"Those boys… they're suffering. One has a currently incurable disease that will eventually kill him, not before torturing him though. The other was stabbed in a near fatal spot- he was lucky he even survived. On top of that, his parents died trying to save him from the attacker. What is your stance on this, Misaka Mikoto?"
The girl in question stared down into the rehabilitation room with a sad look mixed with confusion. "But why…? Why did someone attack that boy's mama and papa? Why was the other boy born with an unfair disease?" She stared at the boys who were working hard to get better, but they were in so much pain, unfair pain.
"Exactly. This world is unfair… but you can change that." The doctor responded, his hands behind his back.
"Me…?" Misaka scrunched her eyebrows, staring at the doctor in confusion. "…How can I help them?"
The doctor smiled at the girl, and perhaps if Misaka was older at the time, she would've seen past the 'kind' smile and saw the malicious intent. "God is an absolute being, correct? If say, someone as kind-hearted as you were able to reach the status of 'God', then you could erase everything wrong in the world."
Misaka's eyes widened in realization to what he was saying, "If I become God… I could help them…?" She turned her head to look at the boys who were trying their best, but their efforts had almost no chance of bearing fruit, unless a miracle were to occur.
"Yes... will you join us in the quest to becoming Level 6 to help these boys… and people like them?"
Without a shred of hesitation, Misaka turned to the man with determined eyes and nodded firmly, "Yes."
Misaka stared at the person identical to her with curious eyes, "Is she my friend?" She turned hopefully to the scientists standing behind her.
She was now 10, in contrast to the time when the scientists had first come to her 5 years ago. Involved in 'Project Level 6 Shift' and countless other experiments, she never had any friends her age. Her loneliness only increased after reaching Level 5 as even on the days that she did attend school, she was ostracized.
A scientist shook her head, "No. They don't have emotions, they're not human."
Misaka frowned, "But they are, aren't they?"
"There's a difference between these clones and humans. They're nothing more than experimental lab rats that are going to be killed off."
Misaka's expression had mixed emotions, ranging from confusion to even anger. "But why? Why should they die?"
The scientist shifted her glasses, "Because they were created for that purpose. This is the final push to Level 6, Misaka. By sacrificing 20,000 rats, you'll be able to achieve a world where happiness prevails. Where life is fair. And all you have to do is kill some rats… easy enough, right?"
Misaka halted, turning back to look at the clone. She was staring right back into Misaka's eyes with a blank expression, emotionless. She gritted her teeth, 'Rats… they're nothing more than rats… For the sake of greater good… I'll kill them.' Misaka tried to convince herself by repeating the sentence over and over again and hours later, she finally succeeded.
'Nothing more than rats…'
A shot rang out throughout the room, but no blood splattered onto the floor. Instead, a small dent in the white walls was created, a bullet clacking onto the floor.
The sound came from a gun that was held by a girl, no older than 13. She was wearing googles over her eyes, which flashed a vibrant green. On the other side was the same identical girl, except with no gun or googles.
"Bullets seems to be reflected… cause unknown, Misaka analyzes."
"Misaka, please do not hesitate to kill her. She's nothing more than a toy created with the push of a button." A man watching the entire scene on an observation deck called out.
Misaka bit her lip, nodding slowly. 'Nothing more than a toy… a rat… With their sacrifice… I'll be able to get rid of all the unfairness… evil.'
Electricity flung off her, and suddenly the 'toy' convulsed before collapsing, earning a painless death. And although there wasn't much effort on Misaka's part, she was panting hard, gritting her teeth as she watched the other lifeform lifeless on the stainless floor.
'They're just toys… rats… all for the greater good.'
Steps echoed throughout a dark alleyway, accompanied by the screams of a girl. Said girl collapsed on the ground in a smoking heap. As blood leaked out of her mouth, another girl stared at the lifeless form.
"Why am… am I doing this…?" Misaka Mikoto said softly, words no one would be able to hear. "Right… to reach Level 6… to become God… to erase all the evil…" She no longer sounded convinced as she used to. They were no longer dreams… more like something ingrained into her brain, 'all for the greater good of humanity'.
Tree Diagram… by fighting an exact replica of my own Personal Reality, may I be able to get stronger, and reach Level 6.
She stared at the heap in front of her before turning her head away, as if disgusted by the sight. That's the 52nd clone dead now…
She rubbed her head roughly, sparks flying off of her. "Fuck… if I can get stronger faster than Tree Diagram calculated, I don't have to kill as many rats."
They're a nuisance. Won't complain when they're forced to die… won't complain as they die. They truly are nothing more than animate puppets.
Academy City, the city whose science and technology are about 30 years more advanced than anywhere else. With the science, Academy City has been able to create physics… better known as Espers.
80% of the population within Academy City are students, and the majority, as in 99% of that population are espers. However, that does not mean that they are all equal.
If anything, it's the opposite. Divided into 6 ranks, from Level 0 to 5, espers' value is determined by their Level. If they're a measly Level 0 who either can't generate their ability into reality or can barely do so, they have absolutely no value to society.
And then, there's the peak of espers. The Level 5s. All celebrities in their own rights, although none of them are actually seen in public.
Accelerator, someone who, as a kid, fought an entire army and won without a scratch.
Dark Matter, the creator of something non-existent.
Railgun, the one who climbed from the very bottom to the top. One of the more well-known Level 5s… but still, very little is known about her, like the others.
Meltdowner, with a truly frightening ability to decimate anything and everything that she wishes, with no known exceptions.
Mental Out, the manipulator of minds. Without even needing her ability, she's able to manipulate those she wishes, and with it… almost no one can escape.
Number 6… no one even knows if this person truly exists.
Attack Crash, the strongest gemstone in the entire world with powers even geniuses can't explain.
These are the known pinnacles of the world, compared to celestial bodies, as stars one could never reach.
Yet was it truly worth it to become a star in the sky? They've abandoned everything, from humanity to friends to family. None of them, willingly.
All of them lost their family, either abandoned by their family or they died in an 'accident'. On top of that, they were known for their mental issues. Ranging from apathy to psychopaths, none of them are truly 'sane'.
So just what do they gain for being so powerful? They lack what they want they want most, after all.
Misaka was walking through the 'Garden of Learning' with a tired expression. Still haunted by the nightmares from the night before, she had dark bags under her eyes and was detached from reality.
She rarely actually goes to school, despite getting into the prestigious girls' school known as Tokiwadai. And even with a lacking attendance rate, she was one of the top 10 students, from testing alone.
Today was a special day due to the System Scan, which even Misaka couldn't ignore.
She snapped back into reality, finding herself in front of the pool that they used to test her. Her feet had brought her here by themselves, as if they had a mind of their own.
She was wearing the standard Tokiwadai uniform with shorts under her skirt, something she only bothered to wear when going to school. She didn't live in either of the two dorms that Tokiwadai had, so she never bothered following the rules either.
"Misaka-san, please try your best today…" The teacher smiled and tried to encourage her, but it was obvious that she was being ignored.
Instead, Misaka took out a small arcade coin out of the few that she had stored in her pocked, playing with it. Electricity crackled off of the coin, reminding her of the events that occurred the night before.
A girl was screaming in pain as blood spurred out, spilling onto the floor. Her nerves were getting destroyed from inside out, her body making movements that weren't commanded by the brain.
It was as if her body was being controlled, like a puppet and she was aware the entire time. Yes, that's exactly what was happening.
And finally, the girl stopped screaming in agony, her eyes slowly rolling backwards before collapsing into the pool of blood. A final spark crackled from the girl's hair until the night was silent again.
Misaka scowled, slightly pissed. Not even a single plea… as I did all that?! "Misaka-san…"
It was the teacher, who's hair was all frizzy from the static in the air. "Please calm down…" Misaka blinked for a second before forcing the anger and guilt back into a bottle stored deep within her. Right… just a rat.
"Are we starting yet?" She asked, trying to take her mind off of the experiment by focusing on calculations.
"Mmhmm… just one more second." The teacher waved her hand towards the other staff member operating the machine that would calculate the power output. After she got the green light, she nodded to Misaka who didn't skip a beat.
The sound of thunder clapping and the water that was thrown into the air amazed those who had never seen the power of a Railgun.
And one such person was Shirai Kuroko.
She had just finished her testing and was able to relax for a second with the loud clap of thunder interrupted her, along with a rumble through the ground, causing her to jump in the air with a yelp.
She had managed to avoid falling with her ability of teleportation and thus, her hand eye-coordination was better than average, but some other girls were not so lucky, and fell to the ground with a thump.
Shirai quickly whipped around, trying to see if it was some sort of terrorist when she realized that it had come from the pool- where a Level 5 was supposedly doing her testing.
Her suspicions were confirmed as thunder clapped again, the roar of water jumping through the clouds and back down, some water droplets hitting her face. This is… there's no doubts about this… Tokiwadai only has one person who is capable of this sort of firepower… the 'Railgun'…
Despite being accustomed to fighting and seen her share of abilities, she's never seen something so powerful. Of course, it's not like you'll run into a Level 5 every other day, right?
Most would be in awe and admiration, but that feeling quickly passed as Shirai scoffed. From what I've heard, she's a delinquent. Even if she's a Level 5, it doesn't exempt her from the school rules!
Although she wasn't right, she wasn't exactly wrong either.
The sounds of chatter and giggles echoed throughout the shower room, and amongst them was Misaka. She was scrubbing away absently at her hair, seemingly without a care in the world.
Although, that was quite the opposite case.
If they just say the word… if they just ask me to stop…! If they prove to me that they're human… I…
Misaka gritted her teeth, feeling the anger resurface again before quickly pushing it down and turning off the water. This fucking sucks. This is… all for those boys… to get rid of the evil that haunts this world… right? Or is this for my own selfish desires…?
She swallowed some saliva that stared to gather up in her mouth and pushed the guilt down just as it resurfaced. Even if it is selfish… I want to make it so that people won't have to suffer like them in the future. I'll make sure of that, even if it costs me my life… otherwise everything I've done up to now would've been pointless…
She let the chatter and mundane talk wash over her as she continued to bottle up her emotions. They won't plea or cry because they aren't human. They're nothing more than lab rats constructed of my DNA. That's right. Nothing more than lab rats… nothing more…
By then, she was already outside the shower room, brough there subconsciously. Her wet tussles of hair were letting out small crackles of electricity as she struggled to convince herself and rid herself of guilt.
"Misaka-sama?" Misaka whirled around to see a student wearing the same uniform as her, with the same brown hair, except much longer. But just the mere image of a Tokiwadai uniform and brown hair was able to bring back unpleasant memories of alleyways smelling of blood and rotting flesh.
She choked down some bile and opened her mouth, "What?" It came out forcefully, making it sound rude, but Misaka had no such intention.
But even so, the girl shrunk back in fear, "A-ah… Sensei wishes to see you…" She trailed off, not meeting Misaka's eyes. But such was a natural reaction for a person talking to the person known to most as Railgun, and thus, Misaka was already used to it, and took no offense and simply nodded in response.
What could sensei want? She frowned as she started towards the office at the end of the grand hallway.
She swung open to the door to see two chairs facing each other with a table in the middle. "Watanabe-sensei…" She started but was cut off by the elder, but it didn't feel rude when done by one of Tokiwadai's teachers.
"Please sit down first, Misaka-san." Misaka raised an eyebrow but reluctantly sat down on the soft, red cushion.
"What did you call me here for, sensei?" Did I do something wrong?
Of course, most people with common sense would know what they wrong. But common sense didn't exactly apply to Level 5s, as Misaka didn't realize that skipping school and disobeying the school rules was something normally not allowed.
"Well, even if you have the results, it would be better if you were to attend classes, Misaka-san. Even if you are a Level 5, we cannot allow you to forever disobey school rules."
Misaka frowned, "But you never had a problem with it before?" As noted before, common sense doesn't apply to Level 5s.
Watanabe sighed, as if realizing that. "We have tolerated this up to now, Misaka-san. But as other students begin to complain, especially since you are their role model, they will also begin to disobey rules. I'm sorry to say this, but if you cannot at least attend classes, we will be forced to expel you."
Misaka blinked, as if surprised by the bluntness. "Ah… I see…" Turmoil started to stir under her calm exterior as she debated her options. The only reason I attended Tokiwadai was because Mama and Papa wanted me to… but…
They were dead now. Died just she sold herself in for the Level 6 Shift experiment. At least… at least I should do this much for them… If I can't accomplish anything else… at least I should make my parents happy…
She slowly nodded, "…I understand."
Watanabe let out a sigh of relief and smiled at Misaka, "Thank you for understanding. You may leave now." Misaka nodded again, standing up.
She didn't return the 'goodbye' that the teacher said and walked out the door silently. But I have to accomplish more. I don't have the luxury to say that it'll be fine even if I fail. After all,… even if they are rats, they still are living. If I kill them and in the end, don't accomplish anything…
She didn't finish the thought, not wanting to think of the guilt that would drown her if she wasn't already drowning in it already.
Name: Misaka Mikoto
Level: 5
Age: 14
Killed: 8567 Sisters
This was an idea that came to me while watching a reaction video. The reactor thought that Misaka was doing the killing and not Accelerator, and I thought, wouldn't that be a great story idea? So here I am.
It's quite difficult trying to find a reason that Misaka would kill the sisters, so it has to start early, neh? What if Misaka was involved in the darkside earlier on like the other Level 5s? What if the scientists wanted to see if she could reach Level 6?
Because she's actually getting developed in a facility instead normally, she reached Level 5 earlier than she did in the original story and is also stronger because she's willing to test her 'killing' skills. Her parents also died in an 'accident' for plot because otherwise, her parents would never let Misaka kill 20,000 clones, even for the sake of others.
Anyway, so basically her being manipulated from a young age and her parents dying set a chain reaction down the line. She never meets Kuroko and is even more of a delinquent. Also more mental problems! YAY! sarcasm
Criticism is welcome, along with feedback. Misaka is definetly OOC due to the whole story line about her mental problems.
