A black, semi-sentient substance stands to change that, though. It stands to web his fate to the Ghost Spider as it hangs and oozes atop an unsuspecting Eddie.

Strange's spell returns all those misplaced to their own universes, to their own time. Or at least that's what's supposed to happen. Curing long-dead former villains means the future that Peter Three is from no longer exists for him to return to. The spell still works, of course; everyone simply returns to the initial point of divergence instead. Post-NWH, TASM time travel fix-it.
