The door crashed open and Theo jumped up to see Robert carrying Kimberly into the room and he let out a sigh. Theo quickly moved the bar on the side of the bed down and Robert placed Kimberly on top of Tommy. They both immediately hit the ground as a power surge ripped through the room. When the power surge dissipated, they were met with welcomed silence. They both relaxed for a moment before Theo pushed himself off the floor, flipped the chair back upright, and settled into it.
"How did she convince her dad?" Theo asked as Robert shook his head. "Seriously? What could be so bad that I don't need to know?"
"She went full prophet on him. And on every doctor in that hospital," Robert said as Theo stared at him and then nodded. "Did she stop by here?"
"She did. She asked who had hurt her, after her hands got burned from just touching Thomas," Theo said as Robert looked back at the bed and saw that Kimberly had rolled over and snuggled into Thomas' side. "How long do you think we have?"
"She was having him do all of the paperwork that the hospital would require for her discharge," Robert said as Theo nodded. "I suspect she'll make this last as long as possible. We owe your wife."
"I know," Theo whispered as Robert smiled at him. They had all been shocked when Theo had been allowed to marry Amelia, but they quickly found out that they'd never be able to have children. It was part of why Theo had stepped in as much as he could with his nieces and nephews. "He keeps calling me Dad."
"You've been more of a father to him than my son of a bitch brother- let him," Robert said as Theo barely nodded, but Robert studied him. "That's not what is bothering you."
"Sally didn't even answer me and it's been hours. He…did we do the right thing?" Theo asked as Robert sat down next to him. "I know we did, it's just…"
"Our siblings are assholes and he has been the one that has always been their least favorite. I don't know that we'll ever understand it- but me, you, Amelia, and Tasia- we can be there for him. We will be there for him," Robert said as Theo nodded. "I'm going to man the doctor's station and will run interference when her dad gets here, at least give you enough time to put her in the other bed."
"A few hours isn't going to be enough," Theo said and Robert nodded. He really hoped that Amelia was somehow able to buy them more time than that.
"Where am I?" Kimberly croaked as Theo jerked awake and gave her a friendly smile. He didn't want to startle her and hoped that she would remember who he was, it would certainly make things easier.
"You're at the Power Ranger hospital," Theo explained and she let out a sigh of relief before looking up at Thomas. "There's a lot he needs to explain."
"Is he going to be okay?" Kimberly asked and Theo nodded. She sat up for a moment and Thomas immediately started to pant as the pain started up again. She gave him a panicked look as she felt her own pain start to increase. "I thought you said he was going to be fine."
"Just lay back down and rest- it'll help both of you," Theo suggested and Kimberly shook her head and he let out a sigh. He was sure that Kimberly had gotten plenty of lectures about what to do and not do with Thomas, but he needed her to ignore that right now. "Don't worry about your dad. He knows that you're here. He's just having to fill out some discharge paperwork from the other hospital."
"Okay," Kimberly whispered as she laid back down and Thomas' breathing immediately returned to normal. She locked eyes with Theo and he knew that she was going to get an answer out of someone for what had caused this.
"I'm going to go let the nurses know you're awake. Is there anything you need?" Theo asked as Kimberly shook her head no and he just nodded. Theo opened the door and immediately ran into Amelia. "Ames."
"I wasn't going to let the both of them continue to suffer because her father is an idiot," Amelia stated as he steered her away from the door. "They can't hear me."
"She just woke up," Theo said as Amelia let out a sigh of relief. "Sweetheart, what is it?"
"I can't see it. It's right there and I just can't…" Amelia trailed off as she looked up at him. Every once in awhile there was a prophecy that got away and they always bothered her the most. "I'm not sorry about what I did to get her here. They were both going to die if I didn't."
"I know. Where is her father?" Theo asked as Amelia looked away from him. "Ames…"
"I convinced him to go home. That she was away at a gymnastics camp," Amelia said as Theo stared at her and she looked away from him. "He's going to send her to Miami. Theo- they can't…"
"I know," Theo said as they stood in front of the nurse's station and Robert slowly lifted his head from the desk. "She's awake. He's still out. You need to go home and sleep."
"What about her parents?" Robert asked as Theo nodded towards Amelia. "Taken care of?"
"I've bought us a few days to come up with a real plan on how to prevent this from happening in the future. Does she know anything?" Amelia asked as Theo shook his head. "How long have you known?"
"We figured it out at the beginning of the summer and then…we just sat Thomas down last week to make sure he was doing what he should be. We haven't had a soulmate pair in a generation and they're young. They're really young," Theo said as Amelia just shook her head. It didn't matter that they were young, this was something that you didn't mess with. "Her powers are stunted- we don't…we…"
"She needs to feel safe for them to come out. Do you not think that he will make her feel safest?" Amelia asked as she gave Theo a pointed gaze. Her powers had only emerged after they had gotten engaged. They had both been shocked when the engagement was allowed to continue afterwards- it was basically unheard of. "She finds out about being his soulmate before they leave here."
"We'll make sure he tells her," Robert said as Amelia nodded and then reached up to give Theo a quick kiss. She might not be happy with how they had handled this, but she also knew all of the stress they had been under lately. "Where are you going?"
"To make sure we get the time we need," Amelia said as Theo shook his head and smiled as he watched her walk out.
"I can sleep in the hospital chair by their bed. Go get some rest, Robert," Theo said as Robert nodded and he then started packing up his things.
"Good luck convincing him to say something," Robert said as Theo shook his head. He wasn't sure he could convince Thomas, but he knew that he had to give it a try.
"Hey," Kimberly whispered as Thomas' eyes fluttered open and he slowly looked down at her before planting a kiss on her forehead. His body felt heavy and he wanted to kiss her properly, but this was all that he could muster. "Pain gone?"
"It's better, but not gone," Thomas admitted as she nodded and then rested her head on his chest. "How'd you get here?"
"No idea," Kimberly said as she closed her eyes and felt him running his hand up and down her arm. "What happened to you? All I know was that I mentioned that they want me to move to Miami and the next thing I knew…"
Thomas gritted his teeth together as the pain spiked again and Kimberly sat up a bit and gently cupped his face. She watched the relief flood through him and then glanced over to see that Theo was trying to blend into the background. She started to pull back, but felt the pain spike in him again and she ran her fingers through his hair, then traced the five o'clock shadow that had appeared.
"Why does this keep happening?" Kimberly directed at Theo as she glared over at him and he shook his head. She was eerily similar to Amelia in many ways. "Does either of you have an answer?"
"Either of us?" Thomas asked as he managed to open his eyes and he glanced to the side as Theo lifted a hand. He let out a groan as he realized where he must be. "I'm at the hospital."
"Yeah, you gave us all a good scare last night," Theo said as he stood up and walked over to the bed. "It sounds like her more than anybody else. I'm going to go see if I can find some breakfast for both of you. Then I'm explaining it if you haven't by the time I get back."
"Dad…Uncle Theo…c'mon," Thomas tried to bargain as Theo shook his head as he continued out the door. He had had time to think this through and he figured this might be the only way to get Thomas to say something.
"Which one is he? Your dad or your uncle?" Kimberly asked as Thomas gave her a confused look and she smiled down at him. "You said both. I didn't get a good look at your dad that night…"
"Technically he's my uncle, but…well…he's been more like a father to me than anyone else," Thomas whispered as Kimberly shrugged and then nodded. "I didn't realize I was calling him Dad."
"He doesn't seem to mind," Kimberly remarked as she looked up at him expectantly. "What's causing this?"
"How…how much do you know about Power Rangers?" Thomas asked and she just shook her head. Of course, she would be someone that knew next to nothing about his world. "Shit."
"My parents hate Power Rangers…no idea why. So they never told me much about any of it," Kimberly said as he stared at the ceiling and tried to think of a way to sugar coat this. "Tommy, just tell me. It can't be that bad."
"You're my soulmate," Thomas whispered as he met her eyes for a moment and then looked away. If she were to reject him, he couldn't look her in the eye when she did it. "I wanted…I planned…I wanted to give us enough time to date and not just, not just put this on you."
"That's a real thing?" Kimberly asked as he nodded and she went quiet as she thought about what he had said. It certainly made several things make sense, from the pull she felt to be around him, to knowing that he was in trouble as soon as she heard the knock last night. She just couldn't work out why he would have a soulmate that was normal. It didn't make sense to her. "Why me? I'm a nobody."
"Don't say that," Thomas said as he brushed back her hair from her face and she looked down at him. She was shocked to see how concerned he was at that little bit of self talk. "I just. You're somebody for me. You have been since day one."
"So, what does this mean?" Kimberly asked as he scratched his head and looked away from her for a moment. "I'm assuming Miami is a really bad idea."
"Yeah," Thomas said through gritted teeth as she curled on top of his chest and he let out a sigh as the pain disappeared. "I don't know what all it means, but we can…we will learn together."
"Okay," Kim whispered, surprisingly close to his lips and he felt her tentatively press her lips to his. He greedily returned the kiss before he pulled back and caught the slightest bit of desire in her gaze. He then heard the door open and a chuckle came out of Theo as Kimberly buried her face in his chest.
"Thank goodness you told her," Theo said as he held up a couple of sandwiches. "They didn't have much of a choice-but I did manage to grab these."
"Thanks," Thomas said as he took both of them and placed one next to Kimberly's face. She took a quick glance at it and then curled away from Theo and they both gave her a confused glance as she started to unwrap the sandwich. "He's safe, Kim."
"And he just caught us kissing…I…nope…he doesn't exist right now," Kimberly said as Theo and Thomas both laughed before Theo nodded that he would go back out. It was far more important that they connect right now.
"Dad- stay. You can answer more of her questions than I can," Thomas said as Kimberly looked back at him and then over at Theo. "He will. And I want you to have answers."
