It was an ordinary day on Earth. Months had passed since the attack of the Anti-Grid avatars, without a single alien invasion, mad scientist, demon uprising or robot attack. It seemed that after 30 years of non-stop attacks, the world no longer needed the Power Rangers.

That was, until the day an unusual meteorite fell from space, crashing into the middle of Emerald City, and creating a massive crater in the middle of the road. The police quickly scrambled to contain the potential fallout, with the first on the scene being a probationary officer by the name of Tricia Zoom and her supervisor, Mike Elliot. "Man, in 15 years on the force, I never thought I'd come across something as unusual as this.", Elliot commented. "A large rock falling from space."

"Not a rock.", Tricia pointed out, escorting her superior to observe the item. "It looks more like a crystal." Sure enough, the material seemed more transparent than any regular stone. More than that, Tricia noticed something else about the meteorite. "It looks… kind of like a seed."

As if on cue, a large tree, made of similar crystal, sprouted out of the crater and extended to the sky, rising higher than even the highest skyscraper. "Now that's just weird.", Elliot commented. "This hole here just up and sealed itself up."

"What're you talking about?", Tricia asked, confused. "Didn't you see-?"

But then Tricia was cut off by a voice within her head. "You have been chosen. Only you can see." She was shaken out of the vision by a green glow, after which she found something unusual on her wrist. A watch of a similar shape to a tire, with 4 "app" icons on it.

She decided to keep this a secret, not knowing if her boss would be able to see this. "You're probably right, Sergeant. It was likely some sort of stunt advertising for a movie. Nothing to get worked up about. Let's head back for now." As she said this, Tricia knew that she'd have to come back after work and check out this tree more personally.

Across town, at a construction yard, a rookie by the name of Kent Digby saw the trail of smoke in the distance. "What's that?", he asked himself as he saw a yellow glow in front of his eyes, while he heard the words "You have been chosen. Seek out the Crystal Tree." Sure enough, a tree made of crystal emerged from the ground, as Kent saw the same wristwatch that Tricia had gained appear on his arm. "Weird.", he commented, before resuming his work.

At the local TV studio, rising star Bill Kemp was taking a break to steal some food from the nearest shoot's craft services table, when he noticed the TV, reporting on the crash of the meteor. And the subsequent disappearance of the crater to reveal a crystal tree. "Wow, you guys should come and see this."

Before any of his fellow cast and crew could respond to the call, he saw a blinding flash cover his eyes, with the same voice that Tricia and Kent heard telling him a similar message. "You have been chosen. Only you can see. Seek out the Crystal Tree." And then the light cleared to reveal a similar wheel wristwatch in a blue flash.

It was then that the rest of the crew arrived to see the scene on the news, with one of them wondering if it was a preview for a new movie, or something similar. "That was no special effect.", Bill thought to himself. "I need to find that tree and get to the bottom of this."

And back on the scene, just as Tricia Zoom had returned to the station, a private helicopter touched down near the structure, with a young woman in bohemian styled clothing leapt out, followed shortly afterwards by a middle aged man in a suit and tie. "Miss Violette, will you please reconsider?", the man begged. "The site of a meteorite strike is no place for a lady of your stature."

"Oh please, Leonard. You're such a stuffy bore.", the girl responded as she pulled out a smartphone on a selfie stick. "Hey, people. Sandra Violette here. A few hours ago, there was a meteorite strike at my location, which everyone says sealed itself up afterwards. But I'm convinced that there was a tree of some sort that popped up, invisible to all but my eyes. And in this video, I'm going to-."

The recording cut out as Sandra was subjected to a pink version of the same flash, complete with the same speech. "You have been chosen. Only you can see." And then, she also received the strange watch. But Sandra couldn't take notice of this, as she was sucked inside the Crystal Tree, with Leonard left standing in amazement, unaware of what he had just seen.

"Miss Violette?", he asked, confused as he found her phone lying broken on the ground. "Where are you?"

As it happens, Sandra awoke to find herself within a room composed of various types of gems: crystals, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, diamonds and pearls. If she was a poorer girl, she might be more impressed. "Greetings, Sandra Violette." She turned around to be met with a short alien, with a blue and gold crystalline skin, a pair of pigtails that seemed like pearls, with twin ponytails hanging off them. She - Sandra could tell that the alien was female, based on her appearance - was wearing what looked like a cross between a work uniform and a princess dress. "You are the first to answer the call."

"The first?", Sandra questioned. "You mean that there's someone else coming here?"

As if on cue, Tricia, Kent and Bill all appeared in the room. "So all of this was in that tree.", Bill commented. "Wow, this is so cool."

Tricia then took a look at the one who had arrived first. "Wait, you're Alexandra Violette, the heiress who just moved here."

"You can just call me 'Sandra'.", Sandra insisted. "Especially if we're probably going to be spending a lot of time with each other."

"She's not the only celebrity here.", Kent pointed out, while literally pointing to Bill. "I've seen this guy on tv."

"Bill Kemp, at your service.", the other man bowed. "And what about you two? I'm sure we would've seen you in the papers if you were famous."

Tricia went first with the introductions. "Patricia Zoom, but everyone calls me 'Tricia', except my mother."

"And I'm Kent Digby.", the other man introduced himself. "Now what about the alien in the corner? Maybe they should introduce themselves."

"Very well.", the alien nodded. "I am Crystallia, Princess of Diamandos, a planet that was destroyed by an intergalactic cult known as the Darkraiders."

"Your planet was destroyed?", Tricia said, shocked. "Why?"

"Because of ancient history.", Crystallia answered. "Our planet played a role in the defeat of the Darkraiders' deity, the Dark Beast. My father, Emperor Moglarous, gave his life to hold them off so I could escape to Earth with the 5 sacred gems that could defeat the Darkraiders. The gems would choose a warrior to wield each of their individual powers in battle."

"And we're… 4 of the chosen 5.", Kent surmised.

"Correct, Kent.", Crystallia nodded. "You were chosen by the Opal to become the Gem Force Yellow Ranger, for your stout strength and imagination. Likewise, Tricia was selected by the Emerald for her strong stamina and hand-to-hand combat skill to become the Gem Force Green Ranger. Bill, your stunt training and ability to assume any persona has made you worthy to become the Gem Force Blue Ranger in the eyes of the Sapphire. And finally Sandra, the Diamond placed its faith in you as the Gem Force Pink Ranger. Together, you will be the Power Rangers Gem Force."

"Alright.", Kent cheered.

"Wait a minute, you want us to be Power Rangers?", Sandra asked. "I mean, don't get me wrong, I have a black belt which could be useful, but isn't there normally a Red Ranger?"

"Yes.", Crystallia nodded. "Unfortunately, the Ruby has not chosen its partner yet. So until it does, it will be up to you four to prepare for the coming of the Darkraiders. For we don't know when they will attack. Or even when they will arrive."

And nearby, in the skyscraper headquarters of the Onyx Corporation, the founder and CEO Leo Black observed the large structure that had appeared in the city, that was invisible to the common man. "So, the Diamandian survivior has chosen this planet to hide out on.", he noted, before turning to his secretary. "I'm going to be busy for a few minutes.", the secretary nodded and left the room.

As soon as she was gone, Leo Black flicked a switch on his desk, teleporting him out of the room, and through the depths of space, in the process adorning him in black and gold armour, with a crescent moon shaped mask that gave him glowing red eyes. When he arrived at his destination, a dark cave within the ruins of Diamandos, now inhabited by the Darkraiders. Once he arrived, now he was out of his human guise, the servile Clawrriors all bowed, reciting his true name. "Impura! Impura! Impura! Impura!"

Impura was then greeted by his fellow general, the witch known as Tracom. She was a red-skinned being in a robe, with a mask adorned with the faces of tragedy and comedy that obscured her eyes. "You'd better have a good reason for leaving your post, Impura.", she barked at him.

"Indeed I do, Tracom.", Impura nodded. "The Crystal Tree of Diamandos has bloomed on Earth, which means that the Princess will likely be recruiting from the locals to create a new generation of Power Rangers."

"That could be an issue.", Tracom considered. "We'll have to send down a Champion to ensure we can transport our entire force to Earth. And since we only have enough dark energy left send you back, you'll need to have an item for a suitable mask to enhance the Clawrrior you have with you on Earth."

Impura presented a regular water tap. "I anticipated as much. See what you can make of this." Tracom poked the item with her staff, transforming it into a full helmet. "I trust you'll be creating a Darkness Mega Beast to aid the Champion."

"Don't I always?", Tracom asked. "Now get going." She zapped Impura, teleporting him back to Earth. "A while new planet to use as my palette, eh? Well, I can create quite wealth of new Champions with the ideas I'll get."

Back on Earth, Impura reappeared in his office. "Hey, Secretary. Get in here." The Secretary complied, opening the door. "Now revert to your true form." She then transformed into a Clawrrior. "Now, it's time you were promoted." He placed the tap themed mask on her head, causing her body to turn gold, while a purple cape materialised on her shoulders. "You are now Painpipe, with the power to fill the waters of Earth with a toxin that dulls the will to resist. Go to the city's water treatment plant now."

"As you wish, General Impura.", Painpipe nodded, before turning and dashing out.

Across town, the local Sights Academy for Artistically Gifted Individuals was on a field trip to the water filtration plant. "Now then, this is the intake pipe, where we take water from the sewers as the first step of cleaning it for public use.", the guide explained. "Now if you'll follow me, we can begin our tour."

The group followed her except for one of the boys, who was simply stood there with a sketch pad. "Yo, Caleb.", one of his classmates called out. "Quit drawing and hurry up, or you'll be left behind."

"Erm, right.", the boy named Caleb nodded, as he put away his book and ran after the group, unaware that he was being watched by Painpipe.

At the Crystal Tree, the 4 Rangers had been fitted for uniforms, that resembled a cross between a tunic and a soldier's jacket. "Now this is a look I could get behind.", Sandra commented.

Suddenly, the crystals around them began emanating a high pitched wail. "I'm guessing that's not a good thing.", Tricia realised.

"Correct.", Crystallia nodded. "One of the Darkraiders' Champions has appeared on Earth. I'll teleport you to your destination to intercept them." She operated the crystals on an altar to open a portal. "No, go Rangers."

"Wait a minute.", Kent pointed out. "How are we supposed to use these to Morph? That might be important to know before we run into danger where we could possibly die."

"Oh, that's simple.", Crystallia answered him. "Just initiate the Ranger app on your Morpher and then spin the wheel to activate the sequence."

"Well that seems simple enough.", Bill said as he pressed the app. "Now then, we need a cool sounding morph call. How about…?"

"'Sparkle On' was the phrase your predecessors used.", Crystallia answered him.

"That sounds legit.", Tricia nodded, as she, Sandra and Lent all pressed the app.

All 4 then said the phrase. "It's Morphin' Time! Sparkle On!", and spun the wheel. In a flash, all of them had been transformed into their Ranger suits. They then made a run for the portal, which closed behind them.

Once hey were gone, Crystallia began praying. "Good luck, everyone."

Back at the water filtration plant, the tour was underway. "And this machine removes the contaminants from the water, ensuring that our supply is clean and drinkable.", the guide explained.

"Oh, that's not necessary." Painpipe leapt down, brandishing a staff at the party. "I like my water with contaminants. Especially the ones that will put this planet under our control." Everyone turned and began to run away, with only Caleb stopping briefly enough for the alien creature to create a vision inside his mind of a blue alien with a yellow beard and robes inside his mind, before turning and running away with the others. "Good, now those humans are out of the way, I can get to work turning this water supply into the key to our domination of Earth."

"Not on our watch." The Chanpion then turned towards the source of the voice, a group of 4 Power Rangers, with the Yellow one, who had spoken before, spoke again. "Because the Gem Force Rangers are here to put a stop to you."

The Pink one sighed. "Not the best intro line, Kent."

"We'll worry about workshopping it later.", Green said. "For now, let's deal with this creep."

"Right.", Blue nodded.

"Only 4 of you?", Painpipe asked. "No matter, this'll just make my job easier." She ran forward and engaged the 4 Rangers in a fistfight. Pink leapt in to deal her a karate chop, which she blocked, before throwing the female backwards. The other one then tried leaping in for a kick, only for Painpipe to use her enhanced reflexes to grab and throw the female into the male in blue. Finally, the male in yellow tried grabbing onto Painpipe and throwing her overhead, which briefly worked, before the Champion regained her balance and knocked him down. "What did I say? Super easy, barely an issue."

"Man, this creep's tough.", Kent wheezed. "Perhaps we need more of a plan than brute force."

"That's a given.", Tricia pointed out. "But what?"

As if on cue, another app on their Morphers began to glow. They tapped it to hear a male voice, with what sounded like a British accent, on the other end. "I suggest you press the crystallise app. It'll send weapons your way you can use to fight back."

"Just a minute.", Sandra thought to ask. "Who are you?" But the voice on the other end hung up. "Well, if he had our number, he's got to be trustworthy."

"Right.", Bill nodded as he pressed the app and spun the wheel, summoning both a sword and a gun. "Nice, I think I'll go with the sword." He grabbed the weapon, causing the gun to disappear completely. "Diamond Saber!"

"Neat.", Tricia nodded as she summoned both weapons, also selecting the Diamond Saber. "Let's take a cut out of this creep."

"I think I'd prefer the blaster.", Kent stated as he summoned the weapons. "I'm very used to power tools. So I think it'll suit me better." He thus grabbed the gun weapon. "Crystal Blaster!"

"I'll join you in that.", Sandra added, as she summoned the same weapon. "That should even us out." She and Kent then fired their Crystal Blasters, buffeting Painpipe, before Tricia and Bill unleashed sword attacks with their Diamond Sabers.

"Ok, you might be a bit of a problem.", the Champion admitted, as she got back up.

The call app reactivated itself. "Rangers, push or pull the buttons on your weapons for a final attack.", the same voice came through.

"Thanks for the advice.", Tricia answered, before she and Bill pressed the buttons on their Diamond Sabers. "Diamond Slash!"

Sandra and Kent then pulled the buttons on their Crystal Blasters. "Crystal Blast!"

"Final Attack!" The Yellow and Pink Rangers fired on Painpipe, before Green and Blue unleashed their slashes, finishing her off.

"I've been clogged up!", the Champion cried out as she dissolved into black smoke.

"Alright!", the Rangers all began celebrating.

From outside the plant, Impura watched the black smoke that was Painpipe floating upwards and turning into a spiral. "So, the new Ranger team was powerful enough to defeat a Champion, even with the loss of a single Ranger.", he noted. "But they don't know that all they've thwarted is a rehearsal. The true show will begin shortly. From the large cloud, a mass of tentacles with a large metallic centre flew down.
