Hello everyone. Welcome my story. . And its about Shadow. So why not?. And here are some things to know before reading.
1: The beginning is loosely based on the Shadow the Hedgehog video game.
2: This story is named after my favorite Static X album. "Shadow Zone". I know. I'm weird.
3: any references to the lore of Sonic will purely be from the video games. No comic stuff.
4: Shadow. I am trying to write him as a combination of how he was in the Adventure and in his own game. So if things seem weird to you. It just might be me bringing his SA2 personality in.
5: there should be noticeable departures from the games as well

Shadow…. It's pretty much all he could remember about himself. Besides a gruesome image of a girl getting shot.
Shadow stood by a tree looking longingly at a city probably imagining that many of those people are doing and think with their lives as he crossed his arms and continued to frown. But little did he know. He was being watched by some sort of starfish like eye.

"Aah… Shadow the hedgehog. I found you. Hehehe. And a couple chaos emeralds too…. Why isn't it my lucky day?"
A giant alien figure observing the very city Shadow was looking at. He then signals the starfish eye to fly around the city's corners first.
"This should be a good place to start. Hehehe…. Send in the army." The alien chuckles to himself as he couldn't wait to see how this surprise attack against humans will turn out.

Shadow continued staring at the city until the starfish creature flies to him generating a hologram of am alien. Shadow did not expect this at all as he is unsure what to do.
"Hello Shadow…" it said "I see you are longing for answers. I know everything about you. Hehe… now bring me the chaos emeralds in the city too me as promised" the hologram of the alien then disappeared as the starfish creature flew toward the city.
Shadow reached out his hand to the creature hoping to call it back and ask it questions but right when he was about to speak. The ground started to explode.
Once the smoke cleared Shadow looked around to see up in the sky there was a big red cyclone full of aliens falling out of the sky. He then heard many city alarms go off along with lots of gunfire, explosions, fire, and terror.
"Hmmm… if he says he knows my past…" said Shadow thinking to himself for a moment "Alright. I'll see where this goes. Whether you are telling the truth or not" as he then skates towards the city.
As he gets closer and closer he sees a few army vehicles start to arrive in the city. Shadow made sure to not be seen by them.
He then notices many blue laser shooting right from the sky onto the grounds causing lots of damage and casualties.
He skated towards the entrance if the city and saw how much of a wreck it currently is. He continued skating passing through aliens, soldiers, civilians and whatever other hell is going.
Then he sees the sees the flying starfish thing hovering around 4 aliens all equiped with laser guns and a few dead soldiers. They all pointed their guns at Shadow before the starfish flew in front of them signaling not to attack.
"Shadow. I see you made the wise decision to join us. Hehe.. I have a job for you… there are two Chaos emeralds in this city. I want you to get them. But I also want you to weaken the city's defenses. Don't let me down" the starfish them flew away as the aliens signaled Shadow to watch out..
But then the four of them got blown to bits.
Shadow saw a tank aiming right at them and jumped back right when it fired. He then grabs a silver pistol and zooms towards the tank.
"Hey that looks like-" said a soldier before Shadow flipped the tank right over "Oh SHIT HE'S HOSTILE!" as he and a few soldiers started to shoot at Shadow.
Shadow then zoomed right towards them and jumped up in the air. He then shoots two of the soldiers taking them down before spin dashing another soldier.
"Augh!" said the soldier as he got hit by Shadow.
Now there was one soldier with an assault rifle trying to shoot Shadow. Shadow then kicked the gun out of the soldier's gun off and… helmet. To reveal that the soldier is a woman. A blonde blue eyes woman.
Shadow stares at her for a moment. He gets a slight flashback of a blonde girl looking at him for help before getting back at reality.
The female soldier then grabs a pistol and shoots at Shadow. But Shadow side stepped all her shots and skated further info the city while also grabbing a machine gun.
"Starkiller to G.U.N! We appears to have another threat! A black hedgehog! He killed some of my squad and flipped a tank over!" Said the woman before realizing she is going to need back up after she pulls the only survivor of her squad to the wall and guards him.

"General! Reports have seem a black hedgehog during the invasion!" said a soldier running into the office.
"A black hedgehog?... Could it be? Are there any more descriptions or footage of him?" said the General.
"Sure I have found footage from a broken security camera that might fit your desired" said an officer pulling up security footage as the general looks at it closely. He widens his eyes when he recognized that it was Shadow. But not only that. He saw Shadow flip over the tank and killing two soldiers.
"Dear God….." said the General.

Shadow skates further downtown the war torn area as he notices a heavily guarded crashed truck he felt a lot of chaos energy coming from it. He zoomed right over followed by more aliens.
"Incoming!" said a soldier as many more rushed to protect the crashed truck from the aliens as the all opened fire.
Shadow was able to easily Dodge and swerve around all the shots directed at him. The aliens? Not so much.
Shadow then got right to the line of soldiers and opened fire with the machine gun in his hand killing and injuring a lot of the soldiers. When they wasn't much left to fight. Shadow rips the back open and sees the green Chaos emerald inside.
"Quickly Stop him!" said a soldier as the remaining soldiers attempted to shoot Shadow only or Shadow to quickly take them all down.
"Hmph. Pathetic" said Shadow as he then zooms further in the city. As he continues to skate. He sees a familiar blue blur taking out many nearby aliens.
"Shadow?... Oh heya Shadow! Long time no see!" said the blue blur.. who turned out to be a blue hedgehog like himself. Shadow already felt annoyed at him. But decided to play along. "These black creatures have been causing a real havoc. What do you say you and me take then both out?"
"…Alright then…. You take that side" said Shadow pointing one direction. "And I'll take there. We'll see each other if we both survive"
"You got it!" said the blue hedgehog speeding away.
"….fool" said Shadow as he skates towards where he senses more energy from a chaos emerald.. he skates towards a heavily armed tunnel "There."
Shadow the jump passed all the broken cars and debris as he literally busts through the weak fences.
"One gotten through!" yelled a soldier in panic as Shadow then passes him. He gets the green Chaos emerald and uses it's energy to track the other emerald. He then notices a very interesting looking cage guarded by… pretty much all available G.U.N soldiers and robots.
"He's over there!" said another soldier as they all started to shoot at Shadow.
"Hmph" said Shadow as he then shoots two soldiers down as he then spin dashes a few more of the G.U.N. robots while he then he take a good look at what is containing the emerald whilst dodging more shots.
Shadow then gets an idea as he focuses some energy from the emerald in his hand.
"Chaos….BLAST!" yelled Shadow as he let out a huge chaos blast as knocking away a vast majority of everyone and everything in his way.
Those that were still standing were very stunned.
"O-Oh no…. We're doomed" said a soldier losing all hope in the situation dropping to his knees as he looks at where everyone else. All knocked out.
And the others still standing just got knocked out by Shadow. Shadow decided to leave the hopeless soldier be as he forced the cage to open to grab the cyan emerald whilst smirking to himself.
"Too easy" Shadow thought as he walked out of the bunker. He then started to zoom throughout the city as it was in a complete warzone. Passing through whatever madness is going on.
"Well done shadow. Now weaken the defenses." The flying starfish said to him fly by…
"Hmm…" Shadow then begins to think to himself before feeling the emerald's power before smirking to himself "How about you guys deal with yourselves? I already got an emerald."
"Don't you dare disobey me. After all. You want answers to your questions about your memories now don't you?"
"…." Shadow growled as the flying starfish as it flew closer to him
"Destroy the city's defenses Shadow. Then we'll talk" the starfish as it then flew away. Shadow then zoomed off onto the city zooming past more soldiers and black arms aliens. Eventually. He felt a sense of power further within the city
He decided to run over there instead. He dodges shots from many G.U.N robots and soldiers whole spin dashing a few of them in the process
"…to hell with that guy. Those emeralds may be better than following him" Shadow thought dashing past many more G.U.N soldiers as he ran over to a box. He senses the chaos energy within as he smirked as he broke the box open and grabbing the emerald before hearing a skid making him turn around
"Alright Shadow you mind telling me what happened to the other emerald escort?" Sonic said as suddenly a purple cat catches up to him. He doesn't recognize her at all. But judging by her appearance. She must be here to help Sonic
"…." Shadow said giving them both a glare
"Got nothing to say Faker?" Sonic said
"Sonic I don't think he'll help us" said the purple cat thinking Shadow will attack
"Why do you ask Blaze? He's a good guy" Sonic said highly doubting Shadow is hostile
Then suddenly there was another earthquake happening leading to more Black Arms dropping down and attacking. Shadow then turned tail and zoomed off
"Hey wait!" said Blaze
"You know Blaze. You go after him if you want. But I'll deal with this" said Sonic as he zooms to spin dash taking out several black arms and aiding the soldiers in the area
Blaze looked at sonic for a moment before looking at Shadow zooming away. She then runs after Shadow.
Eventually the flying Starfish flew over to Shadow only to summon the very alien that spoke to him in the first
"Shadow. You deliberately disobeyed me. I told you to destroy all the city's defenses" the starfish said
"destroy the defenses!? Shadow don't let this happen to them!" Blaze said as she then shot a fireball at the starfish making it dodge
"I…" Shadow said unsure as suddenly they were surrounded by black arm soldiers. And a very large black oak soldier.
"We found the hedgehog. Aim for him!" said one of the soldiers as they all began to open fire at Shadow specifically leading him to speed away leaving Blaze behind to deal with more Black Arms
"You idiots! Not Shadow!" said the starfish alien to all the black arm soldiers stopped shooting at Shadow as he then zoomed passed them knocking over one as the starfish catches up to him "Shadow there is one more chaos emerald nearby. But I need you to focus!"
"hmph" said Shadow as he leaped in the air to spin dash several GUN bots and leaped over one GUN mech
"Oh no!" the mech soldier yelled as he aimed his big gun to fire at Shadow while all the other soldiers fired upon the advancing Black Arms soldiers
Though Shadow effortlessly dodged the firing before the Mech soldier had to divert his attention to the preceding Black Arms
"SHADOW! You were supposed to crush the city's forces!" the starfish said angrily
"I think your soldiers can keep them busy" aid Shadow leaving as the starfish growled "…. No matter. Chaos CONTROL"
*FWASH*
Shadow found himself on the floating cliff. He looks down to see the ocean. He realizes its q floating temple
He turns around to see a very intimidating figure floating
"Thank you for the chaos emeralds Shadow… the last emerald is held within that flying fool's fortress" said the figure
"Now wait just a minute! Why don't you tell me who you are!?" Shadow angrily yelled
"Be calm my stubborn one. I am Black Doom. I am the one that created you. If you want the true secrets that you seek. Then you do as I say" the figure said pointing at Shadow "Now join my forces in their assault" as he pointed at the fleet of airships
"….isn't that.. Doctor Eggman?" Shadow said as he sees a the Black Arms forces land upon the Eggman fleet
"Go Shadow. Go get it" Black Doom said as he loomed over Shadow
"…." Said Shadow as he then jumps down to dash the ruins like a launching ramp and soars through the air as he then spin dashes as he descends closer and closer towards the ship and landed straight on a Black Oak soldier taking it down and spin dashes past most of the black arm forces
Many of the egg pawns began to aim at Shadow and started opening fire.

Eggman looks at his footage while drinking coffee. Upon seeing Shadow he spits out some in shock
"SHADOW!? He's alive!?" said Eggman as he presses several buttons "Just what is he doing!?"
As he watched Shadow as he watched Shadow go from a spin dash to punch one more powerful bot kncing it off the ship as he used a pistol to shoot several more pons as he makes his way speeding closer and closer
"Get me to my mech. And get every available force I have!" Eggman yelled

Shadow tried look for an entrance to where the last Chaos emerald would be. But then
*crunch*
A titan jumps in front of Shadow
"I see you have returned Shadow. And I have a good feeling I know what you're looking for" Eggman said as the egg mech readied it's weapons
Shadow grimaced as the egg mech launched lots of measles heading g towards him and the advancing Black Arms forces
Shadow sped through a lot of the missile as he then throws a chaos spear which didn't do much damage to the arm.
The egg mech then proceeda to fire lots of laser and guns at Shadow as he leaps up to spin dash chest area, the right shoulder and then before he could hit the cockpit. The eggmech grabbed him and slammed him into the ground
"!" said Shadow qs he dodges a stomp from the mech qnd speeds away while it opens fire on him. Swerving through much of the firepower at him he turns around to jump onto some if the egg cannons
Leading the egg mech to compulsively fire at them and from the momentum from the explosions. For Shadow to spin dash straight through the chest piece
"NOOOO!" yelled Eggman as desperately pressed multiple buttons to get the buttons working and Shadow jumped atop the mech and punched the glass twice "Please Shadow have mercy!" as Shadow grabbed him by the shirt "Uh oh"
Shadow then threw him out of the mech
"WHAAAH-OW!" said Eggman once he landed he looks that most of his pawns are destroyed and the remaining ones are keeping the Black Arms from reaching him
He then gets up and makes a run for it. Jumping off his ship to activate a jetpack to escape
Shadow couldn't care less about whatever Eggman does as he pulls out the last Chaos emerald. The pink one
"Well done Shadow" Black Doom said to Shadow qs he descended closer to him as the emeralds surround him
The emerald in Shadow's hand floats up to circle Black Doom with the others
"now that I have them all. I can now commence the destruction of all oppositions. And our vast new resources" Black Doom said as all Black Arms soldiers became to do cheery motions
While Shadow watches Black Doom do his victory speech. Shadow felt like something way very wrong..
Shadow… please
Shadow didn't know why. But he felt compelled to stop this
"Now join me as we-AH!" Black Doom said as he was spin dashed in the back and Shadow three of the emeralds "What the-SHADOW!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?"
"I decided I have a new reason for these" said Shadow as he began to draw power from the chaos emerald
"Why you little!" said Black Doom as he then summons several purple chaos spears at Shadow who dodged all of them
"Chaos…" they both said
"CONTROL"
*fwash*
Then. They both found themselves in a subspace. Shadow looked around I surprise
"Where did you take me!? What is this place!?" Shadow angrily said
"Me!? This wad clearly your doing!" Black Doom said as before they could clash once more
*crack*
"?" said Shadow looking behind him "Wait where are the chaos emeralds?"
*crack*
"?" Black Doom said looking up
*Crash*
Shadow's vision became as darkness overcame his vision

Shadow woke up in a forest
"Oh.. my head.." Shadow said as he notices something very wrong. His hand "Huh!?"
He runs to a puddle and sees his reflection in shock
"Is that… me?..." Shadow said as he puts his hand on his face "I'm… human!?..." he trees he has messy black hair with some red streaks
Though he sees he still has his hedgehog ears and crimson eyes.. and he's wearing human clothes albiet they look like stuff he personally would wear
"….impossible… this can't be real.." said Shadow still stunned at his new look
Shadow looks around and sees the pistol he stole from a GUN soldier on the ground and picks it up
"…" he said as looks at his surroundings "This isn't anywhere I know…."
He then hears a twig snap making him instinctively turn around. Some growling wolf beast and Shadow instinctively jumps to the side to dodge a lunch from another wolf beast
Then a third one comes out of the darkness as they all growled and slowly approached him
"Hmph" Shadow said as he gets a slight smile "This will be easy" as speeds to one to punch it in the jaw making it stumble back and spin kicks the second one
The third one tried to slash him one for him to warp right behind and used his gun to shoot its back killing it. And then when the second one reared it's head and got pumped with lead before Shadow dashes at the last one
Grabs it by the arm and slams into the tree killing it
"Tch. Weak" muttered Shadow as he then gets an idea and climbs a tree "Alright let's see…. Ok not anywhere I know….is that… a city?... huh…." He then warps to the ground and speeds his way towards it

Shadow is sitting atop a building watching cars drive by
"Place is nice. But definitely no station square" thought Shadow as he then looks at a book shop
"Hmmm…. Tukson…" muttered Shadow as he goes inside
"Welcome!" said the owner as he gained a full look qt Shadow "!" making him raise a brow
"..something wrong?" Shadow said as Tukson rubs his 3yes and shakes his head
"I'm very sorry. For a moment you reminded me of someone" Tukson sheepishly scratching the back of his head
"Ok then?…Do you have any geography and map books?" Shadow said
"Oh well look on the 7th shelf. They should be over there" said Tukson
"Thanks" said Shadow as he pulls out multiple books geography and maps and proceeded to read

"Hey buddy. You've been here an awfully long time" said Tukson making Shadow's hedgehog ears slightly twitch in annoyance "And I appreciate you being here for a while"
"Well… Sorry for being that guy. But I'm closing real soon" said Tukson as Shadow then began to return all back in their places
And left
"Even with all this new things. I still can barely make sense of it all" thought Shadow. But wherever he is. He certainly knew he wasn't in his own world
But however. Little did he know. Someone seemed to be watching him with a wry smile.
Considering he wasn't sure what else to do. It may be stupid. But Shadow decided to head to that party club place that he could still hear music from
Sure enough the person follows him in. When he got in sure enough lots of people getting drunk and dancing. Shadow albiet considering he has seen people drink alcohol, beer, or whatever. He wondered what it would taste
However he remembered he has no money. He decided maybe he'll get lucky he goes up to the bartender
"Strange to see a new face at this time" the bartender said
"Yeah? Considering its this late no wonder." Shadow as the person following him sits next to him, writes something down on a napkin, and passes it to the bartender
"Why good to see you again miss. Mr. R has always got the most fun stories" the bartender said as Shadow raised a brow and looked to his side and sees a girl with dual-colored pink and brown hair. Very easy on the eyes he would say
Giving him a smile as the bartender puts two drinks in front of her. She then slides the second one to him
"?" said Shadow a bit suspicious "…What do you want?"
The girl quietly giggled and wrote on the napkin
(You seem like an interesting person. Have a drink on me)
Shadow wasn't sure what to think of her. But she holds her glass to him. He reluctantly clicks ot with his own as he watched her drink
Looking at it. He wasn't sure what it was. But maybe it was good
So Shadow drank a little bit. Not bad. Albiet he was still suspicious of her
She then writes on the napkin again
(I know you are iffy of me. But I am looking for anyone dangerous. I know it's random. But just a hunch from me. But you can thank me later for the drink)
Shadow wasn't sure what to think
"I see… well I'll keep that in mind.." Shadow said as she smiles in satisfaction.
She then gestures to a "help wanted" which Shadow takes mental note of as he looks back to her. She winks at him and gets up to leave
Shadow looks back at the sign and looks to her and she gives him one last smile before the leaving the club. He then leaves his drink to go to the door where the sign led. Considering that he has nowhere to go. And again. No money. No connections. Plus it may be a learning experience since he is now human
Sure it feels weird that he is a bit more limited physically. And is much taller. But so far Shadow didn't seem to care too much
He then knocks on the door to open to q very tall man
"Huh? What do you want?" said a hulking man
"Uh… I was curious about the help wanted sign" Shadow said
"Oh. I'm sorry for my rudeness" said the man "Please please. Come in" as he looks Shadow over "Albiet I'm surprised a faunus would want to work here. And you're definitely too young for full time….. well. All I got is an intern job. Take it or leave it"
"Ok" said Shadow shrugging surprised how easy this is. So far "So uh…. What do I need?"
"Just go see Mil and Mel" said Junior gesturing to twins dressed in teal and red
"…ok then" said Shadow looking over them and reluctantly walked over to them
They both look him up and down
"A faunus"
"Cute"
"..Thanks?... I was hoping to be an intern like Junior suggested" Shadow said as they both looked at each other in amusement
"Weeelll I'm glad to have someone actually easy on the eyes" Mil said
"Yeah. And someone that seems promising" Mel said as they both went at Shadow's sides
"…so now what?" Shadow said curiously as Mil and Mel both looked at each other and smiled

It's the next day and Shadow is sitting on top of the rood with several of Junior's henchman
"You think Roman is gonna come by again?"
"Doubt it"
"Hope not"
Shadow paid no mind to their banter as Mil and Mel came our reward door and walked over
"Alright boys. You know what time it is" Mil said as all the men but Shadow groaned as Mel walked dover to Shadow
"And what's funny is Roman was specifically asked for you" said Mel as she leads him and everyone else down

"Let's see…." Roman said inspecting all if Junior's henchman who where standing in a line "You, you, you three, and last but not least. A grand show starter" lastly referring to Shadow making him raise a brow
"Know that an acquaintance referred me to you" Roman said making Shadow have an idea who he's referring to "I hope I'm not disappointed. What's your name kid?"
"It's Shadow" Shadow said
"Shadow huh? A dark name for sure" Roman said with slight amusement
Roman leads the seven of them into a van and began to drive off
"….So.. what will we be doing?" Shadow asked of the henchmen
"Dust stealing" he replied as he loads a machine gun
"Must be some dust to be worth a gun" Shadow thought

The van parks in a dark alley as all except two henchmen left the vehicle
"Alright my boy. Your first job with me" Roman said putting his arm around Shadow "Lets say hm…. Why you go on ahead and come back to tell me if the coast is clear"
Raising a brow and shrugging off his arm. Shadow walks ahead of the rest to ho on the lookout. He looked to see there is no police
A girl accidentally bumps into him. She had long brown hair. And also… bunny ears?
"Oh! I am so sorry!"
"Tch. It's fine" Shadow
The other girl lowers her sunglasses to give a smile
"Mmm. He's fine looking especially for a faunus" she thought before she gestures her friend to stop staring at him as they get in a car and leave
Ngl Shadow liked the looks of them both. Maybe he'll see them around but right now he didn't see anyone that seems to be a threat
He notices a henchmen poke his head out from a corner and Shadow gives him a thumbs up. Then the five of them catch up to him
"Atta boy" Roman said as he then gestures to a big store "Eyes on the prize"
"A dust store?" thought Shadow "You have to be joking" as they all entered
The store owned upon seeing Roman turns pale as two henchmen began stealing a bunch of crystal capsule and putting them in bags leading Shadow to grab one to inspect it
"Fire dust" Shadow said before tossing it to one of the henchmen. He then dismissed this as a simple robbery and couldn't care less
However someone in the darkness would come out
*blam*
A bullet passes by Roman making him smirk
"Whoah!" yelled on of the henchmen qs he was thrown to them as his sword slid over to Shadow's feet
"My my. Did we cause a ruckus? I thought these were free for the taking" Roman said as he readied his cane while two henchmen ready their sword
"You better put everything back. And never return" said an older man with orange hair
"Why don't you make me?" Roman said as the last henchmen readies his gun
A tense moment passes as Shadow uncrosses his arms and gets a good look at the man's weapon. It seems to be a sword but at the tip was a hole. Probably to shoot
The gun men opens fire at the man deflecting a lot of the bullets and dashes over
*Clang*
Shadow blocked the strike with the henchmen's sword surprising everyone
"!" said the henchman before moving away
"Well damn" Roman said
Shadow then spin kicks the man in the face making him fly onto the shelf
"Er… listen kid. Your mistake you got caught up with them" said the man getting up and dusting himself off as Shadow spins the red sword in his hand for a second
"Hmph. You'll fall before me" Shadow said confidently as the and the man seemed each other clashing swords but the man was barely able to keep up
Then Shadow was able to slice the man's gun sword in half and kick the man down
"Heh. Pathetic" Shadow holding the sword back to give back the henchmen
"Hey boss. What do you reckon we do with him?" said the machine gun henchmen
"Tsk tsk. Such an old hunter far past his prime" Roman said as he looks at him and slides his thumb across his neck
The henchmen smirk and as he readied his machine gun as Roman wrapped his arm around Shadow again and led him outside
After a second to hear the machine gun fire
"I'm impressed to see another piece of talent around" Roman said as Shadow shrugs his hand off again "But since this is really just a small job. I trust you got more up your sleeve"
As the van drives buy and the henchmen begin loading the stolen dust on
"To be honest I thought I was going to have to fight another annoying battle but you made it so quick" Roman as they entered the van
"So does this mean we'll be doing more of these robberies"
"So far yes. But depending on how you do we can do more… 'fun' stuff" Roman "You'll even meet the gang"
"The gang?" Shadow said curiously as Roman nods
The van eventually stops at the nightclub to drop Shadow and the henchmen
