So...Finally got the World Guide today! It is a DOORSTOPPER, so obviously I couldn't read through all of it at once, I mostly skimmed the parts I was interested in (Mostly the countries and lists of NPCs about the who's who in every country in Dardunah) and skipped the parts I wasn't but anyway story can now totally proceed full speed ahead!
While Leo was having his dream, Chanchalla was having a flashback dream to when she told the Turtles and their friends some of the various tales of the Devah, obviously the Turtles knew about the traditional Japanese Kami but didn't know much about India's own Devah of which these Devah seemed to get their name from, however they were familiar with the Greek Pantheon simply because it was such a popular subject in Western Pop Culture, from the movies of Ray Harryhausen to TV shows like Hercules the Legendary Journey and Xena: Warror Princess even if these took quite a bit of liberty with the mythology you could get the idea from them,
So they had they knew about Zeus and Hera, with Kramah and Krilarah it seemed more like...A marriage of Zeus and Aphrodite really the various folk tales of the Devah frequently fetured them tricking and scheming against each other even before the 'Thousand Years of Darkness' the great war between the Devah that forced Great Father and Mother to call them back up to Heaven.
"And yet..." Don said "...They are the ones who determine how to live a pious life?"
"Yes." Chanchalla said as she realized she had quietly had these thoughts herself while reading these stories.
Don rubbed the back of his head "This is probobly gonna get me in a lot of hot water, but to me these Devah seem a lot like the kind of parents who say 'Do as a say, not as I do'
And that was the moment tears came to Challa's eyes because even if she didn't have those exact words she had often felt the same sentiment, the Turtles were at first worried they had gravely offended Challa but she quickly said "I'm crying because...I agree..." And the tears were tears of fear, because she knew Krilarah was listening, she was the eyes and ears of her patron Devah in this world and she knew Krilarah was listening to everything she said and sometimes made her feelings felt...Chanchalla waited to see if she could feel a response, and there was...Nothing...No anger, no sorrow just...Nothing.
Don was quick to hand her the tissues feeling a bit remorseful for saying what he just said.
And that's when the dream was ended by the sound of a Rooster's crow, Challa's eyes snapped open.
Punivatum, had fluttered onto a wagon, his back arched, his head thrown back as his sang his wordless song to the Blue Sun Edu...
Mikey who was sleeping on the ground in a sleeping bag along with his brothers, clutched his head and said "Is he serious? Is he actually serious?"
Seven-Scars just laughed "Yes, Puni does like many of the men of his Jenu like to sing salutations to the sunrise, we are secretly grateful for it, as it helps us rise for False Dawn."
The Turtles remembered what they had been told, Dardunah had two suns, the blue sun Edu rose and set first, and False Dawn and False Dusk were seen as Holy Times a time of prayer.
"So um,,," Leo said rubbing his eyes "...What should we do?"
Seven-Scars rubbed his chin "You are not of our world, our Gods aren't your Gods...You do not have to participate with us, in fact since you don't know how it's probobly better that you don't...Tell you what." Seven-Scars pointed to the nearby river that the Tribe had made their camp near, "Why don't you Boys take an early morning dip while we do our Holy Duty."
"Sure thing." Don yawned "Could use the water to help me wake up, since we don't have coffee."
(There was a kind of coffee in Dardunah but it wasn't as common as tea, and is mostly found in the country of Bakari)
As the Turtles made their way to the river, they heard the sound of voices singing and instruments playing, turning their heads they saw the Janah stretch beginning dances and exercises meant to awaken the body, mind and spirit.
"Gee," Mikey said with a bashful smile "Janah prayers look a lot more fun than prayers on Earth."
The other brothers felt a bit of sorrow, more reasons why they felt they would never truly fit in here, as much as they admired the sounds and movements of the Janah, they didn't understand the spiritual signifgance and felt certain they could never hope to do so not being born into this culture.
So just a brief chapter dedicated to False Dawn and the rituals surrounding it
