TIGGER WARNING- This chapter has the mention of rape that happened before the beginning of this story. It's rape/non-con/dubious consent. It's a pretty dark chapter.
It had been five weeks since Ron came back into their lives. She had only seen him a few times because she hated lying to him. She wanted to tell him about the babies. Hermione understood the need for secrecy because Ron hadn't been healed yet.
But today he had passed his mental, magical, and psychological tests. The doctor said that she had not seen anyone's mind heal from such torture and from Deadman's Fever so quickly in her long career.
So today, Hermione was going to tell him about Rose and Hugo. The babies loved Harry, but he wasn't their father. Harry had a life of his own, he didn't need to help raise kids that weren't his. Because of everything Harry and Ginny had split up and Hermione had to make awkward conversation with a few of his one-night stands.
She heard a whistle from behind her. "Don't you look stunning," Harry said.
"Harry," she said, waving him off. "Do you think Ron will like it?"
"I think you'll have to pick his jaw up off the ground. So, you're going to tell him about the babies?"
"Yes, any longer and it will seem like we didn't want him to know. The doctor's given him the all clear and he'll be moving back into the Burrow tomorrow. It's time. I'm so nervous. How do you think he'll handle it?"
"Truthfully?"
"Yes."
"Badly for about ten minutes. If you wait out those ten minutes without taking any bait for a fight, I think he'll be fine and make a great dad."
She did have to agree with Harry there. Ron was all about impulsive actions, if she waited him out he would be fine. "Thanks. The babies are with Fleur, she wanted some hands-on experience. Rose is walking and Hugo took his first steps yesterday, so she'll be busy."
"I missed his first steps?" Harry asked, looking disappointed.
Hermione smiled. "In the pensieve in my office. I've already put the memory in for you. I hope Ron will want to see it too. I wasn't there for Rose's, but I saw Mrs. Weasley's memory, it was almost as good as being there."
She said a last goodbye to Harry before going by Floo to Percy's flat. Percy said he had to keep the floo powder locked up just in case, but Ron hadn't tried to go anywhere.
Once she was standing in Percy's flat, she brushed her clothes off. Instead of robes she was wearing her muggle clothes. A white blouse and blue jeans. Now that she was actually working at the Ministry, she felt like her old self again. For the longest time she just felt like a servant to two demanding little bosses. She had grown so attached to Rose, but she wasn't her daughter. Now that Ron was back, Rose would go to him because legally, Hermione was nothing to her. At anytime Lavender's parents could take her away or even the Weasleys, although neither would ever do that.
"I was hoping you wouldn't be too long. He's in his room, I think he's nervous about being around everyone again. We've tried our best not to overwhelm him but tomorrow Mum will be having a family do."
"Is that such a good idea?" she asked, not thinking it was the best.
"You try and stop my mother. I'm headed to the Ministry."
"This late?"
Percy's ears got red, much like Ron's when he was embarrassed or angry. Percy didn't look angry so that made him embarrassed but why?
"Just some work Kingsley wants me to do."
She wondered if there was any truth to the rumor that Percy had been caught more than once, sneaking out of Kingsley's office looking properly disheveled, very unlike the former headboy. It wasn't any of her business, but everyone likes a good story.
"Alright."
"Fred should be here in an hour or so." She understood, they still didn't want Ron alone. After a full week when he came back begging, screaming, and pleading with anyone to kill him, it was understandable.
Now that Percy was gone, Hermione headed to the room Ron was staying in. It used to be Oliver Wood's, but something happened between Percy and Oliver, making living together impossible. She always thought it was something about the war but now she wasn't so sure. Oliver and Percy were an odd pair to be friends. But then again she was best friends with Harry and Ron who both had been on the Quidditch team and she couldn't stand the sport.
She tapped on the door. "Ron?"
There was a thud, swearing then the door opened. Ron was holding his brand-new hand over his eye.
"Are you ok?" she asked.
"Yeah, was trying to juggle."
"Why?"
"Why not?"
He had her there, so she just looked at him. He looked like the old Ron. He still had scars on his face but after several treatments they were almost invisible. You had to really look to see them.
"You look good," she said, before realizing how that sounded.
"You too," he said casually with an easy-going smile.
"I need to tell you something and I don't know how you're going to take it. I wanted to tell you when you got back but because of the Fever, I was told it was too dangerous."
"O…k," Ron said slowly.
"I gave birth during the final battle. He was early but he's ours. His name is Hugo," she said pulling out a picture from her back pocket that she brought to show him. It was Hugo on Harry's shoulders, pulling his Godfather's hair.
"You and Harry have a baby?" Ron asked. What surprised her was she knew Ron to be a jealous boy…man now. But he looked so…unbothered.
"No, he's ours…yours and mine. From after the poisoning, if you remember."
"Oh, yeah I remember." He smiled at her, and she felt like she was fifteen again.
In for a penny, in for a pound. She pulled the other picture she had in her jeans out. "And this is your daughter Rose."
She tried to hand the picture to Ron, but he wasn't taking it. She grabbed his hand and opened it, placing the picture into his hand. "Who is this?"
"Your daughter with Lavender."
Ron laughed looking at her with a dopey grin. "Funny, Hermione."
"It's not a joke."
"Lavender having my kid is pretty impossible."
"Well, with sex there is no impossibilities as long as everyone has corresponding parts."
"You're not listening. Lavender couldn't have my kid…we never had sex."
She had seen Ron lie before and knew for a fact he was telling the god's honest truth right now.
"No, she looks just like your family. Lavender died in the battle, but before she died she told me to save her baby. With Trelawney and Parvati, we were able to get the baby out. Parvati told us that you are Rose's father."
"I don't know what to say besides I can't be because I didn't have sex with her."
"But when we were together, I know it wasn't your first," she said, a little embarrassed still at her inexperience at the time.
"Which time?"
"We only had sex once Ron."
"No, we had sex twice. Once before me and Lavender got together and then when I was just waiting for Lavender to end it."
"What? No. We only had sex the once and that was after you were poisoned."
"I was there Hermione; I know what we did the first time."
"That's what I'm saying…I…wasn't…there. So, unless someone who looked just like me had sex with you…"
Her head was spinning with what could have happened. Lavender had a crush on Ron before they got together but he kept turning her down until his fight with Ginny. Lavender had always been jealous of Ron and Hermione's friendship, what if them getting together wasn't the start of it?
Ron seemed to come up with the same conclusion she did. "No, she wouldn't."
Hermione felt sick that her body was used without her permission, that Ron had seen her naked. Had sex with her body but not her, Lavender wearing her body like it was her right. She felt so violated but then she looked at him and saw how pale he was. She realized her body might have been used and it was a definite violation, but Ron was the real victim here. He thought he was having sex with her not Lavender. There was a word for what Lavender did to him and it was rape.
"Ron, I'm so sorry," she said, stepping close to him but he backed away quickly as if her touch would burn him. "What?"
"I'm sorry, Hermione I can't do this now. Can you please leave? I just can't look at your face, please understand." As much as it hurt, she did understand.
She went in the living room and cried while waiting for Fred to arrive. There was no sound at all coming from Ron's room. When Fred arrived, he saw how upset she was.
"What did the prat do now?" he asked.
"Why do you always assume it's him?" she snapped.
"It was a joke to make you laugh. What's going on?"
"You need to go get Percy; I'll wait."
"Why? What's going on?"
"I think, I'm almost sure the Lavender Brown used Polyjuice potion to pretend to be me to get Ron to sleep with her."
"What? That's sick."
"That's not all. I suspect that's how Rose was conceived. Ron needs someone to talk to about this."
"I'm his brother, I can talk to him."
"He needs someone he doesn't think will make fun of him for this."
"I would never."
"But he doesn't know that. He told me once when we were younger he would always go to Percy if he was sad because Percy was the only one that never made fun of him. I know you wouldn't about this but Ron needs someone he can trust." She thought about getting Harry here, but would Ron be able to tell him the truth? "For Ron," she pleaded. "Percy is at the Ministry with the Minister."
"I'll be back as soon as I can."
Hermione wiped her tears away and started to plan. There was no way that Lavender "bimbo" Brown would ever know how to make Polyjuice potion. But her best friend, one Parvati Patil was especially good at potions. Once Percy arrived, Hermione was going to have a talk with Ms. Patil and she would be lucky if she left it with her teeth intact.
