"So," Kerchak asked Terk after everyone was in their nests, "Did everyone listen to you?"
"Uh-huh," Terk said.
"You're a great leader," Kala remarked.
"You mean I will be one day?" Terk asked.
She was confused. Kerchak was the family leader.
"No. You're already a great leader," Kerchak told her.
"You put the family first," Kala added, "You seemed tired, but you still cared for the family."
Terk's eyes lit up.
"Especially for Moonlight," Kerchak added.
"I love Moonlight," Terk replied, "I love all of the family, but Moonlight is special. She's my friend."
Terk yawned.
"Well," she said, "I'll see you in the morning. Goodnight!"
Kala carried Moonlight to the nest. Moonlight snuggled into her mother.
"I can't believe she can talk," Kerchak said snuggling down with Kala.
"She's very advanced," Kala said, "Most gorillas don't talk until they're six months old."
Kerchak nodded. He was extremely proud to be Moonlight's father.
The next morning Moonlight woke up sick. She was shivering even though it was hot out. She was coughing and sneezing. She was tired but she couldn't sleep and everything hurt.
"I'm taking her to Dr. Jungle," Kala said.
Dr. Jungle was the only gorilla doctor in Africa. She lived way down deep in the caves. It was a long walk to get there.
"Fine," Kerchak said, "But I'm going with you."
Kala nodded and sighed in relief. Kerchak beat on his chest. Everyone came out of their nest.
"Moonlight is sick. Kala and I are taking her to see Dr. Jungle. While we're away Terk is in charge."
Puna, Terk's older sister groaned.
"What if an emergency happens? Terk couldn't possibly handle an emergency."
"I so can," Terk said.
"Ugh you are such a child," Puna argued.
"ENOUGH!" Kerchak roared, "Puna, you, as her sister must support her– not make fun of her. The same goes for the rest of you too."
