Mazie Millar, 16

District 9 Female

The wind sways over the vast field of golden crops. It's still a hot day, and two days before the reaping, yet we are all still required to work. I tie back my red hair, and take a second to fan myself with my hands. That's when I see him running from across the fields.

Our supervisor Ms. Dawson prepares to come over and complain to us, but I motion her to stop. The boy running toward me is my co-worker Graham, and he is sweating and looks alarmed, fear trembles in his voice.

"They got him."

My eyes go wide.

"Who? What happened, Graham?"

"The peacekeepers, they busted Garrett last night. He's in jail, they're gonna hang him!"

My fingers clench into a fist. Two years, and they finally catch us now?

"Graham, you get out of here now, they'll be questioning Garrett and he'll tell everyone."

"But Mazie, what about you? You're the-"

"Don't worry about me!" I interrupt. "You get out of here now, get your sister, and go!"

He grits his teeth and nods, before running away. Ms. Dawson gives a look, but I know she is one of the few supervisors who minds her own business around here, so I feel good for now.

Since I was 14 years old, I've been the leader of a smuggling ring. We steal grain and bread from the factories and fields, and give them to the people of District 9. From a young age, I have loathed the fact that the Capitol can take our food source away to oppress us. So our group's small act of rebellion has been feeding our district's families for two years now. But that is being threatened.

I grew up in an orphanage, and I've had to fight to get by. So I'm not afraid of combat. It's only a matter of time before the peacekeepers bust me too, and I won't let that happen. I have only one friend, Cornelia from the orphanage, but I have no family to fight for. Only my district.

So that's why instead of letting myself surrender to the law, I plan on volunteering for the Hunger Games in two days. And maybe there's a chance I could win, and give back to this district I love so much even more.

Aaron Hamilton, 18

District 10 Male

If there is one thing that my father taught me, it's that you never die without leaving something behind, anything that can live on in your name after you pass. And I'm the one who lives on in Lennox Hamilton's name.

So I can get why people think that I'm crazy for bullfighting at such a young age, especially after my father himself was killed by a bull in a fight gone wrong. I even have the task of being a matador, the one who ends up slaying the bull after the battle. But my father had been doing this for as long as I can remember.

I'm told all the time I resemble him, maybe it's our same deep brown eyes, or our long, thin nose. I couldn't have possibly inherited those traits from my green eyed mother. Though I know most people see me in his legacy.

The crowd of District 10 citizens fill the stadium, their voices echoing the open-air stands. On the bottom row, I see my younger siblings, Dallas and Cassie, and my mother. They wave at me before the bulls come in and the fight begins.

I blow a kiss to the crowd. I know my way around this industry. On the weekends I work at the slaughterhouse, so I know how to kill animals. It's my last year eligible for the Hunger Games, and our family usually has enough to eat, so tesserae isn't an issue this year.

The flag is waved, the bull is released. Let the show begin.

Barbara "Barb" Gutierrez, 16

District 10 Female

"Who's a good girl?"

Abbie makes a small sound, and I give her a bit of lettuce to munch on. I do it discreetly, knowing my parents would make a fuss for giving the dairy cows a little extra treat.

"Barb! What are you doing?"

Sure enough, I turn around and see my dad with his arms crossed. I smile nervously. I forgot what I was supposed to be doing again.

"Remember, you were supposed to be helping Ma' with the dishes."

I look down, and suddenly it all comes back to me. Mama had to go do something, and she put me in charge of the dishes, is that right?

"Sorry again. I just got distracted."

My father looks away from me, toward the field, and smiles. He doesn't know how to help with my distractions, and I feel bad for always frustrating my parents. At least they don't have to deal with that when it comes to Tony.

"Tell you what." he looks back at me. "Tonight I'll take you to the bullfighting show, Aaron will be there!"

I grin. Aaron has always been nice to me, and going to his shows is always fun.

"But only if you go inside and help with the dishes." My father says, more stern now.

I pet Abbie's head one last time, and plan to return to the farmhouse to help with the dishes. But then Tony comes running out.

"Papa, I finished the dishes!"

I run to my little brother and give him a big hug, now I don't have to do the task anymore, at least. My dad pats him on the back.

"Good job, Tony. I'm taking your sister to Aaron Hamilton's show tonight, you coming?"

Tony nods his head and bounces up and down. If there's anything my brother likes more, it's bullfighting. He might make a good matador one day, though I know it's a dangerous task, so I worry for him if that's what he wants.

"But we can't stay for long, the reaping is tomorrow!" Tony smiles and I look to the ground and frown.

I totally forgot about this too. Not only that, but it's Tony's first reaping too. I brush it out of my mind, and with a quick reminder from my father and brother, to finally go inside and do the dishes.

Yay, now with the next set of tribute introductions! I really apologize if my writing was sloppy, introductions are very hard for me, and I struggled a lot with Aaron's intro, because I know almost nothing about bullfighting, so I am sorry his is so short. Expect quicker updates I hope! I am really invested in this story already, and already have plans for all of the tributes that I've received. I do have a full-time job however so I may struggle to update as consistently. I love seeing reviews from y'all, so let me know what you think of these tributes!

P.S Barb has ADHD, and I really don't know much about it, as I don't have it, so I really hope I portrayed it well, I kinda struggled a bit with that, I hope it wasn't offensive or anything.

Also due to their forms not submitting fast enough, I have the majority of career spots still available for submissions, it would be great if I could get the District 2 Female and District 4 Male in. However the District 1 Female is still reserved for another week as I gave an extension. But to those who have less than 3 tributes in, I highly suggest doing a career tribute as they will have a lot of importance to this story!
