Now and Forever

Chapter 14

"What's on your mind? You've been quiet since we left the Greene's." Mike asked as they got ready for bed that night.

"Do you ever wish we had had more kids?" Christine asked.

"When they were younger, yes. Now, I don't know." Mike admitted.

"You used to want a huge family. I think you had six kids in mind." Christine remarked.

"Yeah, but three was what we could do." Mike answered. He had a feeling he knew where Christine was going with it. He wasn't even opposed to it, but they were older and she was more fragile.

"We could still have kids." Christine commented.

"We could, yes. Should we though?" Mike asked.

"Or we could adopt? I'm sure there are kids that need families." Christine suggested. Mike put both of his hands on her shoulders and smiled at her.

"Honey, I am not opposed to having a baby but I want you to think about this a bit more. Maybe talk to your doctor about it." Mike said, not sure of what Christine's reaction to that would be.

"Just a baby?" Christine asked.

"Lets see what the doctor says before we commit to more than one. I also don't want the girls to think we aren't satisfied with the two of them." Mike said.

"That is true." Christine remarked. Mike gave her a gentle kiss before indicating the bed.

"We have a lot of stuff to do tomorrow before we head home. We should rest." Mike suggested.

"I agree but you don't actually want to do that. You are wanting to divert me." Christine said with a laugh. She gave Mike a long kiss and he nodded.

"Or this." Mike agreed. He gently laid Christine down and continued kissing her. He knew it was not wise but somehow, he and Christine were more up front about their issues now then they were before they were intimate.

A few hours later, Christine snuggled close and smiled up at Mike. "So much for resting." She remarked.

"Oh, we still can rest." Mike said.

"Mike, thank you for hearing me out about wanting a baby. I know you aren't on board and you're worried about me, but thank you for not shooting the idea down." Christine said. Mike pulled her onto his chest.

"Talk to your doctor and I'll work to get more on board with it. It is not because I am scared to love a new baby. I just want to make sure that its for a the right reasons." Mike commented. He kissed the top of her head, glad they were at least able to talk about it. Such an improvement over years before.

"I will." Christine answered before turning on her side. Her head was still on Mike's chest. She quickly fell asleep and Mike tried to drift off. He had a lot on his mind, including that Christine could already be pregnant. They had not been very careful that weekend and Mike was not prepared. He just hoped Christine was prepared if she had gotten pregnant that weekend and it wasn't just a momentary thing with her.
