not able to make it sound attractive at all, but it didn't matter. Anything and everything that Rachel did was always attractive to Ross. Even when her hair was all messed up, no make up on, baggy eyes, stinky breath... still the most attractive woman on earth.
Ross kneeled beside Rachel on the floor, where she was holding crying Emma, his arm and thigh touching hers, which immediately sent shivers down her spine, but also calmed her down.
"Let me try" Ross said sweetly, motioning Rachel to give him Emma and she gladly did. She loved Emma, God, she loved her so much, but she wasn't the one that could help her right now.
Ross rocked her back and forth, Emma coughing every once in a while, but it slowly fading away.
"Rach, you wanna get some breast milk, I want to keep Emma hydrated?" Ross asked, turning his head to meet Rachel's eyes.
"Yeah, I'm on it." Rachel said and instantly got up.
As Rachel got the breast milk, she passed by Joey sleeping on the couch, the water he was supposed to bring on the table right beside. He must've been too tired to walk even a bit more. Rachel smiled and grabbed the cup to take a sip.
Rachel came back, first handed the cup of water to Ross, he took a sip, then she handed him the breast milk and sat back down beside him, even closer than before, their bodies pushed up against each other.
Ross fed Emma the breast milk from the bottle and already noticed her getting more tired, but so was Rachel, because she slowly leaned her head on his shoulder and started closing her eyes. The both of them, with their backs to the front of Rachel's bed, her head on his shoulder as he held Emma. All three were tired, but there was such peace. They were a family.
Ross, still awake, had his two girls close to him, fast asleep in his arm and on his shoulder. He couldn't ask for more, he only wanted little Emma to get better and have a good night's sleep, so he slowly and gently moved his left shoulder up and down. He looked at the sweet face that was Rachel's.
"Rach, honey? Why don't you go to bed? Emma's doing better now." he quietly said.
Rachel understood and stood up and Ross did the same, very carefully, not to wake Emma up.
"Thanks Ross" said Rachel as they stood across from each other in complete darkness.
"Rach don't ever thank me!" he said, all serious.
Rachel never had to thank him for taking care of her and Emma. NEVER.
"Rach you don't ever have to thank me, I'll always be there for you and Emma" he said, sweetly this time, to explain for his sudden seriousness.
"Ok" was all Rachel said, but she understood, and she never doubted that Ross would show up for them... except once. Right after she had given birth to Emma and Janice started putting all the stuff about Ross leaving her for a different family in her head. Before that she kinda believed that somehow, they'd be a family, but then Janice showed up with all that nonsense. That's why she said 'yes' when she thought Joey proposed, she didn't want to be alone, but honestly, she wanted someone else to be the one she said yes to. She wanted it to be Ross, but he didn't propose. Maybe someday.
She never doubted his capability to be a good father ever again and a good partner too.
Rachel went to lay down on her bed as Ross put Emma in her crib, she started to get fussy, so he started singing her a lullaby, before finally putting her back down. She was finally sound asleep.
He looked over at the clock, it was 4:09 AM.
He was so tired, he couldn't go home now, maybe he could just sleep on the couch. Rachel was already asleep in her bed under the warm covers. He walked out of the room and saw Joey sleeping on the couch. Damn, where could he sleep now? He was not going to sleep in Joey's bed, because he knew Joey slept naked, and he was not getting in that.
He looked over at Rachel and saw her sweet, calm, expressionless face. She was sleeping so peacefully. He saw the big gap of space beside her.
What if...?
'Ok, it's fine, she won't mind' he thought and walked over to the right side of the bed, which was actually his side and gently put his body on it, trying not to wake Rachel.
He got under the covers, made himself comfortable, turned to face the middle, just like Rachel, so he could see her beautiful face and fall asleep, that being the last thing on his mind. He tucked a strand of Rahel's hair behind her ear and kissed her forehead, her hand was right in between the two, so he kissed that too and grabbed it with his. Now, he could fall asleep. This way, he could fall asleep.
"I love you" he said so quietly, he wasn't even sure he had said it out loud.
Both fell asleep, holding each other's hand.
It was the best sleep they've had in a long time.
Well, that's that, next chapter is going to start getting good again. Hopefully I can get that up soon. Don't forget to review and maybe write some suggestions, whatever you want. See ya!
