Hello Everyone! I hope you enjoyed the prologue. It was a bit of a shorter chapter to kind of gather interest and see what kinda response it would get. Further chapters should be longer in general. As far as chapter two goes I hope to start building the world a little more and explain what exactly happened and how Percy feels about it.

Well anyway, follows and reviews are very appreciated! -Elda

LAST TIME:

"Here he is father." She gestured towards me as the ugly fisherman approached and kneeled down in front of me. "His name is Percy."

Slowly a toothy grin formed on his face as the smell of his breath hit me like a truck. "Well hello there little demigod."

Chapter 2: I receive some smelly wisdom

"Holy smokes man, you need a breath mint!" I said as I recoiled from the sheer smell. Looking up at the old fisherman he seemed to be in his late 50s or early 60s, wearing rain boots with khaki shorts, and fishing vest over his deep blue long sleeved shirt.

Rolling his eyes he stands up and holds a hand out to me "So much for first impressions"

"He's not wrong father" I hear Eurydice say, giggling behind him

Glaring at her he shakes his arm, impatiently waiting for me to take his hand.

I hesitantly oblige and am hauled up to my feet as he looks me up and down.

"A little scrawny but he may do. There is limitless power in the sea if you know how to use it. But first, introductions, hello Percy, the name's Nereus." Followed by what seems to be his signature toothy grin.

I rack my brain trying to remember where I've heard that name before, but coming up with nothing.

"Uhh hello Nereus, I'm Percy. Could you tell me what the hell is going on here?" I said, already exhausted from the day.

Letting out a hearty laugh, he looked at me and gestured for me to follow him.

"I used to make people work for answers as hard as that, but I'm feeling generous today. Well kid, the world as you know it has ended. I don't know how you survived or how you showed up on that beach, but it's nothing short of a miracle."

Looking at him in confusion I ask "What do you mean the world has ended? I was just in the city last night? It seemed pretty fine to me!"

Stopping in his tracks he turned around and stared at me "What do you mean you were in the city? It's a wasteland."

"I mean I don't think it's that bad, but it does kinda smell sometimes." I said truthfully

"Percy.. What year is it?" Eurydice asked from behind me.

"2004..?" I said to her while thinking, yep crazy lady is still crazy.

"Percy the year is roughly 2010." She said with concern in her eyes.

Staring at her like she had grown a second head, I was speechless.

"It can't be 2010.. I was just starting the 6th grade!" I thought to myself

"Percy, Eurydice." Nereus's deep voice breaking the awkward silence "We can talk about this over dinner, come now. We're almost there."

Slowly nodding my head I follow him, my whole body feeling numb. "6 years.. gone in the blink of an eye" the mere thought of it makes the pit in my stomach grow all that more heavy.

THIRD PERSON POV:

The unlikely trio made their way to what seemed to be a small fishing house. The back half looked like a covered dock that stretched out into the sea while the front half looked like a regular single story home, though worn down and in need of a fresh coat of paint.

Entering through the front porch, Nereus informed him to take his muddy shoes off and wait in the living room. Percy obliged, though he seemed to be in an almost robotic state, the heaviness of today's events finally catching up to him. Sitting on the couch, Percy's thoughts were interrupted by Eurydice gently placing her hand on his shoulder and giving it a comforting squeeze.

"Take this time to collect your thoughts, father will have a lot of questions for you." She said gently, in an almost motherly tone.

"How am I supposed to do that?" He asked her in disbelief

"One second I'm on the beach, having the time of my life with my mom, the next I'm being kidnapped by some lady after a tree was thrown at me." He said getting more and more upset with each word.

"I just wanna go home.."

These words seemed to rip Eurydice's heart right out of her chest.

She composed herself and looked at him with a stern yet compassionate face.

"I know Percy.. but things have changed. We need you to be strong Percy. Please just try." She said in an almost begging tone.

He just gave her a dejected look then went back to staring at the floor.

A few moments later Eurydice left as her father entered the room with two mugs, and a couple plates with sandwiches. Giving each other a sympathetic look as they passed each other.

"Here Percy, drink." Nereus said in a much more serious tone than before, while handing him a mug.

Warily Percy stared at the brown liquid in the mug before hesitantly taking a sip causing his eyes to light up.

"Hot chocolate?" He said with a childlike gleam in his eyes.

"The good stuff too." Nereus said while nodding.

"I figured you could use it. After all we have some.. heavy stuff to talk about."

Percy takes a few more sips before setting the mug down and started digging into his sandwich.

After exchanging a few glances, Nereus began with a loud sigh

"It all began about 6 years ago. A great prophecy said that a choice was to be made that would either save Olympus, the kingdom of the gods, or destroy it. Unfortunately the individual making that choice, chose wrong, and it started a chain of events that brought catastrophic consequences to the world. Immortal and mortal alike." Nereus paused as he took another sip of his hot chocolate.

"The gods and demigods fought valiantly, eventually they were able to stop the threat to both worlds, but at great cost. The demigods were all but extinct and the gods were either reforming in Tartarus or in a coma-like state." He paused to let that sink in before continuing on

"The mortals didn't fare much better either, reduced to a fraction of their population. All governments were destroyed and the world was left in anarchy, and humans waged war amongst themselves until they were but a few fractionated settlements."

"Why are you telling me all this?" Percy asked. "I'm just a kid"

"You are so much more than that Percy. You are a demigod, a powerful one at that." Nereus said with a slight glint in his eyes. "Demigods have been known to do extraordinary things. They've defeated great monsters, toppled kingdoms, led armies and destroyed empires. The power of a demigod is not something to be underestimated."

"Why do you think I'm a demigod? I can't do any of that, I'm just a kid." Percy said dejectedly

"The smell of the sea is strong with you, I've felt your aura before, you are most certainly a demigod. And I'm almost certain I know who your godly parent is." Nereus said with such certainty, Percy almost believed him.

"Well my mom works in a candy store, and my dad was lost at sea. I know my mom wasn't a god because we wouldn't struggle like we do if she was, and what kinda god gets lost at sea?" Percy said exasperated

Nereus chuckled at that last comment before saying, "I will reveal that in due time Percy, but before then I must ask a huge favor from you."

"And what would that be?" Percy looked up at Nereus with a look of despair.

Nereus looked into his eyes with a solemn look before saying,

"The power of the gods rely on the worshiping and sacrifices of mortals. With the current state of the world.. I don't have much left to go on. At this rate I will fade soon, and leave behind the last of my daughters. I don't want Eurydice to have to live a lonely life in this world. So I want your help in restoring Olympus to what it was so that I may stay with her."

Percy looked at him in a stunned silence before it finally clicked in his head. This old, smelly fisherman was a god. The proof was right in front of him, and it was asking him for help.

Nodding, Percy thought to himself before looking at Nereus with determination in his eyes.

"I will help you on one condition."

Nereus looked at him with a questioning looking in his eyes and motioned for him to continue

"I want your help in finding my mother. I don't care what it takes, I'm going to find her, and I'm going to make sure she's safe." Percy said with a fierce look in his eyes.

"I.. will do my best Percy. We will start tomorrow, but for now. Get some rest." Nereus replied before finishing his mug and leaving the room.

PERCY POV:

It was all too much. So much had changed in just a blink of an eye. I still can't believe it. I'm a demigod? I supposedly had the power to "topple kingdoms" whatever the hell that means. I don't want that, I just want my mom. I miss her. But I'm gonna find her and I'll bring her back. If that means I have to save the world in the process then so be it.

Laying down on the couch I put my head down for a good night's sleep. Well or so I thought.

I woke up in a grassy field surrounded by stones. Taking in the smell of morning dew, and the sound of the birds I looked around. What I saw terrified me. The stones weren't just regular stones. They were gravestones.

Hurriedly standing up I started to look for the exit of the graveyard, when something caught my eye. A large mausoleum in the center of the graveyard with a large horse statue on top. It seemed to be calling to me. Almost as if it needed to show me something. Hesitantly I made my way towards it, doing my best to not step on any graves.

As I approached the base of the steps of the mausoleum, I began to hear the whispering. It was subtle at first but got louder and louder as I approached, though I couldn't make out what they were saying. It was as if a million people were all talking as quietly as possible.

Trying to block it out as best I can I went up the steps until I was in front of the large stone doors. That was when I noticed the word carved into the door.

DEATH

The whispering got louder and louder, until it was almost deafening. And that's when I heard it. A deep foreboding voice cut through the roar of the whispers

"COME"

I awoke in a cold sweat back on the couch I had fallen asleep on, desperate to catch my breath.

I sat up and held my head in my hands, terrified. "What am I supposed to do? I whispered out, too terrified to go back to sleep.

End of chapter two.

Well there you have it! What do you think? I feel pretty good about this chapter. It's still a little slow but I wanted to give a little exposure to the world as it is now as well as start the first arc.

Also I do want there to be a romance in this, I just don't know what I want the pairing to be. Leave a review on what you think it should be and how you enjoyed the chapter. Until next time! -Elda
